The service is great, food comes out quick, and the place is usually busy. The highlight is their sushi, there are many options and it's always fresh and delicious. They also have a great curry selection and tons of appetizers and other meal options. This round we had the fried tofu appetizer, green and panang curry, sushi, and miso soup. My wife chose the Cashew Chicken. My eldest daughter decided to sample everyone else's plates. Granddaughter, 21, went for Chicken Broccoli and Granddaughter, 13, selected the Ban Thai Chicken. Wanting to try something different I decided on the Amazing Eggplant. We enjoyed the accompanied small bowl of Chicken and Rice soup, hot and tasty. Also the appetizer Rolls came quickly and were eaten so quickly that I forgot to snap pics! Shortly our meals came and all were fantastic. Each dish was passed around and sampled by all. However, my eldest daughter and I both agreed that we have a new favorite - the Amazing Eggplant! Best we had ever had anywhere! I must admit she had more than a "taste" of my Eggplant. It will be hard not to choose it in future visits. And because we were celebrating a birthday, we asked for the dessert menu. I had dinner here some years ago and was delighted with the rich flavor of the Panang curry with shrimp and fragrant Jasmine rice. Not so this time. I had vegetable Panang curry this time which was served with undercooked, not-Jasmine rice. The vegetables were undercooked, to my taste, and the sauce was unpalatable. Ban Thai & Sushi Restaurant is located off McMullen Booth Road & Enterprise Road in the Safety Harbor district of Clearwater in Tampa Bay, in a Plaza next to Bone Fish Grill, Van Dough Mini Donuts, Einsteins Bagels, Outpost 611 Eatery, Vitoria Richard's Artisan Chocolates, Elizabeth's Gourmet Delights, and Burger Monger. We were determined to try a new Thai spot during lunch time on a Saturday but it was actually more difficult than you'd imagine. It turns out that most Thai spots are only open for dinner in our immediate area and Oishi Sushi & Thai management decided to stopped serving Thai food altogether due to covid even though it's in their name but we were glad that Ban Thai is one of the few spots open for lunch on a Saturday. The Shrimp & Chicken Pad Thai came with a large generous portion of Thai rice noodles, chicken, shrimp, egg, bean sprouts, scallions, ground peanuts and best of all, it came with plenty of savory sweet and spicy Thai sauce. The dish was ordered Thai hot and was pretty spicy and flavorful. 9/10 The Panang Chicken came with a large serving of coconut milk, Thai curry, chicken ground peanuts, bell peppers and zucchini in a large bowl. The Panang Chicken was ordered regular and was not too spicy and pretty sweet. 9/10 Both dishes came with: The Thai vegetable soup came with vegetables, scallions, and a touch of fried garlic. 7/10 The Vegetable egg roll came fried and stuffed with bean thread, cabbage, carrots, celery, and a sweet and sour sauce for dipping. 8/10 For dessert, we got complimentary white powder and sugar coated mini Thai donuts which were kinda missing a fruit or chocolate flavor to top it off so we saved it for later and put Nutella on it at home. 6/10 Ban Thai has beautiful traditional Thai style canopies that make cozy huts out of each booth in the restaurant. There was some really nice authentic gold Thai art all over the place and traditional Thai music playing that created a traditional exotic experience that I can highly recommend. My only complaint is that because of covid, Ban Thai is no longer carrying my favorite traditional sweet & spicy Thai Chili Garlic sauce even by request although most Thai restaurants do carry it and Ban Thai used to carry it before covid as I saw it on a picture posted to yelp. If you are getting to go, make sure to get your own Thai Chili Garlic sauce. I really hope management can restock this Thai Chili Garlic sauce as it one of my favorites and essential staple of any good Thai restaurant. The bestie and I came for a late dinner (probably around 8:00) and the wait staff were just kind of sitting around chatting. There were maybe 2 or 3 tables with patrons. Eventually a young man asked (without walking up to me) if he could help me...so here we are having a conversation across the restaurant. I asked for a table for two and some waters while I waited for my bestie to arrive. He sat me down and brought me one water. Then he disappeared. No one came back over until well after my other party arrived...when it was my intention to have drinks and apps waiting for her upon arrival. Needless to say, I ordered drunken noodles with medium heat and boy was I impressed. The flavor was excellent and every fifth bite or so was spicy enough to make my nose run. Good stuff. The seaweed salad portion is enormous. Not many alcoholic beverage choices but I'm always happy with a plum wine. The "special sangria" wasn't very special. There was a strawberry in it but it pretty much tasted like juice. I would definitely eat here again but I'd probably order take out to avoid the crappy service. read more

The coconut soup with chicken was good however most tom kha based soup has basil and mushrooms instead of onions which was where I thought was weird. Lemongrass is definitely correct. I really didn't like the seafood mussels in gravy and vegetables. I thought the taste of the mussels was too overpowered using a beef like gravy. The main entre which I ordered was red curry in beef and it was authentic and delicious. They even asked how spicy you want it and I went for a little tad spicy which is great. In Thailand the spiciness in their cooking doesn't compare to how it's served back here in USA. Over it was decent ok but not a wow place as the other reviews stated. I would come back. I'm sharing this place so hesitantly. It's one of my all time favorite sushi/thai places. I've been going here for years. I love the restaurant. No reservations needed, just walk in. The service is amazing and food is even better. Their curry's are all wonderful, my favorite is the Panag Chicken curry. I also love their sushi rolls and they have an extensive menu. I've been coming here for over a year now and I always order some apps and sushi which never disappoints but on Wednesday the 30th I decide to take my wife here for some dinner since we both like Thai . I never look at the other menu expect for sushi but that night I decided to switch it up . Apps were great as always. But when it came time to order me and my wife ordered the thai and boy was it not like it was supposed to be . The pic does it justice bit to explain it looked like slop that was thrown on the plate . It came out super fast . Which was suspicious. We also heard chef mike working hard by how hot the plate was and how quick the food came out not to mention you can hear the door slamming and buttons going off . No presentation . Suuuuuper sweet which isn't like regular muy thai . Informed the server and told her it was super sweet and kindly asked for another menu in which I chose the shrimp thai and after ordering that it came out not even 2 minutes later . At that point my wife stopped eating and pretended she was full but look disgusted. And I was getting upset . She asked if we would like dessert but at that point I was ready to leave . She took off one muy Thai which was nice but didn't ask us anything . I don't know if the place was having a hard time because of the hurricane or they just didn't care .
