My wife took me here on our first trip to New York almost 20 years ago and we went on our most recent trip. You know that feeling when you have such great memories of a place and you worry they have changed and it will be ruined? Don't worry about that here. Such a great experience - everything from the staff, food, and ambiance were all above my expectations! We had a party of 10 and there was plenty of space for the group and very easy to book! We did the family style appetizers which were delicious and came with so much food. We also ordered some pizzas and pasta to share and were stuffed at the end! We asked them to put a candle in dessert for our friend's birthday and were surprised with the whole wait staff coming to sing happy birthday in Italian! What a treat! In the middle of dinner, there was an opera singer at the back of the restaurant which gave us authentic Italian vibes. We went to Il Cortile for a birthday dinner. The restaurant itself was pretty big, though the tables were sat close together. Our waiter was nice, but he didn't check on us very often. We weren't ready to order right away and then he didn't come back for a little while. We had an earlier dinner reservation so it was pretty dead when we walked in but then it got busier. I would not recommend the sangria- it was too sweet for me. I would stick with a cocktail or glass of wine. The pasta was good! We all enjoyed our food. I've been to this restaurant three times now, and this was unfortunately my first bad experience. My friend and I were seated in the back of the restaurant around 6 PM, and I asked my waiter if I could try two small sips- one of Pinot Grigio and one of Sauvignon Blanc- so I could decide which glass I'd like to order. Instead of simply saying yes or no, he repeatedly questioned me. He asked which one I'd rather try, and when I said both, he asked whether I preferred a dry or fruity wine. I explained that I wanted to taste both so I could decide. He then asked if I'd tried either before. I told him I'd had Pinot Grigio but not Sauvignon Blanc. I found this especially confusing because every restaurant carries different bottles and producers, so even if I've had a Pinot Grigio before, that doesn't mean I'll like the specific one they serve. That's exactly why I wanted to taste both before ordering a full glass. Despite all of that, he only brought the Sauvignon Blanc. I didn't like it, and when he came back and asked how it was, I told him I wasn't a fan. I then asked if I could try the Pinot Grigio before ordering it, and he responded by shaking his head with an attitude. It came across as rude and unprofessional. After that, he largely ignored my friend and me while continuing to serve the tables around us. We waited long enough that I eventually had to ask a busser if someone could come take our order. What made the whole situation frustrating is that it ended up creating more work than simply bringing two small tastes in the first place. I would have left, but my friend had already received her drink and we had already received our appetizer. The food was good as always, which is why I'm giving more than one star, but the service completely overshadowed the experience. I've always enjoyed coming here, so it was really disappointing to be treated this way. read more

I was so excited to finally dine here, but the quality has gone downhill :( The food is that the service is still very friendly and warm. The courtyard in the back is also stunning still and makes for a wonderful experience or date spot. I ordered 2 of the pastas, including the seafood pasta, arancini, and a bruschetta and it was all disappointing. I love pasta but it tasted quite bland, so I barely ate it. I came here for a work dinner, and WOWZA the decor was on point! Having a meal in a little Italy is always a treat, but especially during Christmas time! I honestly have no complaints whatsoever. The service was great, and the staff was very attentive to our table (we had a group of about 12), and the food was delish. Nona herself would be so proud! I tried a few of the appetizers, but my favorite was the Burrata (unsurprisingly, it was amazing and some of the best I've had). I had built my own pasta dish and ordered the cappellini with vodka sauce and chicken. It was definitely an interesting choice, as capellini is not the go-to for vodka sauce because it does not hold the sauce as well as something like penne, but I experimented and I wasn't disappointed! On a lovely Saturday night last Spring my two friends from out of town and I went to Little Italy. We decided on this restaurant by walking around and seeing it. Glad we did. We were greeted and seated outside since the weather was permitting. Our service was outstanding. We had several wait staff checking in on us. Restaurant had a moderate amount of patrons while we dined. We started with wine and then moved on to appetizers. My favorite was the Zucchini Fritti. Shoestring cut zucchini in a lite batter and deep fried. YUM! Salads had fresh ingredients and were presented in a lovely manner. One friend ordered the Sunday Sauce entree and it looked simply amazing. I could see the slow-cooked sauce had a rich flavor and the oversized portion was well appreciated. After dinner we were too full for dessert. We did not spend time inside the restaurant but I did make a trip downstairs to the ladies room. Fairly clean but I felt a bit like I was in a dungeon. There was no decorum and not a warm welcoming feeling to it. Little Italy has many restaurants to try that I am sure are well worth it. I would say Il Cortile is one of them. read more

She immediately asked the waiter to remove the plate because she had lost her appetite and did not want anything else. What was most disappointing was the lack of response from management. The service here was horrible. Our reservation was at 6:45, and we were not seated until after 8:00 pm, only after finding management and complaining that we still had not been seated. After we were seated, our waiter told us they were slammed and that we needed to order right away, even though we had not opened the menu or ordered drinks yet. We ordered a bottle of wine, and he told us it was sold out and that we needed to choose a more expensive option. Other tables around us were served bread, but we were not until we flagged down a busser and asked. About 30 to 45 minutes later, the server asked what we ordered because the printer broke and our order had not been placed. The food was a B+. After finishing our meal and receiving a box for our leftovers, it took over 30 minutes to get the check. I want to note that the bussers were hustling, and I very much appreciated them. I've been wanting to try this Italian restaurant for awhile. The interior decor was elegant and beautiful with colorful flower displays, lovely looking statues, and indoor garden room area, complete with exposed brick, plenty of greenery and florals. The space also had some festive touches for the holidays. We were served a complimentary bread basket consisting of bread sticks, bread with sesame seeds, along with regular bread. The bread was soft and fluffy, and quite good with the addition of some butter. For my meal, I ordered the Pork Chop, which was grilled and served in garlic with olive oil sauce. I requested it to be served with a side of roasted potatoes. That pork chop was cooked absolutely perfectly and was a wonderful shade of brown. The meat was tender, delightfully juicy, slightly charred, and well seasoned. The potatoes were also tasty and flavorful. Dessert was spumoni gelato covered in chocolate and I also got to try the homemade Italian cheesecake. I preferred the Spumoni, which was layered pistachio, cherry, and chocolate ice cream covered in a chocolate shell. The ice cream was velvety smooth, sweet, and the chocolate surrounding it was rich and paired well with the ice cream. The Italian cheesecake was just okay. I wasn't a huge fan of the ricotta and texture, however I did enjoy the crust, which I found to be so yummy and addicting! Service was very good. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Everything came out in a timely manner and we were well taken care throughout our meal here. What a magical and charming evening we spent at this beautiful restaurant. We were sat at a lovely table in the middle of the cozy space and were attended by a great group of wait staff. Prices are reasonable, especially for a highly popular location. Ambience is nice and restaurant is clean and well maintained. Patrons are there celebrating special occasions and having fun with friends and family. My only criticism is that I wanted a glass of Pino Noir, and I found that it's not offered.
