This place was my first thai experience in Denton. I live in Dallas but work in denton, so there are a ton of delicious thai places (except MANOW, see first review). This place was on par with most of the thai restaurants in dallas - warm and inviting decor, pleasant staff, and yummy thai tea. For lunch, I had the thai basil fried rice with chicken- greasy and spicy...but a bit on the bland side if that makes sense, missing a little salt in the rice. Nonetheless, it was easily digested. This was also an "Iron Tongue" review I wrote for my college newspaper: Andaman Thai Restaurant is the spiciest restaurant in Denton, which could be a good or bad thing, depending on your preference. The Asian-Ikea infused decor of this restaurant makes for a warm atmosphere, too. The walls are burnt sienna, and the geometric dishware is bright and colorful. After sitting down and looking around, I decide this was one of the rare Asian restaurants with class. Jill, reading the menu, was pleased with the diverse number of entrees. There are several noodle, rice and Thai curry options. "Drunken noodles are popular in China," Jill said. "I've never seen that here." She orders the Thai Spices Center ($5.95), which has a house blend of Thai herbs, bamboo shoots, basil, garlic and a choice of meat. Jack ordered Basil Fried Rice ($7.95) with tofu, snow peas, onions, bell pepper and scallions, and a vegetarian Crispy Egg Roll ($1.25) with black mushrooms and shredded cabbage as an appetizer. I ordered the Panang Curry ($7.95) with tofu, green peas, bell peppers and lemon leaves. We were all impressed when our dishes arrived with cone-shaped mounds of fragrant and warm Jasmine rice shaped with a martini glass. It was slightly sticky and delicious. Jill thought her egg roll was just okay, and she was disappointed that her main dish did not come with scallions or bell peppers. "I like the dishes more than I like the food," she said. Jill was also disappointed in the lack of house spices in her dish. "All I really tasted was the cilantro and a hint of basil and the chilies," she said. Jill liked the long bamboo shoots in her dish and the intricately cut cucumbers shaped like flowers, which she said was a sign of "upscale dining." My dish had a wonderful creamy, sweet taste because of the coconut milk. And the largely cut crispy vegetables were a nice complement to the meal, as well as the tofu, because it soaked up a lot of the juices. But all of our dishes were really spicy. "I heard that Thai is the spiciest of all foods," Jill said. This restaurant reaffirms her remark. Sensitive stomachs that cannot take the heat shouldn't eat here! Meanwhile, our service was slow, which was painstaking since we needed water to extinguish the fire in our mouths. Our robotic waiter explained they were busy training a new waitress. The portions are fair, but just know that you could go somewhere else and get more food and the same or better quality for cheaper. I just went with some basic chicken fried rice, which isn't hard to mess up so mine was okay, nothing I'd recommend(and I recommend things ALL the time). I went with my mom and she got the Pad Kee Mow, she had a couple bites and didn't eat the rest. I didn't try it, but she told me it tasted bland. We both had Thai Tea, and it was good but it's a small portion for the price. The service was okay, they were nice and fast. We got their before the lunch rush I think. I like to give everything a few chances because we all have off days. I'll try it again, but this was my first experience. My friend got me some Panang curry tonight for to go and to start off, the portion was very, very small compared to dining in (although the I'm pretty sure she was charged the same amount.) It was almost a fourth of the regular portion I had last time. Not only that, but there was NO RICE along with my curry. This is very disappointing because that is so basic for any curry dish. This is very unacceptable! I was very excited as I heard so many good things about andaman and had it once before and the service and food was good. I feel so bad for my friend because I feel like this was a total waste of money. One of my biggest fears upon moving to Denton, TX from New York City was that I wasn't going to be able to find good Thai food. That was until I went to Andaman. I have been there more times then I could count and I've tried half of their menu, I can't think of one item I can complain about. I have read that some people don't think that it's spicy enough, but you can control the level of spice when you order. The chive dumplings (either fried or steamed) are amazing, the Mee-Ka-Ti and the Kee-Mow are my favorite noodle dishes and the curries are fabulous. I love the ambiance, but I have had some bad experience with the service. With that being said, the management is great and they will always take care of you if you're having a problem. All in all, if you're looking for good Thai in the Denton area I recommenced Andaman whole heartily!! read more

We love this place! I'm surprised to see so many negative reviews as we have only ever had really great food here. The service is nothing special but I've never had a bad experience in that regard. Love the fried rice here. Really tasty! The curries are all pretty good too! Sometimes I feel it is a little overpriced for what you get but still enjoy going here on occasion! I'm hardly ever in Denton, and when I do drive out here, it's typically because my quarterly wine club shipment is being held at the retched UPS distribution center there. Last night, while waiting in line to pick up my wine club shipment, I decided I wanted Thai, so I googled (it's a verb, deal with it) "Thai Restaurants" and this place happened to be the closest Thai restaurant to the UPS center. I called them and made a to-go order. When I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere. This place is super cute and would be an awesome date night local right off the square. The server that took my order was fabulous and the food was ready within 10 minutes. It was a quick in-and-out, which was exactly what I was looking for last night. I ordered two of the Pad Kee Mow (Moa)(spice level 4 out of 4), which is a rather spicy dish to begin with--typically made with a jalapeno basil sauce, BUT...... To put what I am about to say into perspective: I love spicy food so much that I add jalapenos and serranos to everything, carry cayenne and red pepper flakes in my purse, add (lots) Sriracha sauce to everything, and I typically get a spice level of 5 out of 5 at most Thai restaurants and still have to add chili sauce--so all that to say, I am definitely not afraid of heat. Well, word of warning... I don't know if this was just a fluke or if their spice level is pretty consistent, but holy hell batman--that stuff was spicy! The flavor was amazing, but please do not think I am exaggerating when I say that my husband and I downed an entire half gallon of milk to get through our Pad Kee Mow with spice level 4 out of 4. I have never had something so spicy in all of my life, and I hope to work my way up to that level one day... but for now, I will probably stick with a spice level of 2 or 3 out of 4 until my body is ready for Satan's sweat! :) When they tell you 4 means extremely spicy, they are NOT even remotely joking, LOL! So, in conclusion, their spice level is serious... unless you are a ghost pepper lover, I might suggest a nice spice level of 3 out of 4. :) Cannot wait to try this place again! I went here once and instantly became hooked. The curries and noodle dishes are really, take you to an exotic place good. The only thing that makes them different from the dishes I tried in Thailand are the portion sizes, which are huge compared to Thailand! Good Food but Bad Hours!!! I used to eat at Andaman about 1 to 2 times a month for lunch. However i had to find a new Thai restaurant, when Andaman changed their hours and started opening at 12 PM instead of 11 AM. (Lunch break at work). So i give them 5 Stars on the Food and 1 Star on their business hours, so that averages out to 3 stars. Pad Kee Mow with Beef is my favorite. Oh, and don't try to do Grub Hub, Uber Eats, etc... we tried and our order got all messed up. It was bad. read more

I don't live in Denton anymore, but I make a point to eat here every time I visit. This is seriously the best Thai I've found and I hate that I live so far away from it. Everything is extremely fresh, no heat lamp-wilted veggies here! Some of my favorite dishes are the Drunken Veggies, Pineapple Fried Rice, Green curry, & the Southern Style Gang Som curry. I don't know if they still serve it but the Volcano Catfish (it's not on the menu, you've got to ask for it) is really excellent. Don't forget the desserts either, the mango with sweet rice is a refreshing end to a spicy meal. Their pumpkin custard (a shame that it's seasonal) is also really good. First time visit to this restaurant, and it probably will be my last. I've had Thai food in many places in the DFW area but Andaman comes nowhere near the restaurants I've been to. (minus Sukhothai) We were seated promptly and the server took our drink orders and food orders quickly. We received our food in a timely fashion but after receiving the food our server was nowhere to be seen or heard from again. Glasses of water were never refilled, took forever for the server to bring the check. The food: I ordered the Kra Pow Duck. According to the description, I was supposed to have crispy fried duck with Kra Pow sauce and assorted vegetables. The crispiest item on my dish was the fried basil. The duck was soggy and bland. The Kra Pow sauce? No where to be found. The only flavors I tasted from the dish was the spiciness. Overall, it wasn't very spicy at all. For $15, I expected the quality to be so much better than what I had. If we received better service, I would maybe give them a try again but since the food was bland and the service was terrible... I'll be going to any other Thai restaurant but here. On a positive note, the funnel shaped rice is unique! read more

When our very fishy tasting soup arrived, we reordered and were very grateful for not getting charged for 2 more meals!! Their menu has a lot of options. Ever since moving to Denton three years ago, I've been a huge fan of Andaman Thai. It well-deserves the attention over the other Thai restaurant (or two) in town! Andaman's owners are a couple originally from Thailand. Their food is traditional and divine. Their spicy level is on a star rating -- only order 5 stars if you REALLY mean it (which I typically do if I have a flu-like cold to help drain my sinuses). I recommend any of their curries, also their fresh rolls (2 to an order and huge!), and their...well, everything. The place can be a bit difficult to find (just past Ravelin's Bakery on Elm St., in a shopping center), but well worth it. read more

This is for those curious about their delivery, I'll describe my experience in detail. But before I get into that, I want to address a few things. First and foremost, I have to agree that Andaman is a place where it really is a matter of preference. I don't order entrees and have it heavily modified with "no this, or extra that, or this to the side." I trust the cooks. If you're a picky eater, or swear you're an expert at "[xyz] cuisine" there is nothing wrong with that. Everybody is entitled to their opinion. I enjoy supporting local businesses and restaurants - I'm not a picky eater nor am I a food critic, unless the place was undeniably awful. Anyhow, I've actually dined here some time ago, and the only thing I remembered was how neat the place looked. Colorful, but unfortunately I don't remember what I had ordered, so I suppose that particular dining experience was, for lack of better term, forgettable. I never really went back at this location for Thai cuisine (I figured there are far better places to go). That was about two years ago though, I believe. A few weeks ago I had a craving for Asian cuisine but really didn't want to order carry-out, I was exhausted from work at the time. Sometimes deliveries are necessary for "those kind of days." I looked up Thai restaurants in town that deliver, and yes, it's hard to find one. I've always gone to Thai Ocha (my default Thai place), in fairness, excellent food!... but only offer dine-in and carry-out service. Too bad. I learned Andaman delivers, so I thought of giving the place another shot and ordered the Coconut Tilapia with Fried rice, and Black Rice pudding. I placed my order, paid online, and waited for my dinner. Mind you, it was a Friday night when I had ordered, so I was expecting a long wait and lukewarm food. I was pleasantly surprised it only took about 45 minutes, (which was fine for me). The delivery person was so nice. I was also expecting the dreaded white styrofoam container with sauce everywhere, but my entree was actually neatly packaged in those sturdy microwaveable plastic containers. And it was piping hot, I actually had to wait for it to cool down before I could eat. Also, the containers weren't sweaty or dripping in condensation, which I really enjoyed. The meal itself was good - my Coconut Tilapia was perfectly cooked and seasoned, good amount of coconut flavor (but not overwhelmingly so) and placed on a bed of substantial amount of fried rice including the infamous "chunky vegetables," but I happen to prefer it that way. Again, matter of personal taste. Veggies were crisp but definitely cooked, nothing was raw in my dish. My black rice pudding was delicious. So, I am giving my experience with Andaman's food and delivery service 4 stars (the only downside is that it's on the pricier end). But the food was good and I was pleasantly surprised with the manner of delivery, the presentation, and the politeness of the deliverer. For me, it was an overall successful order. read more

Best Thai food I have had in Denton so far! The Tom Kha Soup comes in a contraption that keeps it warm while it is on your table which is really cool because cold soup is not very good. The soup also has lots of chunky vegetables including fresh mushrooms (some places use canned mushrooms). We also split the coconut prawns which were very yummy and come with a tasty sweet chili dipping sauce. The Pad Thai was good, but it needs more peanuts and lime juice and some spice added. Oh my gosh! I've been checking around for a new good Thai place to nourish my soul and I may have found it on my first try!!! I went alone, ordered the green curry. The green curry came with thinly sliced bamboo shoots, carrots, bell pepper, basil, and thai eggplant. It also comes with a side of rice. The smell was amazing and actually made my mouth water, the coconut cream in the curry gives this dish an awesome mouth feel. The flavor is classic but the spice is perfect, doesn't set your mouth on fire but you feel it in the back of your throat in the best kind of way. Prices are reasonable, decor is nice with non overbearing colors, and the staff is really friendly they seem like genuinely nice people. My boyfriend and I went there a couple days ago. Besides the poor service and over-priced menu, the food was definitely NOT something to brag about. They wanted to charge this vegan $2.00 to add vegetables to a dish that would have otherwise had NOTHING BUT NOODLES AND TOFU in it. TWO DOLLARS!!!! How much would they charge me for another lime or some extra sauce? Oh wait- that's right- the dish I got had very little to no sauce on it and therefore was completely bland and needed the assistance of soy and szechaun chile sauce to dress it up. This place BLEW. Had seen Andaman when driving around and thought that I would try out today. Let's just say that the food was OK, but do not think I will be back. We ordered take out and had the following: Andaman Thai Fresh Roll Pork Dumplings Pad Thai (Chicken & seafood) It took me 15 min to drive back home, and everything was sill warm. The Pork dumplings tasted ok, but needed the Sweet chili soy sauce and that set them off. A get again w/the sauce. The Thai Fresh Roll, not so much. the menu says: Two rice paper rolls. Well, there were two rolls, but it was more like a crepe and not rice paper. Did not have much flavor and did not add any of the included sauces. The Pad Thai was a generous serving and had little flavor. The chicken in the chicken Pad Thai was over cooked. Crab legs in the seafood was also overcooked. Good news that it was not cooked in a lot of oil. Can not comment on the service as I did take out, but they said our order would be ready in 15 min and it was being bagged as I was walking in. With Sweet Basil on the loop being closer and the food tasting better, Andaman will not be seeing me any time soon. read more

First Time Patronizing them We had one of the worse experiences at this restaurant. The waiter was slow, did not know what he was doing. My son ordered a fried rice dish and asked for broccoli and no peanuts in his dish and the waiter had no problems with the order so we thought. When his dish came out he did not get the broccoli and told the waiter no problem until he found peanuts in his dish. We asked for the check and to remove the cost of the dish. The cook came out and wanted to make it again, said he could put broccoli in it but the problem was the peanuts. After we told them it had peanuts he apologized and finally deducted the cost of the meal from our ticket as my son is allergic to peanuts. When we thought things could not get worse they tried to short me $20. I paid them $100 and when I received the change it was $20 short. I told the waitress about it and she did not recount the money she gave me she just went and got my $20. It appeared to me that she already was aware that it was short the $20. Thank goodness I counted it!! I would highly recommend counting your change if you go there and pay cash. read more

My husband and I walked into Andaman tonight inquiring about a walking menu. We spoke with a waiter, Chito, and he said they didn't have one but really recommended the food. We were a little reluctant, mostly me as Joe will eat anything. I had to admit the food smelled amazing and the place was spotless. We decided to give it a shot. I'm so glad we did!!! Chito brought us menus and I was drawn to the Turmeric Fried Rice with Garlic but wanted to see what Chito would recommend. Joe loves BBQ chicken. Unbeknownst to Chito, he recommended both dishes that Joe and I had been eyeballing! They were fantastic! We had the pleasure of visiting with Chito, who is an aspiring songwriter and talented musician. The service and the food were excellent! We had asked for a box and a check and were enjoying our experience when Chito brought us a delicious dessert made of the most delicious custard and rice I have ever eaten. It was certainly nothing I would have ever ordered, but I will say it is nothing short of amazing! We love trying new things and this was a home run! I have to thank my husband for introducing me to Andaman, I love it! I almost always order Pad See You (spelling is probably wrong) with chicken. I usually have enough to take home and heat up the next day, which is excellent. I think most dishes come with a side salad with peanut dressing. The only real drawback that I can see to Andaman is ordering a soda here. They come in cans, so no refills. We recently had a birthday get together with a large group of people and they were very accommodating. read more

Stopped in one night with my wife to grab a bite to eat in June of 2014. No reservation. (Not sure if they take reservations) This is a typical Denton, TX restaurant. A little run down, hippie/college restaurant. It really brings you back to a simpler day. A huge variety in the clientele. At one table there was an electrical engineer who probably makes well into six figures. At the next, was a college professor who probably makes a depressing salary, but who is brilliant in his own right. At another table was a couple of hippies with dreadlocks and really red eyes. At another table was a couple of young professionals with a couple of kids. What is the reason for such diversity? It can only be one thing- great food! And this place has got it. I was really feeling a big dish of good old fashioned Chicken Pad Thai. I also got a bowl of Tom Ka soup. My wife got a red curry chicken. These pics are already up here, so I won't be redundant. I will say that the portion sizes are huge and the food is outstanding. If you see dirt and dust, just look the other way. If the bathroom is in need of some TLC, just handle your bathroom business and deal with it. You're in Denton! Embrace the character of this restaurant. You can go back to your clean bathroom later. I haven't made a tour of Thai places in the Denton area which is unfortunate. Andaman's is good. I love the flat noodles. They give a complimentary soup which has been great every time. I have only been during lunch and never ordered off the dinner menu, which has more selections including a few duck dishes. What I have had was real good though. The prices aren't going to break the bank which is always good and makes it easier to reurn. Service has always been good too. Servers seem to know the menu well and have always answered questions. read more
