My 25 min lomi lomi massage was out o this world!! It ended to soon! :( the room was so nice and peaceful. They don't have their little cafe anymore but room service will deliver to the spa, we decided to go to the lookout cafe I believe it was called. Delicious. I'm on a mission to try every spa on the island of Kauai and Anara Spa at the Grand Hyatt seems like a good place to start. They are expanding and under construction so my massage was in a guest room. Maybe it's just me, but I hate traipsing through the hotel in a robe. Once they complete the new areas, Anara will surely merit 5 stars. Otherwise, Anara has a sweet, tropical ambience and all the expected features; a fitness center, salon, lap pool and a small restaurant which serves light lunches and smoothies. I enjoyed the jacuzzi, the sauna, the steam room and the outdoor showers. Hard to choose from all the great treatments they offer. Aromatherapy, Thai, pohaku hot stone, seaweed wraps, salt scrubs, papaya polish and Kauai coffee brush....hmmm....decided I couldn't go wrong with lomi lomi and have to say my massage was great. Won't divulge names. Rates start at $150 and go up from there. I went in a grumpy old gal and came out almost unrecognizable. The serene smile on my face lasted until I got my credit card bill. Went in for the Hawaiian Healing manicure & pedicure. It was nice, but I was given attitude by the person doing mine because I wanted multi-colors on my toes (which is something I've seen in a couple fashion magazines). She was unfriendly throughout my treatments. It was $247 total after they added-in the automatic 18% tip. I should have said I wanted to change the tip amount but I didn't. Way overpriced. Very happy with the massage I got from Christy. One of the best I've ever had and I loved the ambiance!! Anara was recommended by the owner of the Glam Shack and by another hotel guest at the Sheraton who told me the Sheraton spa was no comparison. Grateful to both of them for steering me to the Anara! Although the massage is pricey (not out of line with massage prices at other resorts), I recommend making an afternoon of it and taking advantage of the pool, steam baths and other amenities at the spa. read more

I cannot express how good this manicure was, more than worth it's cost. Not only was Caitlin amiable and did an excellent job with my nails but the extras of the whole thing were superb. I opted for the Hawaiian Healing Manicure which not only included the manicure and polish but a volcanic mud mask for the hands. As if that were not amazing enough there is a hot stone massage for the hands & forearms. This was without a doubt the best manicure I have ever had. I am about to go in for day two of my five day pass for the gym and spa. Here's my experience so far: When I called to book and inquire about various spa packages they told me that there was no nail technician in that day so I was unable to get a gel manicure. The cost was about $100 which seems very excessive anyway so I just opted to buy the five-day gym and spa pass as a non-hotel guest. When I got to the Hotel it was pouring rain and there is a bunch of water pouring down even from the covered carport so the inside of my car got wet. Walking up to the gym I saw that there was indeed a nail technician working on someone else so I guess the part was a lie! The woman definitely had told me that no one was on site not that they were fully booked so I thought that was a little bit odd. I got to the front desk & they were busy checking two other people out & in so there's a bit of a wait. But when I came forward and it was my turn the woman seemed to have no idea how to charge me for this service. I left her to try to figure it out and checked out some of the merchandise at the shop which was very overpriced but nice when I came back they still were not done. It's a five day spa pass. I don't know how or why that was so difficult but apparently it was. Finally I asked if I could just go inside & start working out since there was only 2 1/2 hours left of the day. She agreed and then came in about an hour later with my receipt well I was lifting weights and gave me my card and receipt in the gym. The spa itself is very nice and the gym is definitely nice & adequate. There's more than a few machines and they have DirecTV, music videos, music preloaded in and lots of other features. It was very clean and they provided chilled wet towels as well as complementary earphones and water. The free weights looked brand new and there's definitely a wide selection of balls, stretch bands, weightlifting machines I and more. The spa is good as well. Again it's nothing super Duper fancy but well-equipped and the Jacuzzi in the outside door coed area by the lap pool definitely has great Jets. It was raining and drizzly so a bit wet outside but the covered parts of the women's gym were a good place to have some hot tea, relax & read a magazine. The eucalyptus steam room felt great and the sauna was good too. The many amenities provided inside with the lockers were also a nice touch. There is body lotion, hair spray, deodorant, sunscreen, clean brushes, Q-tips, cotton balls and even a vanity mirror with a bright light on it for make up application as well as hairdryers. There are no phones or cell phone usage allowed in the space which is great to keep it quiet and peaceful. However I had no idea what time it was and as I was finishing up a woman cleaning up hustled me out: it was just after 8 PM I guess which is fine but her tone was a little bit rude. Hopefully the next four days that I am back will be great. read more

We booked two separate days for massages and mani-pedis after having utilized the spa on a previous trip. Overall definitely a positive experience for both services. There were three of us all trying different types of massage and all raved. The mani-pedi was a little less positive for one of our group members. The service was less than friendly although not necessarily negative. She just didn't engage with the client. Rather unusual in a higher end spa. Additionally, the gel manicure started coming up after less than a week. Didn't go back to have it redone as time didn't permit but it should have happened. This is the reason for the four stars rather than five. read more

I could go on & on about the showers alone. Lava Rocks & Orchids & Open sky above. It was magical. This is what I imagined a GREAT spa would be like. So peaceful. The pool & spa were lovely. It was so relaxing & quiet. They had everything I could possibly need to shower & dress. I found all of the staff to be helpful, especially the attendants near the dressing rooms. I got a massage on our last visit & it may have been the most relaxing massage I have ever received. I cant wait to visit again soon. We had a girls day at this spa the day before my wedding. I received a massage in the garden outside which was AMAZING. I enjoyed the dried fruit that seemed to be strategically placed everywhere! I absolutely loved hanging out at the garden waiting room area. It was incredible. I will say if I hadn't received a service and just paid for entry I would have been disappointed. There isn't much for you to do and I think entry is pretty pricey for such limited access. read more

It is amazing that this is even a part of the "Grand Kauai Hyatt" I choose to do two reviews one for the "Grand Kauai Hyatt" and one for "Anara Spa" I truly can't give ya'll a review of the "Anara Spa" experience and the "anara pilialoha couples (romance) journey" at $1,150. Because after trying 4 times to make a reservation, not because they didn't have spots, and not because I was able to speak to someone to make the reservation... but because when I called the first night we arrived (thinking that it might take a few days to get in before the end of the week of our stay) at 7:55 pm the person answering the phone said "Anara Spa Please Hold" and after 35 minutes (yes I had the patience to hold for 35 minutes...SHOCK let me know when you have picked yourself up off the floor so I can go on :). I transferred to our second phone line in our room and called the front desk and asked when the spa closed, and was informed they had closed at 8 pm... aww... The next morning we did a power walk with one of the instructors from the spa and shared our experience from the previous night. She said she would have someone call us... they did... and I called back left her a message telling her what I wanted to do.... NO CALL BACK! Ok... maybe she gets a lot of calls... call her again and also call the director... 5 days later I get a call from the director "So Sorry I have been out of the office "Really you couldn't have said that in the message or had someone call me back" no worries. The people we spoke to that did use the spa were not impressed with their experience so I guess I can thank the director for not calling me back :) Mahalo Director :) read more

Our visit to the Anara Spa was the only bad part of our honeymoon (and my birthday). We did the Kauai Ku Uipo package and spent a small fortune for sub-par massages and facials - as well as a mud application that we had to do ourselves. At half the price it still would have been disappointing. And they had a forced 20% gratuity so we couldn't even tip less. We had wonderful treatments at the Four Seasons in Maui and they were less expensive. I would not recommend this spa to anyone! read more

Just got back from Kauai with my fiancé and we had an amazing spa experience! We had the couples massage in private cabanas in the afternoon- pineapple- papaya body scrub and a nice long massage ( there was a private romantic lava shower we both rinsed off together before our massage- so sexy and fun;) My therapist Anne was AMAZING!!!! I workout a lot and always have chronic knots and tension that other therapist can't seem to tackle- Anne was up for the challenge- I told her my problem areas and she did a fantastic job loosening me up! Thanks again Anne! If you get a massage book her!! Totally worth the price- very nice sauna jacuzzi area too- and staff is so friendly!! read more

We visited the spa on one of our last days during our visit to Kauai and it was so worth it! We got a couples Lomilomi massage in the outdoor cabana. The waiting area is outside in a very relaxing environment, there is a private lap pool and lounges, outdoor lava rock showers with waterfall shower heads, and wonderful staff. We both thought that the massage itself, though pricey, was worth every penny! read more

My wife and I got a couples massage in an outdoor cabana at the Anara Spa. We wanted an 80-minute massage, but they only had a 50-minute massage available the day we went. I was so relaxed that I fell asleep during the massage. There are also amenities to take advantage of, like the eucalyptus steam room and jacuzzi. The bathrooms and showers are stocked with Coco Mango scented products. If you have a free day in Kauai and want to relax, I recommend a day here. Amazing spa n facilities for guests! Only reason it's not 5 stars is the front desk staff is a bit snobby, n not helpful. Took 15 mins to my other half a massage scheduled and then when we both showed up for him a massage and me to use the sauna, eucalyptus steam shower, hot tub, etc. they didn't bother directing me to anything it's back their. Lucky Mimi and another lady showed me how to get in to the women's side, and one went above it all and gave me a full tour. Which includes facial scrub, showers, lockers(w combo locks), lava outdoors showers, shaving cream n full amenities to get ready for the night- brush, deodorant, hairspray, lotion, etc. the eucalyptus steam was to die for. Sauna was out of order, but both the private hot tub n coed hot tubs are great. Plus when I returned the next day to enjoy the tub, Mimi remembered my name. Class act, remembering clients! N nice to chat with, apparently lived in Seattle for a year where I'm from. This lady made my experience!!!! She truly takes care of her clients and clearly worked hard. The massage I was told was awesome. Worked out all the kinks from the days kayaking. As a guest at Hyatt, I truly wanted to go back every day for my daily shower the experience in the lava showere was so relaxing. read more

Went for a spa day with my oldest daughter and had a fabulous time with her. However, I was expecting the Anara Spa to be more grand (everyone that I've talked to that has been there have talked it up to be this awesome spa). In my opinion, it's pretty basic as far as amenities. Jacuzzi, Sauna, Steam Room, and poor selection of spa fruit & snacks. I do think the lava rock shower was nice but disappointed that it wasn't really in an open air space like the picture may perceive it to be. However, people that are new to or visiting Kauai may think of it as a great experience since it had the Hawaiiana vibe going. My hobby had always been something to do with pampering and have been blessed to experience the Spas at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, Burke Williams in Santana Row San Jose, Ayoma Life Spa, and even Korean Day Spas which I think is the best way to spend a spa day. My next Spa venture will be Anahola's Lomi Retreat. We'll see... read more

This is my favorite spa anywhere, and I've been to lots of spas. Getting a treatment in the garden is relaxing. I got an "island pupu" treatment (scrub, massage and facial) to which I added a scalp and foot treatment and it was heaven. They have the usual hot tub, steam rooms, etc. but be sure to schedule your service in the garden because it's really wonderful. There was a snafu with one other reservation and the spa discounted my service and sent me a gift to make up for it. read more

My husband and I did the couples massage in our own private garden hale. The spa was so luxurious and relaxing from the moment we stepping in. The staff was all extremely nice and showed us to our individual locker rooms. The locker room has everything you could imagine to a hair brush! All the lotions and soaps smelled amazing. They had this awesome rock shower and a jacuzzi and spa. Before our actual massage we waited in this garden hut that was so relaxing and beautiful we almost didn't want to leave! (Plus there was snacks). The massage was itself was very relaxing - the most relaxing massage I ever had (maybe it was being in our own private garden hale or the sounds of the water but you really just melt away with relaxation). They use a lot of oil but the pressure was perfect. The masseuses were both so nice, making sure we were comfortable. It was one of the most romantic things we did on our honeymoon- recommend to anyone! Perhaps one day if we come back we will be able to go for the lovers escape. read more

You really can't beat the location of this spa but to be honest, the massage felt rushed and really wasn't that great considering how much we paid for it. They only have lounge chairs for six around the hot tub. You can hear rolling carts full of towels going by. Hale massage is beautiful but there is no bathroom close by. The closest is in the gym!! If not in hale, the other massage rooms are small and claustrophobic. If you want to spend 280 plus 18% go ahead. But I think finding a local practitioner who would take their table to the beach to do massage for you would be better! Also very limited food options at the SMALL ENCLOSED pool area. read more

I used to go to Anara when my hair stylist was there, take advantage of the facilities with the included day pass, and occasionally have a treatment treat. The facilities are supposedly even more fabulous after the recent reno. BUT, the other month when I was dropping something off (for work) at their reception desk I waited while someone checked out. Her bill was $800-something!! SORRY, but no matter how wonderful a day, that is irresponsible insanity...on both sides. Just think, you might feel even better after a $100 massage elsewhere and a $700 donation to charity. read more

My husband and I went to Anara spa during our winter vaction. We were greeted and welcomed by a very friendly staff. When we asked about the different types of treatment the staff were able to answer all our questions. When we were enjoying the spa facilites, we found it peaceful and calm. This spa is a little "industrial" for my taste. The pool, which is the focal point and takes up a lot of room, is very unattractive considering you are at a resort. The facilities in the women's spa were ok - an outdoor hot tub, steam and sauna, and lava rock showers that I thought were a little tacky. The staff always seem to be "around" because of the way the check-in counter is placed in the middle of the women's area. It didn't feel very relaxing. I was having a massage done in one of the outdoor cabanas, and when I was lead back there, there was an really nice lounging area that I wish they would have told me about! It was raining that day so I would have been perfectly happy to sit there rather than in the not-so-cozy women's locker room. My massage was excelllent (the inside rooms didn't look as good - get one outside!). I pay the spa prices not just for the treatment, but for all the other stuff that goes with it too. I'm a spa junkie--every time I go on vacation, I find a spa to spend a day of relaxation. So I've been to a lot of spas. I can easily that the Anara Spa has bumped it's way up to #1 on my list. I booked the Lokahi package, and while pricey, I can honestly say it was worth every penny. The facilities were great, and I LOVED the lava rock showers. The first part of my package was a soothing bubble bath in a lava rock tub in a private cove. It was followed by the Seas of Gratitude treatment in a private thatched hut, with the soothing sounds of birds and waterfalls. I was so happy how quiet it was other than the sounds of nature--there wasn't people walking past and chatting. The package included a lunch poolside, which was delicious. After lunch was a facial and finally a manicure/pedicure. This was the LONGEST mani/pedi I've every had, which I'm not saying is a bad thing at all! I appreciate that it wasn't rushed, and shout-out to Tai, who was awesome. The entire staff at the spa was incredible. They were very accommodating, and friendly. I spent over 7 HOURS at this spa, and easily could have spent more. I recommend taking full advantage of the facilities. The steam room and sauna were great and clean. They had hottubs, and the pool was inviting. The thatched hut waiting area was also a plus--they have coloring books and refreshments. If you can splurge, do it! read more

I've been to Kauai before and got the best massage in my life from Anne. I just found the Anara spa through Yelp. Normally, I just fall asleep, but Anne was so personable and friendly and she kept my engaged the entire massage (in a good way). You can tell she really loves her job because she isn't afraid to explore your pain points and understand where your body needs more attention. She took the extra time after the massage to show me some stretches that I can do at home. 6 months later, I booked another trip to Kauai with my husband. The first thing I had to do was book a couple's massage and put in a request for Anne for my husband. I've been raving about how awesome of a job she does for months and I was scared I hyped it up. Nevertheless, he loved his massage just as much as I did. And, she even remembered me!! This time, I had Julie and she was also amazing. Since we had a couple's massage, we were in a private outdoor area in the garden, which was absolutely serene. I would definitely recommend booking Anne or Julie!!! Both ladies are fantastic, have great stamina and they really know what they are doing. For future trips, I plan to book a massage as soon as we land (like we did here).
