Very solid Italian food with a family ran feel! I work nearby so we come many times during lunch to grab some food and every time we've all enjoyed our meals. This most recent time I went and picked up the food and when stepping inside the atmosphere of this restaurant is exactly what you wanted it to be. It feels like a family came together to create this wonderful restaurant. I have ordered both the chicken marsala and the meatball sub and I can say both were delicious! Shrimp scampi had way too much lemon in it. Wasn't sure if they were trying to make lemonade or shrimp scampi. 3. Lasagna - standard 4. Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. Sauce mid. Chicken. Looked like it was boiled then thrown into the sauce. No flavor and really weird texture. 5. I also ordered a sandwich that never got into my to go order. Had to drive back to get it. The person that worked there apologize and gave me a free cheesecake. I can appreciate recognizing and trying to make it right without me complaining. 6. The place was great! The chicken Marsala, salad and bread was very plentiful and delicious. My step father treated me here for my birthday. He told me to choose. This was close to his home, so I chose this place. This was my first time here. This place has been on my bucket list. The service was good. I felt right at home here. Most may like the cheese loaded on top and the layers on the interior. But that's not what's best! Most may love the superb marinara - and it is fabulous! But that's not what's best! What is best is the spiced up meat in the middle. It stands out like perfectly in an already close to perfect lasagna! Well, at least I can't think of any knocks on this or the other spaghetti meatball dish my friend and I ordered on the visit. Matt's has been around for over 31 years and is a staple in the area. Hakan, the owner of this restaurant now, was gracious to spend some time chatting with me to let me know he kept the recipes the same and people in the community continue to visit in droves. It was slow there on my visit but the service was great and I always love the classic look of a ma and pa shop. The seating is mostly by booths in classic wooden frames. If you like that style (and I do!) this is a place you must visit :D And make sure you order the tiramisu for dessert! It's terrific! For sure, you'll enjoy a good meal here. We were in the neighborhood for a Yelp dessert event and decided to try this place for dinner. It was a good decision. Service was quick from both the hostess and our waitress. The menu has plenty of appetizers, salads and soups, as well as entrees. I started with the minestrone soup and it was very tasty. For my entree I had the antipasto salad. It was a very big and tasty salad with plenty of lettuce, tomatoes, pepperoni, ham, onions, green peppers, olives and mozzarella cheese. My husband had the chicken piccatta with pasta. It's hard to give a better than 3 review. We had been there twice before, but friends wanted to go. I really wanted bruschetta when we got there as an appetizer, or even cheese sticks, but they don't do either. There were 6 of us and each got different entrees. My chicken Parmesan was greasy and not really hot, and the side of spaghetti was just ok and the waitress had said it was homemade, and I can't believe that. I did like the side salad and the garlic " buns" were ok. My hubby had chicken cacciatore and he said it was ok. They were short staffed and numerous tables sat piled with dishes all through our meal. The meatballs were good/ but there was a picture in the menu of a huge meatball which we thought we would get 2-3 to share, but they don't make anything but small/ 4 to an order. I would like to rate it higher, but to me it was not near as good as Vito's, Catullos. House Italian or others. We Dined in and I got the meatball appetizer turned out to be 4 small meatballs .For the main dish I got Lasagna and my Wife got the chicken ravioli. The food here left a lot to be desired. The ziti had an absurd amount of cheese (and I am a huge cheese lover), making it almost inedible. The chicken parm sub was just okay, but lacked any real flavor and we had to get some extra marinara from our cabinet to dip it in to make it any good. This is by far my favorite pizza spot in Jacksonville. I've been eating here for as long as I can remember. The delicious thin crust and that melty cheese. We usually go with a pepperoni pizza, the best I've ever had. I've only eaten in maybe twice; we usually order carry-out. Inside is a cute little restaurant that gives off Italian restaurant vibes. My husband called a restaurant around the corner called Matt's Italian cuisine and ordered three full meals because he couldn't decide what we would want since there are so many delicious items on the menu. My husband really wanted a Stromboli. The one pictures is stuffed with cheese, sausage, and pepperoni. I must say the Stromboli smelled delicious when my husband walked through the door. The taste was amazing. The lasagna was fresh, moist and made to perfection. It was not runny or over saturated with tomate sauce so it did not fall apart- which is a big deal for me. I dislike runny lasagnas. The Alfredo fettuccini/ chicken parmigiana was so creamy and the pasta was soft and freshly made. The meal took 30 minutes to make and it cost around $44. Disappointingly, it was made with those little light-brown frozen meatballs that have a the consistency of a sponge. The sauce was ok and the bread was standard.
