Went here Friday nite for dinner with friends..the food was so fresh. Had the trio of dips and Haloumi salad as apps. Yummmy! I had the falafel very tasty. My husband and girlfriend had the olive encrusted tuna that was cooked to perfection and oh so delicious. Another friend had the cod sandwich cooked and seasoned perfectly. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 stars is because the restaurant is a bit loud..they have sound panels on the ceiling but the place was still noisy. Can a space be cozy yet airy at the same time? Yes it can, thank you Cardoon for achieving a very pleasant ambiance in a fairly small dining room. There's outdoor seating too, on the canal. How about the drinks? Not being one for specialty cocktails, I hesitated but went ahead and ordered the house signature cucumber vodka martini. Happiness! It is a beautifully crafted drink and was especially refreshing on the 90+degree day on which I enjoyed it. And the food? Grilled octopus was perfect and served with a sauce I've been dreaming about since I had it. Baby artichokes with shaved parmesan cheese are to die for, and the fried calamari was extremely fresh plus it includes an assortment of goodies: fried lemon slices, fried chick peas and fried pepperocini halves. On my first visit, I could not finish my excellent lamb burger due to my overexcited indulgence in the wonderful aforementioned shared apps. I've eaten at Cardoon twice - so far - and look forward to many more enjoyable dining experiences here. read more

Came here with the boat to get dinner as it was a local restaurant which we figured we would give a try. I guess to begin with they only have three boat slips so if you're looking to come by boat you may have to troll around in the canal If they don't have a spot. It is very casual typical of a place on the water, with that being said the prices are not bad for the restaurant. The service was average the food was average at best, over cooked burger, overcooked seared tuna, got some appetizers which is straightforward appetizers but did not taste good.The biggest downside to this restaurant is the price, it's probably at least two times as much as it should be for what you are getting a show if they adjusted their price I may actually go back and they might be able to turn over some tables on a Sunday night. Basic stuff like condiments for a burger, butter or cheese or sour cream for the baked potato, simple things like that they just did not take care of. If the price was cut in half I might consider going back, and that's only out of convenience, you're looking for a good meal on the "water" there are more options between Merrick and Massapequa. read more

Came for lunch, 5 tables taken in the entire restaurant. Nice view, but overall the back deck on the water area is kinda grimy and not all that special. There is virtually no front to the restaurant, aesthetically, it's kinda sad. 1) Water was warm and came with no ice.. bus boy said "they were running low on ice". Never heard of this in my life. Fiance had a Stella but it was borderline room temp, slightly chilled. 2) Mediterranean Mule (vodka, apricot nectar, ginger beer, lime) came with about a 0.25oz of vodka. I came with an empty stomach, and had zero buzz after drinking it. Waiter made a second one properly and was much better and took off the first off the bill. 3) Smoked trout dip app was outstanding and the best thing we had but took 45 minutes to arrive. Again, 5 tables in the entire place, how can it take this long? 4) Food arrived almost 90 minutes later from ordering. Coriander crusted lamb ribs were tasty but presentation and overall taste was below expectation. Kataifi Shrimp app was OK, but does not warrant an $18 price tag for 3 shrimp. Fiance was happy with the cod pita sandwich. Tables surrounding us all had similar complaints of disappearing waiters, missing food, etc. Overall not a good experience. I came on the recommendation of the GrubFather who I think is now starting to get kick back for promoting and touting some of these places he visits. I can't imagine a foodie in their right mind recommending this place. I want to believe the cook and owners are trying to do something unique and special but the whole package falls extremely short. Maybe we caught them on a bad day but they have A LOT of work to do. read more

Place was very good. Been there before when it was park side and liked it then but I like the new menu. My wife and I shared Octopus, fried artichoke, chaser salad for appetizers. Then shared a entree of lobster 2 ways. Everything was good but absolutely loved the octopus. For desert we split a backala funnel cake which we enjoyed very much. Very small restaurant so not noisy and they take reservations which is a plus! Come summer we will be back to sit on the outside deck on the water. My friends and I are Anchor Down regulars as we live in walking distance. Our regular jet ski spot is the buoy bar in Pt. Lookout but we decided Sunday afternoon would be a good time to try Stephen's new place and very happy we did. We sat inside and had a great time with the hostess (Kristin I think), the bartender and our waitress. The service was spot-on. The calamari was as good as any I have had at an Italian restaurant and the lamb burger was sensational. I came here in early September and sat in the outdoor section. I order a chicken Chicken Souvlaki sandwich which was essentially a gyro; it was absolutely delicious. The dessert was also on point, although I cannot remember exactly what it was. While the food was good and I would recommend to anyone, the ambiance just wasn't there. The vinyl siding on the restaurant itself was cracked a falling apart and there was barley any lighting on the outdoor patio except for the candles on table. I had made a reservation for 7p.m. I arrived at 7 and told me the table would be ready shortly, so my girlfriend and I sat in the front thinking no more than 5 minutes. We sat in front until 8:15 and were sat in the back. when I made the reservation I thought the restaurant was on the water because of the pictures they have on their site. In the back you are surrounded by four fences with a view of nothing. We found this place using a google search. When we arrived I'll be honest I was a bit resistant because it's not much to look at. We had made reservations which was a good thing because while we were there it filled up and the phone was ringing off the hook! Our waitress was fantastic! We ordered the fish tacos, burger, and fish platter which were all delicious with a healthy serving. I ordered a drink called the "shipwreck", fantastic!! They were seating a few parties inside but we wanted to be outside. They have a tent with 6 sets of tables under it, the rest of the outdoor dining had tables with umbrellas. This place is located on the canal not too far from the main inlet, small waterview but still nice atmosphere. This place is very casual great place to have dinner with friends in a very relaxed atmosphere, we'd go back in a second! Highly recommend! read more

Had dinner with friends at this hidden away water front gem in Seaford. We got there and our reservation was honored right on time (always a plus). Beautiful table by the water. All patrons socially distancing and all staff wearing masks. Our server, Karen (the best) took our drink orders and explained the specials. We put in some apps - oysters a clam flat bread and steamers. All delicious. Mains were tuna, bran into and 2 of the trout specials. The kitchen was wonderful about substituting sides and we all enjoyed. Never felt rushed but always well attended to. An absolute pleasure. My wife keeps saying - it was so good!!! Last night we were joined by friends at our first and last visit to Cardoon. It started with the valet being totally unprofessional. When we were finally seated we were given menus and then somehow became invisible. Other tables that sat after us we're served bread and drink orders were taken. We were still invisible. Finally after asking for bread and getting it our waiter took drink orders that went fairly smoothly (not totally). When the waiter finally took our orders he couldn't answer questions about menu items. Serving sizes once they came were very small and everything tasted from the same spice. Not sure what it was but the chef needs to figure out that not everything is seasoned the same way. Honestly never mind paying the high cost of a good dinner but object when the food and service are mediocre at best! read more

The atmosphere at Cardoon is great. There are few places to go on the south shore with water views outside of the Nautical Mile. This is one and it is pleasurable sitting outside on the canal. The wait staff is accommodating and very nice. They were pleasant and even when there were concerns they didn't blink to assist. The appetizers were good - in particular the fried calamari. There is plenty for at least two people. The chocolate mouse desert is excellent! Easily the best part of the meal. I would highly recommend it. The entree's though leave a bit to be desired. The steak was undercooked but the wait staff were very quick to remedy it. The pure' and the flavoring on the entree's were not very good. For the price and lack of flavoring it was overpriced. Perhaps the fish and seafood entree's are better. If you're looking for an outdoor dinner this is a spot to consider but the entree's need some work. read more

We went there and it was a terrible experience...The location was great, next to the canal with all the boats going by...but..... -They were installing these Giant fans to keep the bugs away and the guy asked us if he can install it next to us while we were having a romantic dinner for our anniversary and I was upset and said of course NOT.. ! Can't they do these things when there are no customers on their own time?? They had finished installing 2 of the 5 fans they were supposed to install and they were running them, I mean they were so loud! I can only imagine 5 of them running at the same time and not being able to understand one another while having dinner! Please!! - There were these nasty people next to us on the phone talking to their wife and kids while they were here visiting their mom and the conversation was unbelievable saying hi with the mother in law and the grandchildren and Loud! Not something you'd want to hear for 1/2 hour while you're trying to have a romantic dinner on your anniversary! -My wife ordered a coffee and it took them 3 tries to get it right, and finally she drank a lukewarm coffee just to get over with it.. -Finally when the bill came I gave them the money and asked for large change and what a mistake! She came back with the change in 20 min later in mostly singles... saying that they didn't have big change. I had to sit there and count all the singles where I was expecting large bills to avoid all the small change! Terrible! Even though our waitress was very nice and most of the issues weren't her fault. I really don't think I'd go back there again or try their other location "Anchor Down" in Merrick. I can see what kind of an unprofessional business they run and wouldn't want to support them in any way! read more

This place is a hidden gem in the area. It's tucked away in a residential area but is quiet and quaint. Inside has a small dining area with a bar for about 8-10 people. Outside is a dockside dining area with umbrellas. The menu is delicious if you like Mediteranean food. Delicious hummus appetizer, meat dishes, and yummy cocktails. My husband and I attempted to have dinner at Anchor Down Dockside last night and it ended up being the worst dining experience I ever had. The hostess took at least 15 minutes to take our name (didn't even make eye contact with us) and then let us know it would be a twenty minute wait. We went to the uncrowded bar area, where the bartender said "give me five minutes" not a minute, but 5 minutes. Obviously they are very short staffed. After about 25 minutes or so we were seated at our table. We ordered drinks and began perusing the menu. The waitress came over and we ordered the chicken wings and the muscles, both of which they "ran out off", along with the tuna, hamburgers, lobster bisque soup and a few other popular menu items. Annoyed, but we still attempted to see if there was something else on the menu we might want. It was the tip of the iceberg when the bartender brought me a 1/4 glass of wine, if that, and told me they were out of the wine I ordered. It was then we decided to leave, the manager came over and tried to explain and offered to pay for our drinks. I could not believe our experience and needed to share on YELP in hope they will try to be better prepared for summer dinner crowds. I felt like we were being punked! This Greek food place was subpar. To start off the setting was nice. It is a nice dinner place to go to during the summer. I ordered wine, wish it was served to me in a tall wine glass. The food was just okay, we ordered the hen entree, our server didn't tell us that no side comes with the dish. Steak was worth the price and the Cornish hen, which I was never a fan of, was exceptional. Grilled octopus was very good.
