This is our first time to this restaurant and the food is fantastic! I went on a date with my husband and I ordered the spinach tamales and he ordered the beef fajitas. Everyone wants to be the next New York Times food critic on these guys. 'The beans could use a touch of jicama, and a sprinkle of anise on the amuse bouche would really set the plate off'. But let's be real here. This is a mom and pop operation. Also known as a real live restaurant. You won't get the '10 steps of service' you've come to expect at Chili's, but you also won't have a soul sucking experience eating a pre-fab meal that is as uninspired as it is ethically, nutritionally, and creatively bankrupt. What you will get is food that was prepared by a human being earning a living by making some darn good Mexican food. Not every dish is a winner, but the mashed potato brisket enchiladas will re-wire your brain. The tacos are amazing. All of them. The margarita is probably the best you will ever have. And that tostada thing they bring, it's not amuse bouche. I know you think it is, because it loosely fits that definition, but what it actually is is a freaking tostada with beans and lettuce on it. The food can take a while, so they bring you a chip thingy. Because family doesn't let family go hungry. It holds the hunger off for the 15 minutes it takes to get your plate on the table. Because this is a real live actual restaurant, they treat you a lot like family, and a lot less like a potential secret-shopper. If they forget something, or screwed it up, tell them, and they will make it right. A lot of your experience in a restaurant depends on you. More of it than you would think. The Mc-Chains littering our roads do everything they can to hide this from you. Real live actual restaurants involve a bit of a reality check, and a bit of user participation (hint: read the menu, they have some really creative entrees). And speaking of 'checks' when you're full, happy, and working on a solid tequila buzz, they will bring the check, and you will tell them they forgot to charge you for something because it's too low. And you will be wrong. It's not that it's cheap, it's that you're not paying overhead for 390 locations in 37 states and 3 countries. Go. Eat. Enjoy. And relax, it's just food. Been coming here for a few months now and am never disappointed. The cheap drinks seem to offset the fact that the food in all its diversity, on the average is only so-so. The service, however, is excellent. The staff, including the owner, is always kind and attentive. I've tried several things on the menu, and so far, the pork tacos are my favorite. They are very moist and flavorful, and served in the traditional manner with onions and cilantro. The salsa is also very tasty and definitely homemade. My friend swears that the brisket enchiladas are out of this world, but the portion is HUGE. So that's a good option if you are super hungry or would like something to take home for later. I would highly recommend that you try this place for weekend brunch. The drink specials continue (bellinis, mimosas, bloody Mary's) and the menu is quite nice. They make this one dish with poached eggs, spinach, and hollandaise, among other things. It is incredibly good and not like anything you will find on any other brunch menu. Went for the first time and ordered Caldo de Res to go. Looked promising. I was told to take a seat at any table because the Bar area was all full. Then I was asked to move so they could sit other customers- rude! Don't tell me to sit then ask me to move- I am a paying customer too! I don't know what took them so long to get my order anyways because it's just soup they have since the morning, it's not made to order. I tried canceling my order but they insisted "it was almost ready". Sure enough they came out with a bag. When I got back to work it wasn't caldo de res, it looked like tortilla soup. There is no protein in the "soup" just tortilla strips and vegetables. It was the first and last time I go there. No wonder they haven't gotten an award since 2009. Good food, reasonably priced. I had the steak fajitas and the meat was really well seasoned and tender. Their flan is really good too. Service was great. Not sure how this place gets such high ratings. I think it must be the staff. The staff are very nice and the restaurant a strong neighborhood vibe. The staff seems to know many regulars and they are very friendly. The problem with this place is that the food is not good. I have been here several times over the years. The food is consistently bad. The hot sauce is bland. The chips were very crunchy and stale tasting. I went with a party of five and was able to sample many menu items. The fajita nachos were packet with flavorless dry chicken and fatty chewy greasy beef. I couldn't eat them. The enchiladas were also lacking. The queso was chalky tasting. Strike three. I frequent Amigos a lot. They have great service which has drawn a large number of regular customers. Their margaritas are very tasty and strong enough to give you a good buzz. We were excited to find this restaurant due to the reviews. The chips and queso were yummy. My hubby had enchiladas and he thought they were great! I had veggie enchiladas with sour cream and they were just okay. I thought the rice and beans were gross. The rice was real tomatoey which I do not like and the refried beans were like runny pinto beans. We went at 4 pm and it was not really busy and the service was terrible. Such as the silverware coming several minutes after the food, after we asked. The coffee was cold by the time she finally brought me the cream. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. The waitress moved around like she was carrying a weight. We might try one more time, maybe it was an off day. read more

We love Amigo's and go there several times per week sometimes. The margaritas are definitely worth the trip and the happy hour prices are very affordable. THEY MUST GET WI-FI!! However, I think that since we are there so often, we are taking for granted on occassion in the form of slower service, but we are given a table very fast every time. The salsa and queso are always fantastic, but a few of my favorites have changed over the years and aren't as good as they used to be. The beef fajitas used to be amazing, now they are just ok. Don't be dissuaded by the surrounding area which is dumpy. This place is clean and quaint and very good. Pallada fajitas were great and we loved the queso blanco. I never leave bad reviews as I always have something positive to say about places I go. So here goes the one positive thing-the chips were delicious and our server who was new was excellent for how busy it was. Now I would give it zero stars if I could as we had the most ridiculous experience. It was very busy and we decided to sit outside. After sitting there awhile we were able to order and decided to get it to go because it was so busy and had drinks while we waited. We paid for our food and waited for them to bring it out. They messed up my friends enchiladas but they came out immediately. After waiting 30 minutes we did not get our other orders. Half our party left while the others waited on our food. After an hour and half of sitting there they finally got their food because they couldn't leave as we already paid. Before they brought the food we asked for our money back for the items that were not yet out there. After arguing with the manager he stated he could give us $20 of our total $70 bill as he stated it was our responsibility and we should have not have given our waitress our cards before we got our food. We never asked for tickets-she brought them to us to pay and took them as any food waitress would. He refused to refund our cards because he closed out our tickets. The only thing he would offer is $20 out of his Pocket and me sure we knew it was out of his pocket. We still did not have all our food at this point and the other is now cold food b cause our orders were still not complete after an 1 1/2. This could have all been fixed if he was more accommodating and not blamed the customer as the initial complaint was just the food wait but now turned into a huge ordeal. Stay away from this place if you want an arrogant manager and staff that don't know how to provide customer service. read more

Amigo's is a solid 4 to 4.5 star Mexican (Tex-Mex) restaurant. Food is consistently very good to excellent, as is the service, after a dozen+ visits. The appetizers, Tex-Mex selections, and house specials are all very strong. The Ribeye fajitas are absolutely top shelf ... well worth the slightly higher price than the standard skirt steak fajitas. LOVE this place!!! So sad we don't live as close anymore. We use to go at least once a week. Amazing mango margaritas and even more amazing happy hour prices!! ($4) Plus they actually put liquor in their margaritas. I know what a concept right? But i feel like a lot of places have started serving the premix frozen machine kind with not kick or flavor. I have NEVER need to drink more than two margaritas from here before I'm really buzzed- like glad my husbands driving me home buzzed. Seriously strong but not at the expense of great taste. The food is also amazing! Their white queso is still the best we've had anywhere. Meal prices are cheap compared to chains like "On the Border" but are still plentiful and tasty. I had high hopes for Amigos based on recommendations from some friends. I was disappointed with my first and what will be my only visit. The service wasn't terrible. In fact the waiter was solid. The food was incredibly underwhelming. The rice and beans was sub par compared to most tex-mex restaurants in the DFW area. If you can't present a decent rice-bean plate, we're off to a rough start. I had the brisket tacos while my girlfriend had the sour cream chicken enchiladas. Both lacked any flavor and were incredibly mediocre. To say the least i could live without eating here ever again. My husband and I have been here a few times now and although service is not always the best, you cannot beat the food. For us this is closer to true Mexican food. They have Tex-Mex on the menu as well but it is nice to know that I don't have to order the Tex-Mex. I can order REAL authentic Mexican food. I was here a few months ago with my daughter for a late lunch. She ordered enchiladas. When they came out, there was a hair on one of the enchiladas. When the waiter came to ask how things were, she told him about the hair and asked him to bring her an enchilada (one enchilada) to replace it. The manager came over and told her that it was NOT a hair and did not replace the enchilada (one enchilada). Whatever happened to the customer is always right?? We will not be going back. read more

I used to live nearby Amigos, so I would eat there at least once a week, The food was pretty good at the time. Good enough to return week to week, but certainly not the best by any means. Tolerable would be a good word. In any case, I hadn't been there in quite a while, because I moved back to Dallas. I happened to be in the neighborhood and hungry, so I stopped in for bite. What a disappointment. The salsa is so hot with chili, I almost choked. I ordered "Amigo Enchiladas", which have shredded beef instead of ground. The plate came out and as the server stated, it was indeed very hot, indicating that the entire meal was not fresh, rather reheated in some sort of thermonuclear device. The sauce on the enchiladas was ladled on thick and had cooked to the plate during the radiation treatment. The enchilada was so tough, I couldn't cut off a bite. When I did manage to gain some ground and get a fork full to my mouth, it tasted bland and chewy. I will not be back for a repeat. Please do not waste your time and money eating here. After a long week I was craving a cold beer and some fish tacos. My roomate had wanted to try Amigos and since it had 4 stars we went for it. The wait was long, but since it was a Friday night I can understand. Once seated it took FOREVER for someone to ask us if we wanted a drink. Our draft beers came out in a manner expected of a Friday night. Ahhh beer! But when I tell you it took a LOOONG time before our server Jose came back to take our order, I mean it was a looooong time! Like "I want to get up and leave" long. The queso was great.... super creamy with a little heat. The queso earned one star. After forever and a day our dishes came out. My fish taco was a fish burrito. I have never met a fish taco I havent LOVED until now. I had a few bites and had to call it a day. Fishy fish (and I love tilapia), no cilantro or yummy sauce, and some orange tinted buritto roll made for a very disappointing burrito... or what they called a taco. The beans were fair but I was so disappointed I couldnt enjoy them. Maybe because my waiter was lost, never checked on us, didnt replenish our drinks... and didnt seem to care that my rice had frozen veggies (green bean, those perfectly cubed carrots and peas) in it. Really! authentic? mmmm NO. The veggies were not even cooked though. My roomate asked for to-go boxes. They gave us two mini ones. My rice and beans fit in one. She was gracious enough to house my burrito with her left over food since it wouldnt fit in mine. The bus boy came and asked if he could clear our plates. I was excited until he took the chip bowl away... as I was clearly crunching on chips! ??? really???? we didnt even have our check yet. We didnt get our check for a few decades. Seriously I think the colors of the leaves changed and Santa Claus came while we waited. I finally got Jose's attention and he brought us our check. I wish he would have asked how our meal was! I would never eat here again. Service was AWFUL as was the food. Ticked that I wasted my time and money here. read more

There are several reasons this little restaurant stands out. The menu is not typical Tex-Mex fare, but does offer those choices. The prices are very reasonable (presentation for this price level is surprisingly good as well). Its a relative secret to all except those from Richardson. And above all its good food with some very original menu items. The wait staff is very attentive. I have eaten at this place at least 20 times and we have had poor service maybe once or twice. Stand outs are the Sopes, Spinach Tamales, Chipotle Enchiladas, Brisket Enchiladas...I could go on. Brunch rocks as well, especially the Bobs Enchiladas- which is two Chicken Chipotle Enchiladas topped with two eggs. Super yum. The atmosphere is actually really nice and the patio is cool as well. The customer base is very loyal here and prime times can be busy with occasional waits. My wife forces me to come here at least once a month even though we live 16 miles away. read more

Have been here numerous times and was one of my favorites. However due to service issues over the last few times not any more. Last Sunday at about 3pm we went for a late lunch. The owner manager was dithering around trying to seat a large party. The restaurant was not busy and it still took him a long time with one of the party finally getting it done. We still waited while he then went to visit other guests before finally deciding to seat us. We then had to wait for quite a while for our drink order to be taken and even longer for the food order (a different person each time) Our food arrived in a timely manner but no one checked to see how it was or if we were alright, I had to flag a waiter down to get a drink refill. There was one poor guy bussing tables, delivering food and taking care of things the other waiters and manager should have been doing. We also had to wait quite a while for our check. If you want relatively good food and a reasonable price this is for you If you want good service stay away it has gone way down since I started going quite a few years ago. read more

Not any more. We were at Amigos the day it opened and have been loyal customers until the last year or so, when something has happened to completely change both the atmosphere and quality. First, they changed the tables and chairs out so it looks like a cafeteria, and second, the owners that we knew are no longer there each day and the managers appear to be incompetent. Just today, we placed a to go order, since we can no longer stand to actually eat at the restaurant for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the furniture, we got home to find that they did not include our side of rice and beans, and that there were no beans in any of the entree orders. When we called, the guy argued with us and then said that they actually were out of beans, which he knew when we picked them up--but apparently thought he would not tell us so we would just be surprised when we got home. Anyway, we used to love this place but no more. PS the Chipoltle sauce, which was the best thing they made, has completely changed, and so the original chef must have left and taken the recipe with him--just guessing. read more
