So I called for takeout for a large pizza. The menu literally says $19 for a large pizza you walk inside and there's a big sign for the menu that says $19 for the pizza you look at the brochures of the menu. It also says $19 for the pizza so when I made the call, I'm assuming it's gonna be $19 for the pizza I go and pick up my pizza and the man tells me $25. I asked him why is the $25? He says taxes I said $19 plus tax not 25. He then tells me that the prices have changed things change and prices need to go up. I asked him why it has a change of signs at $19. Came here around 7pm on a Monday night. The location gives me the creeps since it's in an area that's not well lit and on a lonely street corner. Upon first glance it's not the cleanest and it's SO HOT inside. There's so much stuff everywhere. It feels like I'm in someone's house or garage. I was greeted right away and ordered a slice of cheese pizza. He said my order would be done in 7 minutes which was nice. I stood outside and waited for my order. I don't know how they can operate in a place that's literally 110 degrees with no fans or AC. My order was done and piping hot when he handed it to me. My total was $4. Not bad, since it was a decent size slice and had some weight to it. I didn't want to eat inside or outside so I went back to my car to have a look at my order. There was so much cheese and it was messily thrown on. I was a bit hesitant to taste it. I noticed that it was cut into 4 narrow slices instead of 2 like most New York pizza locations. I took my first bite and I was pleasantly surprised. It was baked all the way through, the sauce was not too acidic, and the cheese was fine. The crust is slightly thicker than other New York pizza locations. I didn't like it at first, but I eventually got used to it. I ended up eating the whole thing in a matter of minutes so that's all that matters. Giving this location a 4/5 because it is a small business and I had a decent first time experience. My only complaints would be: -it's way too hot to eat inside -the bathroom could use some organization and a good scrubbing (put the toilet paper and paper towels on a holder!) -clean up the front of the house so it doesn't feel like someone's house/garage -clean up the front so it looks more welcoming (ditch the fake flowers!) add a fan or two inside I can see myself coming back here since I hate Jack in the Box and Burger King. They have quite an extensive menu and have all the toppings you can imagine. They have several different types of pizza and vegetarian options. Each pizza is made upon ordering. I was currently running an errand when I passed by this place on Fremont Blvd. I noticed the front decor was stepped up to make it more recognizable and it worked because it made me want to check this place out again from the last time I visited which was a few or some years ago. Glad I did. Ordered a slice of Hawaiian special and a slice of combination to go, the lady taking my order seemed nice and patient as I was glad to be there. After I placed my order I needed to use the restroom and they didn't seem to have public restrooms available. I didn't ask, but I remembered there was a Starbucks nearby that I could use to do my duty. Of course, I ordered a small mocha Frappuccino to go so I could use their facilities. There and back at Al!s for some good eats on some good pizza. Their crust is kind of thin and their ingredients are fresh. Decided to eat the Hawaiian there and the combo to go. I really think this place deserves a single star, but I'm being considerate of it being a family business. First, when ordering on Yelp, there is no option for Pepperoni. You are presented with two options under "what's good" , one for cheese, the other for combination. You can add pepperoni to the cheese after selecting it, but after doing this, we were still given a CHEESE pizza! Thanks for screwing that up guys. I have to write this review for two reasons.. 1)this place is a disgrace to a NY pizza. And 2)how do you mess up a plain cheese pizza??! I've been to New York multiple times and each time, we literally spent every day going from spot to spot trying out one slice at a time. I've also visited many NY pizza joints around the Bay Area in an attempt to enjoy that NY Slice again. Some get close, but many are just regular Pizza with large slices carrying the "NY pizza" name. NY Pizza is a classic thin crust with a nice crisp bottom. The bread is also VERY specific and really, can only be experienced in NY for some reason (they say it's the water). Pepperoni is also a staple of a classic NY pizza.. or any pizza for that matter. So why is it not your "what's good" list and why did I not get it when I clicked on the option to "add pep". That's alright.. I like things that are good, so your claim that Cheese is "what's good".. Maybe I lucked out.. and just paid more for the experience. I have NEVER... had to add salt to my finished pizza. Either the pepperoni adds in the saltiness or the cheese has the salt. At the least.. your sauce is salted... and delicious. I had to add salt to my pizza today.. it was a very unusual feeling. Even with the salt, it was barely palatable. The dough here, is thick and dense... it also has a very unusual bitterness to it with every bite. It does have an almost perfect crust on the bottom, but it almost doesn't matter if your dough tastes like dense bitter cardboard. I don't know the last time ordered a bad pizza.. other than Dominos (tried it a few months ago with high hopes of the "rebrand".. it's still junk). Little Caesar's even manages to make a flavorful pizza. Has anyone tried 7/11 pizza yet? It's actually pretty good if you can get it when it's not dried up into a brick... even then, it still has more flavor in its sauces and cheese than what I experienced here. The cheese pizza (remember, I ordered pepperoni) from Al's "New York" pizza is bland AF and with the bitter bread, all you get is a highly dissatisfying pizza experience. So much so.. that between two hungry people and a large pizza, we only ate 1 slice each.. and actually, one slice wasn't even fully finished. I'll typically have 3-4 slices anytime there is pizza. We also ordered some garlic bread.. which typically is going to be very flavorful. Sadly, these guys can't do this right either, and it was just as bland as their pizza. Overall... a hard 1 star pizza. Probably the worst pizza I've ever had, and I've had a lot of bad pizza, not one as bland as this one, with the exception of the bitter bite of your bread. I'm sorry Al, but your cheese Pizza is a massive fail and undeserving of the NY name, let alone "pizza". A comment was made by my pizza eating partner that "this looks like school pizza"... and you know what... the pizza at school was better than our pizza today. read more

The crust was slightly burnt on the bottom and seemed underdone on the top portion having a doughy texture. Toppings were good, but not enough cheese and overall not the most tasteful. Seemed lacking in the spice department. The king kong size may have affected the crust cooking process. A smaller size may have been better cooked throughout. Still, overall lacking in taste. This review of Al's pizza will cover two visits. 1. I saw on Yelp that Al's was a new restaurant in the neighborhood, so I went to order. I went to what I thought was their own website, which turned out to be a third party website called "slice." I ordered a gourmet veggie which said it would include "artichokes, mushrooms, zucchini, red onion, garlic, tomato, and white sauce". I added extra cheese and chicken. After I went to check out, it told me the pizza was 50% off (remember this). I went to pick up, and was pleased to see that it was a family run restaurant. I have worked in a similar family owned pizza restaurant in the past so it was nostalgic for me. When I took the pizza home and opened it, I found that there was no artichoke OR mushrooms. At all. The first two ingredients described. Nada. What I had left was a onion, garlic, and tomato pizza. Luckily I ordered chicken otherwise it would have been sad. As you can tell by the photos I've posted, paying for extra cheese still does not guarantee that all your slices will actually have cheese on them. The bread was good, sort of bland but a good base nonetheless, and ingredients I actually received were used sparingly (see photo). The chicken was good, not every slice had a piece, but it was there. I guess. After this first pizza, I cut them some slack. New business, family owned, maybe they're still working it out. They seem like a good family. So I decided to order again another weekend. 2. For my second visit, I ordered the vegetarian pizza and added on chicken (again, that I paid extra for). This one actually came with all of the ingredients, but the chicken was not the same. I got to my car, opened the box to check (because last time they left out a few things) and noticed the chicken looked weird. I quickly realized that it was some sort of breaded chicken nugget. Now, I understand that people can be cheap with ingredients sometimes, but I've never, never, ever seen chicken nuggets on a pizza. I went back inside and asked the man, who I assume is the owner, to explain why there are chicken nuggets on my pizza. Among his responses: "some people prefer chicken nuggets". Really? Who would prefer breaded chicken to grilled chicken? He also said that that is the type of chicken they have, which is false because last time I got real chicken. I told him so, and he apologized. I even brought up the first pizza which was missing ingredients, and he told me they were out. Why didn't he simply call me and say that? He said he could remake the pizza without the chicken nuggets, but I need to have dinner and get ready for the work week. If he's willing to put chicken nuggets on a pizza, I can't imagine what toppings he'll add for the guy who complained . I kindly said no thanks, I'll just remove the nuggets and eat the pizza he already made. I tried explaining to him that this is not OK, and he apologized. He then asked me for my name. I told him my name is Jawad (middle eastern). He then told me "our people" are unforgiving and one mistake is enough to lose "our" trust. I told him race has nothing to do with this, which is true; I ordered an item, I got another item, I am entitled to ask WHY. At some point the truth finally slips out. He says "this is the cheapest pizza you can get". I immediately knew he was upset that I received a discount. I ask him to elaborate, and he says he's only making X amount of dollars on the pizza and the website is getting the rest. Please explain to me, did someone force him to offer a discount? Was I supposed to insist on paying full price? Of course not. A discount is meant to attract new customers. I am a new customer. The discount worked. It was his job to win me over as a regular customer, which I was completely ready to become. But you cannot skimp on quality and expect me to return. Just because it is at a discounted price does not mean I should receive an inferior product. Seriously, if you're not happy giving promotions, then don't! I accepted my nugget pizza and walk out the door. The entire time I was firm yet respectful. He comes to the door and shuts it behind me. Completely disrespectful and honestly disappointing. I put the pizza down, ask him to open the door, and shook his hand. I told him not to be upset. And honestly, if he cannot accept my feedback, how do they expect to improve? What if he genuinely did not know that there was the issues with the pizza? I wish I could have given Al's a 4 star review and praised the dough and given helpful information on how to make it a 5 star on my next visit. This deserves the "1 star when it should be 0 stars" treatment. My husband and I put in a pickup order for a large Pesto Chicken pizza via GrubHub. We went to the place which didn't even look like was open...door was locked and no one answered the phone listed on this Yelp page. What confuses me even further was that when we put in our complaint and request for an order cancellation, GrubHub was able to contact the business? Who then said the Pesto Chicken pizza wasn't available?? The customer has a phone number, contact them directly! We only wanted pizza because we heard of a great place called Pazzo, which unfortunately is closed on Sundays. This had looked promising, but now we know is a complete dud. We were so surprised that our giant meat lover's pizza was so good that it remind us that we were in New Jersey.
