There is a saying that something can be cheap, fast and good - but never all three. you only get two? My experience with the oyster special at Aliment was that they are cheap and come out fast but are not good! In fact, our dozen was mostly inedible, we salvaged four or five but rest were unrecognizable as oyster and frankly unsettling. For starters, the oysters are not served over a bed of ice or even chilled for that matter! Our dozen were clumped together on a pasta bowl with murky water in the bottom. Most of the oysters had an unusual milky liquid in their shells and several of them literally became mush when touched with an oyster fork to detach the muscle from the shell. I didn't really expect prime oysters for $1 but their social media advertising is pretty convincing, so I figured it must be worth a try. Boy was I wrong. On a positive note, the restaurant space is inviting, fun and lively. Especially on nice days when the doors and large front windows are open. I enjoyed two beers and my partner enjoyed her cocktail. I know restaurants are struggling right now and I get no pleasure from writing a poor review but I seriously cannot recommend the oysters from Aliment. We came here specifically for the $1 oyster promotion and made a reservation because of it. Unfortunately, the experience ended up being really disappointing because the promotion was misleading and the situation wasn't handled well. When we arrived, the menu posted outside said the $1 oysters were available with the purchase of a food item or drink per person. That was exactly what we planned to do. Once we sat down, we were handed a separate oyster menu that instead said there was a $15 minimum spend per person. We each ordered a beer and two dozen oysters, which already came out to more than $30 before tax and tip. No one mentioned that the $15 minimum was in addition to the oysters, either while we were ordering, during the meal, or when we asked for the check. It wasn't until the bill came that we were told we didn't qualify for the promotion and had to spend another $30 between the two of us. We weren't trying to avoid spending money. Had someone explained the promotion when we ordered, we would have happily added another appetizer. Instead, we had to leave for another event and were left paying for a promotion that wasn't clearly explained. The oysters themselves were also disappointing. Quite a few still had small pieces of shell on them, many weren't fully detached from the shell, and several tasted partially frozen. I'm not sure if that was a shucking issue or a supplier issue, but it definitely wasn't the quality we expected. The most frustrating part was how the manager handled the situation. Our server called him over, and instead of listening to why we were confused, he immediately became defensive. He asked us for feedback on the oysters and then almost immediately said he couldn't talk because the restaurant was full and they had staff to pay. That wasn't the issue. Our concern was the inconsistent promotion and the fact that no one clarified it before we ordered. He also at point said hey we just started having oysters and then said they had oysters for 5 weeks now and no one has complained about they quality which directly conflicts - either it's new and you're testing or it's supposedly good because no one has given feedback. Overall, this could have been avoided with better communication. If you're coming for the oyster special, I'd recommend asking exactly what qualifies before ordering. Between the conflicting menus and how the situation was handled, it left a really poor impression, and I wouldn't come back again. read more

Wanted to like this place, as it's so close to where I live. First and last time here. Got a burger from here and it was probably the worst burger I've ever had. Got it for around $16 and that was actually a deal, as these burgers are $28. How though? The burger I got was absolutely burnt, but super raw in the middle. I'm guessing the cook is new. The food is generally good but definitely on the expensive side. I got the mushroom pasta with chickpea meatballs, and that was $32 for a pretty regular size portion. Also got the lentil soup. I really liked the mushroom pasta but felt the lentil soup was too heavy on the coconut milk. The drinks were the standout here. We tried the the passionfruit sour and the dorda smash. The dorda drink was like an alcoholic chocolate milk basically, 10/10. The passion fruit sour was also a great drink with a perfect balance of sweet and sour. Came to Aliment for dinner before a show at the Masonic and found it pretty tasty! We ordered the fried chicken plate, brussel sprouts, and truffle fries to share. It was just enough to hold us over and ensure that we weren't in a food coma during the show. My favorite was the brussel sprouts. The carmelized fish sauce and furikake combo was sooo good! I'm going to need to reverse engineer this for home cooking! The chicken was next. I really enjoyed the crispiness of the panko and the bacon mac and cheese was also solid! The greens also added a nice bitterness to the dish to balance it all out. Bringing up the back was the truffle fries. The flavor was good but the fries were limp and that's just unacceptable for fries. Service was also a bit of a hit and miss. Maybe it was because we were upstairs but it was almost impossible to flag down staff unless they were actually present on the floor. We had originally wanted some coffee to end the meal but by the time staff came around we absolutely had to leave to catch the show. I came here with colleagues for dinner the other night. It was a crapshoot because I had no information on the actual restaurant other than looking at their menu and realizing that it was only a couple of blocks from our hotel. You know, leap of faith type shit. I have to say we were all pleasantly surprised. We were greeted with friendly smiles from the waiter and the bartender, and there was only one other couple in there at the time. It's quite a small space though, so I would recommend a reservation. The waiter and the bartender both gave us great recommendations on their menu. We started with brussels sprouts which were absolutely fabulous. Quite delicious. I would never think to put fish sauce on brussels sprouts but it really worked. Then all three of us opted for the pork chop which the waiter had told us was Michelin rated and recommended. And I could see why. It was fantastic. Amazing flavor of meat perfectly seasoned and cooked. Served over a bit of mashed sweet potatoes with some mango chutney salsa. The whole flavor was really working. I would highly recommend it. Paired with a delicious French white wine, and I was seriously in heaven. I came here for a little girls night and the server was super sweet, his wife also worked there and they were just the cutest couple. My wife and I had a really good experience eating lunch here. We found Aliment on Yelp. We were looking for something that was walking distance from our hotel. My wife made a reservation, but I believe they also welcome walk in as well. We came in and were kindly greeted by our server Christine (who we later found out was the owner). We originally had our reservation for indoor, but asked if we can dine outdoors, to enjoy the nice weather. The menu is very simple but offers plenty of food and drinks options to choose from. We ordered some items from the lunch menu specials, which include most of their menu items, but for half the portion and price. We got a bunch of different items to try. Everything was good and delicious (the brussels sprouts and chicken wings are a must) The spicy margaritas was one of the best we ever had (thanks to our bartender Alan). Overall Aliment was a very good restaurant to come and have a quick bite in The City. The entire staff were all very friendly and accommodating. The food was good and delicious. We started with the brussels sprouts appetizer. They were crispy and crunchy with good flavor. For our mains, we opted to share the grilled salmon and the Kabocha curry risotto. The mango salsa really carried the salmon dish. The last two inches of the asparagus were inedible and stringy. The flavors of the curry part of the risotto were complex and savory. The dish felt a little like they ladled a curry on top of risotto rice. I wished the two parts of the dish married better. TL: DR If you're looking for a nice restaurant to eat at, come to Aliment. I booked my wedding dinner reception for roughly 30 people here and it was the best choice I could have made. From the beginning during the planning process, Branden and Christine made the planning process smooth and simplified. We were in constant communication leading up to the event as they were available via phone, email and text. We had our own private room in their wine room which was tidy, intimate, well lit space that was perfect for our party. We appreciated the details from the printed custom menus to the table centerpieces, items which were complimentary with the booking. We took an opportunity to check out the venue the day before to iron out little details and were met with amazing and genuine hospitality. The food and drinks were outstanding. I had the ribeye steak with fries. Our guests were able to choose from salmon and the fried chicken. Judging from the smiles and laughter throughout the our dinner, everyone enjoyed their time. Not to mention we had a cash bar limit we well exceeded, but thats okay, because we were all having so much fun. Can't put a price on the experience! Our group made a reservation here to celebrate a birthday. That went smoothly and the staff were great. Once our order was placed the food came out quickly. We loved the wings as a starter. Two people ordered the pork chop entree and were asked about temperature of choice. I've never heard of this for pork selections. Both people asked for their order to be well done, it was not. I can genuinely say that this was my first experience where the restaurant did not show gratitude for a birthday/celebration. Usually something small such as a 1 person dessert selection is offered, not here. Of course, we understand customs may be different. However, it's the small things that matter. We ordered quickly and then second guessed our order as generous plates of lamb chops and salads strolled by us. Regardless, we held out for our American fare. The food was delicious, hearty and made with fresh ingredients. We had the buttermilk breadcrumb fried chicken, steak burger and chickpea burger. We also had the pistachio tiramisu, panna cotta, and caramel covered ice cream for desserts. The desserts were delicious too. Alimentb has a full stocked bar as well. The chicken was delicious! Perfectly cooked, moist and not greasy. The burger was also perfectly cooked (a true medium rare). The burger had a quality spice mixture. I really enjoyed the steak. Before hitting the Regency for a Sango concert this last Friday night my friend and I stopped in at Aliment. It was past busy, with a large party of about forty people in the back being served an array of cocktails, all tables in the front seating area were taken, and we were asked if we had a reservation. So, I say make a reservation here if going on the weekend. After a little more than five minutes my friend and I were sat at the bar, ordering cocktails but being told that the bartenders were catching up on a large order of cocktails for a large party. From their mocktail menu I ordered the Mock Trail. It was sparkling and perfectly flavored with ginger and turmeric for me. If you find ginger and lemon juice to be refreshing, try this. However, I do hate their straws. I get it I get it, save the turtles. I still hate the straws, but I live to see another day. I was stuck between a rock and a hard place deciding between the flank steak salad and the wild mushroom fettuccine. Having to choose is criminal, but I opted for the steak salad and my friend ordered the fettuccine with steak, medium. I, for one, loved my salad. Arugula has that peppery taste that is paired perfectly with steak, so I knew it would be a pleasant salad but I do have one bone to pick. My steak, though done medium well, was just a bit too charred for my taste. However, the Parmesan cheese and balsamic helped to soften the strong flavor of the char. I never want that type of char on a steak again though. The fettuccine was creamy, hearty and warm to the bone. We also ordered the Parmesan truffle fries and they are so delicious. To be frank, they remind me of the Patatas Bravas from 620 Jones down to the sauce they're served with. It isn't a matter of who did it first, but man, I love truffle anything and these fries were savory. Couldn't keep my hands out of the basket. Overall the ambiance is very busy, but the staff is friendly, inviting and attentive. They kept telling people the only option was outside (where it was freezing) or to wait, which is what they told us at first, despite us having a reservation and a table being open at the entrance, but inside (in fact, when we made the reservation just 4 hours earlier, they had a staggering amount of availability for any time we wanted!). It leads me to believe that they either overbook or seat walk ins without thinking about the actual reservations. After about 5-10 minutes of them trying to figure things out, we were seated inside. This alone left me feeling not great, as I wouldn't want to come here and not know if I actually have a seat despite a reservation.
