After saying grace at family gatherings my grandfather used to clap his hands together and say "mangia, mangia!" and we'd all dig in. This was a pointless story for a couple of reasons, being that my grandfather (RIP Poppi!) is no longer with us to appreciate the delightfully authentic fare at Amarone, and I'm now pretty much a lapsed Catholic. Anywho what's important HERE is the food, so let's get to it. On the menu tonight (or whenver you're reading this, I suppose)... -A bottle of chianti. Yes, a whole bottle. -Warm, crusty, delicious Italian bread with olives & olive oil (yyyyyeah, do it). -A fresh, fresh, fresh caprese salad with an insane balsamic glaze. -Mushroom ravioli special with TDF brown butter sauce that I'm still thinking AND talking about apparently. -Seafood pasta dish that reminded me of cioppino but was called something different. (Sidenote: after like a solid 30 minutes of eating it still looked like we hadn't made a dent in this thing. They're not skimping you on any perfectly cooked shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams or calamari over here). -The best coffee I'VE EVER HAD (and I would know) served with complimentary biscotti and not complimentary tiramisu and cannoli. The only thing I wasn't thrilled with was the decor which was a little dated, but to be honest it did have a certain kind of ambiance that I didn't really mind. This restaurant is located across the street from Holy Name Hospital. I use to frequent this restaurant a lot when my mother was a patient at the hospital. My wife and I actually had our first date at this restaurant a little over 6 years ago. Recently I went here with my wife to celebrate Valentine's Day a week late. I ordered the shrimp wrapped in prosciutto and wife got linguine with baby lobster and scallops. The food was wonderful, and the place was reasonable. The only problem with this restaurant is that it can be difficult to find parking at times. But this establishment is definitely worth a visit. read more

It's not often that I feel the need to write a review of a restaurant, but this place was BAD. Went here for dinner on Easter Sunday as part of a party of 7. The first red flag came when the waitstaff, after seating us, descended on our table and began moving silverware and glasses, correcting their positioning. It was very seriously unprofessional; at that point, I would've let the guests figure it out for themselves rather than go back and embarrass myself. It took about half an hour to order. I ordered the Apple Salad (a special for Easter), as well as a Steak. They were out of steak. A-OK, I'll get the Gnocchi. Some at the table ordered soups, appetizers, etc. and we were good to go. 45 minutes later, our salads/soups came out. I must admit, the salad was very good, and there was a general consensus around the table that the soup/salad didn't disappoint. After they took our plates, we waited another 45 minutes, until appetizers were brought out for the two members of our party who had ordered them. I saw this as being particularly thoughtless: when two of seven order appetizers, maybe it would make sense to start the entrees at a relatively similar time, so that they come out not THAT much later, and the majority of the party isn't left twiddling its thumbs? No such luck. We waited another 45 minutes after the appetizers were brought out until our entrees were delivered. Sometime in between appetizers and entrees, our waiter came by and informed me that my second choice, the Gnocchi, was unavailable. He recommended the cavatelli (prepared the same way), which I accepted. When it came out - 20 minutes later - I was left with a plate of chewy, hard, and generally mediocre food. The nail in the coffin for me was when the manager came over and made representations that I was better off with the cavatelli, because it tastes better anyway. ...What? Against my protest, we ordered dessert as well. I had the chocolate lava cake and a cappuccino. The cake was dry, but the cappuccino was excellent. TOTAL TIME: 2hr. 40min. SUMMARY: Not good. Service was seriously wanting, food was mediocre at best, and overall I spent way too much time waiting for a very insignificant payout. read more

Insulted one of the women in the party, dismissed us when we mentioned the reason we were celebrating, and just shrugged at one diner who asked for help in avoiding a food allergy. This place was absolutely amazing! Every single dish we got was so so good! This is now def gonna become our go to Italian restaurant for sure. Everything was great. The atmosphere, the food, drinks. Very good Italian food and excellent service make this a perfect spot for me to take lunch. I've never heard the waiters say no. I asked for the calamari to be grilled rather than fried, no problem. The old lady to my left asked the waiter when the thunderstorm was due, he pulled out his phone and read her the weather forecast. Haven't visited this establishment in quite a few years and was always impressed as I remembered with there food and service. I would have to rate it up there with the finer Italian restaurants in the area like La Vecchia Napoli in Edgewater and Grissini of Englewood Cliffs. Pick any of these 3 fine dinning establishments and you cant go wrong. Our waiters were Daniel and Leon both very excellent and friendly and gave us impeccable service. The food and wine list exceeded our expectations ordering a split pasta for starters and a bronzino main course along with a lamb shank from the specials, both done to perfection with the bronzino offered filleted or by whole fish. A reasonable priced French Bordeaux wine was selected to accompany our dinner. We will never be going back to this restaurant. We used to love this place and after dining here on Friday night we will never be dining here again. We were very upset with what the Server did to us. We shared 2 appetizers, ordered a pasta and had 2 bottles of wine and the server DELIBERATELY charged us for 2 chicken entrees and an appetizer instead of 2 appetizers and an entree. We have never had an issue sharing dishes and when we asked the server about it, he said that the kitchen split our dishes on plates for us (which we did not ask for) and because of that he CHOSE to charge us for a higher dish when that is not what we ordered. We ordered 2 bottles of wine so we were spending money and we are appalled at the fact that the server did this on purpose just because we were sharing plates. I am a server and I work in the industry and you don't have the right to do that just because someone is sharing plates. No where did it say you are not allowed to share plates and we think this is a disgusting move on the servers part. Very upset by this experience. read more

Okay, I have to give this place five stars because of the service. The owner takes great care of his guests, many of whom are regulars. He is a humble guy who is willing to do whatever it takes to make the customer's experience, be it clear plates, fix a wobbly table, etc. He stopped to talk to me, recognizing that it was my first time as I was not one of his usual patrons. And then he brought me a limoncello on the house! So nice. As for the food, I would just be prepared to spend minimum $30/person if you want to be full. we were psyched to get some authentic North Jersey italian dinners. stumbled on this cute place across from Holy Name. we walked in, i believe the owner mumbled his name jimmy, and sat us all the way in the corner. we got waters and drinks right away. then it went down hill. nobody wanted to claim they were our waiter. so after the water, we waited ten minutes and still had not been waited on. we still had no idea who was serving us, even though the room very small, maybe 8 or 9 tables. finally, when it was apparent nobody wanted our table, the second manager came by and took our order. it took another 40 minutes to get our food, not once did a server check on us after we got our food. we never did figure out who was supposed to be our server. well i guess this is one of these joints that only cater to their regulars. i give this place a -1 for caring. bummed out they treated us like we werent even there dont go here read more
