Montes, need a pizza fix in portland? Look no further. This isn't a run of the mill NY joint. They…read moreserve up a Roman style. First, some expectation setting- You can think of it as a first cousin to a grandma style or second cousin to a Sicilian. Thinner crust, decent structure, more structured than a NY, less structured than a Sicilian or a good grandma style. It's a little lighter than a Sicilian or grandma in terms of crust. "Heaviness" is pretty subjective depending on the toppings. The pizza - Soppresatta was packed with flavor, salty, spicy, little sweet from a touch of honey and a very fresh, slightly punchy sauce - keeps some acidity and tastes lively. The crust was delicious, from what I read, this is a sourdough crust. Definitely had some good character and flavor to it.. I got this heated before eating it. The vegan special - obviously I'm not vegan, but that pizza looked phenomenal. Had to try it. This one did not get heated up as it was suggested to leave it cold (logical considering it basically has a salad on top). I don't know what the vegan cheese was but it tasted like a whipped ricotta/goat cheese would. The fresh tomato, pickled peppers and red onion all played perfectly together. I'd certainly go back here. A little on the pricey side but I think it rang in around $18 on these 2 slices (yes, pictured is considered a slice of each) I was plenty satisfied.

I honestly didn't think I'd have a chance to get back to this place, but my sister was sneaky and sent her GPS so that we were going right by it before I headed off to the airport to head home and I'm so glad she did This place is fantastic. The pizza is great. I wish I had room in my suitcase to bring back other items, but it was fantastic to be able to stop by and really looking forward to going there the next time I'm back in Maine.

I was searching for a slice this afternoon and immediately knew my target when I saw a photo of the pillowy Sicilian pizza here. It was even better than it looked, and it looked great. The crust tastes like a fresh baked focaccia, the sauce has a lush flavor (the sauce was the star of the pizza if I had to choose), and the cheese was a substantial herb-topped layer without being heavy. It's also approximately 9 for a large "slab" that could easily be split for lunch. This is also some of the only pizza I've ever had that is similar to the Sicilian slices I had growing up in Cambridge and going to Armando's (for any Bostonians that may know!) so it had a nostalgic element for me. Must hit place for very memorable pizza.

I'm drooling just thinking about it all over again. It was like taking a bite out of a fluffy cloud. One slice (a little under $10) is big enough to feed two hungry folks, or three if you're not that hungry. Other than the pizza, I'll take this opportunity to express my love and appreciation for Micucci. This Italian grocery store is as mom-and-pop as it gets, and the vibes, products, and prices show it! Their selection is so impressive; everything from oils to pasta to wines, and even a deli with all the best cheeses and meats (best guanciale in town!!!). I just love this place!

Seeing the news of them opening up on Thursday I knew we needed to visit their first weekend open. Ordered online and had a minimal wait once we got there, with only one hiccup. For some reason their system didn't print our order of mozzarella sticks but they made a batch really quick! My wife and I each got a different 10 inch pizza and split a small order of the mozzarella sticks. The pizza was perfectly sized for an individual in my opinion and tasty so good! Fresh ingredients with lots of toppings used, they didn't skimp on anything. Some of the best pizza I have had in awhile! Secondly, the mozzarella sticks I would say are the best I have had! Such a flavorful seasoned batter with fresh mozzarella inside fried to perfection! The small order had 6. I hope they do well as I will be a frequent visitor looking forward to my next pizza! Want to return and try their burgers, wings, and even their grab and go breakfast sandwiches! I suspect most of their business will be ordering online/pickup but they do have a few tables available inside. If you are in the area and craving pizza this is a spot you must check out!!!

It's unique and it's simple -- but the flavors created are something to keep coming back for. In my most recent visit, we had a pretty bad experience leading up to the pizzas actually being served. We had some friends visiting and decided to go to grab pizza after sending a small group back to the mainland on the 6 o'clock boat. Our order must have been placed maybe 5 or 10 minutes after 6... we weren't served our first pizza until after 8 PM. And our second pizza lagged behind that one by nearly 10 minutes. I can understand how, taken out of context, this can be seen as a petty complaint. However, it really was a discouraging experience because we had multiple (at least half a dozen) other groups order well after us and enjoy their entire dining experience all around us. The group ordering behind us enjoyed their pizzas, bottles of wine and chit chatted for nearly a half hour after their indulgences... and still rode off in their golf cart before our pizzas even made it into the oven. The part that really baffled me was that we took the opportunity to speak with the staff about what was causing the delay -- simply asking if our pizza order had been started or not yet and the explanation was "our team has made several mistakes this evening and we don't have a good estimate on how long it'll take for your pizzas to be ready". We got the same explanation after waiting for 45 minutes and again after nearly an hour and a half. It seemed like a pretty inadequate answer when their wood-fired oven was often not full of cooking pizzas and their entire staff was dancing to the music playing on their speakers. In the end... the pizza was good (same quality as expected). But my experience left something to be seriously desired.

My friend and I decided to split a pizza and it was a good sharing size. We got the burrata and it was delicious! The cashier told us it would be about 45 and I think it was a bit less than that but expect a bit of a wait on a busy weekend. The crust is super thin and floppy but good texture and taste! The sauce was flavorful and the burrata was perfect.
