I joined a very large group recently for dinner at Aliment that received high praise from several friends who previously dined here. Their assessments were spot on with something for just about everyone. To start, we ordered the Brussel Sprouts and the cheese and charcuterie plate. Both of these dishes were very good. A huge shout out for the Brussels as they had a very crispy crunch with excellent flavor. The charcuterie was very good with a solid selection of unique and tasty cheeses. A great way to start a lovely evening. I was torn from many options offered by our server and ultimately landed on the pork chop. It was cooked to perfection and very reasonably portioned and served atop a serving of the sweet potato mashed with a chutney. It had all the aromas and tastes that one thinks of during the Fall season. It was very good and cooked perfectly. I'll have this again and recommend you give it a try if pork chops are in your list of options. Aliment is slightly off the beaten path, but a very pleasant place to enjoy a meal, whether it be for lunch or dinner. The staff here could not be more friendly or attentive. If you miss dinner, not to worry as it is a solid spot for an after dinner beverage. I'm looking forward to trying one of their other entrees including their Fried Chicken which their staff raved over. The fried chicken sandwich lives up to expectations. I came on a Tues night arpund 6 and it wasn't too busy. They have a very small bar area and then both indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor seating is pretty spacious because they also have an upstairs seating area. They have mostly upscale American fare and then cocktails, wine and beer. I got a glass of Pinot noir that was delicious and the bartender let me try a couple before I ordered. I got the chicken sandwich without aioli and it comes standard with fries. The chicken was sooo crispy. And the pickles and slaw added a nice crunch and slight sweetness to balance the chicken. The bun was fluffy and tasty. Just a disaster from start to finish. Everything was awful: the drinks, food, and service. Let's start with the drinks. We were forced to sit at the bar (more on that later) and multiple people sent their drinks back. It was very clear their bartender had no clue what he was doing and that was apparent from watching him make a tons of drinks and then having to remake them even worse the 2nd time. My cocktail tasted like gasoline. It was horrible. He just didn't know the recipe for any of the drinks and they were gross. But how did we end up at the bar when we had reserved a table? Glad you asked. We had reservation at 5:45 and they did not have a table for us when we arrived and said they might not have one for awhile. They just sat a bunch of walk ins without accounting for people who made a reservation. They said our only option was to sit at the bar or outside in the freezing cold. We sat at the bar and they never even wiped it down from the prior party. It was filthy. The food was not good either. The salad was drenched in dressing and was missing an ingredient (walnuts). The mussels were steamed well but the sauce tasted like Campbells tomato soup (maybe it was?). The burgers were dry and the quality of the meat they used was poor. Avoid this restaurant please. It really ruined our evening. Update: the business responded to my review below and clearly confused me with a different party as we never shared any positive comments to the staff and it was very clear that we were not happy that they forced us to sit at the bar despite having a reservation. Additionally we did not order a Hot Toddy or Spice drink and did not send our drinks back... A better approach would have been to reach out to me directly to learn more about my experience and attempt to improve and train your staff. Was in SF and needed a lunch place. Found Aliment on Yelp and it was close to our hotel. Got there a little after 2pm on a Thursday which happened to be happy hour! It was pretty quiet when we arrived. The bartender/man of all trades waited on us. My SO got a burger which came with fries and I ordered fries and the steak tacos. Question for you: If a restaurant has eggs, bacon, and toast, do you think they could make bacon and eggs with toast upon request? Every restaurant I've ever visited has said yes, but this one said they could not prepare this for breakfast because the specific dish was not on their breakfast menu. The breakfast selections also could not be modified. My party of 6 and I were a bit turned off by this restaurant's inflexibility and unwillingness to deviate from their established menu. The waiter took our order but wouldn't write it down. We asked if he could remember what everyone ordered. He said yes but failed to deliver. He gave me coffee instead of grapefruit juice. I didn't make a fuss over it since I needed caffeine to jumpstart my day anyway, but I ended up ordering the grapefruit juice also. I had the French toast and enjoyed it. My boss wasn't too happy that he couldn't get his eggs, bacon, and toast. read more

Enjoyed brunch this morning at Aliment! Great modern, casual, quaint place based on this experience! My partner and I shared an order of the country fried steak. Amazingly crispy and flavorful breading on the meat, which was very tender! It paired perfectly with the pan roasted potatoes and the gravy. The potatoes were also perfectly seasoned and tasted great with some onions and peppers mixed in! All were fresh and hot out of the kitchen - viable to us as we sat at the bar. Always some comfort which you can watch the pros making their masterpieces right after you order. We also shared a side of blueberry pancakes- also a hot and very tasty option! We had a group of 6 and was seated upstairs in a semi-private room. I ordered the steak salad and it was amazing. We asked for separate checks but he said he could only break it into 4 at the most. Hmmm Ok we said just split it into two with these 3 and these 3. That apparently was too confusing because he had to come back and confirm. We said just split 3 and 3 we don't care how it's split. He came back with one check. We then realized it was NOT our check (after he already ran the card). So he voided that one snd gave us another check with all 6 together. Seriously!?! Then he told us the gratuity was included (menu said it would be for parties over 6) but we realized it wasn't. Moral of the story. Don't go as a group. Food is good. Decided to dine here before going to the Tina musical. It is about a half mile walk and not too far. We made a reservation but honestly it wasn't needed on a Friday night!! They had seats available inside and out (they have their heaters above and no one asked if we needed them turned on, would have been nice to be a bit warmer), we opted for outside. It took a while to get our drinks. The drinks were OK, non-alcoholic and there wasn't anything special about the mock tails. For dinner we ordered the spicy fried chicken and roasted salmon. Everything was good but nothing memorable. They don't have espresso machine so the hot fresh cappuccino after the dinner was out of question. Inside is really hot, so we opted for outdoor seating. We waited a pretty long time for our server like about 20ish minutes. Not sure why it took them so long when they weren't busy. After they took our orders, it came out pretty quickly . Like 10 mins. I got the Fried chicken with bacon Mac and cheese and truffle mashed potatoes. The original dish had greens, but I swapped it out for the mashed potatoes. The food was decent. It wasn't memorable but it wasn't bad. The truffle mash could've tasted more truffley and the Mac and cheese was kind of bland and watery. I prefer my Mac n cheese to be creamier. The fried chicken had a nice crunch but barely any flavor. I've been coming to Aliment for several months and this place has become a staple in my weekly routine. Highlights include their happy hour (M-F: 2 p.m - 6 p.m) featuring cocktails, small bites, and my personal favorite is $25 bottle of the house white. Sam, the manager, puts extra care into selecting the wine for Aliment as I've seen him meet with several vendors to select wine when updating their wine list. I haven't been disappointed by anything I've had here. Sam truly cares about every customer's experience and goes the extra mile. Here are some of my favorite items: Panko Prawns (Pro Tip: grab some couscous on the side) Steak Salad (a recent discovery of mine, some customers order this daily) Truffle Fries Hugo Spritz (spin on the Aperol Spritz) You truly can't go wrong with anything you order here, attaching a photo of a "Michelin Guide Recommended" sign they have here (it's tucked away by the bar and I think it deserves more attention). Finally, I don't want to finish this review without mentioning the staff that have welcomed me and my dog (yes, they do get her a water bowl) with open arms --- Shane, Alfredo, Corey, and Alan :) Love this place and will continue to return! read more
