on March 6, 2026 I was in Tijuana and scheduled the removal of five amalgam fillings. Everything seemed to go really well. Super friendly staff. Well organized. But one of the fillings the doctor pointed out on this screen. He said it's really a big filling, and really deep so it'll take longer. I guess he drilled too deep. Because four months later, it still hurts. Constantly. I guess he damaged the nerve a little bit and then covered it with the ceramic filling. It's basically in constant pain, and even worse when I'm chewing. When I called to talk to them about it, they said to come on down. Unfortunately, that's a whole plane flight away. I had many inlays and on layers and cavities done at American bio dental and a year and a half later several of them are broken and there's cavities underneath every single one. Trying to save money and Tijuana ended up costing me five root canals and spending twice as much or more back in the US to fix all the problems they caused never go here their quality is garbage. read more

I have such fear of dentists I get anxious and nauseous just at the thought of sitting in a chair with my mouth open. I have been a patient of American BioDental for about 6 years now. I found them after watching The Root Cause documentary and joining a biological dentistry group where members shared their experiences with root canals, unnecessary dental treatments, and the such. Just a couple of months ago I had my teeth taken care of by Dr Fabian and I experienced no pain or stress. He and his assistant made sure I was aware of what was going on and made me feel safe. I went to American Biodental Center in TJ on August 13, 2025 for a tooth extraction and bone graft/dental implant. Dr. Christopher performed the procedure. As part of the treatment plan, a sinus floor lift was to be completed. During the procedure, my sinus membrane was perforated. I was told this was "normal" and not to worry. What followed was far from normal! I developed a severe sinus infection that required more than 70 days of strong antibiotics which made my body weak. The infection did not resolve easily, and I ultimately had to seek care from a specialist in the United States to properly address the complication. This experience caused significant pain, stress, frustration and financial burden. I paid $2,500 for the original procedure and then spent hundreds more to correct the problem afterward. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this office. Patients deserve transparency, careful surgical technique, experienced dentists and appropriate follow-up when complications occur. We did our second trip to Biodental this past week and once again, we received excellent care. We had dental procedures, as well as, vitamin C IV's. I love this place because everything is self-contained in one location. We had excellent care (Dr. Muñoz is a magician and amazing care provider), hot tubbed the same day and went to Emma in the same building for an amazing dinner with the best oysters that had blue fin tuna on it. I definitely recommend staying in the Grand Hotel, it just made everything so easy. The prices are amazing, the holistic approach to dental care makes healing easier and almost pain free. Love it! I do not recommend American BioDental in Tijuana if you're seeking true biological dental care. I came here with my two adult daughters for what we hoped would be a holistic, patient-centered experience. While the staff was friendly, the overall experience was disappointing and felt more like a conventional dental office -- definitely not in line with what you'd expect from a biological dentist. Right off the bat, the dentists my daughters saw immediately recommended wisdom teeth extractions, which is rarely the first step for holistic providers. One of my daughters also had a small cavity, but they told us they couldn't fill it until after 4pm (our appointments were at 11, 12, and 1). I told them I had a 3pm appointment elsewhere and told them we'd have to come back. While my daughters were seen on time, I was left waiting. I was first pulled into a separate room to review pricing for my daughter's wisdom teeth. I asked several times when I'd be seen -- eventually I was told my dentist had gone to lunch. I was finally taken for x-rays at 2:30pm (1.5 hours after my scheduled time!) and then seen by the dentist. I shared concerns about TMJ and a previously broken jaw -- he was thorough and cleaned my teeth, but when I asked to review the x-rays together, he refused, saying, "There's someone else in that room right now." He told me he'd go over everything with the patient coordinator and she'd come get me in 15-20 minutes. I waited another 30 minutes, then told the front desk I had to leave. No one ever followed up. It took 15 more minutes just to check out because they had to burn x-rays to discs -- something that could have easily been done hours earlier. It's been two days and I still haven't received a follow-up call or email. To make matters worse, they quoted me $350 per wisdom tooth extraction, yet a friend told me his biological dentist in Tijuana only charges $200 per tooth. Friendly or not, I won't be returning -- and I recommend others do their research before trusting this clinic with their care. read more

Just returned from my first trip to American Biodental for six gum line fillings (upper, front teeth), and an inlay (lower back molar). Excellent experience! I saved a lot of money, and am so glad I went. I'm in my mid-60s and recently retired. This is the first time I've traveled abroad for dental work, or any kind of medical care. It certainly won't be the last! I highly recommend them. THE MONEY: I saved a total of about $1,500. Work that would have cost about $3,000 in US only cost about $480 there. Adding in airfare from the eastern US, plus two nights at the Grand Tijuana Hotel (where the clinic is located), plus meals, ended up costing about $1,500 total. That's a huge savings! THE WORK: I needed six gum line fillings due to gum recession across my front, top teeth. This area of my mouth is very visible. The dentist did an absolutely fabulous job color-matching my teeth, and did meticulous work. Even looking at them close up it's impossible to tell where the filling stops and the tooth starts. They look great! I also chose them because they are natural dentists (no mercury; bio-identical materials, etc.). This dentist also gave me excellent advice on changing some things in my own dental care routine to have less gum recession in the future. The advice makes complete sense and is much better advice than I've received from any U.S. dentist - including the bio-identical/natural dentist I've been going to for a couple years. The dentist I have here is quite good (had lots of work done there last year when I was still working and wouldn't have been able to travel). But American Biodental is better. Before going I did tons of research and found reviews both here, and on Reddit as well. A few other things: 1. In Mexico the dentists do the cleanings. They don't even have hygienists (not allowed by Mexican law). Cleaning cost: $35. Initial exam: $40. Panorama x-ray $35 (all USD). 2. They have a free shuttle to/from SAN San Diego airport (or to/from the park-n-ride on the US side of the border, or even from your home). 3. Everyone I worked with was bi-lingual and spoke English fluently. A few of the assistants only spoke Spanish, but that was never an issue since the dentist himself spoke great English. They have a total of seven dentists on staff. Their shuttle driver told me that people fly in from all over the globe to come there. I can see why. 4. While in the waiting room I chatted with about three people who have received all of their dental care at American Biodental for many years. They love it. I went here several times for different treatments and I wanted to provide a detailed review, mostly so people avoid this place for cavitation surgery. I went here as I was told I needed cavitation surgery and the reviews were decent. I first had a cavity filled, and that went fine. Dr. was nice and she provided good care throughout. The second procedure I had done was fixing a small chipped front tooth. This was done ok but the concerning thing here was that the Dentist noticed my other front tooth had a small chip on it and she proceeded to shave it down, without asking me. Thus leaving me with one front tooth a bit shorter than the other. I also had cavitation surgery here, which was horrible. I had 2 cavitations "removed" and the Dentist spoke in Spanish most of the procedure, and did not keep me informed, and spoke to everyone else in the room but me. I was not numb when he started this very invasive procedure and even though I told him this, I could still feel parts of the procedure. I still have pain from this surgery, which was 18 months ago. I also get swelling on this side and at times, a sore develops in my gum area. When I told the Dentist that I was still having pain during one of my checkups. he basically told me it was because I was old. Additionally this same Dentist told me I had a cavity and wanted to drill it. I told him that it was a stain and sure enough, he used a tool and removed the stain. If I didn't know it was a stain, he would have drilled. I did go back due to the concerns of swelling and when they took x-rays it was noticed that there was a lot of material, either roots or infection in one of the surgical areas. They offered to bring in another Dentist to repeat the procedure and although I do likely need to have this surgery re-done, I don't trust this place to handle it properly. They have a lovely article on their website about cavitation surgery and what it is, which would lead you to believe they know what they are doing. It has been over 11 years since I went to TJ to do my dental work. I have gone there for 3-4 times and have recommended Bio Dental to my friends and family. In the U.S. I was quoted over $14K to do my dental work! I paid less than 4K to do the same. Unfortunately, I heard today that they no longer take dental insurance, so I hope that they will be as reasonable as they were. The last time I went, I had all my amalgam removed. I stayed at the hotel they recommended in the same building to make sure my work had been completed and that their were no issues BEFORE I left Tijuana. That's always the safest way to handle any surgical procedures as you don't know about pain/swelling/bleeding...etc. I did well. The staff is pleasant and wait times are longer than expected. People come in from all over the world, so it's not unusual to expect the wait time when you go which can last 30 minutes to hours depending on the patient load for the day. They also wait to have everyone leaving to the boarder on the same trip..so that can mean waiting until the last pt is done while you go visit T.J. Every single person I talked to (in waiting room) couldn't speak more highly of their work. Make sure the materials used are to your liking and get an estimate in writing. read more

We traveled down to this dentistry from San Diego, recommended by many whom desire a more holistic experience and are seeking more affordable health care. We were thoroughly impressed with our experience from start to finish. We opted to take the shuttle both directions as we were told the drivers know how to navigate the traffic best. It all went smoothly and we bypassed many lines. They took us directly to the front steps of the plaza. We were with a group of other Americans who had traveled from all over just to receive care, which spoke volumes. The dentistry was clean, welcoming and not sterile, which I am typically used to when entering a doctors office. The staff were informative, attentive, and it felt like a family style business, where customers needs were prioritized. We spent the full day as we were new guests, initially starting with exam & cleaning, where they provided us a full report of the care recommended. I appreciated the transparency, unlike US dentistry, revealing that I had 8 small cavities. I had the option to pick and choose the treatment I was desiring to move forward with. They disclosed all costs up front and recommended treatment for more pressing issues. I never felt pressured, but I did ask many questions. I was impressed with the offices ability to get us in same day for specific treatments we decided to move forward with, since we had traveled a distance. Attached to the office is Dr. John Bergman's chiropractic clinic, which I've heard many amazing things about. He works miracles in his clinic and has an intimate relationship with the dentistry, offering fully holistic care. I had several fillings as well as my wisdom teeth extractions done at this dentist. They use a holistic approach and are very knowledgeable. Everyone in the office speaks both Spanish and English. If you are in the US San Diego side of the border, they will send a shuttle to pick you up and take you across the border to the office and then afterwards they will also drive you back across. I felt very safe and the office itself was very nice. Everyone that worked there was kind and understanding of my anxiety (fear of dental work). When they take the X-rays and do your consultation, they have a large video screen where they show you your teeth in real time. They are very honest and take good care of you. I'm actually in recovery from my wisdom teeth extraction as I'm typing this. One thing to keep in mind however, is because they are holistic, they do not do root canals. There is a chiropractor in the same office who is equally amazing. [ Dr. Bergman, D.C ] This place cares about your health and will do everything in their power to restore health to you. They use the Huggins protocol for mercury removal and make bridges on site. They won't break your pocketbook and stand behind their work. I will never go anywhere else. I have put much thought into this review. I am posting not to criticize, but to inform. 1)The client needs to know ahead of time what holistic dentistry means at this clinic. Research is critical. 2) The communication between client and staff is poor. This is not due to a language barrier. We received multiple, conflicting answers to our questions. 3) Holistic dentistry at BioDental means no metal in the mouth, period. This is a direct quote from the clinic manager. You will not get posts, bridges, implants etc. at this clinic. They specialize in pulling teeth that have had root canaIs and cleaning the open spaces and underlying bone. They will also remove and replace metal fillings with non-metal material. 4) Dentures and partial dentures are the replacement solution for pulled "root canal" teeth. 5) Please research "cavitation surgery" before you go. It may not be what you think it is. Our story: My husband needed bridge work done. An upper and lower bridge had fallen out. BioDental was recommended by a friend. When I called to make the appointment, I was told they could fix the bridges. As it turned out he received cavitation surgery on a rear upper and lower jaw. Then he was offered dentures after the incisions healed. I know now that my husband had major jaw surgery. He was given naproxen for pain afterward. While in the waiting room he began to go into shock because of pain. Thankfully I have emergency medical background and recognized what was happening. I requested hydration and pain medicine for him. He first was offered oral naproxen again. Eventually he was given was given 1000cc of (Homers solution) ringers lactate. He was finally given tramadol and zofran IV. He also vomited a copious amount of blood that he had swallowed during surgery into a clinic toilet. But this is not the end. We were told the stitches would dissolve in 5 to 7 days. After a month we were able to see another dentist. When he removed the stitches he said they were unfamiliar to him and did not look like the dissolving type. The gum was already growing into them. A small jagged piece of white plastic fell out of the wound after the stitches came out. The next day at home a smaller sharp object fell out. Our experience was painful and traumatic. I have had phone and email conversations with BioDental trying to figure out what happened. They were always respectful and polite. They requested I send the smaller shard to them which I did. We drove and parked in San Ysidro, and their van picked us up and delivered us to the office. It was so easy! They take you back across too! It turns out their dentists are all up on the latest holistic methods. I had extraction, ozone, PRP, sedation, a Vitamin C drip and a partial installed in one visit. This is a holistic dental office. They along with me don't think metal filings are good, due to the effects of mercury and aluminum in the body, so they move metal filing, all of them. If you want a traditional dentist, then you won't appreciate this place, but if you don't want metal in your face, this could be the place for you. They also will not perform root canals because root canals don't entirely remove the periodontal ligament which prevents a mouth from being able to heal all the way. Most root canal procedures end up with chronic infections in their mouths years later, so they will not do a root canal procedure. These guys are used to fixing the mistakes of traditional western dentistry, with actual innovative technologies like ozone and prp therapy which should be more available in medical environments in the US, but they are not. BEWARE...My experience with this dental office was HORRIFIC and TRAUMATIZING. I came here to have my amalgam fillings removed. The dentist spent most of his time flirting with the dental hygenist he was extremely unskilled and had to repeat the process of cementing multiple times and never did get it right. His solution was to grind the crown down to a nub. They removed a bridge that did not need to be removed and replaced it with an inferior one that did not fit right and now has to be removed and replaced again causing more trauma to that area. Upon trying to numb my mouth twice he it a nerve that sent fire through my face and I believe caused nerve damage because the other dentist they passed me off to was unable to numb me after that. There was a lot of pressure to have work done it felt a little like being at a time share presentation. I was so traumatized by my experience that I avoided going to the dentist for quite some time. I highly suggest that you do yourself a huge favor and simply spend the money state side, with a dentist you know you can trust because in the long run it will cost you dearly. I went to American Biodental with one missing tooth and ended up with two missing teeth as a result of their services. Their staff are disrespectful to blatantly abusive. I have evidence their "mistake" was intentional. I was seen by dentist Erika for a bridge. As a courtesy, I informed her that I understand Spanish. At the appointment to cement the bridge, she brought in a dental student and started to talk about me to him in Spanish, detailing how I had been assaulted and raped by another dentist. Understandably, this upset me, and I reminded her I speak Spanish and am a paying customer, not a free-of-charge case study in trauma. Instead of apologizing, Erika got an attitude like I should be grateful for her disrespect. She then cemented the bridge incorrectly, causing the "death" of a perfectly healthy tooth, as documented later by an endodontist. The only option I was offered was to have the front anchoring tooth extracted and a permanent, removable partial denture. As I attempted to work with the practice on this issue, they repeatedly lied to me and withheld information. When I returned for a follow-up appointment, dentist MaryCarmen was two hours late for my appointment. I was offered a sedative, which would not have been needed had my appointment happened on time. Extraction of the tooth was performed without a treatment plan, and without my consent. Coordinator Javier entered the room and demanded I have some unnecessary IV infusion that made me sick previously. He bullied and threatened me for several few minutes. In spite of these events, I continued to try to work with American Biodental and scheduled a meeting to negotiate a refund of the money I spent originally for the bridge. At this meeting, Javier was intentionally psychologically abusive to me, making statements like "I don't like your attitude", "Don't you dare raise your voice to me", and "Stop being manipulative." Eventually, he offered me half of the original price of the service for the bridge, which indicates he and his superiors know that they are responsible for the damage to me. This amount is not sufficient to cover my damages. I ended the meeting at that time because Javier was continually abusive throughout, and it was, at this time, evident to me that American Biodental was actually invested in harassing and abusing me. read more

I had 4 fillings done here back in 2018, one of which the tooth cracked a year later, the others have held up so far. I was unimpressed with the facility and the equipment as well as the skill of the gentlemen performing the work. He had a very shaky hand and seemed very nervous when I questioned the shaking hand, which only made the issue worse. They are indeed a biological based practice and had fair prices, but I wouldn't advise getting any lead removed here based upon the extensive research I have done and comparing that to the equipment they had at the time for this procedure. I had eval/X-ray, several mercury amalgams removed, a 20 year old infected root canal extracted, cleaning along with iv vit c / Iv immunity with DMSO. In 1 day. With ease. Pain was controlled with the meds they provided and subsided after a few days- week. Comfortable pick up from the border. The DMSO really helped my joints. My husband and I just got all the silver out of our mouths (6 for him and a root canal, 2 for me) for 1/5 the price it would have been in USA. Both our dentists were incredible, all information was clearly described to us and all questions answered. The waiting room was spacious, comfortable, peaceful, and the other occupants were friendly! Attached to the bio-dental is the American Holistic Care which offers many treatments for cancer and other diseases. They are allowed to actually practice medicine, where in the US doctors are being taught at schools owned and run by big pharma, and so are only learning to prescribe synthetic medications, chemo, radiation, etc. Our personal preference is always the Holistic approach, so for both medical and dental this is our number 1 choice! read more

This place was recommended. They were very nice. They have a driver that picks people up on the American side, then delivers them back. They were very honest, have beautiful crystals in their waiting room, I had to have full mouth reconstruction, wanted root canals, not having my teeth pulled, and saw a bad review about full mouth reconstruction so went elsewhere. I do recommend that it is much faster and easier to just park at the border, and walk across .. get an uber or taxi, much faster ( a 10 minute walk across honestly, as opposed to 2 hours or more in traffic at the border). This is our second trip to American Bio-Dental Center in Tijuana. I had my silver/mercury fillings replaced and Jonathan had a molar extracted. They don't do implants here (they don't believe in metals) so we'll go elsewhere for that. We had Vitamin C IV drips during our treatment. Pain free and professional. The center also offers medical services like dermatology, holistic, anti-aging, and wellness care, blood analysis, and much more. Just call and ask and they will set you up. Great one-stop shop. Next time, I'll get some moles removed. I love that they pick you up on the American side at the Border Crossing Parking Lot. After, we shop at the Las Americanas Outlet Mall and eat (if we can) at the Seafood cart. read more

One of my back teeth had a giant hole in it (from where a filling had fallen out). I couldn't afford to get it fixed for three years. During that time I started being chronically ill, fatigued, depressed and feeling just awful in general. I finally went in to see an American dentist who quoted me $1000 to get a root canal. I knew that this tooth just needed to come out of my mouth. I heard about American Bio Dental through a friend who used them to get all her mercury fillings out. I drove down with a friend and stayed the night in the Grand Hotel. The next day I had 8 hours worth of dental work done ( this is what happens when you don't see a dentist for 10 years). Dr. Felipe + his dental assistant were amazing. They took extreme care to make sure I was comfortable. I got two inlays + multiple cavities fixed + they pulled my rotten tooth + sent me off with a denture. I feel so much better now. My energy levels are incredible + I feel like a new person. I'm also super vigilant about my teeth now, as I'd rather NOT ever have to sit in a dentist chair for 8 hours, even if the dentist is a great one. I had such a great experience, and the level of work I got done at ABD is beyond good. I will continue to visit them as my primary dentist. read more
