Went there for dinner. Started with Chicken Avgolemino Soup - delicious! My wife had the Mousaka. I had the lamb Souvlaki dinner on pilaf - very tasty! I think the high point was the Galaktoboureko - soft and custardy on the inside, with crunchy Filo pastry on top. To die for! Yum. I ate lunch here with my wife, mom, and kids. We started with the calamari app, and it was awesome. We ordered a kids meal that consisted on chicken and rice; it came out quickly and was a great, healthy option for the little ones. I had an eggplant sandwich that was amazing, and my wife and mom both had sandwiches they thought were excellent. We also ordered the spinach appetizer thing that all greek restaurants serve, but this one was the best one I've eaten. Had lunch here today with my sister and two cousins. Great food and service! The meals took a little longer than expected, but that was ok due to the wonderful conversation with relatives I only get to see once a year when I am here visiting from Indiana, and the taste definitely made the food worth the wait. My girlfriend treated me to my birthday lunch here today and it was so good that I had to write this review as soon as we got back. It's a small place but they have enough seating for maybe 20-25 people. Outdoor seating too. I got their iced green tea (I'm not sure if it's brewed on premises or brought in from a company but it was so good and fresh!), and we split the Tzatziki and pita as an appy, and then for our entrees I got the vegetarian gyro and my friend got a steak/meat gyro with a side of fries. Oh. My. God. The tzatziki was perfectly balanced with garlic, lemon, and cucumber and was soooo ahhhhmazing. The fresh pita they serve with it is out of this world. Our gyros were super good and HUGE! The star of the meal were the fries, as silly as they sound. They were ridiculously crunchy on the outside but perfectly soft/tender on the inside. They are seasoned so well and have the teensy-tiniest bit of a kick to them. Our waitress was so sweet and very attentive. We were in and out within the hour during a busy lunch rush. They had delicious dessert options but we were too stuffed to eat anything else. Prices are very reasonable for the portions of food you get. I had wanted to get over to this place for a while and I finally did and the positive reviews are all correct. Quality Mediterranean food is spread really thin in my immediate area so to have this gem close by is great. Amphora offers a great selection of Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, they have a nice outdoor seating area, a solid wine list, and their ownership/service is very friendly. I tried the smoked caviar spread off the cold plates appetizer menu and it was divine. Cucumbers and onion mixed in a creamy whipped salty cheese with amazing seasoned pita for dipping. It was about 7$ and a small portion but it's something I'll order every time I go, all the ingredients/flavors/textures combine to make for one of the best bites I've ever had. As I was finishing that I ordered a glass of the house red blend which I was told was great, and it was perfect. The acidity was low and the finish was very subtle. Last thing I ordered was a Greek salad with their house seasoned chicken on it. While I waited they brought me some fried egg plant on the house, which was very cool and delicious! It basically took on the flavor of a sweet potato fry when cut very thin and crisped up. The salad was large and the chicken inside was well portioned and tasty. Came in here on a whim. The atmosphere was good, the music wasn't drowning out conversation. The service was on point and the food was great. Only downside was the portions could have been a bit bigger, but that could also mean the food was that good that I wanted more. I'd definitely would stop by again. Simply amazing. The waitresses are friendly and knowledgable. Peter the owner treats everyone like they are family, making rounds to every table in the place. He is constantly coming up with new dishes on the specials. I went in the other day and he asked me to try his new salad with pear and fig and raspberry dressing. Incredible! I haven't eaten a bad speck of food yet...and I'm working my way down the menu! Thus far, the fried feta and the fried eggplant appetizers are simply fantastic and so different from anything elsewhere. The steak tip souvlaki and pita sandwiches are SOOO good! I couldn't believe how tasty the shrimp skewers were, so perfectly cooked! Best yet are the Oh My God desserts in the case out front. Baklava Cheesecake, Ouzo cake and rice pudding among others. I mean...Really? I can't say enough about this local establishment. Derry is lucky to have this place in it's town limits. One of my favorite restaurants. The meals are prepared from family recipes. Fresh ingredients, amazing flavors, just delicious. The Amphora menu is one where you don't just have one favorite, you have many, trying different plates with each visit. Limoncello Margarita is out of this world, just incredible. If you're looking for authentic Greek dining look no farther, amphora in Derry hits the spot. My only reservations about this place is just that, don't bother with reservations or "call ahead seating", mainly because the place is actually pretty small but they make it work. The waitress staff is nice and the food is beyond amazing. I always have chicken, whether it be in my salad on a sandwich or as a main dish, there's only been one time the chicken was dry, once ever. A bit pricey but worth it if you're looking for authentic Greek food. Grape leaves are on point and the lemon roasted potatoes are from the heavens. If you have a little extra dough to spend for dinner, spend it on this place. Would be 5 stars but, price is a factor here. read more

We were so pleasantly surprised with this restaurant! The food was delicious, authentic and something different from the norm. Our waitress was very nice, the atmosphere was also very clean and relaxed. They had great cocktails although per glass wine selection was limited to only a handful of Greek only wines. After discovering I wasn't a Greek wine lover, I had the best mojito. You should plan on trying their cheesy melted appetizer ( forgot the name). It was great. Just couldn't stay away. I knew that after our initial experience, and after we had an opportunity to try other dishes, we would end up loving this place. Bustling and busy but server was warm and friendly, without making us feel rushed, (well, until the end of the meal when we knew that they needed our table for a larger party). It was crowded, all tables occupied, and we had to wait a half an hour to be seated, so expect a wait on busy nights. Place is clean and comfortable, though, and you don't feel like you hear everyone else's conversations, so the tables are given enough space for diners to be comfortable. The food is just great, really exceptional. Lamb Souvlaki, Combination Grill, Mousaka, Humus,Shrimp Porto-Lago,Eggplant Sto-Fourno, all really good. Nicely flavored. Desserts are just right. Hot food comes out really fresh and hot. Seems like they're opening a bar next door, as server had to keep going next door for the beers, but they were good. Something has changed; disappointing. Had previously been here with special friends and for special occasions; always had been a treat. That changed when I came with my husband 6PM Saturday night to celebrate our anniversary. We ordered dolmades (grape leaves) and hummus with a veggie plate as appetizers. The veggie plate was scant, and the hummus lacked flavor we had remembered from previous visits (last about 6 mos ago). The waitress then brought our entrees immediately. Mine was grilled veggie skewers on rice which sat at the edge of the table and got cold while we finished eating our appetizers. Unpleasant music blaring and unpleasant dining experience. When ordering, had told waitress I cannot eat gluten, and also that my husband and I would be sharing the large Greek salad. When the salad came, it had a large pita on top, rather than gluten-free pita. Mid-through the entree, the waitress comes by with the hot water for my tea, which we'd requested three times during the ordering process that it please be brought with the main course. So I refused it, told her no longer wanted. The skewered veggies were charred,but undercooked. The Greek salad was really nothing special. We felt the meals were overpriced (we'd never felt that way before). Obviously something different going on here at this restaurant. The waitstaff seemed a bit distracted and confused as they were training a new waitress and she explained to a neighboring table that this Saturday night was here first time. It's not impossible to get delicious, cheap and healthy lunch. Any of the lunch specials are amazing and all under 10 bucks the chicken sandwich being my favorite I believe is 7 dollars. The owner is one of the nicest most friendly guys you'll meet and all his staff is very friendly and attentive. Saganaki is also a favorite appetizer, who doesn't love to load up pita with hot cheese and anything meat related is always cooked to perfection. You truly can't go wrong here easily the best restaurant in Derry and the only downside really is the building is small and with them being so popular they fill up fast but if you want something different go to Amphora lunch or dinner. read more

I was up in New Hampshire this weekend and experienced Amphora. If I had to choose three words to describe the visit they would be; delightful, plentiful, and intangible. It was a delightful experience from the first step in the door to the last step out. I was greeted by not only a friendly wait staff but the owner as well come to find out. Seated immediately we were taken care of the entire time. The food was plentiful and impressively delicious. Amphora isn't a place that prepares food and freezes it for a week or so, this is fresh, home style, made to order, quality food your caring Mother would prepare for you. I was with a family member who brought me, and he mentioned take a look around at the tables, you notice something? No looking from the right angle I said no, things look normal. I was then enlightened there were no salt or pepper shakers on the tables. Why you might ask? Because this menu has been perfected over time. Spices just right, meals cooked to the right temperature and meats tendered to a science. The last word, intangible comes from the warm welcome and conversation held by the owner. There are some things you can't put a price on in experiences such as a few kind words from the man who ultimately is receiving your dollar. His name is Peter and it was nice to see him actively involved in his business. I highly recommend this place even if you haven't experienced Greek style food such as myself until today. After traveling to Greece for my honeymoon, I was craving scrumptous greek food. I read the reviews for Amphora, so I thought i would give it a whirl. I have eaten there twice and boths times I was pleased. The Saganaki, Gyro, and Feta Fries are NOM NOM NOM... Also there Frappe is SPOT ON, and keeps my coming back for more. Also, they carry Mythos (greek beer) and alot of wine from the Vinyards we visited in Santorini. The place doesnt look like much from the outside (located in a strip mall). The inside is clean, warm, and the staff is very friendly and welcoming. If you are a fan on greek food, you must check this place out! read more

Loved this restaurant. We were driving from Boston to Vermont, and had to stop for lunch. This place was off Hwy 93, had to back track a couple miles but it was worth it. We had eggplant frites as an appetizer (very good), a falafel wrap (big & tasty) and the mousaka special with a house salad. Food was fast, seasoned to perfection and well cooked. Everything for $32. Not sure what happened here. We just left and had the worst lunch we've had in a long time. Must be new owners or something because it was not the experience we had previously. The hummus was watery slop. The fried pita was soggy so I sent it back, got back another soggy order. WTF? The moussaka was so dry it was inedible. Service was terrible and hardly anyone was there. Came here on a Saturday afternoon after they had just opened. Greeted by friendly smiles and amazing aromas coming out of the kitchen. Waitress was all smiles and very informative. Amphora is, without a doubt a "hidden gem" and they always get it right. My family and I have been here several times and have dined in, as well as gotten takeout. From steak, chicken and pork dinners, to appetizers and sides, we have never had a bad experience here. The staff is exceptionally friendly, the food is worth going out of the way for, and prices are appropriate for portion sizes.
