The restaurant is clean and my food was ready in 7 minutes. The Atkins BBQ Plate $17.25 was mostly BBQ chicken, one piece of beef and one piece of short rib with two eggs. This tasted OK. My other order was fried fish $15.25, regular. It contained three pieces of thin fish. The batter was OK and felt small. The other place down the block will give you two more pieces for two dollars less. I used the rice in this dish to soak up the BBQ juices from the Atkins plate. I'm not a big fan of huge menus as it usually means that some of the dishes are sure to be questionable. I walked past this place recently because of the negative reviews here, but then I got tempted by delivery and I gotta say, Ya'll are ALL WRONG. This place is deeelicious. For starters, this place has some of the best Kalua Pork you'll find outside of the islands. I've been trying to cut back on rice and I seriously couldn't help myself from devouring it just because of all the tasty sauces that got on it. The Mac salad is the bomb. The serving is very generous but you won't want to stop eating. They also have an Atkins combo. Yes, it's outdated... we call it Keto now and do you know how hard it is to find keto-specific stuff? Aloha BBQ- Mission Street in San Francisco Restaurant is on super pedestrian heavy Mission Street in San Francisco. It is basically one of the many forms of "Hawaiian BBQ plate lunch" places that can be found all over the city. Inside is very much like mom and pop plate lunch joints- not a bad thing...but too bad the food didn't deliver. When we went, the restaurant was packed with the after school crowd. The employees were either intimidated or didn't care that the teens were running amok inside the restaurant, banging yelling and swearing up a storm. We ordered beef and lamb skewers with broccoli and a salad. Both beef and lamb were under seasoned and over cooked. The broccoli was cooked to the point of being limp. I suspect it was microwaved because the texture was uneven. Portion size was super small for the price. The skewers came with a soy dipping sauce that was watery. Not a great dining experience at Aloha BBQ. Rather ironic, because this area of Mission is loaded with a variety of wonderful restaurants, with an emphasis on Chinese food. Everyone has cravings, even my wallet. Yes, my wallet. Sometimes it craves a cheap and filling meal with leftovers (gotta stretch that dollah), and that sometimes came last week. Previously Lin's Café (Chinese BBQ Deli & Restaurant), Aloha BBQ opened about 2 weeks ago, and thanks to Wilhelm Y.'s FTR for putting it on my radar. The menu offers standard Hawaiian fast food fare of bbq, rice plates, musubi, burgers, saimin, and etc, however, they also have some Chinese dishes: egg rolls, potstickers, fried rice, etc. They also offer party trays. Prices are about $.50 - $2 more than longtime neighborhood favorite, Hawaiian Drive Inn which is just down the block. I don't mind paying slightly higher prices but if you're going to charge more than your competitor, you better one up them. The food is comparable (decent to fill your stomach but not something I crave) but the wait is twice as long. We ordered pick-up via the yelp app and it took 20 minutes in an empty restaurant (found parking in front). Hawaiian Drive Inn can churn out orders in less than 10 minutes with a line out the door. However, Aloha BBQ accepts credit cards AND they deliver. Portions were massive so we had plenty of leftovers for another meal but I also had to order some musubis as they're my benchmark for testing any good Hawaiian restaurant. I love rice and so do my thunder thighs but my goodness, please use less rice or use thicker cuts of spam. Not sure why there was only sauce on one musubi and not the others. If you're not picky, and looking for a cheap AzN restaurant that provides a filling meal with leftovers and accepts credit cards then Aloha BBQ may be for you. Hey brudda, it ain't no joy ride to get here. Man, I'd climb a volcano for cheap Hawaiian eats, but we're really talking about the Outer Mission. That's one long ride on the increasingly aromatic MUNI 14 line or a long march from the Balboa Park BART station. Or you could drive but what's the fun in that? You can recognize the place from the bright orange awning. Aloha, brudda. Enter and there's no doubt you're in a fast food joint, and it takes a while to absorb the highly detailed menu on the wall. I saw the usual suspects like kahlua pork, spam musubi and loco moco but also a section of "healthier" plates and even Aloha Atkins BBQ plates for those eating low carb. That would not be me on that particular evening. Given all the choices, I went with the most predictable one for someone who hasn't had authentic Hawaiian food in a while, the $8.75 "BBQ Mix Plate Plate" (their verbiage). For that bargain price, it was a hefty amount of food they put into my takeout carton, slabs of marinated barbecue beef, short ribs and chicken with two scoops of rice and one scoop of macaroni salad (photo: http://bit.ly/1fFXwCM). I'm not sure why they put it in a takeout carton since I told them I was eating there, or maybe they were cutting the middleman since they resumed I couldn't finish it in one sitting. So once i was done with my BBQ plate, I ordered the $5.15 Aloha Saimin to go, another bargain and even the Spam Saimin was only $3.99. I took it home and ate it the following day reheated at work. I was craving a Loco Moco and found this place on a google search. Really nice folks but the Loco Moco did not impress. The hamburger patty was not fresh hamburger. Definaltely previously frozen and tasted like a snak shack burger. Also needed more salt.
