I've been an Alterations Express customer for many years, which made my recent experience at the Strongsville location especially disappointing. The manager/seamstress, was dismissive from the start. Instead of offering her professional opinion on hemming my dress, she simply told me to decide how short I wanted it, without examining the garment or providing any guidance. I basically should have pinned the garment on my own because she was worthless. When I got to the counter, she handed me a waiver. When I politely asked why I needed to sign a formal gown waiver for a jersey knit dress, she responded, "I'm the manager, and you sign it or I I can refuse to do your alterations,". When I continued to ask why this was considered a formal gown, she started removing the pins to say she wasn't doing the work. Scary she is a manager. When I asked who I could contact to share my concerns, she told me to "do my own research and figure it out." That response was unprofessional and completely inconsistent with the service I've received from Alterations Express over the years. I contacted the corporate office and hope the company addresses this hostile employee. no customer should ever be treated that way. read more

Absolutely the worst service; exceptionally rude woman named Susanna. Took 4 dresses in. Had them premarked for exactly how I wanted them hemmed. She said I had to try on every one. I told her they were already marked, just hem them. She said "we get sued and we have to pay for people's garments here all of the time." I asked if I could go in the back and speak with a tailor as I had been a long time customer. There used to be 3 or 4 of them in the back all of the time. She said they do not have any tailors there. I again said, all I wanted was them hemmed; they were very expensive dresses. She said, very sarcastically, "these are expensive?" Then she said that she did not think they could do that. I again stated that it was just a hem. Then she said "OK, $100 apiece" as if she expected me to say no. I said that was fine; they dresses were worth between $1500 to $2000 each. Then she said "I can't do them." and turned around and walked away while I was standing at the counter. I have never been treated so rudely and dismissively. It used to be one of the best places years ago. You could talk with the tailors and explain exactly what you needed. I am a developer in the city; I will be sure to tell everyone how I was treated by this Susanna. No one will go here again. I cannot believe she even has a job there; this company needs to fire her. read more

I brought a brand-new, never worn dress with tickets still on to Alterations Express to have bra pads sewn in. Unfortunately, the alteration stretched the fabric and caused the top and sides of the dress to gap when they hadn't before. I returned to have the pads removed less than 24 hours later because I was I was unhappy with the result. I tried the dress on and they agreed that the dress no longer looked right. They removed the pads. I requested a refund since the alteration did not turn out as expected and they took back the pads back. They told me they could not without the manager. I was then told the manager would call me. I waited 4 days and was never called. I called the store and they told me they would not issue a refund and I would have to come back again, even know the other employees already saw the dress and the outcome. I also had the customer receipt as well. I understand that alterations can sometimes have unexpected results, but I was disappointed by the both the outcome of the dress and the lack of follow-up. As well as the tone of the manager I expected better service. read more

I have been going to Alterations Express for years with great experiences- as someone who is 5'2, I am constantly getting things hemmed. However, I am now a forever customer and advocate after my experience here with my wedding dress this summer. After being literally laughed at by multiple bridal alteration shops in the Cleveland area for the timeframe I needed my dress (2 months-which, yes, I realize IS a tight timeframe) Alterations Express in Strongsville, and specifically Suhad, came to the rescue and got it done in just a few weeks. Suhad was incredible, she made me feel totally confident throughout the entire process and made my wedding dress, which was my favorite dress I've ever seen- into my favorite dress I've ever worn. It was complicated, intricate lace detail, fringe and tassels- but I knew Suhad had it more than covered. She is a true professional who seems to genuinely loves what she does, and imparts that confidence and trust into her bridal customers. Terrible!!! The cups that were sewn into my dress were lopsided after being fitted. They did not use a measuring tape to fit either. Shame on them for not refunding $20 for cups I asked them to take out! Their prices are ridiculously high! NEVER AGAIN!! read more

Wow this place is expensive and the service is not good. I went to drop off my daughters jacket to get patches sewed on and the girl at the register said she would help but then just took the jacket and looked at it and didn't tell me what the heck she was doing because I was waiting there and I guess she was calling someone else over for something. Some people don't understand the art of communicating ‍ THE SAME girl then started helping someone else and still didn't tell me what was happening and I felt DUMBFOUNDED about what was going on. Like hello? You were helping me and now you went off to help someone else. AGAIN, she hasn't said anything else and finally a woman came from the back and then gave me a quote and told me it would be done on Thursday ( a week later). So Thursday passed and I didn't hear from them. I called the business on Friday (a day after their anticipated date of completion) and they told me the jacket was done. What is happening at this business? You guys need to do better. And again, it was expensive and the stitches aren't even on the back of the jacket. I brought 3 pairs of jeans in to be altered just to pay $90 and wait 6 days for them to give me back jeans with crooked stitching, the color stitching did not match as well! I bought my wedding dress from David's Bridal, but specifically wanted to have it altered by Suhad at Alterations Express. Suhad is the nicest, most patient, wonderful human. She explains everything, gives great advice, and has a ton of insight to offer. Thanks to Suhad, I absolutely love my wedding dress (I liked it before I bought it, but **LOVE** it now that Suhad is done with it!!!). I just needed a little expertise. I would absolutely recommend this location for bridal gowns as well as bridesmaid's gowns-- my future stepdaughter had her dress hemmed here as well. I brought in a dress to have hemmed for an event I have coming up. Before bringing in my dress it was in great condition, I had just bought it the previous day and had not worn it yet. When I brought in my dress to get altered there was nothing wrong with it, but when I picked it up the top of the dress was pilled and the material was pulled. When I expressed this issue to the people at the desk they told me it wasn't their fault and refused to take responsibility. After a while of back and forth, and the manager and the receptionist being extremely rude they said the best they could do is offer me half off. Never coming back here again. read more

I had a great experience with Alterations Express back in 2012 for prom. My prom dress was flawlessly altered. Because of this wonderful experience I decided to go back and have my bridesmaids dress altered here as well. This was a mistake. It cost $175 to simply hem the dress. On top of that, the customer service was awful. The seamstress did not converse with me during the consultation, ask my opinion, or anything of that nature. Furthermore, upon picking the dress up she did not ask me to try it on to see if the alterations were satisfactory. I'm very disappointed with the service I was provided and it was not worth $175. I will not be returning or recommending this place to anyone and will be using a private seamstresses in the future and recommend you do the same. read more

I've been a customer for several years but recently I started receiving other people's items when picking up my dry cleaning or tailored items. After my last pick up, I realized when I got home my suit was missing. When I looked at the tag it clearly stated their were 4 items. The suit item was circled and a note was written on the tag stating "Alteration first, will be sent later". Stephanie the store manager acted surprised that something could be lost and continued to stress that their process was flawless. That's clearly not the case as I have received other peoples items in the past. After claiming their is nothing she could do (as the store manager) I requested to speak with her manager. Her manager sits at the corporate office and has yet to return a call after two weeks. At this point, I want to make others aware that you may not get back what you take into the store and they clearly can care less about the customer. read more

I brought a suit in here for alterations. I called ahead of time and the person who picked up the phone was very courteous in explaining everything. When I went into the shop, an employee measured me for the alterations that would be needed because my suit was too loose in certain areas. 5 days later, my suit was ready and looking good! She looked at me and rudely said "I can't tell you anything because you don't have it with you." Stopped in to find out about having two panels of curtains/sheers hemmed. Although the clerk was pleasant she told me that they were too busy at this time of year to do them and I should come back in the fall or winter. Really? You're a business! I could understand that they couldn't do them immediately (while I waited) but don't understand why I could not leave them to pick up later (week or so). I then asked what the cost would be and after hearing the cost I definitely will not be returning in the fall, winter, or probably ever.
