I've been here many times, both for breakfast and for lunch. They're good is always consistent and fresh. This time is ordered the open chicken souvlaki. Portions are always large and this was no exception. I actually took some home and had dinner. Chicken was nicely seasoned and salad was great. The last time I was there, I ordered a souvlaki breakfast I've worked in Greek restaurants they did not have peppers and onions on the skewer like I remembered which wasn't that long ago. I asked the server why she said we don't serve it that way anymore you're talking to green peppers and two pieces of onion not a whole lot of money makes a big difference when you're eating a 15 or $16 breakfast! I asked the server for some peppers she said I have to charge you I said OK I got a bowl full of greasy nasty peppers that were terrible. It cost me 40 something dollars for two breakfast with just 2 cups of coffee that was with the tip. Definitely probably won't go back. read more

We were in the area and stopped in for a couple fish frys and burgers . The place is big and had ample seating. Before I get to the food let me say the service waa very good .Our server Chelsea was top notch . However the food was NOT top notch. Let us start with the fish frys . The fish was fine but small and the coating was not beer battered like expected and rather light in color definitely like a fish fry one might get our of a box or old folks home. The sides were fries which were room temp , mac salad was tasty but not cold and coleslaw tasted ok and was cold . No lemon on the plate and the tartar sauce had a "skin " on it like it had been sitting out for a while . The burgers were bland and just " eh" . We would bot go back. One word for this place: Super Delicious! We were in the mood for chicken Slouvaki (spelling?) . . So we stopped here. I was a bit surprised by the price - $16 for a dinner ..... but it was a ton of food and delicious. We got the traditional pita bread and potato with it (we chose fries) . We also ordered Buffalo Chicken Wing dip for an appetizer. It was probably the best chicken wing dip I ever had. It came with tortilla chips, and when we ran out our waitress gladly brought us more. Our waitress was decked out in an adorable holiday outfit and sparkly snowflake jewelry. Overall , I enjoyed the dinner. Total for 2 Slouvaki's (spelling?) Plus an appetizer and 1 Pepsi was $48 with tip $58. Seems a bit high to me. I feel we could have went for 2 steak dinners for that price. But it didn't matter . This is a great find. Honestly, the best chicken souvlaki I have ever eaten, and great value for the money. I stopped in for supper on a Tuesday, and my server (the delightful and attentive Maria) was quick to recommend the souvlaki platter, either in lamb or chicken. I didn't have to wait long to find out why - the place was 3/4 full, but still my meal came out very quickly. The portion is generous, accompanied by a large salad and pita. The homemade salad dressing is excellent, and it lives on the table so you can choose how heavily you want to douse your salad. The chicken was perfectly cooked - tender and juicy, and delivered delicious Greek flavor without overpowering. The desert menu looked very tempting, but by the time I had finished my meal, I was entirely too well satiated to try anything more. This is one of those reviews that needs to start with a disclaimer that this is not a "4 star restaurant" but does deserve 4 stars for how well it does what it does. So, Alton's is your typical owned-by-a-Greek-family-diner, where you can get breakfast AND souvlaki at all hours of the day. I've had countless omelettes and crowded salad plates from Alton's over the years and I've had no complaints. On my most recent visit, I inquired if an item I was thinking about was gluten free, and the waitress immediately handed me a full gluten-free menu! This was awesome because it made ordering much less stressful. I was happy to see that most of their potato-based sides were GF. The other nice thing was that they carry GF bread, so you can get french toast, sandwiches, etc if gluten is your only worry - and they put all the "safe" sandwiches on that menu so you don't have to stress about the insides. The price is just right for a quick dinner or a hearty breakfast, and even if there's a wait, tables move fast. But don't expect white tablecloth service - these ladies are trained to get your food to your table and keep your coffee hot until it's time to let the next table sit down! read more

I can't even begin to count the number of times I've been to Alton's. It's as much a dining out default as Denny's. My husband is all about breakfast-food-anytime and I have to say, Alton's delivers some pretty tasty breakfast food. I will say their Friday Fish Fry is my favorite in the Buffalo area. The fish is fresh, the tarter sauce is awesome (I don't even like tarter sauce), the pasta salad is out of this world, the cole slaw is edible (I also don't really like cole slaw), and I love their mashed potatoes that I order with this meal (no gravy, they actually don't need it). My husband and I can easily split 1 dinner, but we'll each order a cup of soup because Alton's also has the best soup in the Buffalo area. You all know it! Like I said, their breakfast is good, but their vegetarian options (which are somewhat plentiful) aren't as tasty. I wish they could step it up there so not everything vegetarian is bell peppers or difficult-to-eat greasy entrees. But whatever, I can deal. Plus their Specials trade out and sometimes there's a gem on there. Even if their vegetarian options don't wow me, Alton's is still a favorite. It's off the highway and open 24 hours so the hubs and I have definitely stopped in at 10:30 or 11 on a Sunday when getting back from a weekend trip for some good eats, or killed some time sipping on coffee and hot chocolate before needing to be at the airport/picking up from the airport at 2 in the morning. Most of the servers recognize me and my husband and since we're relatively low maintenance customers we get great service, which always translates to good tips, and the circle of service continues (seriously peeps, if you dine somewhere frequently consistent 20% tips (more if you split a meal) do wonders). Sometimes it sucks when a new face gets us because the place is usually busy and hectic, but it's not a game-ender. All-in-all, I'm a fan! Alton's is definitely a win. read more

On the heels of a fast-paced - I couldn't decide where to dine - SOUP RUN, much akin to a Bar Hop or Pub Crawl, but with soup - I settled in to an open faced chicken souvlaki style special called Anita Pita. It had fresh vegetables and Greek feta with juicy grilled chicken atop warm, fresh pita bread. My cucumber-dill sauce (on the side) added just the right garden flavors to the dish. Bottomless cups of hot coffee accompanied my dessert which was home made rice pudding topped with whipped cream and cinnamon. We walked in and they were packed - and yet the wait was only a few minutes. The service was prompt and efficient. Our waitress was polite. The restaurant was also quite clean for the amount of people going in and out. It was a busy Saturday morning and prime time. Prices were great and the food was very good. I ordered a basic bacon and cheese omelet with hash browns, and couldn't have been happier. They didn't skimp on the bacon either. Plenty for the dish. We came here trying to kill time while my car was getting worked on. This place was recommended by my partners friend that comes here to this restaurant when they are in the area. We are all from the south town area and don't get much near the Galleria Mall often, but when we do, we try our best to visit Alton's for their famous Chicken Souvlaki. We get there and the restaurant is pretty busy. A lot of people are there dining in and having a great time. We asked the server what is popular here and they suggested the Chicken Souvlaki. So we get two chickens and the other half gets a Beef Souvlaki. When the chicken came out, which was fairly fast I might add, it was very juicy and tasty. I had a bite of the partners beef and it was very moist and Delicious also. One thing I didn't like was the oil dressing that was on the table needed more dressing it self. More dressing, less oil. Over all, I like the restaurant and will be coming back to try beef. read more

After seeing the wait at Campfire Grill about a mile down the road we ended up here at Alton's today not to be disappointed. Had the corn beef hash with over easy eggs and rye toast. Eggs were done to perfection, soft yolk but not runny, corned beef hash was on point not greasy at all and the rye toast crunchy and soft just the way it should be. My coffee never reached below half empty, or half full whichever way you would like to look at it but it was always filled and fresh. This is another place I've been going to since I was a little baby. I practically grew up here! While we don't really go as often as we used to, I still enjoy taking a quick trip to Alton's for breakfast. Usually I end up ordering an omelet, but every now and then I mix it up; whatever I end up ordering is usually delicious either way. I'd say for sure this is an excellent place to bring a group of people (on more than one occasion we've seen large parties sitting down for a meal, be it breakfast, lunch, or dinner). Went with my friend because we needed an inexpensive place near the mall and Reinstein. We were considering the soup and our waitress told us not to go with the Tuscan chicken because it "looked different than it should". Concerning... but thanks for the heads up I guess? Decided on crocks of French onion and sharing chicken souvlaki. Soup was nearly inedible it was so salty. Neither of us finished it and wished we had been advised against that instead. The breakfast is a solid breakfast menu. The Omelet was big enough to share. We also got a Belgium waffle which was crispy and well done. We also got two coffee and our bill was only $23. There's a lot of seating so there is a short wait time (if any) and a bar you can sit at any time if there's any openings. I'd also suggest they're rice pudding. If Denny's were Greek you'd have Alton's. Clean, friendly, and bustling 24 hr Resturant. We came for breakfast and were attended to right away despite being busy. The menu is American and Greek and seems to be very popular. We ordered sausage and cheese omelet with home fries and onions as an option. Very accommodating. Also, did I say friendly? I'm thinking I would have experienced the souvlaki and eggs or even the feta and gyro meat omelette. I'm feeling like I didn't get the good Greek experience, so I added the homemade Greek oil dressing on the table to one end of the plate and tried a fork full on my omelette and OMG! It was great. My new go to sauce on eggs! Filled us up in less than $20! Very memorable experience. It's hard to give a perfect rating on a small sampling of the menu, but Good memories are worth an extra star on top of four for the meal, service, value and facility. That's five out of five! Accept no substitutions, Alton's is king when it comes to greek food! I've been living in a hotel near the airport, so until recently I've been eating greek food from the greek place closest to the airport. You know the one, it starts with an O. The servers are really nice and they make good rice pudding, so I don't want to put them down too much BUT... Alton's kicks their ass in terms of greek food take out! I ordered a chicken pita wrap, it came with fries, dill dip and a pickle. It. was. DELICIOUS! Everything was perfect about it, there was a generous amount of chicken and feta, the lettuce and tomatoes were ripe, the red onion was a nice touch. The fries were excellent and the pickle was good too. It was just perfect, like the best take out meal I have eaten in the two months I have been living in a hotel and living on take out food. Thankfully, my house will be ready to close on next week and I can end my hobo lifestyle. I got some rice pudding for dessert, haven't tried it yet but I imagine it's fine. I really don't feel like calling. But yeah if i was over charged so be it. My food was 12 my dads was 7. Plus a orange Juice and coffee. Still a side of bacon shouldn't cost that much. For a couple bucks more i could buy a pound at the store. And I was lucky if i had 2.5 oz of corned beef on my plate. Definitely wasn't worth 9 dollars. I can get eggs bacon sausage Ham pancakes toast and potatoes for 10$ at dennys. Which I should of went to in the first place. Your portions don't reflect the Price. I cook for a living i know how much a case of bacon costs...i how much a number #10 can of corned beef hash costs. And if you're charging that much you should have the money to fix the seats in the booths. I have sat on wooden benches that are more comfortable. They just sink to the floor. read more

I thought I left a review here previously but apparently not. I don't understand how this place is still in business. For such a heralded place it was entirely disappointing on multiple visits. One trip, I ordered the roast beef sandwich, and it was OK but absolutly nothing special. The fries wer cold and soggy and the whole meal was as well. And it wasn't even a matter of timing, my party had salads and the other person had the same thing. Said the same, cold and tasteless. More over, the waitress was very short and unfriendly. She was not rude but she was very cold and abrupt and she did not refill drinks or coffee once. We even had to ask her to refill our drinks when she came by with the food. On the most recent trip, I had a plate of their "special" for the day which was homemade Goulash. It was again, cold, and bland. It was so cold the shredded cheese on top was not even melted. That's how cold the dish was. The best part of the meal was the bread, honestly. Also, something was wrong with the soft drinks as they tasted like sewer water. When the waitress came back I dumped my guests soda into mine and tried to get a refill for her and a water for me hoping maybe whatever was wrong might have just been a temporary thing. Nope! We both drank the water. Also, we again, got a different waitress. She looked to have been there since the place opened, honestly. She was very... let's say, unlively. She even sighed aloud heavily when my guest asked for gravy with her fries. All in all, I don't know what all the hubbub is about, and don't get how this lackluster place is supposed to be a staple of the area. There's also a strange step in the restaurant. On our first trip, nobody even mentioned this and one in our party almost tripped. The second time, one of the waitresses actually tripped on it. How is that not a safety concern?? Leads me to believe this place isn't inspected, or the owner is in good with the inspectors... Either way, I believe I have been here 3-4 times and had similar results each time. Alton's has great food, great prices, and great service. I gave it a 4 because the state of their parking lot -- it's like your playing Mario Kart when you're in it, dodging potholes left and right. Also, the last time I was there, it started to rain like crazy and what I thought was a mini puddle, ended up being a mini lake, and next thing I know "my donkey fell in your waffle hole." (If you haven't seen Shrek 4, apologies.) We go to Alton's when we're not really sure what we want, because they have a lot of different items to choose from. They serve Pepsi products, and you know how I feel about my Pepsi! They renovated since the last time I was there, and I thought it looked great inside. There was only one other thing that made my experience kind of, meh. We were seated in one of the booths near the bathrooms, and all I could smell was restaurant restroom air freshener. So, just keep your eyes peeled for all the holes in the parking lot, request a table or booth away from the loo, and you'll have a great time! read more
