Permission to use an analogy: (hint, hire the mechanic) If you have a sports car you take it to the mechanic that knows how to work on vehicles, you don't take it to the dealer that looks at a book and replace parts... Because they have no idea what they're doing and have new parts they need to sell. A skilled mechanic, with years of experience, know how to problem solve and use information to correct or improve performance. Verses: most technicianshave enough training to tell you something works or doesn't work, which isn't that useful in most cases. Technicians know that things are not new or that things don't look exactly the way the textbook says. This typically causes missed diagnosed symptoms or wasteful corrections... Wow, these guys are fantastic. My AC went out on a Sunday at 5PM Labor Day Weekend. I have a home warranty via American Home Shield. I called AHS first thing Monday morning and explained that my AC went out and I really needed it fixed ASAP because I care for a relative who is bed bound and we cannot get out of the house to cool down in this 108 degree heat today. The AHS representative went to the next level and said she would call their list of vendors to see if any of them would be available ASAP. Amen Air was at the top of the list and someone at Amen actually picked up the phone and said someone could be here between 11AM-1PM that same day which was just in a few hours. After the call was dispatched to Amen, they called me in about 5 minutes and were right on top of it. At exactly 11AM, Mike from Amen rang the door bell to take a look. Within about 5 minutes he identified the problem which was a blown fuse. He replaced the fuse, cleaned up the wiring, and did a few more things to my AC to keep it in tip top shape. 30 minutes later he was all done and AC is back to working!!! We live in Bermuda dunes and our air conditioning went out at two in the afternoon. I put in a service request with American home Shield who has our home warranty and they dispatched Amen Air. We were very pleasantly surprised when their technician German showed up at our door one hour later. He replaced the capacitor and fan motor and the other surprising thing was that they had the parts on their truck so the technician completed the repair in one hour. In today's world it's very unusual to find somebody providing customer service at this level when they show up at your house within one hour have the parts with him to complete the repair unbelievable! Heat pump system went out during recent rains and electrical issues. Checked what I could, but it looked like an electrical or electronics issue that was beyond my ability to fix. Technician German arrived on time: 2:41 in a window that was supposed to be 2-5. Pleasant, knowledgeable, thorough. It was a motherboard problem; there are videos on YouTube about it. But German tracked the voltage through and said: "the motherboard's telling me that this is working, but I'm looking at the voltages and it's not actually going through where the motherboard says." He took over an hour to track down the problem, and the problem's fixed now. And when he was done, he looked at the attic access panel, and said, "do you have something I can wipe this down with? Because I have this tall ladder and it's probably the last time for a while that anyone will be up here." And he wiped down most of the big stains, even though he didn't cause any of them. Only given 1 star because it required to do so but we would give them No Stars. This company was not able to fix my AC unit. We were charged $800 for refrigerant and the technician should have found the leak before installing the refrigerant. I have contacted them for a recall of service calls and they are UNWILLING DISCLOSE any information to us! We do not recommend this company!!! Get another HVAC company first. This Review is for Olga, who handled my phone call, and German who was the service technician who responded. There are no words that can explain the desperation one has when the inside of their house is 100 degrees. My 2 year old central air unit lost 3 lbs of gas, causing the unit to ice up and not cool. Of course this happen on a Thursday evening. I have a home warranty service, and they scheduled me with a different vendor, who on Friday morning stated that they were not sure they could even get to me by Monday. My wife and I are very senior citizens, and the temperature was unbearable. I had used Amen Air before, so I call the home warranty company to authorize Amen as my Service Provider which they did I called and spoke to Olga who answered the phone on the second ring, and explained my problem, and was met with a sympathetic ear, She explained that they were pretty booked, but would try to squeeze me in at the end of the day.,.if not first thing Saturday Morning. She was able to get me in Friday late, and for this I thank her. If you read some of the reviews, you find that people sometimes think that a company should respond immediatly,, and if they dont, they get a bad review. I was lucky, but would have understood if i had to wait until the next day. Thanks Olga. My Service Tech, German,responded at 530pm and diagnosed the problem as a loss of gas. Yes 3 pounds is expensive, but it is what it is. The temperature is goind down as I write... We will have to address the ultimate cause of the leak..probably in the coil unit in the attic, which is original...but just happy its working. Amen is my go to Service Company... My "home warranty insurance" (AHS) was contacted online at 4:30 AM. Amen Air called me at 7:00 AM to set up at appointment with a "9-11" window. The office called at 10:30 said the technician was running late, however he arrived at 11:15. The electrical problem was fixed in 20 minutes; he then filled the unit with Freon did some clean up and was gone. I couldn't be happier. (How can these guys work outside in this heat! I offered him ice water and beverages, of course.) read more

This company did not honor what the said. Customer service was horrible! The owner of the company was rude and continuously yelled at me on the phone. A repair was done by them and they did not stand by the warranty and agreement. They made no effort to honor what was said by one of employee in terms of repair, cost, warranty, etc! I've read the GOOD reviews about Amen Air. I've also read the BAD reviews. Consider this a GOOD review. One of my thermostats went out after a power outage. Given that the unit was 15 years old and this is the desert, I guess it was to be expected. This was an American Home Shield home warranty repair. Amen is one of their vendors. The BAD reviews on Yelp concerned me. I need not have worried. Amen sent out a technician named German - very courteous and knowledgable. He ran a number of diagnostic tests to determine that, yes, only the thermostat was bad. German replaced the device with a brand-new thermostat that is very easy for me and my wife to use. Since this was only a thermostat replacement and not a major HVAC issue, it wasn't much of a stretch to give them 5 stars for this visit. Much has been mentioned on Yelp about Olga, Amen's dispatcher. I found Olga to be extremely helpful regarding the scheduling of my appointment. She kept in touch with me to narrow the time window so I wouldn't miss a later doctor's appointment, as well as let me know that German was running late due to his schedule. All in all, a very good visit from Amen Air. read more

Too hot to be in the house, I had requested that the repairman call me when he was on his way so we could meet. I then received a phone message he was at the house without calling me first and had left. I called Olga at their office and she told me he could not come back and said I would have to call American Home Shield again and request another service call. Today, the repairman came back and my husband came with me to meet him. His comments are as follows: "Without a doubt, one of the staff, Tony, was the most unprofessional & uncouth individuals we ever encountered. Profanity totally uncalled for and in front of my wife. F...k this and S...t that (multiple times) - on top of that didn't know how to operate the thermostat. Ultimately, changed somethings inside the A/C unit and also the thermostat. No customer and particularly a woman should not be subjected to that profanity." Tony also left without letting us know he had completed the job. He just disappeared. This was the most unpleasant experiences I have ever had with a service person. read more

Amen air sent out someone with 48 hours of my home warranty request which I'm grateful for however it was a complete waste as I would've preferred for my warranty company to send out somebody who is competent. Facts: 1. A gentleman showed up yesterday to work on the unit to repair my a/c. 2. When he arrived and started working on the unit, my mom called me to say that he was draining the Freon from my unit because he said it was "overcharged." My a/c only goes out in the summer and has been serviced several times; never has any of the 5 techs from different companies told me that it was overcharged. As a matter of fact a technician (sent by the warranty company) put more Freon in it last year. I asked my mother to put the tech on the phone. I spoke with him for approximately 30 seconds before he got off of the phone without notice. During the conversation, I asked him how it's possible that another air conditioning company put more Freon in it last year, and it's been working over the fall as being "overcharged with freon" and how that's the reason why it's all of a sudden not working now. He proceeded to say that he could not answer for other people's a/c units which made no sense. 3. I am currently out of town on business so I asked my mom to make sure that he checked out with me before leaving to ensure the a/c was working. He did not even check out with her before leaving AND left behind the measuring apparatus he used to remove my freon at my residence. 4. I called Amen Air to send the tech back out because he would've never left yesterday if the A/C was still not working as it wasn't and still isn't working. The lady who answered the phone said I would have to call my warranty company under a recall and a different problem and would not send the tech back out. She tried to say that I was rude on the phone which I am not, I am matter of fact and I want logical answers to the questions I am asking. How does a business send a technician out to perform a service, and that technician leaves without confirming the issue has been fixed OR at least communicate that the problem is still not fixed and they are still working on it, and a technician who leaves behind equipment? Clearly I am questioning the capacity and ability of the technician to properly diagnose the problem. It's not a big deal that equipment was left behind but for someone to not leave, leave behind equipment, and have the unit still not working, clearly is an indicator that this company does not have qualified staff. 5. When I called and spoke to the woman at the office today there was no resolution as she kept telling me to call my warranty company which I disagree with because I wouldn't have to call my warranty company if the guy had never left yesterday before confirming it was operating properly. She hung up on me. How's that for customer service and operating a business? Horrible. Do NOT use this company based on quality ad service; both of which they are clearly lacking. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. My home warranty contracted them to repair my ac. They went out and fixed the leak and told me I owed $350.00 for freon. I said my warranty says some is covered. They said the cost was $60 and the warranty covered 10.00. Should have been charged 40.00 for 7 lbs. got charged 50.00. Did some checking and R22 is not that expensive. What bothers me more is they treated me rudely and like I was an idiot for questioning it. If I can go to Amazon and buy a 30lb tank for 367.00 shouldn't they be able to better? Answer from them is they are professionals. More like crooks. Watch out!! read more

From the moment he walked in, he said he was having a bad day. I didn't think however he would use me as a punching bag to fulfill his anger. if you want to be abused in your own house, then Amen Air is the company for you!!! Poor attitude, and extremely controlling. Though I asked him to stop cleaning the dirty gross filter all over my plants, he refused to stop. My cat was also sleeping in the area and got all wet! Terrific job by Germen! The repair was made the same day I reported it. Earlier this summer, amidst daily 115 degree temps, it took another company more than seven weeks and about ten visits to a temp repair which broke down last night. I'd been charged $950 for a part by that other company which I learned today, I never needed. In all those weeks, they kept lying to me and doing nonsense repairs. Germen quickly realized the problem -something the other company never even looked into- and fixed it quickly. He was extremely friendly and efficient. My tenants at a rental property in Palm Desert texted me at 7:00am to inform me the A/C stopped working. (July is always a very hot month). I called amen air and they were at the property by 2 PM and repair the air-conditioning for a reasonable price. I live out of the area. We were assigned Amen Air through our home warranty company. My husband took a day off from work to meet them at their 10-12 window to diagnose the problem. He then told the tech that no one would be available for the next visit until after 3:30 any day and he acknowledged that. When it came time to schedule the following visit to install the part they said it had to be before noon as they only worked until then. We tried to discuss this and the man who answered the phone was combative and verbally abusive as we were unable to accommodate their schedule. Do not accept any appointment from them if you are unwilling to stay home in the morning and miss work. The worst customer service ever. read more

AC went out during Labor Day weekend. Tony arrived on time and was very knowledgeable and helpful. He worked quickly to figure out the problem. Unfortunately our problem was a more complicated than we expected and we had to wait to get a part ordered because of the holiday. But that's life, sometimes timing just sucks. Anyway, he did what he could and was straight up about the circumstance, which I respect. AC companies are the unsung heroes of the desert. UPDATED: Unfortunately I have to update my review of this company. One week after their tech came out (he was delightful, honest and very helpful), we had the same problem with our system. Our previous tech had told us it was a possibility that his remedy was only temporary, so we weren't shocked. Called the warranty company, which was closed for the night. So we tried calling Amen directly on Saturday afternoon. No answer. No return call. On Sunday, the warranty company tried to reach them in order to come out. The warranty company was supposed to contact them, since our previous issue was still an "open ticket". Amen never returned our calls, and when contacted by our warranty company, they declined to come out to our home. I understand if a company doesn't want to do outside of business hours work, but then they shouldn't sign up to be a vendor for one of the country's biggest home warranty providers. I'm very disappointed. I highly recommend Amen Air. We had a problem on a Saturday and Amen came out with very little notice. The service was fast, friendly and HONEST. No upsell for anything we didn't need. The service tech was helpful, informative and was able to give us the peace of mind we were looking for. Would use them again. read more

My experience with this company was not very good. The office staff were fantastic, but it ended there. The technician was one of the rudest service people that I have run across. He would not listen, he interrupted me every time I tried to talk, he was condescending and would not listen. After fixing the leak and replacing the Freon, he refused to test that the system was producing cold air. I asked him to check the temperature of the air coming from the ducts, he refused, he said get some other company if I wanted that checked. So basically he repaired the leak, but did not verify that the system was operating correctly. He didn't wait around to see if the temperature in the house actually dropped. The company may be OK, but this technician is definitely doing a disservice to the company. read more

Juan the technician is great, but the owner and his wife Patti need to learn about customer service, and not mislead either the homeowner or the homeowner's home warranty service (AHS in this case). We had a part malfunction in our unit that caused it to shut on and off at will (on a Friday night). Called AHS (Sat AM) and was assigned to Amen Air. Called them and received a call back from Patti telling me that I would receive a call from them on Sunday late afternoon to set up an eventual appointment for "Monday or Tuesday". I pleaded my case for a Monday appointment, and to her credit, I was indeed given a Monday appointment. When the technician Juan arrived on Monday, he was able to quickly assess the problem, but in the process, we both noticed that the condensation drainage pipe was incorrectly attached, causing the unit to not drain. Having had many positive experiences with AHS before, and knowing that they will not authorize additional work beyond the original scope, unless you contact them first, while Juan was replacing the defective part, I called AHS to get the authorization to fix the new problem, which was finally granted while I was still on the phone with them, and while Juan was still on the premises. It required several phone calls between AHS and Patti, between Patti and her technician Juan, but we got it done. Juan proceeded to cut the drainage pipe and reattach it in an attempt to get it to drain. As he was reassembling the unit, we both saw that his attempt hadn't worked. He then said he needed to leave to get additional parts, go to another job, then return to complete the repair. Patti then called to say that she would be calling me at day's end to schedule when the repairs could be completed. I then called AHS to reconfirm that the additional work was authorized and they told me it was, and that their notes showed that Amen Air would be returning to complete the job. Here's where it gets strange..... At 5:45 that evening, the owner of Amen Air called me to say that they had completed the job (obviously not true... the unit wasn't draining properly). When I asked why they told me and AHS the opposite... get this... this jerk actually told me "I told Juan to tell you that just to get him out of there. He had another job to go to". He never talked to Juan after we discovered Juan's initial fix didn't work! He went on to tell me that I was making Juan's job difficult (nowhere near the truth, Juan and I were very cordial.... I gave him some water since it was a hot day), that "the job was completed while you were on the phone with AHS" (again, nowhere near the truth.... I was with Juan the entire time he worked on the unit). In effect, this jerk was trying to get paid for an uncompleted job, something I later confirmed with AHS. He told them the job was complete when it wasn't. I told them he had lied, and got reassigned to another air conditioning company who immediately contacted me and is more than happy to complete the job. I have been in contact with AHS's Contractor Relations department as well. It is important that AHS knows that this guy was attempting to scam them into believing a job was completed when it wasn't. I've seen the other reviews here on yelp, and I'm sure Patti will post some comment about how crazy I am, how I'm lying, how they are the best thing since sliced bread. Don't believe it. The funny thing is that after all this happened, I remembered that I had an unpleasant interaction with Amen Air 4 years ago at the condo I owned then. I guess some things never change. If I could rate Amen Air a ZERO, I would. They came out as the American Home Shield contractor, and removed the evap coil from my AC unit( in the attic) but forgot to cap the condensate line.(HVAC 101). Two days later, our ceiling and walls were damaged and water stained, and we had a large water spot on our carpet. AHS informed us that they were in no way responsible, and that we had to take it up with Amen Air. The husband/wife owners have done nothing to compensate for the poor work AND the additional damage done to our home as a result of their negligence. we had to hire another contractor to complete the work at our own additional expense. Oh my!! I have used Amen air for over 10 years and spent over $8, 000 with them. Really liked the man that owned the company. He was amazing and i always called them. Also liked his wife that worked there (until today). We called them about a concern on air/ heating previous work, part of the 8 grand, and i had a lady named Olga that took my call. Wow, is she a piece of work! I gave her 7 invoice numbers from all the past work, and she was NOT going to help. I was so shocked by her attitude on the phone that i finally asked for the owner's wife. The owner's wife told Olga to tell me for Olga to handle it. For a company that so impressed me with the workmanship of the owner, they have GONE DOWN HILL. This is so sad for this business. I had planned on always using them and having my family use them as well. So, for a rude Olga, and a super uninterested owner wife, they have lost a ton of money from me.
