I didn't realize you could find fajitas in Dallas under $10 until I went to Amigos. This place reminds me of the Mexican food restaurants I went to with parents when I was a kid - the food was cheap, the drinks were strong, and the waitstaff is entirely Latino and friendly. Amigos has different menus for different meals. We went early-ish on a Sunday, so we were given the brunch menu. I was impressed to see Mimosas on the menu for $2.50. They had the original Mimosa, strawberry Mimosas, watermelon Mimosas, and many other flavors. The chips and salsa were good. We also ordered a queso dip, which was made with a white cheese, and it was very good. Sigurd and I split an order of beef Fajitas and the order filled us both up with strips of meat to spare. The tortillas looked like they had just been made on the stove in the back. While the fajitas were pretty good. I've had better, but not for $9.25. Plus it came with guac, rice and beans, and they gave us a free mini gordita. Apparently the mini gordita comes with every meal at no added charge, and yes, it was good. The decor is primarily Mexican tiles on the floor, a cedar-like wood on the walls, and different colored star lights hanging from the ceiling. They also have a TV hanging on the back wall that was playing ESPN, so you can keep up with what's happening in sports. While I wasn't blown away by the food, the price was right: for queso, 1 order of fajitas, and 3 Mimosas, our bill ended up being about $20. Not bad at all, Amigos. read more

I have been in town visiting family and took my uncle here one night and loved it. Food and drinks were great, queso and quac was wonderful and they kept COVID top of mind with masks and space between tables. Been coming here for years since it's in my old neighborhood,and the patio has good view of the sunset. I like the people here and the old-school neighborhood vibe. Fernando is my favorite waiter, he is a true pure soul. I like to come Mondays for "mellow me time"and Margarita happy hour. Food is your average Tex-Mex fare, and if I'm trying to be healthy I'll get a salad with grilled salmon. Just saw some shrimp fajitas come out that looked mighty enticing. They say no substitutions but I always change things up to stay on the healthy side without much trouble or extra add-on fees,although they can totally charge extra for substitutions . I'm just special! Same family ownership of Frankie's and Frankie's place although all the menus differ a bit. Haven't made it to mama Casa but another sibling opened that restaurant in Plano a few years back. This place is all about neighborhood, meeting up after work,family, and regulars. A perpetual fiending for chips and salsa is something I've wrestled with all my life; it gets in the way of personal relationships, taking care of small animals, and brushing my teeth. So, passing the quaint patio of Amigos in the warm evening hours was too much to bear, and I yanked the wheel sharply, wagering life and limb on the delicate balance between tomato and jalapeno. "Outside, woman!" I pronounced when striding through the door. They knew I meant business. I amused myself as I munched on sweet, sweet chips and salsa (not literally sweet, mind you) by listening to a cowboy-hatted girl recounting her sexual exploits. The salsa had decent heat behind it and a rich roasted-tomato flavor that is surprisingly hard to find in many salsas. The menu has a lot of stuff on it, and almost everything looks good. I ordered a sandwich filled with pork, chorizo, cheese, lettuce, and tomato. The bread was dipped in a guajillo sauce, which, while delicious, immediately got into my hair and behind my ears. I got two meals out of this beast, and at $8-ish, it was a very good deal. My girlfriend got the pulled pork tacos, and they were pleasantly fragrant, moist, and flavorful. A word of warning: I glanced at the drink section of the menu and saw that margaritas were only $2.75, which caused a tear of joy to course down my cheek. After compulsively ordering one, I realized that the prices were for happy hour only, and, upon receipt of the check, my wallet was dealt the massive damage of $6.75. Ouch. Other than that little bit of unpleasantness, I had a good time and ate some good food, and I can't really ask more than that. I love eating at Friends... I mean Amigos. This is the best as Tex-Mex gets in my honest opinion. I prefer interior Mexican food but I will go here with my family because I like it that much. This place is blown up with people every single night and it's a disaster on the weekends. When they are busy, they are BUSY. Waiting for service can be a pain but I can deal with it because the food is good. The chips and salsa are a hit or miss. Sometimes you'll get a batch of hot chips that are nice and crisp and sometimes when it's incredibly busy, you'll get a batch of warm stale chips. Don't let that deter you though, filling up on chips will leave you struggling to finish their delicious meals later. I have tried their mole enchiladas, "Pollo Gordo" (stuffed chicken breasts topped with a sauce), and their brisket tacos. Everything so far has been memorable and leaves me wanting more. My brother said he tried mole once and never wanted it again. When he tried my mole enchiladas, he said he was willing to give mole another chance. It was nicely spiced and had a pleasant taste. The stuffed chicken was brilliant. I'm not sure how much Tex-Mex this represents but I am willing to order it again. The brisket tacos are reminiscent of street tacos with beef strips and cheese. It was incredibly flavorful and quite tender. The sides of rice and beans are slightly above average. Aside from having a friendly server, they make a mighty good mojito. On top of that they offer many vegetarian platters including tamales! So you vegetarians have options outside of veggie fajitas. Great Lunch Place! I tried out Amigos the other day for an office lunch - I liked it. Not particularly by the food, but by the prices and the amount of food we got for under $10. The best way I would sum it up is $8.25 for anything you want. The aback do enchiladas were amazing, as was the tortilla soup. It is small, not too busy, decorated kind of cutesy, with spicy salsa that I thoroughly enjoyed. The only downside was the tiny salsa cups (the small stainless steel ramekins many places serve ranch in). However, I had them bring me out a few extra, so it was okay. I also loved how timely it was. Literally, we were in and out in well under an hour - which is great when you want to have a quick lunch without letting your inbox run away from you on a busy day. In a place where great Tex-Mex thrives and there is no room to be average, this place is my absolute favorite! Several years ago I had several friends who swore by this place, having so many great things to say about it I had to try it. It is very unassuming when you come in and the menu had a good variety but was not overwhelming like most Tex-Mex places. Since I first went, they have adapted to their popularity by adding to their dining area almost doubling how many people can be seated. Luckily the service and food did not suffer one bit, it is still as great as ever. It is very efficient as you can easily get and eat your meal in under an hour, no matter time of the day it is. My favorite thing to get here is the queso dip which is nothing short of amazing. I never come here without getting it and since the food usually comes out quickly I am able to add some to my entree. Since my coworkers like this place, I have been here a few times, and have had a few dishes: Chips and salsa: 3 stars. Just ok for for both. Food: 3 stars. The first time I was here, I ordered the Caldo de Rez since this place seemed to be more of a Mexican joint than Tex-Mex, but I gotta say, it was very bland. Caldo is supposed to be rich in flavor, but this was not. If I were just going off of that, the place might get two stars. The tacos barely meet 3 star standards. The enchiladas definitely meet 3 star standards, but not quite 4 stars. A co-worker of mine ordered the Mexican Lasagna, and I must say, other than looking like it was 2,000 calories (too many tortillas), it looked quite tasty! Maybe I will get that next time. Service: Hit or miss. I've had exceptional service and poor service, but I'll give it 3 stars. Conclusion: just an average Mexican restaurant. It saddens me to say that my once-favorite restaurant has definitely gone down over the years. That's not to say that the food isn't still pretty good, and that the happy hour margaritas aren't still worth the trip over. I think my problem is I've been spoiled. I went there so often when they first opened, that I came to expect the dishes to taste the same forever. They have changed cooks since then, and the flavor is no longer the same. Again, compared to On the Border or Gloria's I definitely still prefer Amigo's! One thing I will say is that depending on which owner is there, your experience with the service will be vastly different. With one of the owners, I have been ignored, they have forgotten to bring my appetizers, and they have not checked in once my meal starts. With the other owner, service is usually pretty excellent. Found this place through yelp. It had great reviews so off we went to try it and LOVED it!!! The white queso is super creamy and the chips, extra crunchy a win win in my book! Gotta love the local businesses! It's kind of a hole-in-the-wall and doesn't look like much from the parking lot, but you should absolutely give it a try. Food here is great and service has been nice and quick each of the 6-7 times we've been. Prices are outstanding ($5 for a full meal in Dallas? yes please.) And the portions are quite generous too. The employees are really friendly and eager to help each other out - if your salsa dish is getting shallow and your server is at another table, somebody else comes by in a flash to refill it. Really lends itself to great overall service. Chips are thick and never greasy and the salsa and guac are delicious. Queso is just alright, but with the salsa being so good we rarely order it. Menu recommendations: Frittatas, cheese enchiladas, lunch fajitas (big portion for 8 bucks!) And of course, happy hour margaritas. This was the definition of "fine" for me. Not bad, not great. Probably closer to 3.5 stars, to be fair. Amigos doesn't look like much from the outside. They have a strip mall location with a decent sized patio, which didn't seem to be in use during our visit (though it was about 98 degrees outside so this could be why...). They have done a good job of eliminating the "I'm in a strip mall" feel on the inside. Decor is hacienda-esque. The restaurant was basically empty when we arrived for an early dinner- just one other table of diners were present. The host sat us at a small table for two DIRECTLY next to the other table of patrons. A little weird, but ok, whatever. My immediate first impression after being seated? This was one of the most uncomfortable chairs I have ever encountered in a restaurant, and my fiancee's chair was wobbly/rickety (it was subsequently replaced by our waiter). Weird start, but not passing judgment at this point. Our waiter was friendly and attentive, bordering on slightly overly-obtrusive. We were immediately served fresh, hot chips and salsa. The chips were very good, and the salsa was "pretty good", with a mild tomato base. I ordered the Mexican Lasagna, and my fiancee ordered the Agustin's Special (cheese enchiladas topped with beef fajita strips). Before our dinner came out, we were each served a strange little "appetizer", which basically consisted of a single round tortilla chip covered with beans, sour cream, lettuce, and salsa. I picked up my little "nacho", and...a very small gnat-like bug crawled out from underneath it. Ehhhhhhhhhhh. I know, I know, this can happen anywhere...but, ehhhhhhhhh. *Trying to forget, trying to move forward, trying to forget* Dinner came out rather quickly. My Mexican Lasagna was, again, "pretty good". It consisted of layers of soft corn tortilla stuffed with chicken, pinto beans, corn, and cheese, garnished with pico de gallo, and plated atop a creamy verde sauce, which was quite tasty. There were a few pieces of chicken in my "lasagna" that tasted very burnt. I kept wishing that this entree came with some sort of a side dish. A guacamole salad, rice and beans, tortilla soup, something, anything? "Agustin's Special" consisted of two enchiladas topped with a very thick, creamy queso blanco type sauce, topped with beef fajita strips. The menu identified the sauce as a jalapeno cheese sauce, but it really didn't taste like jalapenos. Regardless, my fiancee said he really enjoyed this dish. I had a bite, and I thought the fajita meat was a bit chewy/dry...and the cheese sauce was too salty for my palate. At the recommendation of fellow Yelpers, we shared a flan for dessert. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. This wasn't my favorite flan. My other half loved it- it was a little too "firm" for me, or something, I dunno. Our check for two soft drinks, two entrees, and one dessert was $32 before tip. I guess I would come back here and try something different, especially because my fiancee really enjoyed his meal. I ordered the sour cream chicken enchiladas meal. I was a bit surprised when my order arrived. I wasn't used to seeing that type of sauce on my enchiladas. Usually the sauce is creamy and very cheesy. This was all sour cream. Nevertheless I decided to be adventurous and dig in. To my surprise it was tasty! At first I thought it was kinda bland but after the second bite I really started to enjoy my meal. The salsa is really spicy but when I added it to my enchiladas it made it taste even better! I cleaned my plate! My meal came with rice and beans. The beans were better than most Tex-mex places and the rice was average. The service was very quick which is great for a Friday evening!! I had the chicken enchiladas with the Chipotle sauce. The Chipotle sauce was a very light cream sauce with a good flavor of smoky chipotle. I highly recommend the dish. The chicken was a slow-cooked pulled chicken and very tender. The beans and rice were fine. I did not notice the flavor of smoky lard in the beans that I enjoy so much, but the enchiladas were so nice I did not care. read more

Don't get ripped off. Took my family for happy hour until 7 and dinner. We ordered a round of cocktails during happy hour. Then we ordered dinner. While eating our waitress asked if we wanted another round of drinks and we looked at our clock. It was 6:50. Well, she took forever to bring our cocktails. When my bill arrived, they charged us full price for our second round of cocktails. They said it was put into their POS at 7:02 so it was full price and refused to change it. Then we heard people behind us complaining about the same thing. No wonder the place was empty. They held our drink order until after 7 to charge everyone full price. Scamming people. I've been to this restaurant many many times. In fact, my brother's rehearsal dinner was held at this restaurant. Enjoyable food. I love the food. Everyone seems to have one thing or the other that they swear is the BEST dish ever. For some, enchiladas. For some, it's the flan (though I don't care for it -- still, this might have something to do with the fact that I'm not a fan of flan to begin with). Plan on slow service, especially during peak times (like Friday nights). Everyone is nice and friendly. My biggest complaint (which is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5) is the waitstaff. All of the waiters are super nice and friendly, but service is slow. I don't think this is necessarily the fault of the waiters. In fact, I just wonder if they keep it short-staffed to help save money. I saw another reviewer complain that the chairs are uncomfortable. Yes. I must agree. It's not enough to make me take points off the overall review, but still, they aren't super comfy. Hard seat, straight back. Disappointed. I have heard only great things of this place for years. Maybe it was because it was a to-go order but it was my first time trying it. The order consisted of sour cream enchiladas and beef enchiladas. Honestly both I and my boyfriend thought it was pretty bland. They gave us a full bag of tortilla chips and enough salsa for two chips. Sooooo skimpy on the salsa, but that hardly mattered because the chips were so stale we almost broke our teeth. After reading all the rave reviews here on Yelp, I eagerly went there to finally try it last night. The PROS : reasonable menu prices and great Happy Hr prices. The CONS : average, bland, typical, run-of-the mill Mexican fare you would find at On The Border, or Taco Cabana ! If Amigos ordered the weather yesterday that we were able to enjoy outside on the patio for brunch they would deserve 6 stars. I live a few blocks away and typically come here for dinner. They have an excellent happy hour that lasts until 7. On Sunday it's happy hour all day. The pleasant surprise was the diversity in the menu. I had the Amigos skillet, which had potatoes, chorizo, cheese, peppers and topped with two basted eggs. These are like soft cooked over easy eggs and they were done perfectly. Topped with a bit of jalapeno. Husband had huevos, con papas y chorizo. They brought us some spicy salsa that was served hot and it was delicious. Good, friendly service. Attended a work event and they were absolutely not prepared for us whatsoever. Turned out whoever took the reservation did not pass it on and the cooks were not ready for about 60 of us. They had a room for us, but no servers brought drinks. You had to go to bar and get water and soda. They began setting up the buffet style line for us. The fajitas were just horrible. The chicken fajitas were so dry and the beef were chewy. I had also grabbed a tablet from my car and saw they had wifi. I asked for the password and the host went to get it from the manager and she comes back and says they do not have wifi, although it came up on the wifi list. I would have rather been told it is not for public use than to tell me they do not have wifi. The over all experience was a bad one and the food was not anything to talk about. I REALLY wanted to like this place but it's... Different. I appreciate that it isn't like every other tex-Mex place out there but... It was just not for me! I had the queso which was white and wierd.
