I had a flood in my home from a burst pipe. I found Altec Construction online and requested a quote. Jeff was the adjuster that came out to my home. He was so busy all the time with his other cases and would often forget what was going on with mine. He promised a lot, but did not follow through. Then when it came to the reconstruction to be done Altec tried to get out of replacing the floor boards even though it was on the estimate. I had to bring it up to the foreman Shawn's attention. He asked if it was on the estimate? The previous floor boards being replaced were stained, so I wanted them the same. Instead Shawn tried to talk me into having them painted. The workers were not even happy about staining them and did a substandard job. If you are going to do the job, make sure you have someone knowledgeable to do the work. At the end of the claim there were a lot of things on the estimate that were never done, yet the insurance was being charged for them. Like removing furniture from the home, yet they never provided the service. Over $3,000 dollars worth of overage on the estimate. Which also took weeks to resolve with them. I'm glad I made sure to go over my estimate carefully. I would personally not recommend this company. read more

We recently replaced a built-in microwave. The new unit was the exact width but slightly shorter in height than the previous unit, creating a 2-inch gap above the microwave. I contacted Altec Design & Construction to see if they could fabricate a maple trim piece to match the existing kitchen cabinets and fill the gap. Bruno came to my house with a sample piece of maple trim to match the color of the existing microwave cabinet. He took measurements and listened to me describe the desired appearance of the finished trim piece. About 10 days later later he returned with a piece of maple trim that matched the existing cabinet and installed the trim. Beautiful job! His price? ...just one hour of shop labor. Our laundry room flooded resulting in days of drying and then a new ceiling in the garage, new cabinets, new counter and new sink. Shawn Dalton worked tirelessly to make sure I was satisfied. The cabinets were matched (difficult to do as they were custom), the laminate counter was replaced with quartz, and the old sink was replaced. My favorite item is the laundry room sink, it's deep enough to wash the dog, comes with scrubbing sides, a rack, and a shallow tub. It's really unique and suits our needs perfectly. Every time I use it I think, "I really need to show my appreciation for all of their efforts!" Got the estimate, was decent. Submitted to insurance, got approved, and called to schedule. Got a call back saying never mind. Estimate was too low and not worth their time so they changed their mind. Now I'm screwed with no contractor and my insurance company thinking I'm trying to pull a fast one. I got 4 bids and went with Altec because I could tell that Brent was good at design and really cared about each job. As Brent explained what he did, talked about previous jobs, and shared design concepts with me, I could sense his humble pride and enthusiasm. Altec Construction was absolutely the right choice. Brent went above and beyond in handling EVERYTHING to do with the rebuild. I now live 2.5 hours away from the property and have a young toddler (then 1 yr old), and driving all that way to pick out things in a house I wasn't going to live in again didn't interest me at all. On the other hand, I still wanted the place to be nice! With *today's technology and my trust in Brent, I didn't have to drive out there much at all! I picked out the kitchen appliances and one chandelier, but Brent chose everything else. And he send me *iPhone pictures throughout the process. I felt as informed as I wanted to be and completely in the care of Brent Dorey and his staff. His company is smaller than others I considered and I think that was to my benefit - I was a big fish in a small pond rather than a small fish in a big pond. The guys at the larger companies had no spark or enthusiasm about their work. Brent was excited to make my place better than it was. And he went to bat for me more than once with my insurance. By the end of the job, I wished I could move back into the house. It's now SO awesome! By the way I used Brent on another smaller job after that at a 2nd rental and it was handled great too. Altec replaced my front door after the firemen kicked in my door thinking my house might be on fire. They were able to get the door that we wanted within the amount the insurance company was forking over for the replacement. The installers were professional and courteous. They were also on time. Everything looks great and works well. I gave them an old key to set the locks and had to have them come out again to readjust the locks for a better key. We used Altec for a fire damage restoration. They did not stick to their original time line, the materials and craftsmanship was sub-par. We had to contact them regarding multiple areas of concern (pain color, completion, fence, drywall). The most troubling of the whole ordeal was when we came home and found the stucco contractor in our backyard-- that had a locked gate. He jumped the fence-- we have dogs -- completely unprofessional. We still have work that was never completed and just wrote them a check as we were tired of waiting. They were not recommended by our insurance company, and I know why now. read more

We are extremely pleased with Altec Construction for the master bathroom remodel that they completed in November 2021. The new bathroom is beautiful and so much better than what we had before. We enjoyed working with Alex and all Altec Construction staff during the entire bathroom remodel process. The estimator provided a detailed itemization of costs for materials, labor and profit which made it easy for us to determine the reasonableness of the final cost estimate. The workers were all professional, courteous and considerate in performing work during the COVID pandemic. We were able to select and purchase some items ourselves such as sinks, faucets, shower fixture, ceiling exhaust fan with lights, and a wall-mounted folding shower seat. Everything has worked perfectly, but one of the screws that held the shower seat became loose recently. However, Altec Construction fixed the problem within days of my contact with a heavy-duty anchor for the screw so that the seat is solidly attached to the wall. My Mother-In-Law had just arrived the night before. I jumped out of bed and put a load of laundry in our GE clothes washer, then jumped in the shower. By the time I got out there was an inch and a half of water on the floor upstairs and the ceiling was leaking in the library downstairs. After Restoration Management had demolished our library and a good chunk of the second floor, I felt like Tom Hanks in the Money Pit. Fortunately, the guest room where she was staying, the Master bedroom and the kitchen were all still livable. My insurance company recommended Altec Construction, Inc. They told me I could use whoever I wanted, or do it myself. But my adjuster liked Altec because he doesn't get complaints later. I wanted my house back the way it was as soon as possible, and I didn't have the skill to match texturizer. So I took the advice, and I'm so glad I did. Our foreman, Calvin, did his best to work with our schedule and get the work done as quick as possible. Most important, it's as if nothing ever happened. He made things better than they were before the flood. After they said they were done there was only one small patch were the texturizer had sagged. He came out and fixed it himself, and it's perfect now. Even though I was only responsible for my deductible, I still asked how much things cost. I found them to be very competitive with other quotes I'd got. But even if they were more, the quality of work would be worth it. If we ever decide to remodel, especially if it's beyond my abilities, I'll be using Altec. read more

My husband and I needed two sets of French doors replaced after damage to our house that happened after we bought but before we moved in (from another geographic area). Our insurance company sent out an estimator. We asked her for contractor recommendations. When we called, one contractor said they only did much larger repair jobs than ours. The other company was Altec. Their estimate was very close to the insurance company's. We weren't very familiar with contractors in this area. We only later discovered that the Sacramento area has a number of companies who specialize in door sales, customization, and installation. In retrospect, we should have just hired one of them. Altec eventually did a good job, but they took about ten months to install the doors. We signed the contract with them in October 2016 and they finished in July 2017. Their contract with us specified the new doors had to be of like kind and quality to the originals. Their process was to order the doors from Simpson Door, have them customized by some local door company or their own door shop (we were never sure which), and then Altec would install them. First they measured but left the original doors in place for some months. Then they took the doors away to match the size of the panes, etc., (even though they had previously measured all that). They put up HUD quality boarding, which was in place for some months. Then, eventually, Altec took out the boarding and installed the new doors. Simpson seems to make good, sturdy doors. And we had no issue with the sizes of the panes. However, the doors had been ordered with prepainted, bright white metal astragals (the flat piece that goes down the middle of a pair of French doors to close the gap). This was not "like kind and quality" because the original astragals were wood, which can be painted any color, and the (wood) French doors themselves were not white. The contrast was glaring and ugly. Our request to fix this issue initiated months of what we felt was just running us around. Altec tried very hard to make us accept the doors as is. First Altec asserted we did not specify in the contract what kind of astragals we wanted. We pointed out that was covered by their guarantee of like kind and quality; the original astragals were wood. Altec went back and forth about whether the metal astragals could be painted, but even when they claimed they could, they said they could not match our paint colors. We asked for the astragals to be replaced with wood ones that could clearly be painted and which also looked more like the original doors. Altec said it could not be done, they just had no idea where to get wood astragals. We called Simpson Door and provided the part number we found on the doors. Simpson said they absolutely sold wooden astragals for that door model, and would be happy to sell them to our contractor, but it was not their procedure to sell direct to homeowners. We gave this information to Altec. Altec then showed up with an astragal of the wrong type for our doors (we'd been doing research) and about two feet too long, and made a big demonstration of how it did not fit our doors. Finally, after at least four months and lots of go-rounds, Altec did install wood astragals that actually fit and looked like the originals. The installation took far less time than Altec's many visits to the house just to assert they could not locate, make, or install wood astragals. They just peeled the metal astragals right off--which only took a few minutes per door and caused no damage--and put on the new ones. We had the same go-round with the brass weather stripping, which Altec put on one set of doors but not the other. Then they asserted they couldn't find brass weather stripping anywhere (after they'd already put it on one set of doors). We had to go to a local door shop, who showed us a catalog and gave us the name of the vendor and the part number, which we gave to Altec. So yes, eventually Altec installed the weather stripping as well. Ultimately Altec did a good job and their final price accorded with their estimate. But they were very slow and hard to work with. read more

The team of workers who ALTEC Richard Young sent to work on a floor removal and replacement was excellent. The floor demolition team sent was Clyde Patterson and Dustin Mollard who removed the tile from our family/kitchen 'great room'. It was then that they found the subfloor had been deteriorated by powder-post beetles. This made the floor removal a lot harder, as the subfloor broke into small fragments, which was a dirty and very time-consuming work. Without complaint, they really 'dug in', removing all of the bad wood, re-enforced all the exposed joists, and installed the new sub-floor. These guys were dependable, conscientious, and very hard working. A previous company (3 years ago), had put down 'moisture barrier' plastic, which was all wrinkled and full of debris. Without hesitation, they removed all of that, and replaced with a properly layed moisture barrier. A leaky dishwasher caused a mold problem that could have destroyed my kitchen. After the kitchen sink was disassembled and the mold was cleared, Altec came in and rebuilt my destroyed cabinet, installed my new dishwasher and reconnected the kitchen plumbing. altec construction reconstructed our home after it was gutted by fire in 2010 two years after completion, there were some issues with peeling paint, a poor quality interior door and other small issues i was surprised to learn that brent dory had left the company, but richard, the current owner was very accommodating all repairs were fixed without a problem or charge fast forward to the current time 4 years after completion we are selling our home after the passing of our son and was surprised to learn after an inspection that plumbing was leaking under the house richard came back out fixed everything the inspectors found which included a light cover in the closet and inspected a loose toilet. come to find out the plumbing leak was caused by rats chewing through a coupling but could find nothing wrong with the toilet however the inspector pushed on it with his knee and it moved so he called it loose i personally think most toilets will move when pushed on like this richard came out another time and reset and recaulked the toilet so it would pass inspection 4 years after completion date! my hat goes off to richard and altec construction, a business that truly stands behind it's work! read more
