Wow! What a beautiful restaurant! The food was incredible, and everything we ordered was delicious. I made a brunch reservation without any issues, and while we were there, we witnessed a beautiful Muslim ceremony. I was very excited to try the Turkish coffee. I'm not huge on this type of food but it was really good here. All the meat was not as dry as you'd get at other Mediterranean locations and there were lots of great flavor. Even the potatoes which looked very generic, were very tasty. Service was friendly and they allow kids here. My only gripes are the floors and the cost. For a place where the decor is white and pristine, I imaged the floor would have been cleaner. I saw lots of people's hair and crumbs from before us (and we had reservations early) which was a bit off putting. Yes, the food and service were good. But it's also not tugging on my strings to come back anytime soon. Family of 5 adults and 2 kids that unfortunately didn't eat anything but the pita, was over $450. So come here on a special occasion! read more

Food was incredible! We had the 3 way mezza with falafel, roasted beets hummus, and foul mudammas. We also shared a chicken shawarma plate and the chicken was seasoned and cooked perfectly! We went on the first night of Ramadan. The food it what my friend constantly raved about. I think I went with too high if expectations. The ambiance and restaurant is absolutely beautiful and so inviting. Maybe it was the fixed menu. The food was a little dry. But I will try it again. Perfect way to celebrate Easter Sunday! Our waiter was great it was our first time there and he was able to provide a thorough explanation of the menu and made great recommendations! Our food was delicious and even though it was busy our food arrived in a timely manner. You can tell customers enjoy coming to this beautiful restaurant! Definitely will be coming back. Delicious healthy Mediterranean food with a very elevated sleek ambiance! Loved the interior design with high ceilings, great lighting, and a fancy bar. Food here is pricy, we ordered two entrees, pita bread with hummus, and a dessert which came out to $100 total. Probably wouldn't come here again because of the price but overall the beef shwarma wrap was delicious!! We also ordered a arugula beet salad which was yummy and did not skimp on the beets. Last, we ordered an ice cream just because it was my birthday but it was 20$, it was super yummy though and loved the texture!! read more

I would like to start off by saying that the food here is good and it's a really cute spot in downtown Long Beach. We came for a birthday so we had a reservation and were seated right away. We ordered a bottle of wine and our waitress brought out the more expensive of the two red blends although we had pointed to the cheaper one. We did not realize this until we got our receipt and didn't say anything to give her the benefit of the doubt. This place also isn't very cheap and we were told it was more of a family style menu. By saying this, we expected that portion sizes would be sharing size, but they seemed closer to individual portion sizing which made it difficult to cut and split between 5 people. We started with the appetizer trio with the spicy hummus, falafel, and spinach kibbeh. All the dishes were good, again just a small portion for the price. For food, we got the meat manoushe, but it didn't really taste like meat. The ouzi lamb chops were really good as well as the ammatoli shawarma with gyro but again just seemed to miss the mark as a shareable entree. It is possible that for a group of 5 that we may have needed one more entree, but I was full, just not completely satisfied plus that would've added to the bill. They did bring out a dessert for the birthday girl, which was nice, and the "a date with cake" (date cake) was realllyyy good! We also tried the tahini chocolate chip cookie, which was okay. A friend has come here for brunch and really enjoyed it so maybe I'll try that next time. If I come back for dinner then I will order differently. read more

Ammatoli has to be apart of the Long Beach secret sauce. The location is in downtown Long Beach with a beautiful scenery. My first tip is, if you want to get it and enjoy your food...make a reservation! The wait times are a bit long due to the service and quality of food. Mason, our server was awesome! He knew the menu very well and made sure that his tables were attended throughout the night. My second tip, order the Spicy Garlic Lemon Chicken!! My husband and I cleaned the bones! It was THAT good! The tzatziki sauce is the best I have ever tasted state side. I wanted to eat that by itself. One of the prettiest places I've ever dined at (and they've got some delicious eats to match)! Minimalistic yet warm, Ammatoli will definitely impress whoever you bring along for a bite. Their team is super attentive and thoughtful. Overall, such a great elevated vibe. A homey feeling with a sprinkle of fancy. We went with their Ammatoli Healthy Bowl (with rice, fattoush, and falafel), their Ammatoli Moussaka, and by recommendation of the waitress, their Housemade Pita with Spicy Hummus. Ammatoli Healthy Bowl: Fresh, fragrant, and honest. It's a simple dish made well. A great choice for lunch if you're having trouble deciding and want a balanced meal. Ammatoli Moussaka: This was my first time having moussaka and the only way I can really describe it is like an eggplant lasagna. Incredibly indulgent and oh-so-tasty! Housemade Pita: These were the true stars! It might have been the best pita I've ever had. They came out piping hot and freshly baked. Sooooo pillowy, fluffy, and light. First and foremost, our waiter, Michael, was great, insightful, and helpful. He knew the menu and gave great suggestions. The vibe here is nice with their decorations, freshly made items, and music that's not too overpowering. They make their pita bread fresh to order, which adds a nice touch. I had a great time here catching up with a close high school friend. Beautiful ambiance and delicious food. Cameron was friendly and helpful, and the perfect level of attentiveness for two friends catching up on a two hour lunch. All of the staff we interacted with were great. We ordered great vegetarian options including the halloumi cheese (my favorite perhaps), the avocado cucumber salad, also good (maybe I'm used to more salt/less lemon?). It was my first time here and it did not disappoint. We booked a reservation for 11:45 PM and it was pretty packed on a Sunday, so highly recommend booking before you go. The ambiance is so lovely with a beautiful interior, making it the perfect place to dress up for brunch. The grape leaves as an appetizer was the perfect start to our meal, as it was so fresh and light. The pomegranates on top were the perfect touch. I really enjoyed my shawarma beef wrap and it was pretty filling since it was generously filled with beef. I'll definitely come again for more! read more

Mediterranean food is one of my top 3 favorite cuisine. After visiting Ammatoli today, I will now refer to it as Levantine! I didn't know what I had already experienced could get any better, any fresher, tastier... When I made the reservation it asked for the occasion and it was such a super nice detail that there was a birthday card for my friend. Great service by Alex, she was very attentive and gave us great insight on our food. Beautiful simple decor. The Mediterranean fries have to be one of the most amazing fries out there, feta and parm, best ever! Although I got a lil shared 3 mezza dishes, I added chicken to the fattoush salad and that was perfect. I finished off with a unique carrot cake that's a recipe from the chef's grandmother, we all loved it! A must if you're into carrot cake. A fabulous experience! read more

Dined in the mid afternoon to avoid the rush. Had a party of six. Waitstaff Keira was excellent - friendly, attentive , professional and very efficient and helpful. We ordered from the lunch menu and had gyro, falafel, chicken shawarma, chicken rolls and salad. Each entree came with a bed of rice and two sides- we tried the hummus, tabouli, spicy hummus, grape leaves, beet hummus and eggplant hummus. All were excellent. The lamb and beef gyro was our favorite. The chicken rolls were delicious and unique too. We weren't as fond of the chicken shawarma which was quite dry. We ordered their freshly baked pita bread which comes straight from the oven- hot, puffy and fresh. We had wine and some had mint lemonade which was excellent and refreshing. Lunch for six was $261 so not inexpensive but the food and service are very good. There is indoor and outdoor seating and the interior is quite bright, cheery and comfortable. They also have bar seating. Parking is in a nearby structure- free for two hours and street parking is limited. read more

Ambiance (5/5): Although we didn't sit inside, it was super cute, with classy boho vibes. The restroom was clean and well-decorated (although, not gonna lie, I don't know how I felt about the big mirror facing the toilet). The outside patio area was airy, and although right by the street, I didn't find it unpleasant. Service (3/5): It was just so-so. The pocket pita bread was not what I had in mind (I'm used to thicker ones), but the kids really loved it overall. Ice cream (4.5/5): We ordered two scoops from the dessert menu. They were both really thick, creamy and almost chewy like liquidized mochi. It was a very interesting texture but nonetheless a nice tasty treat on a hot day. I much preferred the vanilla bean, as the pistachio tasted and looked rather artificial (and I'm a pistachio ice cream lover). This place had so many to-go orders during the afternoon we were there. I shouldn't be surprised at the owner's self-righteous finger-pointing response to the worst restaurant experience in our life. But why should I? She always blames the customers for any valid complaint or criticism of her restaurant. Her pattern is: denial, rationalization, and blame. {*Read the 1-star critiques of Ammatoli which illustrates my point.} You didn't listen at all to any of the grievances that I had when I dined at Ammatoli on Jan 2nd, a day and evening my wife and I were looking forward to in order to celebrate the New Year! But your staff and egregious manager ruined our night, and now it is Tuesday Jan 3, 2023, and I am still upset and utterly insulted by your lack of empathy and condoning of your employees horrible and reprehensible behavior! You didn't care, nor did you even respond to the fact that your manager verbally attacked me calling me a "racist", even though my wife is an Arab woman, and I am extremely sensitive to any racists slights or epithets. He literally kicked us out of your restaurant at 6:00pm, when the waitress said we could have the table until 6:30pm because there was another party who had reserved the table supposedly. Why didn't you intervene when your employee was maltreating us? You were nowhere to be found! The irony here is that your bumbling manager called me a racist! I usually refrain from writing negative reviews and try to keep emotion out of them. In fact, I've been to Ammatoli many times and have brought friends and family here on multiple occasions because the food is truly outstanding and worth driving over 30 minutes for. The service has generally been good--maybe not exceptional for a restaurant in this price range, but certainly good enough that we've continued to come back. Unfortunately, our most recent visit completely changed our experience. We arrived a few minutes before 4:00 p.m. with our service animal, Popcorn, who is incredibly gentle and well-behaved. There was no one at the entrance, so we walked inside where a young hostess approached us. She immediately and rather abruptly pointed us back outside, saying that animals were not allowed inside. My wife explained that Popcorn is a service animal, which the hostess acknowledged, yet she directed us to the outdoor seating. When we asked if we could sit inside, she told us the restaurant was fully booked until 8:00 p.m. This seemed odd because the restaurant was nearly empty at the time. We even asked if that meant the restaurant would be completely full within the next hour, and she insisted that it would. Reluctantly, we agreed to sit outside. It was windy, and after a few minutes I told my wife I wasn't comfortable and suggested we leave instead. As we were walking out, another couple arrived without a reservation and was immediately seated at the bar. That was frustrating to see, so I asked to speak with the manager. The manager initially repeated that they were fully booked. When I pointed out the couple who had just been seated, he explained they were at the bar. We responded that no one had offered us that option. Only then did he reluctantly offer us seats at the bar, reminding us that the service animal could not sit on our laps, which of course we never intended to do. Once seated, our server was excellent, and as always, the food was amazing. Those two things remain the reason we've continued to visit over the years. I also took videos when we arrived and again when we left around 5:00 p.m. The restaurant never became anywhere close to full, making it difficult to understand why we were initially told there was no indoor seating available. I have left videos of before and after for you to judge for yourself. I understand that some guests may not like animals in restaurants, but California law permits trained service animals inside restaurants. Whether someone personally likes it or not, customers should not be treated differently because they have a service animal. What disappointed me most wasn't the policy--it was the way the situation was handled. Both the hostess and the manager came across as dismissive and unprofessional, and the entire situation could have been avoided with better communication and a more accommodating attitude. It's unfortunate because Ammatoli serves some of the best food in the area, yet we left feeling disappointed after spending nearly $90 on a salad, hummus with shawarma, sparkling water, and a beer. My group opted for a sharing format, beginning with the Msakhan chicken rolls ($21). Next, I ventured into the realm of manoushe ($15, with a $4 addition for soujouk). While the concept of this thin, baked flatbread piqued my interest, I ordered it with Awlaki cheese and soujouk. Regrettably, this selection proved to be the evening's low point. Frankly, I've encountered superior renditions elsewhere, especially considering the price tag. I've been going to Ammatoli for years--long before the expansion, back when it was a much smaller space and they even had the customer rewards points program. This has always been one of my favorite restaurants for special occasions, holidays, family dinners, and celebrations. I know the menu well, I've recommended this place to so many people, and it has always felt special to me. That's why I was so disappointed by my experience today. I stopped in for happy hour around 5 PM to celebrate something personal, just by myself, and sat at the bar. It was surprisingly quiet--barely anyone there, just a few tables occupied. I ordered from the happy hour menu: spicy hummus and the regular menu gyro and fries, and a glass of Brut. The server mentioned that pita was complimentary, just not the fresh pita, and I said that was perfectly fine. Then a server brought me the fresh pita anyway. I thought it was a kind gesture--especially since it was slow, it's bread, and many restaurants offer bread as a courtesy to guests. But then the server came over and immediately asked if I had wanted that bread and was clearly ready to take it off my table. I had already eaten one piece. She told me if I kept it, it would be added to my bill--$7 for bread I didn't ask for and that was brought to me by their own staff. It felt weird because the whispering and dramatics over bread ... to a customer was awkward and just uncomfortable.... Whispering like I did something wrong. At that point, I felt embarrassed and honestly disrespected. It wasn't about the $7--it was the principle. If your staff brings something to a loyal customer's table without being asked, especially during a quiet happy hour, don't make them feel awkward by trying to take it back or charge them like they did something wrong. She only checked on me, to check on if I wanted the bread, and I still tipped 20%, even though the service absolutely did not reflect that level of care. I love this restaurant, and respect Dima as an outstanding owner in Our community ... and that's exactly why this was so frustrating. I know how wonderful this place can be, and I know the heart behind it. That's why experiences like this stand out so much. My friends and I chose this establishment for our Christmas gathering. Our recent visit to this restaurant, which came highly recommended by a trusted friend, turned out to be a profound disappointment. After our order had been served, we politely asked if she could snap a quick photo of our group from a second phone, only to be met with an exaggerated sigh. She then flatly refused and said "No I can't", and abruptly walked away, and we noticed her idly standing at the counter. Such dismissive conduct left us questioning why a simple request for a second photo--a mere few seconds of her time--would be deemed too difficult or inconvenient. The situation worsened when we brought up our concerns as we settled the bill. Instead of offering any empathy or apology, Mary M talked back with an attitude, and responded rudely insisting she had already taken one picture and suggested we could have asked the receptionist or simply shared the existing shot. Her continued sarcasm and standoffish attitude made us feel like we were imposing on her, rather than simply enjoying a holiday meal with friends. Adding insult to injury, a fixed 22% tip was automatically added to our bill, which is understandable for large groups, yet felt wholly undeserved under such rude circumstances. Although the food itself was notably good, this experience has left an indelibly negative impression on us. We fully expected the "best" restaurant, as touted by many, to deliver both exceptional cuisine and welcoming service. Regrettably, our first--and most likely our last--visit to this establishment was overshadowed by an unpleasant and unprofessional encounter. I had an absolutely wonderful experience enjoying brunch at Ammatoli, and I have to give a special shout-out to our server, Dane. From the moment we were seated, he made us feel welcome and taken care of in such a genuine and professional way. His attentiveness was spot on--always there when we needed something but never overbearing. He carried himself with such warmth and made the whole brunch experience feel elevated. The food, of course, was nothing short of amazing. Every dish was beautifully presented and packed with authentic flavors that made it clear why Ammatoli has such a great reputation. Dane's knowledge of the menu really stood out; he gave great recommendations and explained each dish with enthusiasm and detail that made us even more excited to try them. You could tell he truly cared about making sure we enjoyed our meal from start to finish. What really impressed me was the level of service Dane delivered throughout brunch. He anticipated our needs before we even had to ask, made sure our glasses were never empty, and checked in just enough to show he was paying attention without interrupting our conversation. He was personable, polite, and had that perfect balance of professionalism and friendliness that made us feel right at home. It's rare these days to find someone who takes so much pride in their work, and Dane clearly does. He turned what was already an incredible meal into a memorable brunch experience. As a connoisseur of fine dining and wines, I must say that while the culinary offerings and the overall ambiance of the establishment are certainly promising, there is a notable caveat to my experience. On a recent Saturday evening, my party arrived promptly at 8:31 for our 8:30 reservation and were promptly seated; however, we regrettably found ourselves neglected for a substantial 17-minute period. In a bid to seek some clarification, I approached the hostess to inquire if there had been any oversight on our reservation. To our relief, our esteemed waitress extended her greetings around 8:50, allowing us to proceed with our meal order. Yet, it was disheartening that we once again found ourselves waiting, this time for an additional 30 minutes, before our orders were finally served. This level of service was undeniably subpar and, regrettably, cast a pall over what could have otherwise been a delightful evening. Furthermore, I must address the wine selection, which left much to be desired. The offerings were limited, with market prices predominantly hovering around the $20-25 range, which, in comparison to their market value, left much to be desired. Additionally, the wines on offer carried an average Vivino rating of 3.8, which, to my surprise, were being sold at $18 per glass. I advice to expand your wine collection to add better selection of Levantine and California wines (Daou, Musar, Beringer, etc.) In light of these experiences, I am uncertain whether I would consider returning to this establishment. For those seeking both superior cuisine and impeccable service, I would recommend exploring the offerings at the Grill House in La Verne as an alternative. read more

AMMATOLI is the best middle eastern restaurant in Los Angeles, NO, in California! Let me tell you why. I'm from Turkey and I grew up with Mediterranean and Aegean food all my life. Since I came to California, I have been to many restaurants with the concept of Mediterranean cuisine when I missed the food I used to have at home. After many disappointments even at the turkish restaurants here, my first time at AMMATOLI was a highlighting experience. The food here doesn't belong to a specific country, the menu is so rich and each item there is another wonderful example of a culture from Middle East area. In my first order, I wanted to try the signature items from the culture, which my mother used to cook and I would love it. Grape leaves and hummus as sides, beef kebab and hallumi cheese grilled with tomatoes, I JUST FELL IN LOVE with AMMATOLI at first bite. The harmony of the spices in food and the music going on in the background made me feel like HOME. The atmosphere in this place is also premium, the decoration itself contains so well-selected items for the cultural experience you are having with the food. Btw, the owner of AMMATOLI, Dima, is the nicest lady ever. It's a family business and you know everything that comes to your table is clean and premium when it's a family thing. Also, if you have a sweet tooth, trying baklava and kunefeh can end your meal at its peak with a cup of Turkish coffee. I'm loving it there! Each visit has been a revelation, a testament to their unwavering commitment to excellence. For dinner, I've explored their menu extensively, delighting in the succulent lamb shank, the array of tantalizing kabobs, the mouthwatering shawarma wrap, the fiery yet refreshing spicy garlic lemon chicken, and the exquisitely prepared sea bass, and salmon dishes. For brunch, I've indulged in the shakshuka, hola shawarma, and the comforting fattet hummus dishes. And let's not forget the classics - the regular and spicy hummus, served with fresh, pillowy pita bread, and the divine knafeh. The diversity and textures are worth overstuffing yourself EVERY! SINGLE! TIME! It's a culinary symphony where every dish plays its part to perfection, earning a well-deserved 100/10 on the flavor scale. This was our first and last time at Ammatoli. The service from our server, Francis, was great, but the food itself and the ridiculous pricing completely ruined the experience. We ordered the 3-way appetizer mezza for $39 (before tax), and what we got looked like a kid-sized sampler. No bread included--who serves mezza without pita bread?! And to top it off, they charge $7 for just 3 pieces of pita. Be ready to pay extra for the most basic thing that should come with it. The beef shawarma plate was $26 (before tax) and came with a tiny piece of bread topped with the meat and some tahini on the side. No sides. None. I have never been to a restaurant that serves main entrées without at least a side of rice, salad, or something. I also ordered a side of French fries for $8, and they literally gave me seven fries. Seven. I've never seen anything like it. Then there was the sayadiyeh plate for $46. Seriously, why?! It was just fish and rice, and the portion of fish wasn't even enough for a child. On top of the overpriced, underwhelming food, the payment screen basically forces you to tip a set percentage. Tipping should always be optional and based on service, not forced by the restaurant. The whole thing was such a letdown. Great service, yes, but the food quality, portion sizes, and prices are outrageous. Never again. read more

Ammatoli is a standout Mediterranean restaurant in Downtown Long Beach, perfect for a date night or special gathering. The ambiance feels upscale yet intimate, and the food is consistently delicious. I highly recommend making reservations because this place is always busy. I booked online, and it was a seamless experience. We parked in a nearby structure, which was just a quick five-minute walk. It was a cold night, so I was relieved our reservation guaranteed indoor seating--walk-ins were seated outside, but there were heating lamps. A thoughtful touch: I mentioned in my reservation that we were celebrating a friend's birthday, and the restaurant had a cute birthday card waiting on the table! We shared the hummus and pita bread, and both were excellent. The hummus had a smooth, nutty flavor, and the pita bread (3 pieces) was incredibly soft and pillowy. For my entrée, I ordered the spicy garlic lemon chicken, which was a huge portion. It only comes with rice as a side so I recommend trying any of the numerous appetizers. The lemon sauce and garlic sauce were both packed with flavor and complemented the dish perfectly. Service was attentive throughout the meal, adding to the overall great experience.
