Dining at Casa D'Angelos is truly a wonderful experience. This restaurant is in Little Italy and from the moment you are greeted at the door, you are immersed in an authentic Italian dinner. Attentive, knowledgeable waitstaff, and the delicately prepared calimari was the best I've have ever had. The burrata and eggplant caponade was also noteworthy and melt in your mouth delicious. There is a deft hand in the kitchen, as our main courses proved even more impressive than the appetizers. i opted for the veal Parmesan and it did not disappoint. But the star of the table was the Carbonara, I was with a friend whose father is from Palermo. She said Casa D'Angelos has the best Carbonara in NYC, says it's the best she's ever had, and she's eaten it in Palermo! I should note, that the portions are huge and the limoncello divine. We were there for a birthday dinner and the staff was wonderful. Our glasses were never empty and the food spectacular. the prices are very reasonable for the quality and the amount of food served. We visited Casa D'Angelo and ordered a four-cheese pizza. Unfortunately, we were not big fans of it. My kids usually love pizza, but they barely touched it because the crust was very dark and tasted burned. I understand that some wood-fired pizzas are meant to have a bit of char, but this one seemed overcooked for our taste. On the positive side, the staff was friendly and attentive. We appreciated the complimentary fresh hot bread and a cold bottle of water, which was especially welcome on a hot day. The highlight of our visit was watching the chefs prepare dishes with fire and live cooking techniques. The guests at the table next to us ordered lobster and pasta, and it was fun to watch the chefs in action. My personal experience outside of the rest of my group was a decent lunch. The chicken parm was good. The pasta was a bit on the al dente side, I would have preferred it cooked an extra minute personally. The sauce could have been a little more rich additionally. Not a bad meal at all though, but definitely Manhattan tourist pricing. Hugo Spritz was tasty! Would the convenience fee be waived had I paid cash? It wasn't explained, just added on the bill. One of my table mates had an issue with their meal, and the restaurant did solve it professionally, so credit to them. Food came out super fast. Disappointing return to Mulberry Street at Casa D'Angelo I was super excited to visit New York and go back to Little Italy on Mulberry Street. I saw the original Angelo's had reopened as Casa D'Angelo, but I left very disappointed. The bread was excellent -- that was the highlight. Unfortunately, the rest didn't hold up. The spadini, which used to be one of my favorites, was three times as thick as it should've been and raw in the center. The spicy vodka rigatoni had no flavor and the pasta was mushy, the veal parmesan was just fair, and the spaghetti was halfway decent. I was so let down that I didn't even stay for dessert. I was craving my favorite pasta, Cacio e Pepe, and out of the several Italian restaurants recommended in Little Italy, Casa D'Angelo does it the right way, which is with Pecorino Romano Cheese, not Parmegianno (Parmesan). That's the way I've had it everywhere in Rome where Cacio e Pepe originated from. Cacio e Pepe is spaghetti-style pasta with black pepper and Pecorino cheese, and it is a wonderful, deceptively simple dish . The black pepper is what brings that spicy bite to the salty hard cheese to tingle the taste buds. Every bite is a delight here! Don't bother paying a lot more for this pasta from a cheese wheel like in a few places nearby, especially if it's a Parmesan cheese wheel. You pay a whole lot more and the pasta becomes overly cheesy and you lose the peppery nature of it. Stick with the traditional way of enjoying Cacio e Pepe. The restaurant is a very classic Italian restaurant. The only slight knock is while I love the olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette, the toasted bread was a bit on the hard side. read more

Burrata : This is an amazing appetizer for vegetarians. Burrata was very fresh and flavorful. The base is chopped and cooked eggplant and sautéed with some vegetables. I think it's possibly because of what I ordered and not the food itself. I did enjoy the house wine that was very affordable. The free bread was also delicious. For appetizer, my friend and I shared the burrata, definitely a must have. I ordered the rigatoni alle polpette, very good but wished it came with more meatballs, only came with two. We came to celebrate my Aunt Daisy's birthday and were seated immediately at a lovely table with a beautiful view of the diners outside. The lighting and ambiance were perfect. Our head server, Salvador, was outstanding--he explained the specials in detail and helped us choose the perfect wine. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. We started with baked clams in a lemony sauce--so good we couldn't even stop to take a picture. I had the Osso Buco served with a light pasta; it was tender and full of flavor. My sister ordered the ribeye with pasta prepared tableside--absolutely fantastic. Aunt Daisy and Nelly both had the shrimp scampi, and there wasn't a morsel left on their plates. The bread with dipping oil was irresistible--so good that we probably ate too much of it, leaving me unable to finish my entrée (but happily taking the rest home for lunch tomorrow). We had meatballs and mozzarella for appetizers (the mozzarella is huge) and both were delicious. Our entrees were pepperoni pizza, fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp, spaghetti with meat sauce and meatballs, and two cheese wheel pastas with truffles. We came across this place while walking through little Italy and they caught us with the fresh pasta made in a cheese wheel. It did not disappoint. The atmosphere was absolutely fantastic. My date and I had already decided to eat here but as we walked over, a man outside started waving at us and pointing at the restaurant, which solidified our decision to eat there. We really appreciated his work ethic and it elevated our experience. The server was incredibly helpful and food did not take long to come out at all. He even helped us out with the glaring sun by opening the awning they have outside of the restaurant. When we forgot to alert the kitchen of an allergy, our waiter assured us that it would not be a problem to switch out the plate, and my date's replacement meal came out when my plate was still hot! We got a 9:30pm reservation because we booked the day before. We arrived probably just in time and they sat us immediately. A group of 10 of us (including kids). The waiter, Edwardo, was wonderful! He kept checking on whenever we were ready to order with food and drinks. We started calling out his name, and he was completely fine with it because after 2 hours, we were all family. The only reason I am giving this low stars is to draw attention to something to be aware of. This is the story: The waiter greeted us and told us the specials. As many servers do, in some restaurants he did not give prices after the specials. I have always felt uncomfortable asking for prices after they have told us the specials. So I didn't ask. My bad. But judging by the prices on the menu I assumed that the pasta with truffle would be about $10-15 more than the other pasta entrees. When we got our bill (for two people) it was over $200. The special was $65. My husband's entree was $24. $65 for a pasta dish (granted they make it in front of you and it is amazing) is still a lot of money to have as a surprise on your check at the end of your meal. I was apprehensive when we decided to eat here after being snagged by the guy outside (is that Italian accent really real or a show for tourists?...) but he said they had gluten free pasta and that's what we were looking for so in we went (note: he did clarify that their regular pasta is made in house, while the gluten free substitute was purchased. Fair enough.). While it wasn't the best meal we've had this week, it was still very good. Avoid the bread - we were starving after walking all day so ate it, but it's stale and needed to be soaked in olive oil to be edible. Definitely get the fried zucchini, which we had as an appetizer. It's lightly breaded and not mushy - it was my favorite part of the meal, along with the limoncello martini. I would advise getting a pasta over pizza - my son got a pizza and it was pretty mediocre. But both pastas were fabulous! I ordered the tortellini with mushrooms and prosciutto and it did not disappoint! My other son ordered a gluten free version of Creste do Gallo and very much enjoyed it. It does feel a little over priced, but it's NYC so I guess that's to be expected. read more

What a cozy place to have dinner at! Of course we got dragged in by one of the gentlemen at the door who was heavily flirting with my boyfriend's little sister and she made us eat there for dinner before we travelled out. Happy we did try it tho because it was really good. I am born in Rome and grew up eating the best carbonara. I have yet to find a place that makes it exactly like I grew up with BUT this place definitely comes close. I loved my Carbonara, the sauce was rich, perfect amount of guanciale. If you want to stick with a classic dish, this will do it for you. My boyfriend tried the shrimp scampi and that was the best dish on our table by far. While I loved my carbonara, the lemon sauce and the fresh shrimp really blended together for a tasty, refreshing and delicious dish. Everyone at the table kept stealing pasta from his plate. That's how you know it was good. My boyfriend's sister tried the lobster ravioli and she liked it but nothing special. Now everytime we go to Europe we always get Hugo's. Not sure why everyone is obsessed with Aperol Spritz when Hugo exists. It's the most refreshing and easy to pair with pasta drink you can get. Great experience overall! read more
