I originally left a negative review because I was charged a $211.52 site fee that wasn't disclosed when I booked the appointment. When I called to ask about it, I was told the company was busy, then that the referral company should have told me, and there were no notes on their end. It felt frustrating at first with a lot of back-and-forth. To their credit, they eventually refunded me the full amount, which I really appreciate. I'm glad they made it right, but I hope in the future they communicate fees clearly upfront to avoid confusion for other customers. read more

Don't use these guys got a new central ac unit from them in 2019 , had to be called back multiple times to fix a leak , that was made by them when they put the new ac unit in and they charged me for that . Had to hire another ac company to fix the leak because they couldn't splice the copper pipe right. And now final in Jan 2026 the Lennox ac unit broke after only 7 years which in that 7 years gave me multiple problems.After doing my research multiple ac companies don't use Lennox in Hawaii because they brake all the time. My air conditioner is a chilled water system. It was leaking. I called many air conditioner companies but it was very difficult to find the right one. My friend recommended this company's owner, Joel. They came exactly on time for my appointment. The owner, Joel, was kind and quick to respond. The pan of the air conditioner that was leaking was very old, rusty and had holes in it. I had to order a stainless steel drain pan. After replacing the pan, it leaked again but Joel and Mark responded quickly and came back the next day to fix the problem. Mark is a very hard worker. The problem was solved beautifully. Super fast and friendly service! There's hardly anything worse than a broken central A/C in the middle of the summer. We needed help fast because every day having to deal with hotter temperatures indoor versus outdoors was driving my family crazy! HI State Services came recommended to us and I was not disappointed. Joel was able to assess our situation quickly and identified exactly what needed to be done to rescue us from the oven our house had become. I think it took him less than an hour, but even still he was always professional and friendly. It's never a matter of IF your A/C is going to breakdown, but WHEN. These guys really let me down. I previously left a 5 star review for them, that was a mistake. They did a repair for me on a 4-year old system, and later they cleaned a few units inside. All was good and mostly professional, but then they just went limp and disappeared, leaving me with a broken system. I called them for a repair, they came and quickly diagnosed the problem and said I needed a few simple repair parts. They claimed they would get the parts from the local supplier and call to schedule the fix. That was a couple of weeks before Christmas so I gave them some time and even waited until after the New Year - they never called to finish the work. So I called them and reminded them the job was still incomplete, they said "let me check on that and call you back",,,, no call back. I waited a week and called again,,, this time they recognized me, apologized profusely for failing to follow through, again, and this time they promised they would call me by Monday to get the job done,,,,,, no call on Monday. I waited two more days, called again, this time it went straight to voice mail,, I pleaded with them to please come fix my A/C like they had promised to do three times,,,,, no call back from Joel. Now its like they're too embarrassed, or too scared to call, and they're paralyzed by fear and inaction. I don't get it. I was always very polite with them, I tipped the guys who cleaned the inside units $20 each. I gave them lots of time and opportunity to let them follow through on their word,, and they didn't have the respect or decency to even call. Just a total blow off! I suspect it's because the work is covered by the manufacturers warrantee and they won't be able to bill me, but since they don't have the courage to call me back I guess I'll never know. I've been sitting with a busted A/C for almost a month now. Time I could have used to find someone who isn't lazy and unprofessional, and masquerading as legitimate tradesman. Not reliable, not worth anyone's time. At this point I wouldn't let them fix my A/C for free. I just don't trust them to do a good job. BTW, just went to their website to find some info, my virus software went off like a fire alarm with a Phishing alert and blocked the site. read more

HI State Services was recommended to my husband and I by our residential community manager in Ko Olina as an A/C service provider, so it was disappointing to experience their dishonest and unprofessional tactics. Although Joel is personable, I found HI State Service's pricing tactics way overpriced and dishonest. In addition to not disclosing how much total it would cost to replace freon, the quote of services were 5X the cost that other A/C companies charged to fix our broken evaporator coil. When I called Joel out on their overpriced estimate and requested for a new quote, he TEXTED me that his company is busy and would no longer be able to help us fix our A/C. I see in the reviews below that another Yelper had a negative experience with this company specifically with fixing Evaporator coils. Beware Yelp users! During the recent heatwave it's been hard to find an A/C repair service that was not booked out weeks in advance. HI State Services was an exception--and now I know why. They are quick to show up (multiple times), quick to take your money, and then quick to disappear when the "repairs" only work for a couple of hours. Eventually we got help from another company's technician who knew what he was doing. He fixed our unit with the simplest possible repair in under half an hour, and left me convinced that HI State Services, who seemed to be intent on replacing our A/C system one part at a time, was not addressing the actual problem (which is a kind way of saying that they were incompetent). Even that I could forgive, but the most irritating thing is the promised call back that never arrives. You have to chase after them for the privilege of being exploited. Is that any way to run a business? I may be a stupid homeowner who doesn't know an evaporator from a condenser, but even with no air conditioning at least I can sleep at night. read more

Service was top of the line with these guys. Prior to finding this company, we were turned away from others and other companies told us we had to wait a month before someone can come help us. HI State Services was able to diagnose the problem and came back a few days later to fix it. We had to replace the entire unit in our living room and helped us in choosing a unit thats better, will cool faster, and is energy efficient. Joel and Jon finished the job in 5 hours and they also cleaned our other units in the house. They were super nice and was very thorough with the job. They also filled the holes in the wall that the old unit left behind. And even tried their best to work quietly when our baby fell asleep. He left and did some legwork to find the part he needed to repair our AC but was back in no time at all to fix the problem. Our AC is now up and running cool on this hot Ewa Beach day. Had a bad experience with this company. Would NOT recommend to anyone. If you're going to do business, please ensure he gives you documentation!! We're displeased on the lack of communication from the owner, Joel Bareng. We had a consultation with him back in January. We had him come twice to our home due to our evaporator coil having a leak. He removed the coil back in February but both times the coil has been the incorrect size (not Joel's fault). And now We're still trying to get in contact with him because Admor's GM, Charlie, told us they have not received our evaporator coil from HI state service. Joel, please contact Charlie so we may clear this up. We've called, left a voicemail, & texted you regarding you giving us a tracking number. We still haven't received any communication. You have both our numbers as well as Admor's. Update: My husband texted him to give us a call (it's been almost 2 weeks since he answered!) and told him that he was going to get the police involved. Joel finally called. & even though Joel stated to us that he took it to Admor TWICE (in person & via text), he now said that his workers recycled our evaporator coil. He stated that our coil is under warranty so why would your workers recycle a piece??? He stated he didn't understand how the warranty process worked... as a business owner, he should be aware of everything HVAC, business, & consumer related... he didn't go above & beyond for us. But thankfully we found an amazing company who has gone above & beyond & still accepted us even after Joel left us with no coil. Also, he broke our light fixture (since February & its now April) & he has yet to fix it even though he said he was coming next week (back in March) to fix it!! You reap what you sow. Remember that!
