"We had to file a claim with Anthem / Insurance companies but the process was frustrating as they changed their position multiple times. In the end, they denied coverage because we had another company come out to properly fix the issue-this included replacing the coil, installing it correctly, replacing the drain pan (which Anthem never addressed), and installing both a new drain line and a secondary backup drain line. We have an existing maintenance contract for HVAC and plumbing. Bobby came over for plumbing maintenance, he found that our water pressure was high and at a dangerous level, he had a regulator in his truck and replaced it the same day. Our hot water heater was 19 years old, it did not have a flood pan, he recommended we replace the hot water heater and gave me three options. We decided to do it and worked with Mike the next day and we selected 40 gallon new commercial unit. Bobby came out the same day and did the work. Very professional and very happy. read more

Very bad, charged me so much "out of pocket" for HVAC, without providing itemized $ for each item, after paying almost 3K (out of pocket) + the home warranty converge the system failed again in less than a month!, Not sure if I can trust that company with any future job! I requested the $99 HVAC tune-up and everything was OK until the technician found a bad capacitor. He replaced the capacitor in 10 minutes....for $484.50. But...that's the DIscount Price. The regular price would be another $100! Plus, the capacitor costs $15 on Amazon. The technician then said if we signed up for their service plan at $14.95 per month we would save money and get additional plumbing service included and also the $99 fee would be waived. I gave the OK but soon realized I had been pressured into this decision. I subsequently called the company and complained and was told they do not charge by the hour but by the job. Guess what a job costs....$484.50. He said that the job could have taken three hours but my job took 10 minutes. If I cancelled the contract (after one payment) he would ding my credit card for $169.05. I realized I had not done the proper research and decided to let the contract ride for 12 months and then he said he would cancel it. That probably won't happen so I will likely be on the phone again a year from now. This is an unethical company that overcharged me and then pressured me into an unwanted contract. read more

Another poor experience with American Home Shield (AHS) and one of their assigned contractors. In this case, the contractor was Anthem Mechanical. I placed a service request for an AC unit that was not cooling. After paying my $100.00 trade fee to AHS, I received an email from them indicating Anthem Mechanical would contact me within 24 hours to schedule an appointment. After 24 hours, I did not receive a call, so I called them and setup an appointment. The following day, the technician, Arturo, arrived and met with my representative to diagnose the problem. Arturo called me and claimed the metering device (a $900.00 part) needed to be replaced. He also noted the part would be covered by AHS. However, Arturo claimed the AC unit needed 10 pounds of Freon. When he told me the cost per pound, I was shocked. He said the cost would be $255.00 a pound for a total of $2,550.00. I just had Freon filled at another property, and I am well-aware that $255.00 a pound is ridiculous and virtually double the going rate. I asked Arturo if Anthem could replace the part, and I would get the Freon elsewhere. He indicated they needed to do the whole job or nothing. To ensure there wasn't some crazy increase in Freon, I called other companies that confirmed $255.00 was nonsense. Out of curiosity, I asked Arturo what Anthem charged for a new AC unit, and he indicated between $8,500 and $9,500. Thus, it would make little sense for someone to pay $2,550.00 for Freon when a brand new unit could be purchased for around $8,500.00. It should be noted I never asked for an official estimate for a new AC unit. I was simply making a point that Anthem was charging way too much for Freon. I concluded my conversation with Arturo, after he indicated someone from Anthem would contact me when the metering device part was approved by AHS. Later that same day, I received an email from Anthem with an estimate for a new AC unit in the amount of $9,000.00. Again, I never requested an official estimate for a new AC unit. The following day, I received a call from Anthem to discuss having the metering device replaced and the Freon filled. I told the representative that $255.00 per pound of Freon was way overpriced. The representative indicated the Freon was now $145.00. I asked him why Arturo told me the cost was $255.00 with a grand total of $2,550.00. The representative's response did not make sense. When I inquired further and asked him to explain the dramatic drop in price and the fact AHS only provides a $10.00 per pound credit, the telephone call disconnected. I waited a couple of minutes for the representative to call me back, which met with negative results. You would expect the representative to call back immediately to continue the conversation. I then called Anthem and reached voicemail during business hours. I left a message. I never received a returned call, so I can only conclude when I asked for an explanation with the price difference, the representative discontinued the call. Five days later, I still have not received a call back from Anthem. I contacted a contractor outside of AHS to repair the AC. The contractor indicated the metering device was working, and the unit needed two pounds of Freon (not 10 pounds as Anthem claimed). The total cost for two pounds of Freon and the labor was $325.00. What a substantial difference! The AC is working perfectly now. I can imagine how some people, who are not familiar with these issues, could get sucked in to paying thousands of dollars. Based on this experience with Anthem, I obviously do not recommend them. If you have a home warranty service call, I suggest requesting a contractor other than Anthem Mechanical. read more

I purchased two (2) new systems and had them installed on November 25th and 26th. On the first day I noticed a loud sound coming from the furnace immediately after installation. On the second day, I informed the technicians of the issue. They assured me that the sound was normal. However, the noise persisted and progressively worsened. I contacted Anthem regarding the noise and a technician inspected the units early last week and informed me that a part was needed and that he would request the order be placed. By the end of the week the unit completely stopped working. Trying to get consistent help has been challenging. I've had to call multiple times repeating the same information to their automated assistant, Olivia. As my unit failed on a Saturday all the technicians were booked, and they were off on Sunday. Once I was able to get connected to a person, I was told an email would go to the GM and that I would be contacted first thing on Monday. She was able to connect me with the technician who identified the issue. He did offer a temporary solution to circulate heat from the downstairs unit to my second floor that was without heat -- I am not looking forward to my gas bill. I was expecting a call first thing Monday morning, instead, I've had to call multiple times to get through to a manager. Once I did connect with a manager, I was informed that this happens on these units and that there is nothing that can be done in terms of getting the part sooner due to the holiday. To add insult to injury the original date I was given for the replacement part changed from 12/26 to 1/6. I understand the impact of the holiday and closures; however, it is extremely frustrating as a consumer to make a significant investment such as a new HVAC system and have one unit fail within 30 days. I intentionally made this purchase to replace the older units in the home to avoid being without heat in the event the older units failed. I am now deeply concerned about the overall quality of the materials installed in my home and the challenge with receiving consistent customer service is frustrating. My issue is not resolved, but I felt it important to place the review in the event anyone is considering using this company. You may want to look elsewhere. read more

Anthem installed an air handler at our home. We also had a new condenser installed a year ago. Ever since then the home has not cooled properly. For two years I have been fighting with the home warranty company and Anthem. We finally got AHS to send out a 3rd party HVAC company to get an independent opinion. Well it turns out Anthem installed the air handler very very poorly. There were leaks in the air vents, the condensation lines were not installed correctly, the return vent line was too small, and the installation was inside out which caused the condensation to dip into the ceiling. What is even worse is Anthem would not stand behind their work. I would not recommend this company!!!! read more

Hey... These guys are good! Had them install a NEW, 4-Tonne 2-Stage A/C unit at my mother's place in Rancho Mirage. Installers were timely and even my mom noticed how conscientious these guys were in going about their business. They took real pride in their work. Seriously, just awesome work. Cleaned up afterwards too. Real Pros! If you are buying a new A/C, I would look no further. The whole team from managers to installers worked with me, answered all my questions (we had a lot, as there is now a family "committee" involved with my mom's decisions and everyone was satisfied). Warning: Avoid Anthem for AC Repairs My home warranty assigned Anthem to service my AC. The technician diagnosed the issue and assured me that their authorization department would send the diagnostic report to my home warranty company for coverage approval. Instead, Anthem informed my home warranty that they couldn't do the repair and transferred the assignment to another AC company in Palm Springs. Despite my numerous calls and attempts to get help, Anthem has been utterly unhelpful. It's infuriating that Anthem was paid to assess my AC and provide a repair report, yet they refused to give the diagnosis to my home warranty. Even with the home warranty customer service representative on the line, I called the technician who came to my home and said I needed a new blower motor. He accused me of blaming him for his office's failure to provide the correct information and then rudely hung up on me. Reflecting on the technician's visit, he mentioned that my home warranty would likely take forever to replace the part and suggested I could purchase a new furnace for $4200 if I didn't want to wait. Given the extreme heat, I was tempted, but my gut feeling told me something was shady. I decided to stick with the home warranty route, and now I truly believe Anthem didn't want to deal with it and made up an excuse. The repair has been transferred to a new AC company that has to start the process all over. Meanwhile, I'm on Day 3 without AC, and it's 110 degrees outside. NEVER trust Anthem. Their business practices are shady and unethical. P.S. Reading their responses to other reviews, it's clear they offer the same hollow apologies without taking any responsibility. Don't fall for it. In response to Anthem's excuse: I don't buy it at all. The tech never said anything about that in fact he spoke to you while he was there and I could hear you say there was no issue replacing a Lennox blower motor. And the home warranty company has assured me you have not shared with them what you're saying you did. Take responsibility for shady business principles. read more

I would not under any circumstances use Anthem Mechanical for your plumbing needs. Recently there is a family in my gated community who needed a new water heater in both their house and in the casita. The client is over 80 years old, and unfortunately did not call around for bids. Anthem charged them $6,000 for a tankless water heater, plus $2796 for a basic Bradford White Heater, totaling $8796 just for the equipment. We researched and received after the fact quotes for the same equipment from two different distributors ($1829 and $759). Anthem essentially over charged them for the equipment by a significant amount. In addition, they charged $2138 for labor. So in other words, they were paid almost $11,000 for two water heaters and installation. The individual who oversees the plumbing division in an employee named Nick who comes across as arrogant, cocky, and condescending. When the resident, and myself, called to question the charges, Nick totally ignored the documentation on the over charge and stated that everyone charges that much. I researched the website at the Better Business Bureau and discovered that Anthem Mechanical has numerous painfully detailed documented complaints lodged agains the company, and at the time of this writing a Star Rating of 1.6. If you research the site, you wonder how the owner Mike has time to respond to all the complaints, as they are not general in nature, they are well documented complaints. I would avoid Anthem Mechanical at all costs. read more

Seeing all of these bad reviews gave me the confidence to finally tell my story. I was overcharged by Anthem Mechanical on one of those tankless water heater boxes. After being charged over $5,200 for one, I decided to call another company in the area because a neighbor said that was high. The company I called felt that was probably at least $2,000 too high. My husband calmly called Anthem. A very nice lady (I forgot her name) transferred my husband to the manager named Nick. This has to be the same person other people have complained about. After giving my husband some nonsense about special labor and product margins, my husband wasn't having it. My husband said he wanted a partial refund. Nick became very condescending and said good luck finding a better price, this is what it costs. When my husband said another company said the charge was at least $2,000 too high, Nick said you were a happy customer then and signed the invoice and paid us. That's the price. Bad bad bad man. Why would Anthem want this person working there? Please avoid the company and if you make the mistake and use them don't talk to anyone with the name Nick. PS everyone - I wrote this because my husband would have been a lot more angry. I'm sure Yelp doesn't like cussing. read more

Anthem just cost us $900 plus 2 nights in a hotel due to THEIR error. They came out for routine warranty A/C maintenance. There was absolutely nothing wrong with our system. The tech told us we were low on Freon. So $300 later, Freon filled, and he was on his way. TWO DAYS LATER the system stopped cooling completely. Today, Gibson A/C came out to find the problem. No Freon. The Anthem tech had done something incorrectly and all of the Freon leaked out. On top of that, the valve was damaged. Gibson (who is amazing!) refilled the Freon, fixed the valve and another part that was also damaged. Our warranty will cover everything except the Freon. $600 in new Freon! $900 out of pocket all due to the shoddy work by Anthem. read more

Another Home Warranty Scammer.. I am a property manager and have dealt with just about every home warranty company, and they all seem to use vendors like this.. Avoid Anthem at all costs. After contacting first American for an HVAC service claim, the order was sent to Anthem. The claim is for a house in a senior community with temps (at the time) in the triple digits. The tech came out to the house and said the king valve needed to be replaced and that the part wasn't available and would take a few weeks to arrive. He said the cost for the part and labor was around $5K. I asked if it would just be cheaper to replace the condenser entirely (which includes a king valve,) and he said yes around $4K, but there may be other issues that he cannot diagnose without first replacing the king valve.. and that the warranty company will likely not authorize replacement. He went ahead and submitted his report to First American... I felt like something was fishy so I sent out an independent HVAC tech for a second opinion. After diagnosing the unit, he said it was low on freon needed a new capacitor and cleaning.. for a cost of $650. When I told him about Anthem's diagnoses, he just about fell over. First American won't do anything about it and Anthem of course is just here to make as much money off the Home Warranty company as possible, without any regard for the senior living in the home without AC during the middle of summer. read more

Was waiting over a week for another company to come and repair a broken drain pipe in my attic and I called my home warranty and complained so they contacted Anthem and they dispatched a technician the same day, Anthony was polite, knowledgeable, and repaired/ replaced the pipe and then tested the system. When I wrote this review, it was during the holiday, and I had a house full of people and HVAC issues. I was surprised that if they were closed , their phones didn't reflect that fact. EDITED review- This Company's technician called me to follow up on a quote that was 48% higher than the AC company I am going with for a part (fan motor & hard start kit). They were contracted by my home warranty company. I FIRED American Home Shield THEM FOR REFERRING ANTHEM The tech called me "BUDDY" and that I was on his "HIT LIST" - which is his term for getting back in touch with customers who have had a quote with Anthem but had not made a decision. Very offending and not professional with his words and pricing was terrible. Their quote was $875 for a fan motor (I paid $550) & a hard start kit which they priced at $570 ( I paid $135) TOTALING $ 685 vs $ $1425 I saw that out of 277 reviews, 118 are 1 star! Sorry BUDDY, but wont be using this company. I am amazed that the owner has time to reply to the 43% of people posting 1 star reviews. Absolutely horrible company that cares nothing but money. Last week, the weather here as all know was running as hot as 120 degrees when my A/C went out. I called my home warranty service (note that this warranty company, American Home Shield, is equally horrible) assigned my case to Anthem Mechanical. I reached out to them as soon as I got the assignment and left 3 different voice messages (none of them got answered because, and I found this out later, these people do not answer their phone, nor do they check voice message). After wasting a whole day, I got a text message (and this is the only mode they communicate without) saying they wouldn't be able to schedule me until the following Tuesday (that would be 4 days later). I texted back saying I needed a faster service. Their reply was that: if I want a faster service, I have to pay more money to come out earlier). In other words, they can schedule me earlier, but they want more money apart from the money they would be paid by the home warranty service. This is how they do their business. They don't care about providing service. They just want your money. I checked their reputation out here after the fact, and lo and behold, they certainly have been absolutely the worst service provider you can find around here. So, my advice, don't waste your money and effort. Avoid this company. It's a shame this company is still in business. P.S. Hey, Mike!! Here is the problem. My home warranty service wasted 3 days trying to confirm that your company is not coming out in order to assgn my ticket to different vendor. They allow 4 hours for your company to respond and wait for your reply. The problem? If you people ever return phone calls, this would have never happened. You people list phone number, but no one answers - only voice message. But then, no one checks voice messages, so what's your deal, huh? Why list a phone number you do NOT answer? Why put a message machine you do NOT check? Huh. Why not just say upfront you only reply to text message, huh? You see the problem. I have been without AC going on 3.5 weeks now, the first technician they sent, Andrew, flat out lied to us and told us there was nothing wrong with the coil line and that his instruments weren't telling him there was an issue. After repeatedly asking him to go look at it in the attic he pretended to unscrew the screws to the system by running his drill 4 times to unscrew and 4 times to screw back in....there are 8 screws you need to undo to look at the system. He then said the problem is the with unit outside and he needed to order 3 parts but that the system should run fine until he came back to install them. When time came for him to come install said parts a full week later, he called out sick and we were never notified as the tenant that our appointment had been pushed from friday to saturday and that a new tech would becoming in his place. By the time the new tech (who was perfectly knowledgeable and nice to work with) came to install the parts (we later found we didnt need because running the ac like we were told we could had burned out the compressor) we asked him to look up in the crawl space to see if there was in fact the coil. When he came down from the crawl space he showed us pictures of oil that had leaked everywhere from a dirty coil that there was no way the first tech could have missed that. Also the back and forth between anthem and the warranty company has taken so long that it is now been 101 degrees in my home for the last 2 weeks and I have not been able to live in it for just as long. Needless to say i would not recommend this company what so ever. read more

The office help is back to being horrible. It alone will make you regret doing business w them. I had a new unit installed in December 22. It never worked right so the replaced the air handler in the garage in October at nit even a year old. At that time I asked what kind of filter I needed to order for future maintenance. I was told not to touch it because they'd do it at the 6 month check up. So I call at 6 months asking when they are coming because it's running warmer than it's set at. They come, say everything is fine and charge $200 to replace filter. Unit continues to run to high. As you can see they don't read their own notes and on the phone they asked for a receipt to show the handler was replaced by them. Immediately I get this answer to assassinate my review w false information instead of doing ethical business As I said.....you'll most likely regret dealing w Anthem. If you get a whole new system that cannot make it but a couple months at a time in the summer you'll be still paying on it while hot and this office will attack you instead of fixing the equipment and charging you for labor. read more

If I could, I would give a zero. Has Anthem assigned by FAHW on 7/2. They came out quickly (which made me think they would be efficient) on 7/5 and diagnosed with my unit needing a new compressor. The HW approved and the part was ordered on 7/8. On 7/12 the part was picked up by Anthem and despite me texting/calling everyday to get an update and schedule the repair, it was radio silent. BTW no one ever answers the actual phone so you just have to leave messages and hope they call you back. Then tonight, 7/17, I finally get a call to schedule the repair and the soonest available is 8/1!!! That is 2 weeks in 100 degree temps with no AC in the house. These fools actually think this is acceptable. Never in all my life would I recommend them for any service. They obviously cannot manage their business and time management if 2 weeks the the soonest they can do a repair in the summer. Update- despite them saying no one has availability due to hot temperatures I am buying a new system and having it installed tomorrow WITHOUT using the home warranty or Anthem.
