Beautiful aesthetic adds to the delightful dining experience. There is a large inside dining area bedecked with ME tasteful flare and an outdoor patio as well. Ava, our server, was a ray of sunshine and helped with recommendations since we were first timers. I've read the reviews comparing Ammatoli to Open Sesame and we've been long time fans of the latter. Being a part time HB resident for work, I want to see for myself and be able to weigh in on the conversation. Both ME options are better than what we have locally in Ventura. Both businesses feature extremely flavorful menu choices and top notch presentation and service. For the food: we started with the mint lemonade- can't go wrong there. It was so refreshing on a sunny day. For our first course, we shared the falafels with tahini sauce and the spicy hummus with fresh, billowy pita bread. Ava recommended the spicy hummus and it was so good with the pita as well as falafel. For our main, we shared the spicy, garlic half roasted chicken which was accompanied by a fabulous spicy sauce and a garlic sauce with rice pilaf. It was a generous portion for 2 to share and we both enjoyed everything on the plate. I think we need to come back and broaden our sampling choices to be credible judges in the discussion. As for the review of Ammatoli- 5 star for food, service and for aesthetic. This would be a great date night or celebration experience. read more

I wish i took a photo but the food is amazing. Went here for brunch and Olivia took care of us. She was really attentive to us, also gave us good recommendations on what to order. We had an excellent experience at Ammatoli in Long Beach, and our waitress, Kasey, made it even better. She was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and gave great guidance throughout the meal. The food was honestly just okay. Went here because of the positive reviews, BUT from a food perspective it was not the best Mediterranean I've had. This food seems to be very catered toward the white taste buds, because there was not spice on dishes that should have been spicy. The flavors were all there, but not elevated to what I was expecting. Service was very good, our waitress was kind. I wouldn't come here again, and I'd rather spend my money somewhere that serves more authentic food. read more

So good! We were a group of 3 & ordered the appetizer platter & the family feast. I love how they had the family feast option it was the quickest decision my friends & I have ever made as a group. Their hummus was SO good. Their service is great There's a bar area but it looked kind of small. The restaurant itself was kind of a tight fit, closer tables. The girls at the tables next to us were basically a part of our conversations as well lol Parking is easy at a garage or street parking I would definitely come back if I was already planning to come to the area again. read more

Came here with some friends to start the new year, luckily it was open. From the ammatoli shawarma to the jibneh manoushe (w soujouk), the food was splendid. The quality of the meat and hummus were so refined and the pita bread was fluffy and warm as it was just-baked. Service was awesome as she kindly helped us choose a few items off the menu. The inside atmosphere is upscale and was a surprise to us as we had just come from a hike. Although we felt underdressed as we sat near the bar, the restaurant was very welcoming and friendly. read more

This was my first time visiting Ammatoli and was not disappointed. My table decided on three appetizers; the beef shawarma hummus, roasted cauliflower, and the falafels. In addition to this, we grabbed two entrees, the spicy garlic lemon chicken and the Greek salad (we added chicken shawarma). The flavors were bold and extremely delicious. We finished our visit with dessert, Teta's carrot cake and the Knafeh. Cameron was our server and he was awesome! Very knowledgeable and had recommendations for each course. All in all, I loved Ammatoli. From the moment I stepped in, it was welcoming and had an intimate environment. read more

Amazing food in the Long Beach area. While I loved everything my friend and I ordered, we both agreed that the seabass was our favorite. Perfectly seasoned & flaky buttery fish. A beautiful interior, great for a date night or a celebration. Lots of natural lighting for dining inside. There are also a few tables outside for dining. Bathroom was incredibly clean as well. Service was great & attentive, they were so kind when my friend and I wanted to try different types of wine before deciding which one to order. Definitely recommend trying! read more

This is a really well designed restaurant. The look is clean and chic, modern. The staff were friendly. It was very busy for a weekday lunch. The portions are pretty good and the food tasted fresh. Ammatoli is a hidden gem here in Long Beach featuring exquisite tastes, lovely ambiance, and professional service leaving a lasting memory for diners. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal made up of their tapas that left us full with leftovers to spare. Their lunch menu features a three way mezza plate that is filling for two. The falafel is perfectly crisped with excellent flavor. It pairs quite well with their creamy labneh, balanced in flavor and texture hummus, and rich in spice foul mudammas. I definitely recommend pairing all of these with their housemade pita, which comes with three puffed pieces that were the perfect amount for two. We opted to also try their fried cauliflower which did not disappoint. Their olive oil house dressing was the most excellent dip for this herbal dressed dish. The hummus topped with chicken shawarma was equally delicious, very fresh and perfectly flavored. Big shout out to our server, Ava M, who was incredibly professional and had excellent recommendations that set us up for an incredible experience! Nice and bright place. Big wine bar area. Wife and I had dinner. We had the beet hummus. We asked for a side of spice so they gave us a jalapeño sauce. Love that combo with the very tasty and just out of the oven pita bread. I had chilean sea bass over rice. I loved the flavor of this rice. Sea bass was good as well. My wife had something in like a small wrap with stuff in it. We forgot the name. Won't get that again. Fine but not her thing. I love ice tea. $6 per glass and every refill. That was a bit different. Only got 2 because of that. No one else does that. Hmmm. I will go back to try other menu items. Service was great. read more

Came to celebrate my partners birthday and had a great time! I really liked the lamb skewers and kafta skewers, the lamb and kafta were juicy and flavorful. They paired great with pita, hummus, and falafel. Pita was warm and fluffy, super fresh and falafel had a great texture on the outside while still soft and moist on the inside. Also enjoyed the osmalieh ice cream, super creamy with great texture balance between the filo dough and dates. Grape leaves were okay but probably would try a different option for the 3 mezza instead. Personally Id skip the turkish coffee, it wasn't bad but felt a bit gimmicky and the meat manoushe also could've used more flavor as well. Service was attentive, they gave us a little candle with dessert. The inside is so gorgeous, I love the arched door ways and decor. Overall great food, a bit expensive but clearly popular for a reason! read more

We've been coming to Ammatoli since it first opened in the original smaller space and it's been absolutely delicious and dependable all of these years. It's been amazing to see the progress and expansion- while the restaurant has maintained the inviting feel and great food. Today, we brought family from out of town and our toddler and Jilane took such great care of us. Everything tasted fresh and arrived quickly. Located in downtown Long Beach, Ammatoli was ranked #36 in the top 101 restaurants in LA by the LA Times. It's been their fourth year on this list. Chef Dima Habibeh also received national acclaim as a James Beard Semi-finalist as "best chef". Ammatoli is one of the emerging leaders who are evolving Long Beach into a foodie destination. Ambiance is nice for a date. It feels upscale, they have a pretty decent wine menu, and everything is served family style. I've been here once for lunch and once for dinner. You have to make sure you have their house made pita and you can elevate the fresh flatbread with selections from their mezza (appetizers), which are best sampled in a group. Note that you can get their mezza at a discount during happy hour from 3-5p on weekdays. For our meal, we went with a three-way mezza with hummus, mutabbal (roasted eggplant/tahini/garlic spread), and their batata harra (spicy roasted potatoes). The warm, pluffy pita with these apps is addictive and a must have. I really really enjoyed the hummus and batata harra and I'll be ordering these again for a happy hour in the near future! For our family-style entrees, we went with their palestinian msakhan, which was a half rotisserie chicken over a bed of caramelized onions and served with a nice cucumber and yogurt sauce. We also went with their ammatoli mixed mashawi with four ribeye steak skewers and the meat was tender and delicious and I couldn't get enough of the toum (garlic sauce) that they gave with the meat. Our server recommended for us to order their mujaddara mezza to pair with the kebabs and it was clutch. The mujaddara was rice with crispy lentils and fried onions. The wine menu had some nice options and we got a bottle of sangiovese to go with our proteins and it definitely did the job. Ammatoli definitely deserves acclaim for their top tier Mediterranean food with palestinian and levantine twists. Their house-made pitas are a must have. Food isn't cheap, but I really enjoyed having this family-style meal with friends for a special occasion. I also like that you can get 2 hours free parking at the Harvey Milk Community lot a block away. Make sure you get a reservation on opentable or yelp. Note: if you have nut allergies, talk to your server and scan the menu closely (sesame, pine nuts, walnuts, pistachios). read more

Wonderful meal and first rate service. Traveling from out of town and I was looking for something different and healthy. Ammatoli delivered on both fronts. Ammatoli hand down is a must try in Long Beach! Make a reservation for dinner and enjoy the lively and helpful staff point out, what is great on the menu. A must try is the spicy hummus ( if you like a little kick) with the freshly baked pita bread and thank me later! If you love eggplant, then you have to try the moussaka. The béchamel sauce is done just right and layered to perfection with perfect bites of potato and meat. The OSMALIEH ICE CREAM was perfect with the right amount of sweetness and flavor but the TETA'S CARROT CAKE was good but would be better warmed up (I took it home and warmed it up and ate with ice cream). Overall I will definitely be back as the food is amazing, the service is top tier and the ambiance is so elegant, spacious and romantic. Everyone should run out and try this place. read more

Service was great, got some great recommendations from Francis, who suggested the pork special, but told us we had to try the Lemon Chicken. My wife got the dumplings which I definitely recommend. Got here during happy hour so the 3 way mezza was on discount. Spicy Hummus and the Dolmas (grape leaves) were fantastic and that pita bread was seriously incredible. Price was on the higher side, would have loved if Pita was included with the mezza but can't say we were disappointed at all. Ended with pistachio Backlawa and Turkish coffee. I don't ever write reviews but I just can't help myself. First off the food, I really believe it's impossible to choose a bad dish on the menu. You can taste the chef's and kitchen's work, love, and passion in every bite. Incredible. For price and portions and overall experience well worth it and a must try. Personally the ambiance is just what I like; not too dark not too bright, loud or silent, crowded or spacious. In my 20 years in the food industry you can tell a lot about a business by how the workers carry themselves and everyone seemed to be happy. It's common to hear the "server's voice" or script, but shout out to Pete for being a genuine and sincere server who takes pride in his craft and a master at it. Our experience was awesome from start to finish. The atmosphere was incredibly beautiful and inviting. Our server Annie was excellent! She was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and able to offer awesome recommendations. She was also very attentive and personable, made for a stellar experience. We ordered the Roasted Beets Hummus, Freshly Baked Pita Bread, and Meat Manoushe' as appetizers, the Sayadieh as our main entree, and the Pistachio Baklava which came with a scoop of Whiskey Vanilla Ice Cream from Longbeach Creamery (a fantastic local ice cream shop!) for dessert! All of it was absolutely amazing and cohesive! It terms of experience this place became our number one restaurant experience surpassing the one star Michelin restaurant we'd been to. Walk-ins are most welcomed! However, it will be extremely difficult to accommodate parties of 7 or more due to limited space and other reservations which also need to be honored.

When I got back to work, I realized the chicken was missing. I did not complain because I still had the lamb and the rest of the salad, and I understand that mistakes happen. Still, it was disappointing because I specifically came back wanting the same complete meal I had the first time. On my third visit, I drove from Gardena to Signal Hill specifically for that salad. After driving back to Gardena, I realized there was no dressing in the bag. I called the restaurant and explained what happened. I was told, "I'm sorry." At first I accepted that, but then I thought, what am I supposed to do with a salad with no dressing? I called back because I wanted to know what could be done. I was told that if I wanted my money back, I would have to bring the salad back to the restaurant. That meant after already driving from Gardena to Signal Hill and back, I was expected to make another trip because of something the restaurant forgot. When I explained that I was disappointed with how the situation was being handled and that I planned to leave a review, the woman on the phone responded, "All this for a dressing?" The first time, I let it go. This time, the missing item affected the whole meal. What I would have appreciated was simple customer service. Acknowledge the inconvenience and make an effort to keep the customer. Something as simple as, "We apologize. Unfortunately, we cannot refund you without the food being returned, but on your next visit we will make sure we take care of you," would have completely changed the experience. Even offering a drink next time or simply saying they appreciated my business would have shown that they cared. Someone spilled a drink, and one of the cooks helped clean it up. The description reads "Six falafels, traditional garbanzo hummus and tzatziki. Served with warm pita bread." On the app You choose your rice - I choose basmati rice. Not sure why they let you choose your spread when the description reads you get hummus and tzatziki. I just selected hummus. My order was missing the hummus and tzatziki. I wish they would have given me my spreads cos my meal would have been dry without it (imo). Since I had no spread, my husband ended giving me his which meant he had no spread for his meal. I wish they would have done better because I was craving food from here for so long and other locations I have been to, I have never had this problem.

I have enjoyed Ammatoli in Long Beach many times and regularly order from them for Long Beach Symphony Pops concerts, so I approached my recent home catering order already familiar with--and appreciative of--the quality of their food. Unfortunately, while the flavors remained very good, the catering execution did not live up to the same standard. Ordering food for approximately 8-10 guests through Ammatoli's online catering system was remarkably easy. The platform is efficient, thorough, and straightforward, and placing a fairly substantial order required very little effort. The first issue was delivery timing. I specifically scheduled the order for 5:45 p.m., knowing that between 5:00 and 5:30 I would be busy preparing the house for arriving guests. Instead, the food arrived at 5:00--45 minutes early. The delivery was presented as though arriving early were an added benefit, but with catering, timing is part of the service. When hosting a dinner party, food arriving nearly an hour before requested can be just as inconvenient as food arriving late. That becomes more noticeable considering the final cost was approximately $498 including gratuity, with a $45 delivery charge for a destination only about three miles from the restaurant. As for the food, there was plenty to enjoy. The Greek feta salad was excellent--fresh and beautifully seasoned. We ordered ten kebabs consisting of salmon, steak, lamb, chicken, and kafta, and everything was cooked properly and arrived with the familiar flavors that have made Ammatoli a downtown Long Beach favorite of mine. Where the catering package lost its balance was portioning. For a meal intended to serve 8-10 people, ten kebabs simply did not provide enough protein, particularly as the steak and lamb portions felt noticeably modest. Several of my guests independently commented on the shortage of meat. At the same time, the accompaniments were supplied in extraordinary abundance. We received two large trays of rice, an enormous quantity of hummus, and multiple bags of pita--far more than our group could reasonably consume. The salad portion, by comparison, was about right, with just enough remaining after everyone had been served. The spicy hummus was unfortunately the one significant miss from the kitchen. Every guest who tried it found the heat overwhelming. The jalapeño oil dominated to such a degree that the hummus was essentially inedible for our group. Heat can certainly be intentional, but it should enhance a dish rather than eliminate its other flavors. This is where I believe Ammatoli could substantially improve its catering program. The order felt portioned according to tray sizes rather than thoughtfully composed around the number of people being served. For nearly $500, I would much rather receive less rice, pita and hummus and a more generous allocation of the proteins that are supposed to anchor the meal. A catering order for ten should feel intentionally designed to feed ten--not like several independently sized menu items assembled together. That distinction matters because the underlying food remains very good. The seasoning, freshness, and Middle Eastern flavors that keep me returning to Ammatoli were still present. This was not a failure of the restaurant's culinary identity; it was a failure of catering balance and execution. I will absolutely eat at Ammatoli again and will continue to regard it as one of downtown Long Beach's notable restaurants. However, I would approach another large catering order with some reservation unless the portioning could be discussed in advance. Ammatoli already knows how to make excellent food. With more thoughtful catering portions, greater precision in delivery timing, and the same care applied to a large order that one experiences dining at the restaurant, the catering program could--and should--match the quality of the kitchen. I shouldn't be surprised at the owner's self-righteous finger-pointing response to the worst restaurant experience in our life. But why should I? She always blames the customers for any valid complaint or criticism of her restaurant. Her pattern is: denial, rationalization, and blame. {*Read the 1-star critiques of Ammatoli which illustrates my point.} You didn't listen at all to any of the grievances that I had when I dined at Ammatoli on Jan 2nd, a day and evening my wife and I were looking forward to in order to celebrate the New Year! But your staff and egregious manager ruined our night, and now it is Tuesday Jan 3, 2023, and I am still upset and utterly insulted by your lack of empathy and condoning of your employees horrible and reprehensible behavior! You didn't care, nor did you even respond to the fact that your manager verbally attacked me calling me a "racist", even though my wife is an Arab woman, and I am extremely sensitive to any racists slights or epithets. He literally kicked us out of your restaurant at 6:00pm, when the waitress said we could have the table until 6:30pm because there was another party who had reserved the table supposedly. Why didn't you intervene when your employee was maltreating us? You were nowhere to be found! The irony here is that your bumbling manager called me a racist! Why don't you read the 1-star criticisms of your restaurant and you will see an entire range of racist propensities of discrimination that your customers have experience at Ammatoli? Oh but sorry, I forgot; you do not legitimize any little comment, criticism, or critique of your lovely wonderful restaurant. You only respond gushingly to the sycophants who sing your foolish undeserving praises. I have never been to any Mediterranean restaurant, in which there is a time limit on a table and you have to leave or eat your meal quickly in order to make room for the next party which has the table reserved. Yet the owner has the nerve to call her restaurant a five-star restaurant! What a total joke! The problem is you have no idea what five-star fine dining is! It is an embarrassment to call your extremely mediocre establishment with bad food and unfriendly service five star. By the way, do five-star restaurants seat customers at a crowded bar 4 inches away from total strangers after having waited for one hour for a table? You obviously have no clue and no perspective! However, I do not want to argue back and forth with the owner, who gives false sympathy to reviewers pretending to empathize with their "bad experience" at her restaurant. Then, she immediately defends all of the poor service and rude behavior of her unfit manager; and ultimately she attacks the customer who has any legitimate complaint or grievance with her so-called five-star restaurant. Nevertheless, you can't argue with a narcissist, so I won't try here! Additionally, this oblivious owner, who pretends to be a friend of the diverse Long Beach community, has no idea how to hire wait staff and managers because they don't know the first thing about restaurant/dining savoir faire (etiquette). For your information I never told your waiter that the food was horrible like you stated in your ridiculous response. I usually refrain from writing negative reviews and try to keep emotion out of them. In fact, I've been to Ammatoli many times and have brought friends and family here on multiple occasions because the food is truly outstanding and worth driving over 30 minutes for. The service has generally been good--maybe not exceptional for a restaurant in this price range, but certainly good enough that we've continued to come back. Unfortunately, our most recent visit completely changed our experience. We arrived a few minutes before 4:00 p.m. with our service animal, Popcorn, who is incredibly gentle and well-behaved. There was no one at the entrance, so we walked inside where a young hostess approached us. She immediately and rather abruptly pointed us back outside, saying that animals were not allowed inside. My wife explained that Popcorn is a service animal, which the hostess acknowledged, yet she directed us to the outdoor seating. When we asked if we could sit inside, she told us the restaurant was fully booked until 8:00 p.m. This seemed odd because the restaurant was nearly empty at the time. We even asked if that meant the restaurant would be completely full within the next hour, and she insisted that it would. Reluctantly, we agreed to sit outside. It was windy, and after a few minutes I told my wife I wasn't comfortable and suggested we leave instead. As we were walking out, another couple arrived without a reservation and was immediately seated at the bar. That was frustrating to see, so I asked to speak with the manager. The manager initially repeated that they were fully booked. When I pointed out the couple who had just been seated, he explained they were at the bar. We responded that no one had offered us that option. Only then did he reluctantly offer us seats at the bar, reminding us that the service animal could not sit on our laps, which of course we never intended to do. Once seated, our server was excellent, and as always, the food was amazing. Those two things remain the reason we've continued to visit over the years. I have left videos of before and after for you to judge for yourself. I understand that some guests may not like animals in restaurants, but California law permits trained service animals inside restaurants. Whether someone personally likes it or not, customers should not be treated differently because they have a service animal. What disappointed me most wasn't the policy--it was the way the situation was handled. Both the hostess and the manager came across as dismissive and unprofessional, and the entire situation could have been avoided with better communication and a more accommodating attitude. It's unfortunate because Ammatoli serves some of the best food in the area, yet we left feeling disappointed after spending nearly $90 on a salad, hummus with shawarma, sparkling water, and a beer. I've been going to Ammatoli for years--long before the expansion, back when it was a much smaller space and they even had the customer rewards points program. This has always been one of my favorite restaurants for special occasions, holidays, family dinners, and celebrations. I know the menu well, I've recommended this place to so many people, and it has always felt special to me. That's why I was so disappointed by my experience today. I stopped in for happy hour around 5 PM to celebrate something personal, just by myself, and sat at the bar. It was surprisingly quiet--barely anyone there, just a few tables occupied. I ordered from the happy hour menu: spicy hummus and the regular menu gyro and fries, and a glass of Brut. The server mentioned that pita was complimentary, just not the fresh pita, and I said that was perfectly fine. Then a server brought me the fresh pita anyway. I thought it was a kind gesture--especially since it was slow, it's bread, and many restaurants offer bread as a courtesy to guests. But then the server came over and immediately asked if I had wanted that bread and was clearly ready to take it off my table. I had already eaten one piece. She told me if I kept it, it would be added to my bill--$7 for bread I didn't ask for and that was brought to me by their own staff. It felt weird because the whispering and dramatics over bread ... to a customer was awkward and just uncomfortable.... Whispering like I did something wrong. At that point, I felt embarrassed and honestly disrespected. It wasn't about the $7--it was the principle. If your staff brings something to a loyal customer's table without being asked, especially during a quiet happy hour, don't make them feel awkward by trying to take it back or charge them like they did something wrong. She only checked on me, to check on if I wanted the bread, and I still tipped 20%, even though the service absolutely did not reflect that level of care. I love this restaurant, and respect Dima as an outstanding owner in Our community ... and that's exactly why this was so frustrating. My friends and I chose this establishment for our Christmas gathering. Our recent visit to this restaurant, which came highly recommended by a trusted friend, turned out to be a profound disappointment. After our order had been served, we politely asked if she could snap a quick photo of our group from a second phone, only to be met with an exaggerated sigh. She then flatly refused and said "No I can't", and abruptly walked away, and we noticed her idly standing at the counter. Such dismissive conduct left us questioning why a simple request for a second photo--a mere few seconds of her time--would be deemed too difficult or inconvenient. The situation worsened when we brought up our concerns as we settled the bill. Instead of offering any empathy or apology, Mary M talked back with an attitude, and responded rudely insisting she had already taken one picture and suggested we could have asked the receptionist or simply shared the existing shot. Her continued sarcasm and standoffish attitude made us feel like we were imposing on her, rather than simply enjoying a holiday meal with friends. Adding insult to injury, a fixed 22% tip was automatically added to our bill, which is understandable for large groups, yet felt wholly undeserved under such rude circumstances. Although the food itself was notably good, this experience has left an indelibly negative impression on us. We fully expected the "best" restaurant, as touted by many, to deliver both exceptional cuisine and welcoming service. In a bid to seek some clarification, I approached the hostess to inquire if there had been any oversight on our reservation. To our relief, our esteemed waitress extended her greetings around 8:50, allowing us to proceed with our meal order. Yet, it was disheartening that we once again found ourselves waiting, this time for an additional 30 minutes, before our orders were finally served. This level of service was undeniably subpar and, regrettably, cast a pall over what could have otherwise been a delightful evening. Furthermore, I must address the wine selection, which left much to be desired. The offerings were limited, with market prices predominantly hovering around the $20-25 range, which, in comparison to their market value, left much to be desired. Additionally, the wines on offer carried an average Vivino rating of 3.8, which, to my surprise, were being sold at $18 per glass. I advice to expand your wine collection to add better selection of Levantine and California wines (Daou, Musar, Beringer, etc.) In light of these experiences, I am uncertain whether I would consider returning to this establishment. Since I came to California, I have been to many restaurants with the concept of Mediterranean cuisine when I missed the food I used to have at home. After many disappointments even at the turkish restaurants here, my first time at AMMATOLI was a highlighting experience. The food here doesn't belong to a specific country, the menu is so rich and each item there is another wonderful example of a culture from Middle East area. In my first order, I wanted to try the signature items from the culture, which my mother used to cook and I would love it. Grape leaves and hummus as sides, beef kebab and hallumi cheese grilled with tomatoes, I JUST FELL IN LOVE with AMMATOLI at first bite. The harmony of the spices in food and the music going on in the background made me feel like HOME. The atmosphere in this place is also premium, the decoration itself contains so well-selected items for the cultural experience you are having with the food. Btw, the owner of AMMATOLI, Dima, is the nicest lady ever. It's a family business and you know everything that comes to your table is clean and premium when it's a family thing. Also, if you have a sweet tooth, trying baklava and kunefeh can end your meal at its peak with a cup of Turkish coffee. I'm loving it there! This was our first and last time at Ammatoli. The service from our server, Francis, was great, but the food itself and the ridiculous pricing completely ruined the experience. We ordered the 3-way appetizer mezza for $39 (before tax), and what we got looked like a kid-sized sampler. No bread included--who serves mezza without pita bread?! And to top it off, they charge $7 for just 3 pieces of pita. Be ready to pay extra for the most basic thing that should come with it. The beef shawarma plate was $26 (before tax) and came with a tiny piece of bread topped with the meat and some tahini on the side. No sides. None. I have never been to a restaurant that serves main entrées without at least a side of rice, salad, or something. I also ordered a side of French fries for $8, and they literally gave me seven fries. Seven. I've never seen anything like it. Then there was the sayadiyeh plate for $46. Seriously, why?! It was just fish and rice, and the portion of fish wasn't even enough for a child. On top of the overpriced, underwhelming food, the payment screen basically forces you to tip a set percentage. Tipping should always be optional and based on service, not forced by the restaurant. The whole thing was such a letdown. Great service, yes, but the food quality, portion sizes, and prices are outrageous. Never again. read more

I have been impressed by the food and beverage quality every time I go to Ammatoli on East 3rd Street. It is by far my favorite restaurant in Long Beach, and everyone I have gone with loves it. I recommend making a reservation in advance on OpenTable as they do get quite busy, but ensure your full party can commit as they do charge per person for any last-minute cancellations. For parking, I recommend the structures just up the street. A must-order is the mint lemonade ($6). It is the best balance of flavors, it isn't too sweet, and they use fresh mint. Although it doesn't come with free refills, we usually buy an extra lemonade to-go as well. Our server Cameron G was very thorough with checking back with the kitchen on items regarding food allergies, and he always made sure we had enough hot water and regular water. It's a great place for groups if you make a reservation in advance because they have something everyone will love, and a lot of the dishes are meant for sharing. I love both the lamb kebab mashawi ($28) and the ammatoli chicken shawarma ($26). It doesn't automatically come with rice, but you can add a side of Vermicelli Rice for the table for $80. I recently visited this restaurant for Saturday brunch, and it was a disappointment from start to finish. To begin with, the service was incredibly slow. It took a full 15 minutes for our server to finally check on us, and it didn't get any better from there. One of the basics of brunch is having coffee available, but to our surprise, they didn't have any. How can you run a brunch service without coffee? The food itself was a mixed bag. Not only did it arrive late, but they also missed bringing our 2 pita bread orders, which is a brunch staple. To make matters worse, they completely forgot the sumac (Turkish hotdog) in our order. When we brought this to the waiter's attention, he seemed uninterested and didn't offer to rectify the mistake until we insisted. Even then, his attitude was far from accommodating. To top it all off, when we received a new order of eggs, they were served raw. At that point, we gave up on reordering anything and just wanted to leave. Overall, it was an incredibly disappointing brunch experience. The combination of slow service, missing items, and undercooked food left us with a sour taste in our mouths. Flies may be an issue but I always bring eucalyptus spray to ward them away. The place was busy but they did a good job keeping it clean. Bathroom was clean! Food: Beef Bulgogi breakfast burrito: 9/10: I love breakfast burritos (I don't eat pork) but I hate fatty meat but was told it wasn't too fatty and it wasn't too bad. Very tasty and the pico was fresh and a perfect addition. I loved the crispiness of the tots inside and the flavors meshed well together. I would get this again! Side of turkey bacon! 10/10! For those that don't eat pork, this was a win. We didn't see it on the menu but I asked and they said they have it! Yaay!!! Croissant French toast: 8/10: this wasn't really traditional French toast (wasn't cooked in eggs). It was a croissant dipped in coconut milk with fresh fruit and whipped cream. I'm not a fan of the coconut taste so it wasn't my favorite but hubby seemed to like it. Drinks: Iced blueberry matcha xtra sweet & xtra blueberry flavor w/almond milk: 10/10. This was good and I'd get it again. They made it JUST how I requested it! Iced strawberry matcha w/almond milk: 10/10: This was good! Both matchas didn't have that dirt/earthy taste so they were both winners. Service: 10/10. Absolutely no issues from the order/service counter to the cute lady that bussed our dishes. I didn't notice around 11, when we were getting ready to leave, it got much busier. Now, our food. I got 2 drinks-- the guava pineapple spritzer which was such a good mocktail and not overly sweet. I also got an iced decaf latte which was good. Would probably have been better if it was fully caffeinated, but I've noticed that about all decaf coffee during this pregnancy. My husband got the maple bacon old fashioned and said it was smooth and delicious. It came with a piece of bacon as garnish! Our server Elise was absolutely amazing and recommended items to us. I went with her recommendation of the carne asada plate and OMG it was quite possibly the best carne asada I've ever had. It came with eggs, potatoes and a choice of toast or tortilla.
