The young owner (also the chef) seems a nice guy but he is running a bad restaurant and our (one and done) experience was a miserable one for ambiance, service and food. My husband and I went in at lunchtime (same menu all day) because I read high praise for the schnitzel here on another site and some local radio personality called it "the coolest place ever". (Who ARE these people?) It wasn't planned destination dining, but we were near the Boise mall and and I remembered Amelie's was nearby. I should have know better (but hope springs eternal) because I knew the backstory here. Let's start with that. BACKSTORY: Amelie's is the second format for eatery (if at first you don't succeed...you know the rest of that maxim) by owner Jason Wang in a building that was once McGrath's Fish House (now defunct) and became O'Crab (chain franchise) and then with this owner Country Bay Bistro, a largely seafood boils kinda place in 2021'ish. That didn't work out (for all kinds of reasons) and earlier this year the owner announced a new name, Amelie's (after his wife), that he said would be a French focused food place, to quote him, "...bringing timeless flavors and elegant French charm to Boise." Remember that mission description. What could possibly go wrong in reimagining the cavernous space, with fishing dock and net'ish decor, in that Spectrum location with a seafood boil menu and making it ""...timeless flavors and elegant French charm" ? Turns out the answer is a lot can go wrong. I feel sorry for this owner who seems a good guy, but this bad eatery likely won't last long. SERVICE & VIBE: When we arrived at 12:45'ish, a dark haired young woman dressed in all tee and pants with dark hoodie (that seemed perhaps kitchen attire) was standing alongside the host-stand talking to a man who was seated on a bench drinking coffee. She looked at us as if surprised to see us enter and after a significant pause asked "Do you want a table?" We said we did. She led the way to the dining room, which had no lights on and where we were the only customers except for a man at the bar eating a small green salad (he was still there when we left an hour later), invited us to choose where we'd like to sit among the long tables (all topped with white butcher paper like a motif remaining from the seafood boil days) or step up booths along the walls and asked if we wanted to start with a beverage. (We declined.) A while later she returned to take our orders and left the big menus sitting in front of us. I moved them to the side of the table to get them out of our way (where they remained until the check was delivered). Some time later she returned with our food in three different trips from the kitchen. We didn't see her again until my husband walked out to the front desk (to find her on the phone) to tell her we were ready for our check. When she returned to the table to bring us the check (finally picking up the menus as she said "let me get these out of the way") she asked if we needed take-away boxes since there was a lot of food remaining on both plates. We declined. This was not a person trained in food service. Not her fault. That is a management issue to provide training. About 1:30'ish, towards the end of our meal, a man in an O'Crab shirt appeared from the kitchen and, from behind the bar, finally turned on the lights in the restaurant. French elegant charm this is not. FOOD & $: The menu has several seafood options, like fish and chips and some western Euro options like three kinds of schnitzel. Since the chicken form of this is the dish to which the other diner awarded high praise, this is what I ordered. Per the menu, I expected, "Crisp, golden-breaded cutlet...topped with a creamy mushroom sauce, melted mozzarella garnished with lemon and fresh herbs". What I received was a cutlet so cooked to smithereens that it was difficult to cut, a lettuce salad on the plate (not fresh herbs) with an off taste (as if dressing had gone bad), a lemon wedge and a thick brown'ish sauce that was inedible (delivered to table in gravy boat, no less). My husband didn't fare much better with his choice. The coating on the "crispy beer-battered halibut " fish and chips did not stick to it and while the white fish was flaky it was also tasteless, almost wet textured. The best part of both meals were the French fries and that was largely thanks to the ketchup to dunk them in. The total for the two dishes was just under $40 with tax. Low prices and low quality. NOTE: The owner also advertises this as an event and wedding venue. I am not kidding. PARKING: Private lot. ACCESSIBILITY: Accessible parking in front. Tables are standard height but so close together that it will be difficult for a wheelchair user to sit anywhere but on the end of the tables coming in. LOOKING FOR CLASSIC FRENCH FARE AND CHARM?: Bacquet's in Eagle is the place.

The food was absolutely amazing both times we've been in. The service was nice as well, they just mis charged us both times. First time was charged for a bottle of wine versus a glass, and then we were charged for double lobster. Both waiters were kind and corrected the mistake quickly and kindly. The atmosphere is also a beautiful place.

Good food, wonderful staff & owners, beautiful ambiance. Always a pleasure working with them on our events. I highly recommend Amelie's for any event or even a date night.

Went early to dinner, made it in time for HH. For a mere $2.00 I enjoyed a vodka tea, actually had two. What a bargain. I had the halibut with fries, so yummy. Lightly breaded with a very large serving of fish. Came with steak fries that were also good. Would definitely order again, more than I could eat. My husband ordered the steak Fritas with fries, also good bit the halibut was better, I ended up taking some home as I could not eat it all. Service was excellent, and the venue is very nice, very clean.

Such a wonderful experience! Beautiful dining area and peaceful atmosphere/ music!! We got the poached salmon appetizer and it was one of the best appetizers we have ever had!! The shellfish plate was also super flavorful and the fish was hearty! Servers were very honest and helpful and helped pick the best items and made our experience perfect! Also very good prices for a seafood boil. They packaged our food for us and not to mention the food came out extremely fast!! We will be coming again to try the Sunday brunch and more dinner items for sure!

I though this place so so incredible!! I want to say that it may newer or is struggling to get out because it is not super busy. The people and owners were so nice and educated. The restaurant was super clean as I watched people spot treat the tables. I had order the Shoreline Sizzler and I truly was so impressed with how good the food was. It did not take to long. I would come here again!!

I came in from the Hilton across the street with a $15 coupon, so I decided to give this place a try. I ordered the salmon, and what I received was disappointing -- a small piece of fish served over cabbage, as if they ran out of ingredients and just threw something together. I'm a seafood lover and have had clam chowder from all over, and this was by far the worst I've tried. It had no flavor at all; I actually had to add hot sauce just to make it edible. Based on the quality of the food, I can't see this place lasting long unless they make major improvements. They could honestly use a Gordon Ramsay-style wake-up call, because the food was nowhere near the standard it should be for the prices they charge. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant in its current state.

I have nothing negative to report about my experience at Amelie's. My wife and I were treated with respect (despite being severely underdressed) the service was amazing. Our server Deanna was fantastic and made our dining experience as pleasant and enjoyable as she could. The vibe at Amelie's was very comfy and relaxed despite being a high end dining experience. The lights were low enough to have a candle lit ambiance while also bright enough to see easily. Now finally the food, I was blown away by the quality and flavor the food had. I can't think of a way to explain it beyond the fact that it was the best seafood I've ever had. Bravo Amelie's, and we'll be back soon,

The BEST ever Clam Chowder Soup, with the clams inside the shells..Amazing!

I took my husband here for his birthday and was delightfully surprised at how much the decor had changed. We've seen this place change hands a few times now but we were very impressed. The decor and ambiance were just right and it was very quiet (of course it was 4pm on a Sunday...perfect time to go). We both ordered the All You Can Eat which included anything on the menu except for lobster or king crab, but everything else was included and we were very impressed with that. We had shrimp cocktail, oysters, the BEST clam chowder I've ever had (even had the clams in the shell), ribeye steak (which comes out sizzling on the metal plate so be careful when you order, if you like it medium order it medium rare, etc.), calamari, and scallops. Everything was amazing. One thing to be watchful of is that you can't take anything left to go, so be careful. I ate way too much but couldn't help it because it was all so good, but I felt horrible having to leave a good portion of my steak behind. Also, they have a Black Currant Cider that was amazing and I can't wait to go back, even if I only ordered that and their clam chowder soup. Our waitress was so helpful in assisting us in the ordering process and she had some great recommendations. We both agree that this is our new favorite place (it used to be Barbacoa) and we will definitely be back.

The restaurant was pretty empty, yet our party of six was seated right next to a banquet room hosting what can only be described as a full-blown work party. Between the noise and our waiter speaking loudly and very slowly (think Disneyland character energy), it was tough to tell if he was competing with the party or assuming we were hard of hearing (we are all in our early 50's). Either way, it made conversation... challenging. The food was good and the oysters were amazing, but discussing business over what felt like a live soundtrack wasn't ideal. The waiter even joked about closing the banquet room door because "those folks know how to party," then promptly did nothing about it. As the group finally wrapped up, one guy actually apologized for interrupting our dinner -- which kind of said it all. We'll definitely try a quieter spot next time we're entertaining clients.

The table side guacamole is a must. So good and they tailor it to your requested spice level. Be warned, it is enough guac to feed a table of 6. So good. The Firerock entree is a crowd pleaser, and tastes amazing. You can't beat the experience of it getting flambéed at your table. I've also tried various cocktails and have never been disappointed. They serve their martinis in an ice glass (yes the glass is made of 100% ice). The presentation is so fun. This is definitely our go to for special date nights.

Reservations are strongly recommended especially the weekend, but usually for the nicer months, most people go for the patio so reservations are mandatory for that. Indoors were pretty empty so you can probably get away with walking in, but for peace of mind, I would recommend a reservation. We went on a Saturday during mid May so people were celebrating Mother's Day and graduation, so we had to make a reservation a month in advance for that dinner service. We got the BBQ duck quesadilla, tableside guacamole, and the signature hot rock filet with a side of zucchini chips sprinkled with cheese. This was more than enough for 2 people as every dish is huge. The quesadilla is delicious, with a good amount of duck. Kind of similar experience to a BBQ chicken quesadilla, but fancier. Tableside guacamole is good - lots of guac but since we were seated outside with a beautiful lake view directly, there were steps so it was not possible to see the guacamole prepared tableside. The server should have mentioned it as we wanted to see the preparation, and we were never informed as such so the premium for the appetizer was not as worthwhile. The hot rock filet was good. I loved the fire show when they pour the mix of cognac peppercorn sauce. The steak was incredibly high quality - really juicy and not much tendon. This is the type of steak I have been seeking in many restaurants that fail to deliver. The zucchini chips side was good, a little flimsy on the batter, but nonetheless satisfying. We got cocktails that were icetinis - a glass with an ice shaped like the glass. They pour a small portion of the drink on the glass and left the rest in the cocktail shaker for us to pour gradually so that the drink is not as diluted, which is a good touch. Service can be improved - I understand the server is fairly new but there should be a minimal amount of experience to serve at such a high end restaurant? Some big misses I had were not giving shared plates until we asked, covering a bit of the show with the arm when pouring the fire cognac, and when requesting the check, he took a pause to place the receipt at the table but failed to see that he placed the check on top of some guac we dropped at the table so my credit cards after payment were incredibly sticky and oily. If people are dropping hundreds for a nice experience, I expected service to be better than that.

Here's some food review: The steak tartar lacked salt. But the flavor and quality of the beef was good. The duck fat potato didn't come with the trout caviar on top. It was crispy on the outside. Mush on the inside. The sauce lacked salt and needed more of a flavor punch. The curry snapper needed more curry taste but the dish was cooked very well. The duck confit was just okay in my opinion. Again, lacked salt again. The duck was fall of the bone tender but was placed on top of a miclx of mushy lentils and salad, not my jam. The ribeye was cooked well but in my opinion, a steak shouldn't be presented already cut. Would I go again? Yes. I'd take a date for a few cocktail and a nice meal. But did it wow me? Service wise. Yes. Food wise, meh.

I have eaten at churrascarias across from Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro and favelas in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Additionally, I have eaten at many churrascarias across the United States. Totally recommend Tucanos in Boise. The place is huge and can easily handle large groups. We were visited by staff and management frequently asking if they could do more for our group. Sadly, there are the normal gutless Yelpers who have to whine and give low scores days after they visited. With management walking around and stopping at your table to ask you if there's anything more they can do, it is disheartening to read some classless Yelpers backstabbing comments. Their opportunity to give a decent response to management was right there at their table. Too bad they need the extra attention of preening on Yelp. They were not raised by good parents.
