I've been a customer for years mostly take out pizza and I can say the story with Allegro is inconsistency. With my pizza I just ordered came my ceasar salad floating in water at the bottom of the container. Salad dressing was already on the salad making it even more soggy. I expected a little more from Allegro. I had a slice of meat lovers pizza the first day arriving into town. I was good. Lots of toppings. I ordered spaghetti bolognese Caesar salad and garlic bread. The Bolognese was a little heavy on the tomatoes and onions and not much meat for me.. The garlic bread was light on the cheese and and garlic. Good location if you are staying at the Mission Inn. The owner did reach out to me about my concerns. I do appreciate that he took the time to do so. I will give it another try next time visiting the area. read more

Allegro pizza is the best pizza hands down in the Monterey area. The ingredients are fresh and the options on the menu make a hard choice on what to get. I often crave the veggie pizza and margarita pizza though it's hard to choose a favorite as everything is so well made and delicious. I love the combination of thin crust, cheese and well balanced toppings. I have been coming to Allegro for 4 years now and plan to continue. I come for the pizza and come back for the kind staff and feeling I get having such positive experiences dining here. Every time I visit, I ask for Dallan. She is incredibly kind, sweet and the heart of Allegro though her knowledge and experience. Dallan has always had great recommendations for what to get and I trust her input as a fellow foodie. This restaurant was a quiet place off the main downtown area of Carmel-by-the-sea and a pleasant gem. They are dog friendly which made us happy and offered us a table by the door so our pup would be more comfortable. The staff even brought him a cookie while we waited for our pizza to be ready. Truly one of the most appalling experiences ever. The pizza came out cold all around, and still frozen in the middle, with some rotting toppings thrown on top. I took a bite and nearly threw up. It was that bad. Asking to send it back was met with a vile tirade from a woman manager. There is something seriously wrong with her. The ever-present-on-Yelp owner, Jeano, was not there that night. The only bright spot in the experience were a couple of servers on the floor who were suitably horrified and empathetic, and made a point to express their embarrassment for this treatment. As someone who was in the restaurant business for years (including pizza restaurants, high-end steak houses, and fine dining), I know the business, and I excuse a LOT--e.g. slow service on a busy night, an error in orders, that sort of thing. Treating customers horribly is NOT excusable. read more

Maybe I ordered wrong? I thought I ordered a 8" cheese pizza but got 2 slices with what seemed like no sauce & Parmesan. Absolutely no cheese other than unmelted shredded Parmesan. My wife has minastrone soup and salad. Seemed okay but lack of vegetables in the soup clearly indicated it was delivered, not in house. I ordered a meatball sandwich in a pocket. 3 very small meatballs in a pocket filled with tomato paste. No spice, no flavor, didn't eat it. The fries were clearly frozen and not even salted. This place sucks. I'm 71 yo and not a real picky eater but $60 + for this mess a beer and a house red wine is a ripoff. Save your money and keep going. read more

Update: I am updating this review from one star to three stars based on business owner, Jeano's indication that the service issue has been rectified. I appreciate the response and will give it another shot! We live nearby and have eaten at this restaurant on two occasions. The first time was okay. The restaurant was empty. There were two of us and we sat at a longer banquet style table in the back of the patio that can seat up to 6 people. We sat there because it was sunnier. After the second experience, I can assure you that we will not return. The server was a younger gentleman. When we attempted to sit at the same table in the back of the patio, he barked at us: "Can you move to a smaller table, please? That's for a six top." There was nobody on the patio. Who cares? Every single table was empty. I didn't push back because he was very overly assertive about it as it is and just came off as a drama queen. Moving on to the drinks, I ordered the house Sauvignon Blanc. He served me with a very old Chardonnay. When my boyfriend brought the wine back to the bar, the server basically gaslighted him, claiming that the wine "looks and smells like a Sauvignon Blanc to me." Mind you, this server was very young and barely over the drinking age. It was sort of rich when he tried to convince my 42 year old wine drinking manfriend that the Chardonnay was a Sauvignon Blanc. Very bizarre. Anybody who drinks white wine can tell the difference. It's not rocket science. The server was being dishonest as far as we were concerned. He wanted to sell the old rank Chardonnay that had already been opened. This restaurant is just cheap and should convert to a take out/delivery only business. There is a big sign on the door telling customers that they can't use the restrooms for the sake of "viability." I mean, come on? That sort of stuff gets old. Shut down if the sit down restaurant is too much of a burden. Get a smaller space. Deliver the pizzas. They are the only good thing about this place. read more

We were spoiled by the owner, Gino, who took our order by phone AND delivered our food poolside at the Carmel Mission Inn for free! The combination pizza was the bomb! Tons of toppings, a beautiful combination of flavors and very fresh veggies. We also got a chicken basil pizza that was delightful. The pizza here never disappoints. We used Allegro pizza as our late night snack for our recent wedding and it was a huge hit. The staff offered to personally hand deliver the pizza for us to our wedding venue and it was gone in minutes! We've eaten here a few times before hand and the service is always great. I've been to this restaurant several times during my trips to Carmel. It has a very classic feel to it. The food was delicious and the atmosphere reminded me of my childhood in the best way. Let me just start with I cannot rave about this restaurant enough. This will forever be a spot we come to visit when we come back to Monterey. Not only was the food delicious but the service was amazing! We came here for my sisters rehearsal dinner and had the most wonderful experience. We really felt like part of the family and Jeano treats you as if he's known you for years even though he's just met you. I can't choose which dish was my favorite because they all were so good. Oh and did I mention that they had the kids make their own pizzas which kept all the kids busy and was a genius idea! Italian sausage pizza was wonderful. My friend had vegetarian slice and base pizza was cold, vegetables were barely or uncooked. Not much flavor and Parmesan looked like pre-grated Sysco product. So, wildly different experiences! Think about sautéed vegetables or grilled. And maybe go with traditional caprese...the romaine didn't add anything to the dish. Not sure why it gets such good reviews. We ordered the Caesar Salad ( the cheese had no flavor but the rest of the salad was good), an 8 inch square Margherita that had no sauce (I guess some are made this way) a slice of tomato in the center with 1 basil leaf on top. The crust is a super soft pillow of cooked dough if that is what you are in to but no flavor. We also ordered the 8 inch combo pizza and it was just ok. read more

This is a great Italian restaurant with GREAT pizza. The owner Jean is on site. I am from Chicago and do not like the New York style pizza typically but their pizza here was great!! Fresh ingredients and great taste. I can see how some people might be shocked by the pizza prices but it depends where you are visiting from. Compared to Chicago prizes and the fact they are using real FRESH ingredients on the pizza the price point is fine. If you want cheap go to Dominos, Papa John's or another franchise pizza restaurant who use frozen ingredients. The service is an issue but they are dealing with the same issues with lack of employees the rest of the country is dealing with due to a variety of reasons they have no control over. Keep that in mind if you are visiting this place. Be patient you will be rewarded!! Great pizza and Italian food family owned in Carmel. If you are craving some good authentic Italian this is the spot. I wish I would have got the fried artichoke appetizer:), I have not had them since visiting Spain and they are near impossible to find in Chicago. read more

So much outdoor seating I had the minestrone soup vegetables were nice and hardy and for my lunch I had the Arthur's pizza delicious crust not too chewing not too thick not too thin tons of great pesto fire roasted bell peppers Portabella mushrooms also it had artichoke hearts great cheese not fake cheese it was stringy and Melty and so delicious I had two glasses of the Pinot Noire it was absolutely the best for dessert I had their almond cake oh gosh the amaretto in the ladyfingers was perfect this place is a Hidden jam definitely you have to try it read more

This was my first experience at this restaurant and I ended up staying for a few hours! I had the Shrimp and Scallop pasta plate, Caesar salad,and their chocolate molten cake for desert and was NOT disappointed! The staff was friendly and welcoming. The owner was in when I stopped in and I immediately felt like I was friends with everyone. This place is definitely capable of 5 star service but it really feels like you're going to a family friends house for dinner. The beers selection is great, the wine list is VAST, the meal was amazing and the desert... oh I'd kill for that desert. If you want to go grab a meal in a traditional and comfortable Itialian setting where you feel like family, go here. If you want a more "uptight" setting, go somewhere else. My mom and I ate at Allegros for dinner after arriving from the Bay Area. We had exceptional service from our waitress Sarah who was kind, personable and made sure we had everything we needed. In addition to the excellent customer service the food was delicious. We had the Mediterranean Chicken Salad, Fettuccine Alfredo and Tiramisu.
