The Air handler condensation water pan was over flowing in the ceiling. What started as a minor wet spot has now become a nightmare. He told me to clean out the pipes. So I did, but still water backing up. So he recommended a pump. A few days later his guys came and started, but they brought the wrong cover pipe, so had to leave. They plugged in the pump but did check to ensure it was the correct voltage. I am not a licensed electrician but this seems to be an oversight. Then they left without checking if the pump was running correctly. A few hours later we smell smoke and water was pour out of the ceiling. They had cut both the primary and alternate over flow lines. And the pump wasn't working, so the water had no place to go. I contacted them that night (Friday) and they said Al would come Saturday later after. Saturday came a went, next they said Al would come Monday afternoon. Monday came and went. Then I ask when will someone come. They said Tuesday morning. Finally, the two guys that installed it the first time came. They discover the pump was burnout. They departed to get a new pump. Installed the pump and told me it was working. I ask when will the water stop leaking. The answer, when the residual water is gone. So what started as a wet spot is now massive water damage. Now they stick me with labor and the price of two pumps. Also now need to figure out how to get all this water damage fixed. Crazy because it has been 3 hours and still leaking water. I mentioned that they should have checked first before leaving the first time. Al's answer sorry no warranty on the pump. I inform Al to just bill me and our future business dealings are over and he says I lost his respect. Really??? Okay, fair enough. I hope he can be successful with that type of business model and behavios. I seriously wouldn't recommend this company to anyone or any other business. AMV overprices and under delivers. AMV's business culture is built on greed, aloofness, and incompetence. Please be warned and take your business elsewhere. Getting my condo A/C repaired was a very frustrating experience. I had six different companies look at it over a 5 month period of time and was told everything from "it can't be fixed" to "I can fix it for $5000 but it might not be any better". We have used this company before and received excellent service! Recently our A/C unit stopped working, so we tried to schedule an appointment with AMV, but they were not available on that day. So we reluctantly called another A/C company who was able to come out and take a look at the unit. We watched this technician take a part a few things, bang on a few things and made some calls, which lead me to believe he didn't know what he was doing. At the end of his almost 2hr appointment he said he would have to replace a broken part of the unit which would cost us $900 for the new part plus a couple of hundred for his time. In addition, the technician advised us that the part would have to be ordered which could take a few weeks to come in!!! We were NOT going to wait a few weeks....so we called AMV again and was able to get an appointment the next day. Al checked the A/C unit and found the problem, which had nothing to do with what the first A/C company assumed was the problem. Al fixed the problem within the hour and we didn't pay close to $900. This business owner has my Yelp account confused with someone else and has violated customer privacy rights multiple times. AMV Air Conditioning: Stellar Professionals! We built a new home, so quite experienced at dealing with contractors. When it came to getting 4 split ACs installed, I was ready to run around trying to protect our new travertine floors and mahogany trim. Instead, AMV protected the floors from ladders and tools and you couldn't even tell they had been there when they were done. I have to say, it was a rare occurrence through our project. They were extremely efficient and very professional. Early in the project, they added venting work for our washer and dryer at a low cost, and exactly how we needed it to fit 2 full-size units into a laundry closet. I don't know much about AC but my husband is a contractor and said their work was top notch. They made time in their schedule to fit our needs. Do you like your electrical bill? We sure didn't. And this was after we had installed PV panels on the roof and gone through the house to try to optimize our electrical usage as much as possible. The biggest culprit, we thought, was our central AC unit which dated back to the time the house was built 10 years ago and was probably a 10 SEER unit. Plus, the set up on our central AC was weird with the thermostat not in the rooms that it was supposed to cool so the temperature control was unreliable. It was time to take action. We talked to our tech that services our AC units and he recommended AMV. We sent Al an email and after some communication glitches (attributable to their changing website), Al came out and measured our rooms and sent us an estimate by email. Our different options were laid out by cost and efficiency. We then changed the parameters of the system that we were looking at and Al quickly sent us a new proposal representing the changes we had asked for. We decided on the system that we wanted and paid 1/2 up front (AMV allows you to charge this to a credit card so you can earn some extra miles or cash back bonus on the purchase). The day came for the install and the crew that came out did their jobs professionally and with respect for our family's time and privacy. We're now enjoying the new system and its better performance and efficiency. There were some minor follow up questions and issues that came up which were quickly addressed by Al despite the holiday season. Would certainly use this company again for any future work that needed to be done. **update So it's two years later and the system that AMV and Al installed is working fine. Our other unit now has gone out and we've been trying to get Al to give us a proposal to replace this central AC unit for the last 3-4 months and 3 emails and a phone call later, no response. If they were too busy to do the job, I would have appreciated at least a call or email to let me know, I would have understood. Will leave 3 stars up for the job they did before but will drop their rating down for their poor communication currently (sigh). Off to find a new AC company. read more

They were nice and price was competitive, but many mistakes throughout keeps me from ever recommending them. As background, we did a full remodel, demoing down to the studs in most rooms. This allowed AMV to come in, run their plumbing/electrical with no hassle, and leave specific spaces for later mounting of the inside wall units. To do this, they screwed horizontal sections of 2x4 to the wall where they wanted to place the units. Several months later, they arrived for the install, and that's where the incompetence began. First, the 2x4 sections that they left attached--and which were drywalled around--were roughly 34" wide, while the AC units were on 28" wide! So, we now had 6" holes in our walls in 3 rooms! The AMV installer said, "Yeah, that's so-and-so who did that. He does that all the time. We always have to repair walls when he does this." So...then why hasn't he been fired? Or given a tape measure? Of the 4 units we had installed, AMV broke the plastic housing around one and never mentioned it to me. I saw it, asked about it, and the installers response was, "Oh, do you want that to be replaced?" Um, yes, it's a brand new unit and I don't want a chunk of the case missing. Call me crazy, but I had them replace it. They finally had a third-party come by and repair the holes in the wall at their cost, but it was just more hassle. And, they charged my credit card for the final installment weeks before the holes were repaired, which annoyed me since the job wasn't completed. During the process, we also had to wait weeks for the final install of the interior units due to "no units being on the islands," according to AMV. Not sure if that was true or just an excuse. All in all, they were nice, but I wouldn't recommend them based on the headaches, many extra visits, and long delay in getting things done. read more

Over the years I've had the experience of working with AMV and Aldrin on various jobs, including both my client's properties as well as my personal property. When it came time to install a split A/C system in my house, Aldrin assisted me in designing the right system for my wants and needs. I was impressed that we were able to run my 5 unit system (4x ceiling cassette and 1 split unit) off of 1 (large) compressor. The cassette style units are much sleeker and cool extremely well. Although I did run into some maintenance issues after the system was installed, Aldrin stepped up to the plate and took responsibility for a previous employees flawed installation. Aldrin and his crew troubleshot the problems and did the corrective steps to ensure the issues shouldn't occur again. Companies big and small make errors, it's how you correct and deal with those issues that show you the integrity of a company. I recently found Aldrin and his company, AMV, through Yelp when my AC stopped cooling. I had a great experience with AMV from start to finish. They promptly responded to my service request and fit me into an appointment within two days. Aldrin came out to inspect my system personally and quickly diagnosed the problem after conducting several tests on the compressor. He took the time to explain each test he conducted and additionally walked me through the maintenance process to ensure I knew every owner level maintenance that I should be conducting to extend the life of my system. He did a full inspection, repaired, and serviced the system for a very reasonable price. Even more impressive, is that he stands by his work. The system had an issue the next day and he fit me in the next evening after completing his already scheduled appointments for no extra cost. He even followed up with a phone call the next morning to ensure there were no further issues. Our AC has been running perfectly ever since. Strong beginning, poor climax, ending saves the story. I was looking for a company to service my split air system before the summer season rolled around. I wanted to be assured that my air conditioning system would be working at it's finest before the heat wave. I got a call from Bryan/Byron ( I can't recall his name) and he was splendid to talk to. He answered all my questions and I felt confident enough that this company would make me happy. Appointment day came along and one of their techs came and serviced our system. I was at work and my husband said everything was okay. When I got home I noticed that there were nicks in my hard wood floor and my husband said it might have been from the tech's ladder. I was disappointed but got over it quickly. Two days later my husband turned the air conditioner on and he found that the remote wasn't working. Hmmmm. We called the company and was told we needed to purchase a new remote. The remote was ordered and my husband made another appointment with Ama for them to drop off the remote control. I get a call the day before the appointment from the tech that they were at my house to drop off the remote control. Ummm, wrong day yeah bruddah? I told him to leave it in my mailbox since it was a sunny day with no chance of rain. Two days later my husband tries to turn the a/c on and it doesn't work. He calls the company and states his problem. He is told by Ama that there will be an $85 service charge to come to the house and assess the problem. I thought that was crazy and so did my husband. We all went back and forth about the service charge. Our tick with the whole service charge was that the air conditioner was working perfectly fine before the tech touches it. Then after he services it everything goes haywire. Why should we pay for them to assess what's wrong with the unit when it was working fine until their tech touched it? Long story short we said, "fine" and booked the appointment. Day before appointment the tech calls again and says he's there for an appointment. I told him that the appointment was set for the following day and he said, 'well that's what my service order says." I asked him to call his office and double check because my husband and I would not set an appointment for a day none of us would be at the house. *sigh* He calls the office and calls me back and says he will stop by the day after, which was when the appointment was set for originally. Appointment day came and the visit lasted all of 5 minutes to resolve the problem. That last tech really turned a bad story into an okay one. Would I ask them to service my unit again? Before you waste your time and money, call Mr. AL first !! He was very professional and courteous. The previous "handymen" couldn't figure out the problem. Let me tell you, Mr. AL arrived equipped with all the professional tools. He checked the voltage and the wires. Found the problem and re-wired everything properly. A/C is still not working, but that's due to faulty Nest equipmemt. Mr. AL is a miracle worker and fixed the wiring issue !! I definitely recommend him for all of your A/C needs. read more

I found AMV via Lennox's dealer locator and contacted AMV via Yelp's "Request a quote" feature. Let me tell you, AMV is extremely quick in responding when you request a quote. I can't remember the details, but I want to say Aldrin called me within an hour, which left a good impression for me. I was able to schedule an estimate extremely fast even though he knew I may not replace my unit this year (2016). When I mean extremely fast, it means, you request a quote on Friday morning (6/3), get a response within an hour or two, and schedule an appointment the next day. Despite what others have said, he's responsive and answered all my questions and provided a quote in a timely manner. Another plus about AMV that no other contractor provided, was a quote that included the costs savings between your current system and the proposed system. The cost savings really helps you visualize the savings and may help justify spending the money for an efficient system. I ended up creating my own spreadsheet to show the savings based on different SEER systems and different kWh rates. I'll update my post should I go with AMV to replace my 10SEER. read more

Your technicians are very polite and courteous; the people I've spoken to on the phone have been polite and accommodating. You stated I should be "considerate" enough to leave you contact information in order to address the issue; however I left a voicemail on Friday requesting a call back, when the technician(s) did not show up. I didn't expect a call back then (I'm sure that was after business hours for your office), honestly I wasn't expecting a call back until today or tomorrow. I understand services might be behind schedule due to volume of customers, being short staffed....heck even traffic on the road can cause disruptions; we can't necessarily control all of this. What you can control and what I did expect in this instance was a phone call from someone notifying me that the technicians were running late. I would even have appreciated a phone call after the appointment time, explaining WHY it was missed and the opportunity to reschedule. You talk about consideration, yet I had to leave work early enough to get through traffic and travel from one end of the island to another for a missed appointment. So do ME a favor and don't preach to me about consideration or outline how hard running a business as justification when I was not afforded the simple courtesy of a phone call. And certainly don't imply that I am being short sighted or difficult as customer. But I will take you up on the offer to call you since I still have not received response to the voicemail I left. read more

So I got a call someone canceled on them. I needed service and free.qoute to r and r central air unit. Kind lady I spoke to on phone said free qoute. I just wanted freon filled the technician said can't just do that. Oh ok then can I get the free quote. Bottom line did not get anything serviced or freon filled nothing ,didn't even turn on my ac unit in my house to check for a leak. So he got the info, on invoice paper says take info to R and R unit. So when I seen the invoice there were no price nor did he mention anything bout paying. Then got a invoice for 95 dollars. Bought a couple of Nest Thermostats and needed them installed... called my normal A/C service provider but they didn't install it properly as it was blowing hot air... called them back but they stated that they were unsure how to install the thermostats properly... Found AMV through Nest Pro's and they came and not only installed the thermostats properly but also found unknown issues with my A/C and fixed it on the spot... excellent technical knowledge, excellent customer service and communication... Had a Fujitsu split that wasn't working, after they came out a few times and almost $700 later, it still wasn't working, so we had the unit changed. I wasn't even supposed to be off on the day he came, it just so happened that I came home for unrelated reasons. You also mentioned that during my initial call to your wife that she informed me of the labor costs. I can assure you she did not. This is why when the tech came I asked him how much it was going to be, he told me to contact the office. (I asked him again how much it was going to be when he came back for the actual cleaning). I tried contacting the office, left 2 messages and no one called me back before the technicians came back and actually did the work. Believe me, I would have shopped around before paying this much for a cleaning. Another huge issue is about my receipt. I am curious to know where my pink receipt is? Your techs gave me one for the initial visit which had no prices on it (which I have on hand, I am very meticulous when it comes to keeping receipts / important documents). Yet, my pink receipt for the actual work is no where to be found (I can give the benefit of the doubt and say maybe they forgot to give me one). You guys added on the price of everything AFTER I had already signed the invoice. (You can tell the handwriting for the prices is different than the technicians handwriting for the work that was done). I am not trying to swindle my way out of paying you guys. Money is not the issue, the issue is how your company is operated (very shady) and I wanted others to know of the issues I had with your company. I already stated I am more than happy to pay a fair and reasonable price, but this to me is unreasonable especially since I was not aware of the price BEFORE your techs came to do the work. You are publicly shaming customers on yelp and it makes your company appear extremely unprofessional. What I got from this was you apparently think I am stupid for not understanding your prices. How can one understand prices if they were never informed of what your prices were? Also, why bring up the fact you are not a sweat shop? This has no context in your response AT ALL. AMV installed and services my central air unit for the past 14 years. We like their employees workmanship, coming out to our home & taking special care in making sure they clean up after servicing the air unit in our attic & outside our home. Before departing, they let me know how my unit is working. Only once in 14 yrs., we had a problem with our unit & AMV repaired it. To save me money, they recommended I change my own air filter as needed, it's so easy. I usually buy a box of filters from them and do it myself. Did I mention, they'll also deliver the filters to your home. Recently, I misplaced my air con manual, after 14 yrs., so I called AMV & spoke to Al. Within minutes, he emailed the manual to me, talk about excellent service! Mahalo AMV for the 14+ years in continuing to provide my ohana with great central air conditioning service! AMV has been our air conditioning company for over 20 years. I met Aldrin, the owner, at a home improvement show at the NBC about 20 years ago. Impressed by his knowledge and professional presentation, my husband and I decided to have Aldrin install a Mitsubishi ceiling cassette unit in my parents' home and in our home about 3 years later. The unit in our home is still working after 16 years! The unit in my parents' home worked without any problems for all those years and only stopped working a few months ago. Now that it was time to replace that unit, we thought about installing a split system. Kevin, the estimator and drafts person, promptly returned all of my calls and immediately scheduled an appointment. I believe he sent me an estimate for a split system and a ceiling cassette replacement that same day. While I took a few months to get other estimates and to make a decision to have the job done, Kevin did not forget me and still had my information readily available. Since AMV's prices were below another company's, I was very happy to contact Kevin to schedule an installation date. Fortunately, I called at the right time and Kevin was able to schedule an installation date within a few days. The crew of 3 men completed the job in 2 days. While it could have been completed in 1 day, the rain prevented them from finishing the job. They were very careful about laying a drop cloth on the floor before removing the ceiling cassette and before placing the ladder to climb into the ceiling. We appreciated their professionalism and efficiency. I believe our ac units lasted so long because of the annual servicing we purchased from AMV. I highly recommend purchasing this servicing contract because it is invaluable and the cost is very reasonable. Thank you, Aldrin and Kevin for a job well done. read more
