Small cone (lemon sorbet and mango sorbet)
    Tyler S.

Great place for gelato and sorbet! I got a small cone with two flavors: lemon and mango. The lemon sorbet tasted like I was eating a frozen lemonade and the mango sorbet had a strong mango flavor. They have free samples and the service was good! There is seating inside and outside.

While visiting San Francisco's Union Square, I wanted to enjoy a sweet treat, but being a visitor, I didn't know firsthand where to go. A quick internet search brought up lots of results for dessert shops, but it wasn't really clear which was better than the other at a glance. There are no shortage of bakeries, ice cream and gelato spots...many with favorable reviews. With so many to chose from decided to search photos and was pleasantly surprised by the images from the business Amorino's. I was stunned by the beautiful presentation of their gelato in the form of a beautiful flower. They stood out from the pack immediately and I had to go see (and taste) for myself. I'm so glad I did...from the moment I walked in the staff was pleasant and welcoming. They answered my questions (and I had a lot because there were so many flavors to choose from). When I finally ordered, my cone looked just like a beautiful flower and tasted like a dream! Excellent choice and a must visit when I return to SF!

This cute little gelato cafe is right in front of china town. There were three workers behind the counter but none of them greeted us as we came in (the last customers were leaving & we were the only ones who came in at that moment). So I already didn't feel welcome. Luckily, there was a kiosk where you can order. I always find that super convenient because I can take my time looking :). One of our orders was incorrect (they gave us one scoop when it should've been three different ones). Because we luckily had our receipt, they corrected it. I ordered the stracciatella & mint chocolate chip. I find the consistency to be more icy than creamy which is what I look for when eating gelato. Still flavorful though so we were happy with it! 7/10.

Been craving for this ice cream since my husband bought me a cup last week. So we went to the city & as soon as saw their menu that they do affogato, that is what i ordered & had my gelato to go. Well, taste for the affogato is disappointing:-( and the lady who took our order misunderstood what we want. She was even assisted by her 2 coworkers to help us with our order. I am still excited to taste the 6 flavors we ordered in our 2 small pints Place is clean, had a few seats inside & tables outside.

This place was right next to my hotel, luckily, I only visited them once. It was a little confusing if you don't know the way the order goes. You pay at the register first, then you move down the ice cream display case to pick your flavors. They also allow samplings. And the flower gelato is just adorable. Yum!

What I love about this place is it made delicious ice cream into flower petals! Very unique and the taste is also very good. Perfect for the summer! They also carry various drinks. We ordered the Gourmet Latte which is very creamy.

We stumbled upon this place right next to our hotel a few weeks back and were thrilled to take advantage of the 10% discount for hotel guests (just show your room card or mention it at the register, easy!). Walking in, the ordering process is a little unclear, even after two visits, I'm still not 100% sure of the "right" way to do it, lol. But don't let that stop you! They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, and while the indoor area is a bit cozy, I love that you have options so you're not stuck outside when the weather isn't cooperating. Now, onto the good stuff - the gelato! My go-to is Stracciatella and I happily stuck with it both visits. My first time, I was in a bit of a rush (checkout waits for no one!) so I went with a cup. Big mistake, not because of the gelato, but because I had NO idea they do the most adorable flower/rose design on a cone. Super IG-worthy and honestly reason enough to come back, which I did! On my second visit, I went for the Small Signature, which comes topped with a macaron and your choice of 2 flavors. I only wanted Stracciatella they doubled up on that. The pistachio macaron was a touch softer than I prefer but still totally yums. The gelato itself? Absolutely delicious and honestly, it's hard to go wrong with good gelato! My husband got a Small Pistachio in a cup and I naturally had to sneak a taste. It was a lovely, well-balanced flavor - not overpowering at all, which is a win since pistachio can sometimes go too heavy. If I find myself in the area with a gelato craving, I'm absolutely swinging by for my fix!

    Gourmet hot chocolate

Amorino is a tiny shop that prides itself in imported, fresh and organic ingredients as seen by the posters that adorn the walls inside. Right away when you walk in, you are greeted by the sweet aroma of chocolate and gelato. As it was chilly night, I went for the gourmet hot chocolate. The flavor profile of the drink is very rich, heavy and sweet so if you're not the biggest sweet tooth, this might not be the right choice for you. I loved the crunchy toppings with the light, whipped cream that complimented the deep chocolate flavor. The drink was very warm and comforting which I loved. I can't wait to come back and try more of their menu.

Review #981 Posted on 1.4.26 We came here for dessert after dinner on NYE 2025. This spot is on the block next to the Chinatown entrance, literally across the street. I was pretty amazed, when we got to the entrance it had a line out the door to get in, you look inside, only 2 guys working. These 2 guys were unreal, I can't believe they were running things by themselves with that many people and that much demand. The gelato was excellent, they had lots of options, both fruit & chocolate flavors. I tried the mango, dulce de leche, & chocolate hazelnut, which was unreal, basically like having Nutella gelato. I'd 100% come back here when in the area.

Ordered a small ice cream cone with pistachio, blueberry cheesecake and Alphonso mango sorbet flavors. Impressed by the taste, and the presentation by the staff. There's space inside to sit and enjoy your desserts - they also serve waffles and milkshakes, along with other desserts.

4.5 star My friend and I came in on a Thursday night, and it wasn't as busy (got very busy after we left). I got the classic cup with 2 flavors: vanilla & stracciatella. My friends got yogurt, coconut, and strawberry but yogurt was definitely the highlight. I personally liked the vanilla as it wasn't too sweet. Stracciatella was great too--I loved the pieces of dark chocolate. I honestly should've gotten more flavors to try, but I was maybe overwhelmed with so many different options (a positive thing). There were a few seating areas which is nice for chatting. Would definitely come back to try more flavors!

On a hunt for a sweet treat, and Amorino was around the corner from us, and we decided to give it a try despite it being a rainy day in San Francisco. We got here at around 6:45, and there was no line. I decided to get the chocolate hazelnut gelato with a waffle cone, and they served it as a cute flower! The gelato was well balanced, and tasted like nutella. It was unsettling quiet inside the shop, so it felt a bit awkward being the only people eating inside, but definitely a great spot to check out if you're looking for a sweet treat that's open late in downtown SF

It's cold outside and besides hello and maroons, they have Hot Chocolate! The chocolate gelato is dark, rich and creamy. Paired with blueberry cheesecake, we have fruity tart and semi-sweet! Good service with seating inside.

They are a neighborhood favorite, a long time staple for many years on Taraval Street…read more Last winter, I met some friends for breakfast/brunch in the Sunset and they mentioned wanting to get a few things from Gus' on Noriega. It'd been ages since I've been in the area, literally decades. After shopping there, we walked to the popular bakery on the other side of the street on the next block. While my friends walked in to browse, I notice the name of this store two doors west, learning where they relocated. Being full, I wasn't interested in eating or bringing anything home at the time but I made a mental bookmark of the location. Eight months later, my friend texted me, with summer upon us, that she had an ice cream craving. Since I was in the area for a vet appointment and was done early, I made my way here. Arriving just before 3 pm on Friday, I took a few photos before sharing them with a friend and studied the menu. My friend shared her order for two different flavors and I asked to sample a flavor before deciding on mine, all take home pints. Several days later, I started with my sesame ice cream (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=0&select=sicRvcpCYIgfLIjQfePgVg). This was the flavor that I tried in-store and the helpful gal there told me it is her favorite flavor. I enjoyed the intense flavors and there was no mistaking the sesame. Do note that the texture of the ice cream is what won me over as it stayed consistently frozen as I spooned it into my mouth. It is not overly rich yet it is thick and the texture remains consistent. I also tried the guava ice cream (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=c9t2lg6R6dvZ4p9yNawsUA). Consistent with the sesame ice cream, I enjoyed the feel of it and the guava flavors were on point with being overly sweet. Again, I rationed myself to 1/3rd of the container per sitting since I had this after dinner. Given my timing, it isn't surprising that I was the only customer throughout my purchase. Thank you to Jaz for the recommendation and your patience in waiting as I got my friend's order and decided on mine. As I crossed the street to my car, I noticed three officers from SFPD walking in. It's good to see neighborhood locals supporting this local business. I look forward to returning before the summer ends. After all, what goes better with the summer than ice cream.

The real charm of this place comes from the story; we read about it while waiting in line and were absolutely captivated by the story of love, community, and heritage that shapes Hila. Wowowow …read more... Visited Alimento twice, my most recent being today -- 6/27. It's a small deli shop that offers gelato, sandwiches, and pastries. They also have quite a large selection of alcohol and cigarettes-- which could make for a good quick pick-me-up. I visited on a Wednesday night and got myself a cone with two scoops of Hazelnut Brownie + Stracciatella -- which were honestly so yummy. It was stretchy and soft and made for a perfect dessert after dinner. You are allowed only two samples though so be wary of your choices. Today, when I went -- I was excited to try their sandwiches, I was looking at the menu and the Alpino caught my eye. Normally, not a fan of bacon but this sandwich was fresh- the mix they offer in sauces and veggies were so good. The sandwich was refreshing to eat with a decent amount of turkey slices they packed in. The bread was also toasted and gave a nice crunch with a soft interior to every bite. The sandwich is admittedly a little pricey, but I would purchase again. Now the customer service, like other reviews may have mentioned was a little off at times? It didn't feel friendly or welcoming at times and when I was ordering I felt rushed or ignored-- I was trying to order two sandwiches to which, she immediately began to make the first one without a single word. I chose to wait until she was done because I wasn't sure when I could let her know about the other order as she was moving back and forth between stations, but she finished and I let her know about the other order to which she said, "How many more sandwiches?" Honestly, that comment did throw me off a little, but I told her this was the last one and she did make it quite quickly. Now, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt as she could be tired or not feeling the best-- but I would say I just wished she was a bit more acknowledgeable toward the customers behind the counter as it did make me discomforted by her lack of response and also the reaction she had when I let her know about the other sandwich. She did at least tell me to have a good day afterwards, so I do hope this isn't going to be a reoccurring incident as I really do love coming to Alimento for the gelatos and sandwiches. (~_~;) I would recommend coming here if you're visiting around North Beach! Alimento makes for a great lunch spot with their sandwiches or a nice sweet treat with their gelato. ^o^

Located directly at the corner of Union St/Buchanan St in the heart of the Marina, this wildly popular place that is owned and operated by Italians has been in operation dating back to early-2018. The hours of operation here are quite generous as they're open daily from 10:30am-9:30pm with extended hours until 10:30pm on Friday & Saturday. The interior layout is small yet big enough to showcase several items for purchase; whole & ground coffee, jams, spreads, snacks, and even pasta sauces. And if gelato isn't your thing, they also have quite a bit of Italian cookies and desserts for purchase. Finally, if you wish to enjoy your gelato before it melts, they also offer a couple of small tables & chairs inside as well as one public restroom. Now onto the gelato itself! Much of their gelato is dairy-free & vegan plant-based with some of their gelato offering the addition of sugar, water and/or milk. They offer 4 different sizes (kids, small, medium, large) in either a cup or cone. And if you're thinking outside of the box, they also have a nice variety of espresso drinks as well as fresh pastries that are baked daily. Since I wasn't too hungry (after a big dinner), I went with a kids size cone of their "Italian Crema". This was a rich, velvety texture of creamy deliciousness. And since it was considering a 'kids' size, I didn't feel too guilty enjoying this. I will say that the customer service here was top notch as the employees allowed me to sample a few gelatos prior to narrowing down my selection. The prices are also quite reasonable as they are lower than some of the other places in San Francisco as well as gelato spots I've been to in Los Angeles and New York. With a charming interior setup, prime location, and delicious gelatos, I am giving "GIO Gelati" a perfect five-star rating.
