Saw the good reviews and decided to try Aloha Mixed Plate for lunch. They had just recently reopened after a remodel and I believe they altered their menu as well, so my review is based on the restaurant post-remodel. We waited about 40 minutes to get a table for lunch around 1:30 pm on a Thursday but the food was good so we didn't mind! We started with sashimi and coconut shrimp and finished with the mixed plate and fish sandwich! They were a little backed up in the kitchen which they told us so there was a bit of a gap between courses but we had a beautiful oceanview to enjoy and @headsupvideos while we waited We also ordered a shrimp and mixed plate to go which came out fairly quickly. They just reopened so I'm sure they'll work out the kinks soon if they haven't already! read more

Such a nice atmosphere to be able to look out into the ocean while you enjoy a happy hour Mai Tai ($3.50) and your meal. Happy hour is from 2-6pm and for that low price, the value can't be beat. My husband and I ordered the garlic furikake fries to start and they were phenomenal. So much flavor. For our entrées, we got the beachside mixed plate and the chow funn and split them. First day in Maui after a long flight. Wanted to relax and soak in the island while enjoying some good eats. Aloha mixed plate delivered. Easy going, outdoors island atmosphere with an ocean view. Relaxing reggae in the background melts the stress away. Food: If you love seafood and feel adventurous, I recommend starting with the Ahi Tuna Poke. Raw Tuna in an asian/teriyaki sauce was fresh and flavorful. Protip: My main course came with two scoops of steamed rice. Mix some rice with the rest of your Tuna and you kick it up a notch! Main: I went for the Pork and Cabbage. Was served with two scoops of steamed rice and mac and cheese. The pork was devine. If you love good slow cooked BBQ, you got to go with the Pork. You can thank me with a on this review. Wife went with the Burger. She enjoyed the flavor but said she didn't care for the texture. I tried it and had to agree with her. Not a deal breaker. Good food but inconsistent with the serving. Very friendly staff. The place has a great view. Just awesome. The host and the waitress were very nice. Greeted us with a smile. My food was tasty but here's the problem. Both my wife and I ordered the fried rice with the two eggs. My wife's serving of rice was about 1/3 larger than mine and she had pork meat on it. Mine was smaller and had NO meat on it. They both had ham but I didn't get any of the other type of meat they put on it. Well worth leaving the resorts for. A much better dining experience and value. Save your $ and better cuisine. The poke was excellent. We were told we'd have a 35 minute wait, and it was only 10. The hostess seated us at the tables closest to the shore, so we had an excellent view with background noise from the next door luau. The flickering of the tiki torches was a nice touch. Service was attentive. Our Road to Hana guide gave this place high marks from a local. This is really a 4.5 due to: Chow Funn was average. We came here a few years ago and it was just okay but decided to give it a try again this trip. We had a wonderful experience! Our servers were friendly and attentive. The coconut prawns with the sweet chili chutney were delicious. I ordered the Aloha Mixed Plate - it was a great combination - the fish was fresh and cooked perfectly! My husband got the Shoyu Chicken and he loved it. The drinks were good too. The have remodeled since we were here last and it is very comfortable with a great view. The dining area is right next to Old Lahaina Luau so you get to hear a little bit of that which is kind of nice. With so many expensive restaurants in Lahaina, it is nice to find one that has great food and reasonable prices. read more

One word: YUM. Aloha Mixed Plate is always our first stop, and our last stop when visiting Maui. They have a gorgeous view, a wonderful cocktail hour, and the food is to die for! Make sure you come hungry!! My favorite treat is a big, old Loco Moco. Something I would never eat back home, always my favorite treat while on vacation in paradise. This place has an amazing view of the ocean and great open seating. The food was sooo good and our server Megan was a delight. Whatever she recommended was very good. Our very kind server Chisa was super helpful in helping us pick out what we wanted and what was the best authentic Hawaiian dishes. The Sassy Wahine and Lychee-chi cocktails were so good, freshly blended and not too sweet. To eat we got the Poke of the day Breaded Teri Beef Sandwich which were excellent. I had never had Loco Moco before (even when I was in Hawaii a few months ago I didn't get a chance to try it!). But it was so good! Can't beat this place, right on the water. Kind of in a weird location behind the Lungs Drugs on a frontage road in Lahaina. But I would come here for Loco Moco for every meal if I could. My mom had the shoyu chicken and said it was delicious too. The parking lot wasn't huge, so I would imagine it would get really packed. We came for lunch on a week day and still had to wait a couple of minutes. I would recommend this to everyone I know. read more

Amidst the many delicious foods I ate on my recent trip to Maui, this place stands above the rest because of the food, service, and view. While it was extremely busy, everyone was extremely kind and courteous, not at all affected by the chaos around them (at least not outwardly!) I made a reservation for my party of 6 and I highly recommend that you call beforehand to see if you can do the same. My food...was sublime. I got the house special with the local fish of the day and was honestly blown away. It came piled on a bed of veggies, rice, and paired wonderfully with a guava soda. Save room for dessert!! The pineapple upside down cake is to die for and as a rule, you gotta eat as much pineapple as you can when you're on an island that grows them as for the view, the sunset glowing over some boats in the horizon literally made that place look like a postcard. MAUI: Aloha Mixed Plate: My sense of AMP before we went was tthat his was a casual eatery serving basic but quintessential Hawaiian fare, moderately priced. I knew that they were near the beach, popular, and had a good happy hour. I also heard that because of their position next to the most popular Luau, you could hear some cool music while you eat. That made it sound like a good place to go for our first night while were tired from travel and needing something cheerful but low key. I was smart enough to make a reservation even though it wasn't the place I thought you'd need one, especially for the early 530 Happy Hour time. It was a great thing I made a reservation, for one. People eat EARLY in Maui for many reasons. I think the beach activities often mean folks don't get a big proper meal during the day and they're ready to grub after cleaning up showering. Another reason is the sunset is early and some clever people like myself like to align sunset views for dinner when they're eating near the water. And of course, lots of families traveling and young kids eat early. I highly recommend reserving all your meals, even ones that seem like casual spots, because Maui is seriously packed with vacationers who all want to eat well, and we needed ALL of the reservations we made. We booked 2-3 weeks ahead and still had some limitations with the rezzies I wanted. Next time I'll book 4 weeks ahead for Maui! I wasn't expecting AMP to have such stunning ambiance. It was casual in the sense that it wasn't a fancy restaurant, but it provided jaw dropping ocean views and a remarkably sexy ambiance. The setting definitely screamed "Welcome to Maui", The happy hour menu provided some interesting deals on food and drink, but wan't a game changer. I'm not sure we ended up ordering anything off the happy hour menu. As we were on a Babymoon, I took a mocktail of Lychee Lemonade, but my husband tried a bloody mary. We sat next to a woman on the plane who had recommended visiting AMP ("we have a reservation tonight!") and told us she loved their bloody marys. He said it def packed a wallop of flavor. My husband got the poke of the day which was Marlin. They accommodated his may allergy and prepared it in other style. I couldn't have any because of being pregnant. It looked and smelled amazing, such huge fresh chunks of fish meat. He said it was steak-like fish and he seemed to relish his first poke of the trip. I had their signature "Mixed Plate" which came with teriyaki beef, shoyu chicken, and grilled white fish with white rice and mac salad. DH had a fish sandwich for his main. I really enjoyed my mixed plate, tho it was so huge I couldn't finish it even having skipped a real lunch and not having an appetizer. It would be great to share a mixed plate and a couple apps is my idea for others. (DH is a "pescaturk" so he doesn't eat chix or beef.) The fish surprised me as it looked like a piece of plain, dry white fish. It wasn't dry at all and it was quite tasty tho simple. One of my favorite things about being in Maui is plain white fish is not "boring" to me as it is on the mainland. It tastes fresh with better flavor and texture than it does at home, IMHO. The beef was nothing special but hit the spot and the chicken was quite moist and flavorful with it's saucy marinade. DH seemed happy with his sandwich tho it surely wasn't as special as his poke. We were seated right on the water and the sunset view was utterly magical. The proximity to the water is really something. The service was great and the vibe was mellow and lovely. This is one I would prioritize coming to not necessarily for mind-blowing food, but solid, tasty regional food at a reasonable price with an exceptionally delightful atmosphere well suited to families or honeymooners. Since we visited Maui after we went to Oahu, we have already had a good sense of how Hawaiian food tastes. This place was very underwhelming for us. We expected the food to be mind blowing from all the rave Yelp reviews. We waited about 20 minutes before getting seated. And once we did, it took about 10-15 minutes before our waitress came to take our order. We ordered the Beachside Mixed plate. This comes with beef, chicken, and kalbi short rib. We asked if we could substitute one of the scoops of rice for ma salad. The waitress said it was okay to do so, but she also did not mention that it would be an extra charge. (It would've been nice to know ahead of time, instead of seeing it on the receipt later.) we also ordered the garlic fries. Those are fries topped with real garlic and furikake. It only comes with 1 piece of short rib, and they were pretty tough to eat. The meat was still stuck on the bone and very hard to eat. The beef lacked in flavor and was very dry. My favorite part of the dish was the chicken since it was moist and had flavor. Overall, my favorite thing from the whole night were the French fries. Being from California, I can honestly say that I would rather have Ono's Hawaiian BBQ instead. Either that, or go back to Oahu for Hawaiian food. read more

My family and I went on a Saturday night with no reservation and waited for over an hour. With that said, definitely try to plan ahead and make a reservation. All seating is outside and catching the sunset while enjoying your dinner is a bonus. The Manila clams were so good! Definitely recommend that as a starter. My husband and I were both happy with our meals and our waitress, Jamie, was excellent! She was so sweet to my young daughter and I really enjoyed talking with her. Food is pretty good and so are the drinks but imo not the best local food that Maui offers. What it does offer is cheap prices and an AMAZING (sunset) view. Their can be a decent wait but you can always order a drink at the bar while you wait. Service is pretty good and friendly as well. They provide the food for the Lahaina Luau which is right next door so sometimes you can hear the show going and see the performers run back and forth from the stage right past the restaurant which is pretty cool.
