After being severely disappointed by another local restaurant, my girlfriend and I swung in here on a whim to see if they had coffee. They did, and it was actually pretty good considering they aren't a coffee shop. Reading the other reviews for this place, I must say that I haven't had 'authentic' Greek food before this place, but regardless of that fact the food here was delicious and I definitely want to go back for more. The service was more than I had hoped for at this time; I had just received really, really bad service at another restaurant and as we walked in the girl behind the counter came out and asked what we wanted, that sort of thing. We told her we just wanted a coffee and she immediately helped us out. Then, without even asking, the manager (who introduced himself as Peter) gave us free samples. I couldn't tell you what they were called, since all of the names of the food are in Greek, but luckily they have very easy to read descriptions of all of their plates and they aren't anything to be afraid of. Don't listen to these reviews about the gyro meat being processed or whatever. The manager said that it's a mix of lamb and hamburger and the food is made in house. It's all fresh, it's all hot, and it's all good. I recommend the eggplant, red pepper, and garlic dip or the whipped feta cheese and yogurt dip. We just dined here tonight for the first time. We found the food really excellent -- two appetizers, two entrees, and we split a dessert. The owner and staff are very upbeat, professional, and attentive. We've both traveled extensively, and we eat out two - four nights per week in NH and Boston area. Amphora is our new favorite. I am a tough critic when it comes to Greek food. Its one of my favorite things to go out for, and I don't get to have it often. So after multiple recommendations for Amphora, I finally decided to try it. I wasn't disappointed. I went early for dinner on a weeknight and was seated right away. As someone who semi-regularly eats alone to use the time for work or catching up on reading, I am always appreciative when I am seated promptly without judgement about being alone. My waitress was quite friendly and attentive without rushing me. I got a wrap later in the week to go as well, and had an equally good experience. The food however was the shining star. I had the thracian chicken wrap with feta. It was good sized, reasonably priced, and UTTERLY DELICIOUS. The tzatziki was fresh, garlicky, and the stuff that dreams are made of. The pita was perfectly warm and chewy, and not too bready. The chicken itself had great, spiced flavor. There was also plenty of it. This is my new go-to lunch place as someone who works in Derry. I've already recommended it to multiple folks this week. Looking forward to trying more of their delicious offerings. Run, do not walk to Amphora when in Derry at meal times. read more

The eggplant frites are the thing everyone raves about here, and for good reason! They are delicious. I've eaten here a handful of times since moving to the area and it is one of my go-to spots. Found this place by accident and decided to try it out. My husband and I went for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. The staff was very friendly and service oriented. A great new addition to Derry. This is the best Greek food I've ever had. The moussaka was delicious, the fish in filo excellent, and the gyro and vegetarian sandwiches also great. Decided to try this place after reading alot of positive reviews on Yelp and felt like a nice Greek salad for lunch. Came here for a late lunch. The dip sampler was fantastic with pita bread. The salads however were a bit disappointing. The Gyro salad was foodservice Gyro slices instead of homemade like other Greek restaurants like Brothers Kouzina in Peabody. You get 3 slices of Gyro and it's basically a processed meatloaf with spices. Wife had the steak tip Greek salad and the steak tips were very small and average at best. The dressing they use on the salad and the steak tips were a bit over powering. Just wasn't memorable... Service was very good. Waitress was very friendly, informative and knew the menu and checked back often but never obtrusive. Not sure I'd go back due to the salads ordered. Giving it 3 Stars. read more

This place really killed it with authentic Greek food. We ordered the saganaki as an appetizer, it was delicious! seemed to be a fan favorite so we gave it a shot. Melted cheese with a lemon sauce mixture. Tons of flavor and the homemade pita that came with it was spectacular. I order a gyro, was dying for one and thought this would be the perfect place. Boy was I right! Homemade pita and taziki sauce with grilled eggplant, does not get much better in the gyro world. Also ordered the Greek style lasagna which was extremely moist and flavorful. Amphora is my go-to restaurant in Derry. I have never had a bad dish here. Some of the highlights include the fried feta, which is warm, salty, and delicious, the eggplant frites, and the Thracian Chicken, which is seasoned to perfection. The house salad dressing is also superb, and the warm pita bread tops it all off. I haven't tried any of the desserts, but I plan to on my next visit, which will be soon! read more

A great Greek restaurant in the middle of small town New Hampshire. Try the fried eggplant as an appetizer absolutely delicious. The meat and spinach pie apps are also very good. I had more lettuce than I knew what to do with, Asked for their house dressing on the side it was like pure olive oil. (tasteless). I work across the street from this place and decided to walk over and check it out. It was a bright sunny day and the staff and owner I believe were just as bright and sunny! What a great little place! I had the house Greek salad with chicken and the house dressing which was tangy but sweetly Greek! Wonderful seasoning on the grilled chicken. VERY VERY fresh ingredients! The restaurant itself is very esthetically pleasing and has a NYC vibe. They do sell wine and beer and are open for dinners as well as lunch fare and great Greek food! Two family members and I finally got to try Amphora. As mentioned in other reviews, This is a cafe-style restaurant in a strip mall. Despite that, the room is warm and inviting with decor that invites reflection and sets the tone for an enjoyable Mediterranean dining experience We have been interested in checking out their food based on Yelp reviews and their vegetarian options. The Eggplant Frites were a tasty appetizer. They are listed as "Fresh eggplant lightly breaded and fried, sprinkled with our Amphora seasonings," and lived up to the billing. Served with a yogurt dipping sauce, they were a great start. For entrees we enjoyed 1) Charbroiled Vegetable Ka-Bobs Two skewers of grilled peppers, artichokes, squash, zucchini, mushrooms, and onions marinated and served over white rice 2) Grilled Chicken Platter Thracian style chicken marinated in Amphora seasonings. Served over rice pilaf 3) Mahi Mahi Porto-Lago Grilled Mahi Mahi brushed with spicy rosemary-lemon marinade. Served over rice pilaf The pilaf was fresh and tasty. The portion of the vegetable kabobs was large, lots of delicious veggies on two skewers. The portions of Mahi Mahi and Thracian Chicken were good-sized and flavorful. Our only quibble was the table service. For example, the house salad. It was a treat for the eyes and two of our three diners enjoyed it. The third diner mentioned a distaste for dressing and the waitress offered to serve it on the side. Unfortunately, the dressing was applied thoroughly to all three salads and no mention was made why the dressing wasn't served on the side when the salad was delivered to table or when the untouched salad was removed from the table. For a five-star dining experience we would expect attentiveness and follow through on the details. Otherwise this was a fine outing with delicious food in a comfortable setting. read more

My wife and I decided at the last minute to give this place a try for dinner. The staff could not have been more pleasant and attentive. They took the time to explain the menu and even offered to give my wife a taste of once of the specials before she ordered it. We both had different dishes that are not on the menu. They came with a great salad with their house Greek dressing along with a piece of grilled pita bread. I had the lamb shank special with roasted potatoes and she had grilled chicken breast in a spice mixture topped with watermelon. Both dishes could not have been more tasty. We ended the meal with their homemade rice pudding. They even offered to warm it up for us as they normally serve it cold. We were very pleased with the dining experience and will definitely go back. The prices are more than reasonable. Add that and the accommodating and friendly staff, and you have a restaurant that should be around for a long, long time! I've been hearing good things about Amphora for a while, but only just made it there tonight. It's a tiny place and has the look and feel of a casual family restaurant. It is billed as "fine Greek dining" but the atmosphere is very casual. The food however, does match that description. It is not a large menu, but has sandwich or full entree choices and the selections I had were expertly prepared. We started with the calamari which had one of the lightest and crispest batters I've ever had. It was seasoned perfectly and the dipping sauce was tasty too. The portion was generous and can easily be shared. Next came the house salad and pita. The dressing on the salad and the herb blend on the toasted pita are house-made and delicious. My friend and I both had the moussaka at the waitress' recommendation. It too was wonderful. It was delicately seasoned, the eggplant was sliced thin, but was still recognizable and the bechamel topping was like eating a cloud. Again, this is a generous portion, we each brought half home. The service was excellent - friendly, helpful and attentive. I will go back soon, or at least get takeout. Can't wait to try other items. One of the absolute best meals I have had. Everything from the food, to the atmosphere, and especially the service was phenomenal. The owner personally came over and welcomed us, our servers were so friendly and knowledgeable, and I can't put into words how good the food was. The icing on the cake was as our server brought our dessert (we had mentioned it was my dad's birthday earlier in the night in passing), they brought his out with a candle and genuinely wished him a happy birthday. This is easily the best food in Derry. If you like authentic Greek food, you probably already know that. If not, I don't know what rock you've been hiding under. The owner is an artist and is always perfecting his craft. I buy their salad dressing for my salads at home and just the other day when I went in the dressing looked different and I asked him about it, and he said he bought an emulsifier to try to make the dressing stick together better. This was already the best salad dressing I have ever tasted, and he was trying to make it better. That spoke volumes to me about a restaurant that I already loved and a restauranteur that I already thought very highly of. If you are in the area, do yourself a favor and visit amphora. read more
