Pretty good Asian fusion restaurant with great (cheap!) lunch specials in a nice atmosphere. Lots of sushi options for the lunch special, and standard Asian fusion fare for other lunch options (think Pad Thai, Thai red or green curry, sesame chicken, etc.). Decided to take out from Amaze on Tuesday for lunch and I'm EXTREMELY disappointed. The sushi tasted so awful and not ediable that I had to throw it out. I wasted $11 dollars on a lunch that went in the garbage. It honestly tasted as if there were so many extra ingredients and debatably another type of fish combined into this roll. Maybe the fish wasn't fresh? I ordered two spicy tuna avocado rolls and got rolls that tasted similar to salmon, but couldn't even figure it out. Amaze used to be amazing. The quality of food is not as good as it used to be. I had green curry for lunch yesterday but it was the worst I've had. It was very watered down and had no taste what so ever. My friend also agreed that her dish was below average. I will be patronizing other restaurants until Amaze get their act together and add some flavor to their dishes. read more

Definitely NOT amazed. In all my life, living in New York, I've never been to a bad Thai restaurant until today. I came here for lunch. I ordered a pad thai and my friend ordered a green curry. The food came out pretty quickly, but clearly because the dish had just been reheated. The dish was hot but the food was lukewarm. The green curry came out with sliced raw onions on top of it (EW) and my pad thai was undercooked chewy and completely inedible. On top of all that, the servers were not the least bit apologetic. Ordered the pad Thai shrimp. The pad Thai is so good but the shrimp is over cooked! Had the Malaysian chicken curry. The chicken was so tender and good. Unfortunately, the potatoes were hard and dry and too big of chunks and too many of them. I really would have liked more of a curry sauce or gravy. I mixed the Pad Thai with the chicken! I also had the Thai Tom Yum soup. Too spicy with no real flavor or ingredients. I really wanted the clam chowler but they did not have any. It's on the menu! My friend had the sesame chicken with white meat and it was good. She also had the vegetable spring rolls and they looked good too! Next time, I won't be so adventurous! My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday because he had to go into the office and I got a little hangry while waiting for him. I was really craving something with soy sauce and the advertisement for $15 brunch with a beer, appetizer, entree, and soup or salad intrigued us. We went in and the place was empty! There was one other customer. The waitress told us we could sit wherever we'd like and brought us some waters. We ordered the same thing: chicken broccoli with brown rice, salad, and vegetable dumplings. Everything was cooked well, and they used the perfect amount of sauce on the chicken broccoli. Was a weekly staple for me! They have DELICIOUS lunch specials of Chinese, Thai and Japanese food. I am big stickler about salt in my food...if there is too much, I am not happy because I cannot taste the flavors in my food. Amaze prepared all their food with just the right amount of salt. I normally called to order and picked up my food to go. The person with whom I spoke on the phone was always patient and friendly. The rolls are not the best , but pretty decent. The rest of the food is great! I loved the Malaysian chicken curry, and the chicken Katsu. The environmental is very friendly . The service is slow though. The waiters are all very sweet but both times we went, our rolls were ready and waiting on the counter for 15 mins before someone finally picked them up and served us. The happy hour prices are impressive and the decor looks nice. Service is relatively quick, but does not exactly come with a smile here. DO NOT GO HERE. The staff is insane. Due to an incompetent waiter who told us at least five times that we could get happy hour drink prices and only gave us the happy hour menu to order from despite happy hour having already ended, we were overcharged at the end of the night. But instead of laying blame on the waiter, who was on his first day at the job, the staff became rude and hostile and yelled at us for being idiots and wouldn't relent on the bill for a full hour, threatening to call the cops. We left money for what we owed and while trying to get out, they physically restrained two people in my party and LOCKED THEM inside of the restaurant. We had to call the police, who sided with us, to finally get them out, and they then became hostile with the police! I will never forget this horrible night and the maniacs who work here. read more

Food is okay, but easily the best happy hour special in Midtown East. It's unbelievable how cheap it is and the variety offered as well - almost any drink on the menu. I came here Friday night with friends and I was skeptical at first because of some of the reviews. When we first entered it was fairly empty, I suspect because we just missed happy hour, and were seated immediately. I must admit the older waitress who sat us wasn't necessarily rude at first, she just had a mean unapproachable face like she didn't want to be there. But the younger waitress who ended up waiting on us was great... very friendly and accommodating and even took our picture. I ate way more than I should have thinking the portions would be small. I had the fried seafood roll, spicy tuna roll, the Thai red curry shrimp and 2 glasses of plum wine. Everything was unbelievably good and my entire party enjoyed their dishes. Then the older rude waitress comes over to rush us to pay because they're closing. Overall a good experience with the exception of the mean faced lady lol. read more

I like coming here for lunch because it has the best value for the buck in the hood. The lunch special comes with a choice of soup or salad and ranges from 6.50 to 9. Bento boxes are $11 max. What sets this aside from the rest of the other moderately priced restaurants is that it has a great zen decor and the dishes are delish except for the negimaki. I also stay away from the shrimps as on 3 out of 4 occassions, they were not fresh. The curries and pad thai are great as well as the crispy shredded beef (ask them not to make it spicy). However, the service leaves a lot to be desired. I find that you have to chase the wait staff to place an order or to put in a request. It is advisable to come before 12:30 as the waiting game can be tough on peak hours. Despite my opentable reservations, I still had to wait for quite a while before being seated. read more

I love Amaze! Their happy hour drinks are so cheap ($3-$6) and since I guess most people don't go, it's not hard to find a seat. The food is cheap and eatable too. If you come for lunch, it gets really crowded, but you can order before you get there and just pick it up. They have lunch specials as well for around $7. There is upstairs seating as well, but I think you need to reserve or have a party to go up. read more
