Never again! Al's Ponte Vedra Beach has been steadily going down hill in the last year during their growth spurt. We got 2 pizza's to go and when we got home and started to eat them I was stunned. The tomato sauce was so sweet that I couldn't even eat a few bites. My wife loves sugar but agreed that not so much in tomato sauce to over power it. Both trashed. Won't make that mistake again. Ordered carry out pizza online (through a website in desperate need of an upgrade) and waited longer than the suggested time before arriving to pick up only to be told that although the order was received, it was never started and we would have to wait in the store for them to get the order processed and prepared or they could just cancel the order....all this according to the seemingly unsupervised young adults working. No apology, no compensation...just too bad, so sad. Of course we cancelled the order and went to another restaurant. After contacting the location through its website, there was still no attempt at correcting the situation....not even a reply. We went to Al's Sun afternoon for an early dinner. We ordered a meat lovers and a white pizza and both were good and the service was good. The reason I'm giving only 3 stars is because the restaurant was absolutely filthy! They let us seat ourselves and it was hard to find a table clean! The floors had not been swept in a long time. The worst part was after my meal I went to the men's room and it was absolutely disgusting! Someone had puked in the urinal and there was urine and toilet paper all over the floor! Even food particles in the sink! If I would have seen this before I ordered I would have walked out! Tried Al's as a recommendation and must say the pizza was not very good. I ordered a one topping pizza and it's almost as if the chef ran out the topping because one side of the pizza had almost no topping on it. The flavor was bland and the other people I was with did not seem to care for theirs either. We took our leftovers home but did not eat them. I know Al's seem popular but I will continue to hunt for a better pizza joint. My husband and I were in the mood for some pizza so we looked around the area and decided to try Als. I was a little apprehensive after I looked through the yelp reviews, but decided to try it out. The delivery time took less time then expected which was nice (we were quoted within the hour, and it probably took around 30 minutes). We ordered garlic sticks, a garden salad, and a medium pizza (which really seemed like a large). Salad was good - they have a lot more mix-ins then most restaurants do (mushrooms, cheese, green peppers, olives, onions) and the creamy Italian was great. The sticks were decent, but the marinara sauce was amazing. It tasted fresh and homemade. The pizza was really good, and a lot better then expected (from yelp reviews). The only issue we had was that because we were in a hotel, we didn't have silverware or plates. When I ordered the pizza, I stated we were in the hotel, but only got one silverware set (try sharing a fork with a hungry husband). The food is good but I recently had a bad service experience I need to share. I ordered baked ZitI for my son from the kids menu. It did not describe tomato sauce anywhere in the description, only pasta with cheese...baked. I ordered it. When the server brought it to our table I politely refused it because my son does not eat any but the most minimal amount of tomato out of choice. The server became defensive and tried to explain that "everything on the kids menu had tomato sauce". Two of the items, lasagna and the ziti do not describe in this way. I accept that lasagna is known to have tomato sauce but it's not unreasonable to regard baked ziti as less common and more malleable as a dish. After she brought out a replacement I tried to smooth the situation by explaining my son's habits in a friendly way. She walked away with a "uh huh" and a disssmissive hand wave over her shoulder. Then a cook in a dirty apron came outside where we were eating, scowled at us, and went back inside. There have been other times when I have seen cooks eating on the line and other oddities. I don't think we will go back and it's a shame because the food really is quite good. However, there always seems to be a lax and unprofessional approach to service. read more

I think Al's is getting a bit big for their britches. Last weekend I called to place an order to pick up on my way home from the beach. First, what is it with pizza shops when you call and the first thing out of their mouth is "please hold"? Seriously, are you ALWAYS that busy? Anyway, they put me on hold, and after five minutes or so, I hung up and called back. Guess what? Say damn thing - PLEASE HOLD! Again, I was on hold for five or so minutes, and then gave up and called one of their competitors. Bottom line: Al's lost over a $40 order because they couldn't find time to take my damn order. There is a good chance I'll just call that competitor going forward because the pizza was excellent. read more

I hate leaving bad reviews BUT this is not authentic Italian style pizza. Al's is American pizza. The sauce barley has any flavor and it tastes like cardboard. When I think of delicious pizza I think NY Style homemade with a delicious sauce and fresh crust. Not here. Good luck! read more

Tried this place a couple times and really it's just a hot mess. My husband and I went on a Friday night and it was chaos. The cooks in front of the kitchen were yelling and fighting with the cooks in the back. The place was disheveled and the servers were frazzled. I'd chalk it up to an off night, but it wasn't the first time the food was mediocre. The chicken marsala is weirdly overly sweet and served with un-sauced, dry pasta. Chicken Parmigiana was excellent, flavorful and well prepared. The salad that accompanied the meal was large enough to be a meal in itself. I was at a conference in Ponte Vedra, staying at Sawgrass in the villas. I had the meal delivered. It was promptly delivered and was still hot and the delivery person was pleasant to deal with. Believe it or not, I am a discerning foodie but lately I've really just had some good food minus my review on 11 South. A great thing about Al's pizza is that they'll change out the pizza sauce on their pizzas. If you look on their menu, many of their pizzas are made with Alfredo sauce. As I am not a fan of Alfredo, and I do love my red sauce, it is great to be able to interchange these. Try their sweet 'n sour hawaiian pizza - with red sauce - blending banana peppers with pineapple along with chicken and bacon toppings on a nice crispy crust is yummy!! read more

My pizza got messed up at the store. They called me to let me know. It was delivered right away exactly as I ordered.... Even better than expected. I love the crispy crust and the toppings are "over the top". The sauce is not overpowering like other places. Al's Pizza is my most favorite of all time... BLT pizza; nothing short of genius, it taste exactly like a blt sandwich, they even drizzle mayo around the edges on the crust, I'd definitely order it again and recommend it too. I also had the garlic wings, they're on the spicy side but not blaringly so; I'm not into foods that set my tongue ablaze, these wings weren't that firy, the sauce was unique; although, I cannot put a finger on what it was made of, except garlic, very tasty though, the cheesecake was light and delightful drizzled with a raspberry sauce which was delish, I'll be trying out other offerings in the near future. I last ate at Al's about 6 months ago and they gave me a gift card because the meal was terrible, especially the pizza. They said give us another chance. Well I did today and I'm sorry I did. Had a large pizza and it was terrible. If you like New York style pizza, do not eat at Al's. If you like good crust and dough, it's like eating cardboard, do not eat here. If you like cheap mozzarella cheese, do not eat here. Sauce is like a cheap $1 bottle you buy off the shelf. If you like paying top dollar for a tasteless pizza, eat at Al's! Al's, I gave you another chance but I give up. There are other places in Ponte Vedra that have some pride and better pizza. I ate half of their extra large pizza in one sitting. The crust was good but not excellent. The sauce was very ordinary - nothing special but the tomatoes were chunky and very fresh tasting. The beer was only $3 (before 7pm) for a 16 oz draft! The wait staff is very friendly. I would go there again. $15pp with alcohol, tax and very generous tip. I ordered a fried chicken salad and Florentine shells. I liked that I was able to customize my salad's ingredients on the online ordering system, but I thought it was small and the chicken was both very dry and lacking. The breading had even fallen off of each mini strip. It was mostly lettuce and a few little pieces of chicken. The shells were ok, but the sauce didn't have any special flavor to it. The staff was friendly and my order was ready to pick up, even though I arrived earlier than the pickup time (I would have been upset if I got there on time and it was cold when I got home) and I was happy to see that they packaged my two salads together, rather than putting the side salad in the same bag as the stuffed shells (I hate warm lettuce!). I heard great things about Al's, but my own personal experience was pretty mediocre. Firstly, I was surprised by the size of the space. It looked pretty packed, so I originally thought they must have great food and service. However, that immediately changed when it took an hour to get a salad and a flatbread while the other people in my party received their salad in ten minutes or less. I split my order with a friend and he split his salad with me; the waitress told him the salad was huge, so we were under the assumption that we could split it and the flatbread. Yet, when we finally did get our food, the salad was small, and my flatbread (which, for its size, I thought it was a over priced) was cold. By the time we finally did get our food, we were starving, so there was no way I was going to send it back to be reheated. And, by the time we walked out, we were thinking of all the leftovers we could eat at home after that "snacked-sized, cold" meal. The staff was friendly, though. And, because it was so packed, we had to sit at the bar in front of the pizza kitchen staff. They were friendly as well. read more

This evening's large, Deluxe pizza suffered from an extremely undercooked center, verging on the edge of raw and rendering that part of the pie inedible. Disappointing. read more

Nice quaint location. Casual self seating. Reception could use some help greeting customers, not as friendly as could be. Once seated, received menus from a server. Drinks orders taken. We had another server come by ask if we were ok and if anyone mentioned to us the free appetizer when you download their app. Nice app with rewards. After that we sat and sat and sat, had to stop a waiter to take our order. Food order didn't take long at all. Small Greek Salad came out first, which was great tasting. We shared it with 3 people and was plenty. Then came fried ravioli which was even more tasting, crunchy and ooey gooey cheese. Yum! Our food was out before we knew it. We ordered Small 10in Al's White Chicken Florentine Pizza. Can be shared by two people for a light lunch. Nice and light, then crispy crust. We also ordered lunch portion Chicken Parmigiana. Easily can be shared with two people. Overall good was great! Service needs improvement. So a coworker and I had not been to Al's in years and I had convinced her to go again. What a mistake. We both ordered side salads and 1 slice of Pizza. I wish I had taken a picture of the salad. It was not worth the $5.99 they charged. It had a pathetic layer of limp brown spring mix and cabbage (it was mostly purple cabbage), 4 slices of tomato and a layer of mozzarella cheese. It was almost as if they were covering up the vegetables with the cheese. I reported this to the waitress when she brought our slices. She didn't really say much. It took forever to get the checks and she brought me a check without the salad on it. Literally just placed the check on the table and said nothing. A manager didn't even come to speak to us. Usually that happens when something is taken off of a check but nope didn't happen. The worst was that she only took my salad off of the bill and didn't even bother to take off my coworkers salad. Very disappointed. Al needs to go back to his roots and check on his pizza restaurants before he decides to venture into other restaurants, which aren't that great either. read more
