As an avid butter chicken enthusiast, I can safely say, this is the best butter chicken I've ever had in my life. I'm not exaggerating. I hate to admit it, but it was even better than the butter chicken my mom makes at home. The taste and the experience was so memorable. We were seated right away, and while the food did take a little longer than expected, it was 100% worth the wait. We were just passing through the town when we came across this place, but I'm so glad we stopped to eat here. I absolutely love this place. I've been many times and I'm never disappointed. Today my husband and I enjoyed a vindaloo and a butter chicken. Both were excellent. We tried the chili naan for the first time. The spice was perfect. All the flavors are amazing. The dal soup comes with your lunch and it is the perfect start. I should have taken a picture of our meals, but we dove in too quickly. RESTAURANT REVIEW: We decided to stop at Indian restaurant Amrit Palace while shopping in Ocala. There is no such restaurant in The Villages and we were really craving Indian food. Boy, am I glad we did. The food was delicious; every bit as good as back home. We started with dal soup, a mild but flavorful split pea, ginger and garlic option. We then split two appetizers--vegetable samosas and samosa chaat (potato turnovers with chickpeas, onions, yogurt, tamarind, and mint). I preferred the vegetable samosas even though I know some people find them dry. I thought they were very flavorful and nicely crispy. My husband and son preferred the samosa chaat which was good, but a bit too spicy for me. For entrees, we had navrattan korma, (cauliflower, potato, peppers, snow peas, cashews, and raisins), which was creamy and absolutely delicious; aloo gohbi, (cauliflower, potato, and green peas), which was a bit dry but still good and chicken tikka masala, (chicken, tomato, peppers, onions, ginger, and garlic), which was also creamy and very tasty. All three entrees were served over rice. The rice was average but one of the real stars of the show for me was the garlic cheese naan which was simply the best naan I've ever had. If you like Indian food, put this on your list of places to visit. The decor is modern Indian and the service is friendly and prompt. This place is authentic, has a very nice ambiance and decor and very friendly waiters. There were also many Indians dining here, which you know is a good sign. We tried the dal soup, the eggplant entree and vegetable tikka masala - a special order on my behalf. Along with the garlic naan and a roti bread. There was not one morsel left on the table. They do not serve you those thin thin lentil crackers most Indian restaurants do, which is fine as I don't particularly care for them anyhow. Damn. This place was not a joke. Got the chicken tikka masala and the methi malai veggie dish, both were spicy and creamy and everything you want in a good Indian takeout order. The onion mulch's and garlic naan were also on point. I'm only sad that this place isn't a little closer to Gainesville, but not so far away that I can't make it for a nice dinner here and there. This time around I just got takeout so I can't speak to the dining experience much, but the decor in the restaurant was nice and the takeout service was lovely. We even asked for some extra onions and chili peppers on the side and they were quick to help us out. I will definitely be back - they have an extensive menu and I can't wait to try some of the more off the beaten path dishes. Being the only Indian restaurant in the area, it seems like they have let themselves go completely. I have been there twice and have been completely disappointmented both times. Imagine going and buying $50 worth of food driving 80 miles to and back, and then having to end up going to the kitchen afterall. The food that we got were chicken biryani, tika masala and butter chicken. The curries were very disappointing. I would know, I am asian. The curries tasted raw, like they weren't cooked enough. I could taste the raw masalas and the ginger in it. I had to cook it down before I could eat it. People usually get take out to avoid the kitchen. They missed the mark both times. I don't hold high standards when eating out because nothing beats a home cooked meal, but their food was abysmal. I feel bad for who think their food is good. I have to start by saying I have taken 2 trips to this restaurant and both times I left so happily full! We were seated right away both times and someone came immmediately to take our drink order. We ordered the vegetable samosas to start and they were delicious! We couldn't wait for the main course. Now we are not into very spicy food and knowing that indian food can really lean to spicy we decided to tread lightly and order mild butter chicken and chicken tikka masala. Even mild they were so full of flavor! We took the nann that we ordered as a side and were just scooping up the sauce. It was perfectly seasoned, creamy and delicious. I wish they would bottle their butter chicken sauce because I would put that on a shoe and eat it! Severs and only who I can assume were the owners checked on us multiple times and made sure we were taken care of. I had an early dinner here on 6-15-2022 with a former trainee and his wife. It had been a number of years since we'd seen each other in person, but we were recognizable. LOL. I'm a pretty basic eater. Nothing too fancy. Nothing too spicy. I was up for Indian food because I have had it before and it was fine. Amrit does a good job on the food too. Plenty of it. Hot to the touch, which is important. I had chicken and rice as my main courses. Both were good. Seasoned pretty good too. I did put a little sauce on my chicken and rice too. The bread was even better. I could have just eaten that and been satisfied....almost!! Our server was good too, but I don't recall his name. The inside of the restaurant was nicely decorated too. Very authentic looking. The only issue was before I got into the restaurant with a parking situation. I think the guy was looking to have his family cash in his insurance policy! The garlic naan was not as garlic-y as I wanted, but it was fresh and warm and chewy. The Chicken Tika Masala was RICH, thick, well flavored, and almost creamy! Even though they guaranteed me it had no dairy products in it, and I didn't have a reaction. It was a little pricey...I've definitely had better, for less.
