I was truly pleasantly surprised by the Amarit Thai restaurant. Inside the place is small, but richly appointed in reds and golds, the tables are comfortable and neatly spaced. At 7:30 on Thursday, it was not terribly busy, so the meal was paced appropriately, nothing was rushed. They do not have a huge or complex menu like some other places. A sheet with specials and then a simple menu, deconstructed with the meats and offerings. We got our usual starters, for me that is Chicken Satay, the husbeast likes his Shrimp Tam Ka soup and of course fresh spring rolls. Dinner itself was pork with broccoli and cashew for me done in mild and for the husbeast he got one of the sizzling shrimp plates done Thai hot. Everything was super fresh, and I must note that the spring rolls were filled with layer and layer of lettuce vs others that are done with rice noodles and just a touch of lettuce. They were tasty but not what I was expecting. The Satay was tasty and done just right, and the husbeast said that while he'd asked for Thai Hot, it was more American Hot, and while that's ok for some, he prefers to cry when he eats his food. *grin* Over all, I'd come back as I found it tasty and clean. read more

Excellent food at reasonable prices. Decided to try a new restaurant while my son was in town. This had been on my radar for some time. Located in a strip mall near Oldsmar, parking is in a shared lot. The restaurant itself is very cozy and decorated tastefully. They have a sushi chef onsite. I ordered pad see ew with pork and my son ordered Masman Curry with shrimp and chicken. Both were very tasty with a nice presentation. We also ordered spring rolls which also were very good! I was very pleased with our meals and felt the prices were fair for the portion sizes. Our bill came out to under $45 with the appetizer, 2 entrees and a soda. I stumbled upon this restaurant on a whim. I had a doctors appointment next to the restaurant's plaza. I searched for places next to me and this was the first restaurant that came up. I called and got my lunch to go...it was ready in 10 mins. I ordered the shrimp and chicken pad Thai. It was delicious. I added some Thai chili sauce at home because it didn't have much spice. I didn't ask if you could make it spicer when I ordered it..I imagine they can make spicier if you requested it. The pad thai came with a mini egg roll and a cup of chicken and rice soup. Both the appetizers were very good as well. I paid just under $13 for my lunch. It was worth the price because it came with the egg roll and soup. Upon entry, the ambience, aromas, and cultural tasteful Thai decor was very enticing so of course i was optimistic but it ended there. Not like a rolling stop sign, not a brief yield but a red full fledged stop. Even if was a shithole, i don't care! i Am ALL about the food so no extra star for the environment BECAUSE the food was awful. This isn't Thai. Not even close. A watered down version to please its local demographic. No authentic flavor. The quAlity tasted cheap. Basil sauté and garlic entree are not supposed to be swimming in disgusting gravy sauce mimicking american gravy with perhaps some soy sauce added. The tom yum soup was without lemongrass and watered down to make up for volume to justify their cost for it. Now again, i love food so if its good, you should be charged accordingly for the quality BUT NOT HERE. Meat quality was that of a fast food place , the rice over cooked and soggy. In other words, food made for american taste buds and Americans who don't like any heat. An insult for those of us who truly enjoy Thai food with true Thai spices. I always get Thai fried rice the first time I go to every Thai restaurant but theirs has lump of rice- which means the fried rice overall is very plain. All the veggies- the onions in it are in huge chunks, again no flavor. The frog legs were def over fried.. I wonder if it's because it's not very fresh.. Good portion sizes for the price and very friendly service. We actually found this place on accident because we were looking for a place to take our friends out ( the original place was closed even though the website said otherwise) Amarit was the closest nearby so I called first and they said even though they close in 45, we could come in. They were so nice to us, didn't try to rush us at all. Bonus- if you have dietary restrictions they were super great and had no issue making modifications. The only thing better than their food is their service. I feel like A'marit Thai is family to me. I started going her in high school when a friend told me their Thai place is better than any I've ever been to. He was right! They have excellent service. My drink is never half empty. They always offer advice, but always remember my distinct order if I'm in the dinning room or ordering take-out. In 2009 I moved away to North Carolina, and I couldn't find a single Thai place... I tried to make Panang, it didn't come out close to theirs. But they mailed me lime leaves to help try to make it like theirs. They are too sweet! All of the curries are amazing, the pad Thai is delicious, and the crab Rangoons are unique and flavorful (not your typical crab Rangoons, but different in the best way). One of my favorite restaurants! Keep thinking I'm going to move out of Florida but don't think I'll find a restaurant I'll love this much again! I've been going here for about 8 years, on the recommendation from my mother who worked nearby at the time. The food is delicious, fresh, and full of flavor. It has more vegetables and sauce than traditional Thai food but the staff will make it more traditionally Thai if you ask. The staff is very friendly and they work very hard. I thank my ex boss for taking me to Amarit each time I eat there, it's so good! My whole office would order lunch and we would take turns on who would make the 15 minute trip there to get it and it's totally worth it. Lunch and dinner are a little different, and I have to say the lunch is the best value because you get the AMAZING veggie egg rolls and soup with it. At dinner everything is separate. When I say the veggie egg rolls are amazing, I truly mean it. I could make a meal of just those. I crave them! They are not your traditional egg rolls either, which is probably why they are awesome. Trust me, just order them if it's dinner time, they come with lunch. The Pad Thai is wonderful, I always get chicken and not one loving spicy, I get the mild. Brian once ordered the hot and even for him it was REALLY hot, so be warned, he now will order the medium. Much to our surprise and pleasure, tonight when we walked in we saw that they now have a sushi bar. We ordered the Monster Roll and holy crap, it's HUGE. In order for me to get the whole piece in my mouth, I had to take the toppings off, put the sushi on its side and then put the toppings back on the "new" top. Don't order it if you're on a date with someone you're not comfortable with!!! It was so good though, and why were we surprised?? Everything else there is a winner! Someone had an epiphany to add sushi bar in this Thai restaurant. It is a smart match. The core value of this family-run restaurant has always been its prime quality ingredients and excellent services. Every dish is freshly made with pride and professionalism. I am now hopelessly addicted to Amarit. Even though the price remain high, this newly added alternative keep regular patron like me going back on weekly bases. The sushi bar part is now run by the Shushi chef used to work at Ban Thai at Safety Harbor. His cut of fish is generously thick. It is not a traditional Japanese style that the cut has to be medium size to allow customer to put the whole piece in the mouth and chew it down gracefully. However, as I have soaked myself into the American culture for 1800 days later, Yankee style of hospitality has ensconced within my bias opinions. More is more, as simple as that. Their Thai food is wonderful (red curry and pad ke-mao are our favorites) and the sushi (holy cow the sushi!) is off the chain. I've been to a hundred different sushi restaurants and I've never seen larger portions of sashimi, plus the rolls are also generous in size as well.
