I had such an amazing experience at Dr. Alvarez's office in Mexico--honestly better than any dental care I've received in California. I came in to get my wisdom teeth removed along with an overlay, and I was pretty nervous at first, but the entire team made me feel so comfortable and taken care of. I requested to be fully knocked out for the procedure, which I couldn't recommend more with someone who has anxiety going to the dentist. In total for a full exam, x ray, cleaning, wisdom teeth removal, and overlay, I paid $1500. Dr. Lopez is incredibly knowledgeable and truly impressive--he took the time to explain everything in a way that made me feel confident and at ease. You can tell he's extremely skilled and genuinely cares about his patients. The procedures went smoothly, and the quality of work exceeded all my expectations. The clinic itself is clean, professional, and very well run. I was honestly blown away by how much better the overall experience was compared to dentists I've been to in California--not just in terms of cost, but especially the level of care and expertise. I cannot speak highly enough about Dental Alvarez. Over the course of four visits they installed three implants and two crowns. They impressed me from the very beginning with a clean, well-appointed office, state of the art technology, and courteous and professional interaction. Dental Alvarez was recommended to me by a friend who grew up in Tijuana. She has been coming here for 20 years. She's kind of... particular. If she recommends a place, it has to be top of the line and spotlessly clean. I have an American dentist, and low key they kind of suck. They have all the tech, the 3-d crown printers and scanners and everything, but they're expensive, impersonal, keep me waiting and the two crowns they did for me failed and needed to be redone after a year. So I looked to Mexico for dental treatment. Dental Alvarez has all the high tech equipment that you'd find in an elite dental office. Their standards meet or surpass anything you'd find in the US. And their staff is so kind and considerate. Everyone - the schedulers, the front desk girls, the hygienists, assistants, dentists, dental surgeons have gone above and beyond for me. Even the maintenance guy acted as my personal chauffeur. That's probably a perk they don't offer standard, but I fractured my ankle on an uneven sidewalk in another part of TJ, and the staff stepped up for me the whole time I was recovering. Also, I speak almost no Spanish, but everyone on staff speaks at least a little English, and many are completely fluent. This happened few years back (2022). I live in CA. As many I crossed the border to get an emergency dentist & more affordable one. They had to do a root canal & put a crown on me. They put a zirconia one. Cost $800. As normal in Mexico you pay as they do the work. By the time you go to the last visit you have to have paid everything. Well when they finished the work I felt discomfort & they said it was normal. A week later the crown came out. I called the Alvarez Dental & they told me to go back so they could put it back. I did. It took me 4 hours to cross back to the US. Then days after it came out again then I went back again & they put it back. Then days after it came out again for the 3rd time. I never went back. I couldn't be crossing every other day to TJ with the 2+ hour minimum crossing traffic to come back. I just realized I was scammed. Also keep in mind that the discomfort never went away. I stayed without a crown all this time-almost 3 years. Fast forward 1/2025, I was able to do it here in the US. I explained to my dentist that knows me since the 1990s the whole situation and he told me that the only thing that he could think of is that Alvarez dental used a low quality cement. That there was no reason why a crown could have come off 3x in less than 2 weeks. So now I'm happy with the work that my dentist did. In summary, I used to trust Dental Alvarez cuz my family go there -or used to-but after that I experience I don't. I rather do it here in the US or at least try other dentists in TJ, which I'm sure that there are PLENTY of honest, great & qualified that don't cheat their patients. read more

We were recommended to this dentist by god friend that have been going here for years. After our American dentist told us that my husband and I would need over $12,000 of dental work, we looked into coming down from Northern California to Tijuana. The initial communication between Bianca at Dental Alvarez was fantastic and thorough. They gave an idea of what it would cost for the procedures the American dentist said we needed. We were very impressed with the office and the staff. We each got our own Dr that has stayed with us to complete each procedure needed. My husband had a couple teeth they needed puking and then implants, 4 crowns and more. I was told by the dentist in California that I needed a root canal and crown on my back molar that had cracked. Dr. Oracio said I only needed an inlay, which was $300. No root canal needed. The office has state of the art imaging and they have really taken good care of us. We felt heard by them and my doctor was super caring and gentle. I never felt any pain and he was very sensitive to notice and ask how I was doing at all times. Both of us really like our doctors. As far as coming down to Tijuana, the office is in a very safe area. We park on the American side and walk across. Since we live 8 hours away, we have found that staying at the Grand Hotel Tijuana works great, and it's a nice place. You can get great prices on booking.com for the hotel. The dentist office will pick you up at the border or the hotel and we just have the driver, Augustine, a tip. We will be back again to finish more dental work needed and we are very happy to have found Dental Alvarez. read more

If you can find a reliable and friendly U.S. dentist and the only factor is cost, consider that it is not just about better service, and quality, it's about convenience and your peace of mind. You may want a dentist that is "cheap" considering U.S. dentists charge up to $1000 for a crown but there are other factors involved when considering the true cost of dental work. Dental Alvarez has one or two nice people who try to offer exceptional service but overall it's a budget business designed to attract unwitting U.S. clients through relatively low prices. Call around TJ and you will find that most dentists speak fluent English, have a majority U.S. clients, and take insurance. With Dental Alvarez, be aware: The person you contact prior to your appointment may not be the one you interact with when you arrive. We were told they take insurance but when it came time to pay we were told we don't take that insurance anymore. The lady who quoted us prices over the phone was friendly, but the receptionist who primarily deals with billing and the "shuttle" service once you are there is unhelpful, rude and cold. The "shuttle" service is unreliable. Be prepared to take an Uber if you are walking across the border. The "shuttle" is a small personal vehicle that fits a driver, a front seat passenger, and a tight fit for two in the back. They over book the driver and the front desk team suffers from very poor communication. I attempted to use the service six times (three trips back and forth) and have been told, the driver has gone home for the day, or the driver is running personal errands and I had to order an Uber. In one instance he did not show for 40 minutes and the receptionist lied about it over the phone claiming he was at the border to pick me up. When I spoke with another staff member, he said the driver was at the office dropping off other passengers. The receptionist also lied and said the driver could not use his phone while driving and then proceeded to call him while he was driving. Also, you may be asked to share a ride or drive in circles for a while looking for another client. Add $50 to any quote for exam and x-rays. You will be up sold. They will create a treatment plan and tell you that since you traveled all that way you might as well get another service. It makes sense. We went in to save $500 on a $1000 crown and wound up paying over $1000 for two crowns, and an inlay. One way or another the money is getting spent. Plan for it. They overbook and appointment times are estimated. You should not arrive late. But the dentist can be late in seeing you. Waiting is the norm. In one instance I waited an hour for my appointment. The two year guarantee is another way of saying no refunds, no price adjustments, no matter what. Even if the work is terrible. And as nice as my dentist was, the work was shoddy. My temp crown fell off after two days. My permanent inlay fell out after three days. I had to return twice and he tried to charge me extra for work done "under warranty." Walking across San Ysidro back to the U.S. will take at least 60 minutes. Driving even longer. Download BWT app for wait times. Otay will be shorter but this dentist doesn't offer pickup or drop off there. Shot out to the one young man at the front who wanted to help, clearing seeing how terrible service was. Unfortunately, the older woman at the front was more concerned about charging $5 for an Uber ride than making things right with a returning customer. Bottom line: there are many great dentists in TJ. GREAT DENTAL OFFICE! I live in Palm Springs but drive to Dental Alvarez in TJ for all major work. Not only great pricing but state of the art equipment (more modern technology than my U.S. dentist). I needed two molar implants, and in the U.S. it was $6,800 PER TOOTH, and my "insurance" only covered $2,000 per tooth, so I would have still paid $9,600 out of pocket. A friend had gone to Dental Alvarez a few years ago and raved about them, so I traveled down to see them--$1,800 PER IMPLANT! And again, more advanced equipment than in the U.S. Even though it took 3 visits for my implants still sooo worth it. And the doctors and staff are all great. They are less than 2 miles from the border crossing, and they have car service so you can just walk across and they'll pick you up, and then return you after your visit. (And parking right at the border is $10 for the day.) Implants, root canals, crowns--whatever you need that you'd have to mortgage your house for in the U.S., call DENTAL ALVAREZ! I came to this dentist for a general clean, I asked if I was able to get retainers and my dentist said yes for $100. I was excited to get permanent retainers for my bottom teeth due to being tired of wearing invisalign every night. Little did I know I was being scammed. I should of known when my dentist finished putting my retainer on and finished saying "you still have to wear your retainers". I should of known because 1. He didn't even measure my retainer to see if it would fit around my teeth with his wire and glue he put on my teeth. So now I have crooked bottom teeth because this dentist did not do his job. Since my last review I have returned multiple times for my own follow up dental work - but also brought both my daughters to have all wisdom teeth removed. Again, the care was outstanding - and in one daughter's case, her work insurance covered all costs. For the other who does not have dental insurance she paid less than a quarter the best cost quoted in LA - so well worth the trip. A couple of weeks ago I went with my mom to Alvarez dental to get her two root canals and crowns taken care of. She flew from Sacramento to LA where we drove to San Diego, parked in long term parking and crossed the border by foot. It was our first time doing this. It was a whole journey to get to the dentist but it was all worth it. She had made an appointment the day prior to going there and Bianca (The Patient Coordinator) was helpful in giving her all the information she needed before embarking on the trip. The prices for dental work in the US are absurdly high and so we found a great option in Dental Alvarez, not just because of their more reasonable pricing but they have a lab where they can make crowns in house. Although the prices are low, the quality of work that was performed was top notch. The way they treated my mother was wonderful especially since she came from so far away and was obviously nervous about what to expect. Doctor Sanchez and Doctor Estrada made her experience a pleasant one. Although root canals are not fun, she was very happy and at ease under their care. They even assisted us with our hotel accommodation and getting us an Uber to take us back to the border. Their staff was very nice and mindful of keeping everyone safe while we are still in pandemic mode. Their three story building has everything you would ever need for all your dental needs. They have state of the art equipment and specialists on staff that do it all. I also met my namesake Mr. Alvarez and he seems like a very nice person. The office was very clean and had a good peaceful environment in the waiting area. The two root canals were performed the same day on my mom and the following day they put the two crowns on. During a little less than 48 hours in Tijuana in the care of Dental Alvarez, we can say that we now have a great dentist to come back to and recommend for anyone that has any need for quality and reasonably priced dental work. I was referred to this dental office by a family member and decided to bring my mom for a tooth issue she was having for a few weeks. My mom was the one who made the phone call and explained her situation and was told she needed to come in for an evaluation with the specialist "Dr Alvarez". So the day finally came and after a 3hr drive we arrived at the office and to our surprise Dr Alvarez was not available to see her (strike#1), mind you, we were told Dr Alvarez would be the one to give his opinion as to what needed to be done. Anywho, they told mom they would do the x-rays and deep cleaning and on her next visit dr Alvarez would see the x-rays and examine her. So we scheduled the second visit to return in three weeks. As we arrived we were told Dr Alvarez was not available (strike#2). My mom was told that another specialist would be examining her and would give his opinion on what needed to be done. During this time, my mom was told she needed three (3) fillings and was recommend she get this done, so she agreed and so they began to work on her. When it was time to pay, my mom was charged for nine (9) fillings. When she questioned the charges, the receptionist tolo d that the dr wrote down nine fillings not three, this receptionist had to idea what was done only what was submitted to him by the dr. My mom was completely numbed from ears, cheek, tongue and lips from the anesthesia and just wanted to home so she paid for the the 9 fillings and not the 3 she was told since the dr was no longer in the office. The third visit was scheduled for a Monday morning and on the Saturday prior my mom called to confirmed the appointment and asked if the specialist would be there to take care of the issue she was having on her tooth. The receptionist told mom not to worry that everything was already set for Monday morning. So the day came and we arrived to the office and again to our surprise the specialist dr Alvarez was not available (strike#3) at this point i lost it and i told them off, i couldn't believe this was happening to my mom knowing that we were making the drive from L.A. At first sight this office appeared to be a well organized dental office but they are far from that, the lack of attention, lack of communication between them is by far the worse ive seen in T.J. this office is not worth the drive and money you pay. There are so many other offices that operate much better with way less personnel at a lower cost. I hope this office begins to change these horrible practices or else they will be going out if business soon. If i could give zero stars i would. The reason we all go to get dental work done in Tijuana is the low cost and good service. Driving there is inconvenient and takes a lot of time, but it's worth the money we pay provide they work on the correct tooth. I went with a complain that I was getting food stuck between two teeth on the upper left side. The dentist checked my teeth, took x ray, got an impression for a crown. I left there with a temporary. A few weeks later I was back to have the permanent crown placed. I left the clinic and went back to San Diego. As soon as I ate the food got stuck on my teeth as if absolutely nothing was done, I was confused because I saw the dentist doing his work. I went all way back to Tijuana and after some back and forth examination among dentists they found out that the dentist had worked on the wrong tooth. Can you believe it??? Will be getting my tooth fixes somewhere else. read more

We had an amazing experience at Dental Alvarez, Dr Cardenas was amazing with my 9 year old who needed a root canal. She was super nervous and crying because we had a bad experience at the super dentist. He won her trust in a couple of minutes. Explained every single step to her and was super patient.
