Visiting Jacksonville for a wedding, we had several family members staying in the city. Going out to dinner with 12 people is not my idea of fun. The desk receptionist recommends Al's. It was perfect. We bought 4 large pizzas. Buffalo chicken was delicious, wonderful flavor. Pepperoni had ample meat on it. The deluxe pizza looked great. Went to San Marco location for a feel good meal and picked the wrong place. I ordered chicken parmigiana with salad. My Sweetie had eaten so only want cannoli. She asked if they were fresh? Which she got a very positive yes only to have them come out stale. Which the server then had them open fresh ones. If someone asks as a service person a question one would think they would make sure they attend to that. The chicken parmigiana was some frozen Tyson Patties with drastically over coked noodles and whole plate of sauce. Server did give a free pizza coupon to return so we shall see. read more

I'm not a Pizza guy by all means but this place always hits home for me. If you are getting the New York blues and wish you can grab some 2 Bro's pizza. This place is the closest you can get! I always get their Pizza by the slice because they do it quite quickly and quite very good, regular cheese and pepperoni and pineapples. Splash some parm, and crushed red, and I'm all set! One thing that stands out is their dough. Its not too thin but its crispy at the bottom. The toppings are very well balanced. Cheese is very good and gooey!, and the slice is not saggy either! Definitely hits the spot. On Thursdays, they serve a $1 beer, I can't really complain about anything. You can see them making your pizza which is a nice touch. In our recent visit, it was really busy so we were just admiring the crew move like clockwork. Then the manager saw us, said we shouldn't be waiting that long usually, and gave us free drinks! We were very disappointed in the crust and composition of the pizza. We got it to go, maybe it's great when eating at the restaurant?? But, literally ate it w/in 40mins from pu reheating on a pizza stone properly. The dough was very chewy. (Maybe too much gluten??) Very tough to chewy. I've eaten Al's Pizza weekly for well over a decade and I have consistently loved the pizza and enjoyed excellent service. However, in the past several months, the prices have increased about 50%. I understand there have been supply-chain problems and prices increases generally with the pandemic. I have no issue with paying higher prices for good food and good service, IF THE PEOPLE WHO DO THE WORK, those who prepare and serve the food, and the front-line managers, are getting a fair share of the increased prices reflected in their pay. But, according to servers I have spoken to at Al's, that is not the case. So, at Al's Pizza--again my experience has been good food and good service--the prices have gone up by half, but there has been no increase in pay for those who prepare and serve the food. That is, increase in prices but no increase in pay for those who do the most essential frontline work, and who have been classified as 'essential workers' during the pandemic, and yet are chronically, and currently at Al's Pizza, vastly underpaid. That is just wrong, ethically and morally as well as socially and practically based on good management principles. As much as I have enjoyed the food and service at Al's Pizza, I am deeply disappointed in how they treat and pay their workers. Do better Al's, much better, for your frontline employees. read more

Al's Pizza is voted as Folio's and Jacksonville Magazine's best pizza for the last couple of years. I love their Pizza especially by the slice. Their ingredients are fresh and their cheese is better than most Pizza establishments. Today I wanted strictly Italian fair not pizza and I was not disappointed. My order of sausage and peppers parmigiana with two large Italian sausages and fire roasted peppers entree came with a house salad and garlic bread. Make sure you ask for light Italian dressing for a traditional type of Italian dressing otherwise everything else is creamy. The garlic bread never disappoints it is soft on the inside,buttery and garlicly delicious. Al's Pizza Italian Fair is my next best substitute since Pizza Italiano is no longer open in Five Points. Saying that means that Al's Pizza Italian food is worth the effort. read more

Jennifer was our server and she's an absolute professional and delight. Food is great. My pizza and cannolis are delish and worth the trip! Just came in to eat lunch. Hostess told me to sit anywhere that I want so I sat 2nd table from the door so I was visible. Waited 10 minutes for a server to drop off a menu and acknowledge that I was there. No server came. Upon entering you'll notice a bit of a modern/industrial decor with plenty of seating. There are a few seats outside as well. The bar has 11 seats, first come seating. The staff is typical fast food Italian type friendliness, this is not an upscale establishment. The smells coming from the kitchen will make you salivate. I couldn't find current information on happy hour, so FYI happy hour M-F 3-6PM with $1 drafts and wine by the glass. They have special happy hour on Thursday. I thought maybe the prices were just a bit high on a few items. Desserts are $7. I've never eaten a cannoli at any establishment worth $7, must be a winner. The pizza crust was slightly crunchy and chewy but not very flavorful. The pizza was loaded with toppings, and the ham was in nice chunks. The pineapple was canned. Boo! Fresh pineapple is so much better, use fresh! Not enough sauce on the pizza either, what I could taste of it was good They use plastic straws and cups to go and plastic containers, so if you're worried about being environmentally friendly, yeah. My daughter has been begging my wife and I to go up to Al's on dollar slice night for quite some time. I've been to Al's before and enjoyed it, but never dollar slice night in Riverside. I guess I should be honored that my 18 year old daughter wants his dad and step-mom to come hang with her and her friends! So... we finally went and had a blast. Good pizza for a dollar? Yes please! The house wines where also very cheap. Were they the best wine I've had? No. But they weren't bad and for a $1.50 per glass, you can't go wrong. Yelp comes through again helping us find an Al's pizza within walking distance of our B&B - seriously, I WALKED there and it was merely 874 steps according to my pedometer. We wanted some take-out to enjoy in the comfort of our room AND to keep our pooch company. We decided on the lasagna and the pesto chicken penne. Both were quite tasty, but it's very hearty fare, that sits in your gut and sits and sits... As good as they were, they would have been perhaps just a nudge over 4 stars even in the inexpensive Italian food arena. What pushed it over the top were: 1) The UNBELIEVABLY fresh salad, of spring mix and all SORTS of other goodies - a salad that rivals the one that costs $15 at Seasons 52 I had a week later. OK - THAT one had chunks of sushi grade tuna in it, but THIS one - this one comes with the meal. The care they took even packing it was itself impressive, albeit a little guilt-inducing for this tree-hugger. The ranch dressing was quite pedestrian. 2) The great value: the 2 entrees were $11 and $12; they come with that salad, and a sub-sized loaf of garlic bread for EACH entree, with the bread alone being enough to sustain a small family for a blackout or two. My wife could not finish her dinner, even though she liked it very much. Foolish me, I did the Chinese "waste-not-want-not", and now it's turned into "waist that no one wants". The decor of the restaurant itself was very nice as well: super friendly staff, great vibes - an inviting place. We were really tempted to eat here more than once, but with such a short stay, that didn't work out. The success speaks for itself - this is a mini chain in the JAX area, and it was busy when I picked up my food. They don't offer anything that you'd describe as a gastronomical wonderment, but what they do, they do VERY well at an amazing price for what you get. Highly recommended. read more

I am by no means a pizza connoisseur. Sure, I come from an partly Italian family, I know my grandmother's secret meatball recipe, and I am a fan of lasagna, but pizza has never struck much of a positive chord with me. In fact, I'm so skeptical of gourmet pizza places, you would have never seen me at Al's if it hadn't been for my mother's birthday. From the outside, the parking is ample and the building looks sturdy and classy. Inside, the design is simplistic yet elegant with a modern flare. There's a long, full bar, booths, tables, and even an open kitchen. I cannot stress enough how clean the restaurant is as well as the coolness of the atmosphere. Service was prompt, even with our table of 6 made up of our boisterous Italian family fully-equipped with the gift of the gab and hand gestures so extravagant that a few taxi cabs may have accidentally stopped outside. Kaye was our waitress who handled us like a veteran wielding all the necessary tools - patience, knowledge, clarity, and a swift response time. She was so fast, you'd have thought that she moonlighted in emergency services in her off-time. She knew which items were fresh and those which were not. Thankfully, most of the menu was fresh and made in-house. I asked Kaye for her recommendations and she was quick to respond with her personal favorites, some of which I sampled happily. The mussels appetizer was quite large, well-priced, and by far THE BEST I have ever had served to me in any restaurant, in a beautiful sauce that I ate with a spoon when I ran out of bread! The calamari was light, crispy, and not rubbery what-so-ever, taking into consideration that squid does have some natural elasticity. Entrees were made up of a few custom pizzas, one Greek pizza, and stuffed shells Florentine. When the pizzas arrived, I was impressed by their appearance, but still skeptical. I sampled a few of the toppings separately and the flavor profiles were bold and fresh. All together, the pizzas were prepared beautifully and practically melted in your mouth with a beautiful crust that is both crisp and soft. Overall, I had a fantastic time, loved the food, and Kaye (the service) was phenomenal. And even though I'm not often in the mood for pizza, Al's has struck my sweet spot, featuring Italian classics side-by-side with artisan pizzas that taste wonderful. I will return, and I hope that if you're reading this, I'll have convinced you to stop by and have Kaye show you the way to a delightful dining experience. read more

There are but a few times when the culmination of taste, decor & service create a perfect storm of unadulterated eating out pleasure! This is not 1 of those times but it's pretty good. LOL! The location is awesome and the decor and setting has that new place look and feel. I was greeted promptly and seated, though the table was dirty but the server noticed and cleaned it off. I ordered 2 pizza slices (a meat - Pepperoni, Italian sausage, beef, ham, crispy bacon and extra cheese & a deluxe -Pepperoni, ground beef, sausage, green peppers, mushrooms, red onions, and extra cheese) and 2 Yuengling drafts which was enough to fill a 6 ft 215 lb dude, being me. :0 The pizza was good, hot & fresh with a slightly crisp crust....see my pic...they speak a thousand words. I did notice it took a while to get my food & the place had only about 4 tables (less than 20% of the restaurant capacity by my estimate) of patrons. Just makes me wonder how long it would take had they been busy. Anyway the service was good as I was engaged/approached by at least 3 workers while there....multiple engagement speaks to trained personnel in the art & importance of customer service. This was my very 1st time but I foresee returning in the not-too-distant future. My original plan was to go to Renna's Pizza in River City which I did only to find they're out of business. :( Glad I had Al's as a backup plan. read more

We were greeted and seated (balcony) immediately, even though it was lunchtime. It didn't seem too busy inside. The weather was great, as was the view of the water. Our waitress came over very quickly for drink order and then back again for our lunch order. I ordered a ricotta and carmelized onion pizza and my aunt a mushroom pizza. Both were served hot and delicious! The thin crust was flavorful.
