Okay okay quick edit to the original!! The waitress was not very helpful but we did get a growler of top notch ipa from the bartender (thanks for the samples terry!) and we have since learned that dogs tied to the outside is a standard Colorado law. I guess I still feel like this should be represented on places like yelp that "outsiders" use or at least have the staff better explain. Anyway...thanks for the beer! The growler is pretty sweet too. This was our favorite brewery to visit in Durango. Open just over a year, they produce enough to sell at their place and don't bottle or can. We loved their beers and the vibe of the place. Animas easily has the best beers in town. Yeah ska sells the most animas has the best. The food is relatively limited but fully gets it done and the outdoor patio is great. The setting is great and right on the river. read more

The outside patio in the afternoon with their Farmhouse ale and a good book makes for a very delightful experience. The food looked really tasty, but I was just enjoying my beer, book and the sun. Beer is good but the service stinks after 8:30 The hours of operation say open until 10:00 PM. Good luck trying to order a beer or food after 8:45! At 8:50 the bartender started cleaning the bar area with her back to the patrons at the bar and the wait staff sat down to eat. We left around 9:00 when she started to sweep and the dust and smell of pine sol was so bad-we left half our beer.s Not sure what the others did. read more

Found this charming spot on Yelp! The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The pretzel sticks were the best I've ever had and the cheese curds were perfect. The dipping sauces weren't necessary but so good, too! My husbands 50/50 burger was awesome and the chips were spot on. Best crust on a pastie I've ever had. This place is great! My family's favorite brewery on our trip to Durango. Beers were great. It was kid-friendly with large sheets of paper/crayons for the kids to draw. I was there yesterday with friends. The place has no a/c and it was so hot; I was wondering why I was putting up with it. The beer tasted good but it was not cold enough and since the temp was so hot, it got warm real fast. The food -- very limited and we all ordered different variety of burgers. They were dry!! and chips were meh. We did not try dessert because it was so hot we wanted get the hell out of the place. It is a nice location but the place needs some cold air and better food. It looked interesting but it did not deliver. I did not like bench style seating. Not comfy and too close to other sweaty people. read more

I ordered the Gold King sour beer and IPA and both were very good. The pretzel with mustard and cheese sauce was also tasty. It has doors that roll up to let fresh air in which is nice. The only downside is that the Raiders lost on the game they were showing. I'm pretty sure they won. Will be back soon. read more

Animas has a friendly staff and an interesting menu. The atmosphere is comfortable and not as hectic as Ska or Steamworks. The food is good and there are regular specials, but usually those specials are just variations on the regular menu items. The beer is good and the regular brews are consistent. They make special brews that change up every few weeks for something new. They have some big community tables where you can meet new people and the outdoor patio is very pleasant in the spring and summer. It doesn't get as packed as the places up on Main Street, making it a good spot for an impromptu dinner or beer. read more

Location is nice but if you are going here for the food, don't waste your time. Pastie was horribly dry and bland. No one in my party liked their meal. Wait staff was super rude to a couple that came in after us enough so that they left without even ordering. I would have left just because of that if I hadn't already ordered. Not worth eating at! Animas Brewing Company (ABC) has one thing and only one thing "going for it", or otherwise setting it apart: The emotional appeal of it's riverside location/setting. As for the rest of it's offerings, let give it a whirl: 1. Craft Beer. Craft beer is craft beer. You either like it, or you don't. If you don't like it, thats just too bad at ABC. You might stay longer if they offered you one of your favorites in a bottle. Every beer drinker has a 'go to' nationally distributed brew. In fact, we have a list of them, by order of preference. We would rather get way down on the our list of mass-produced products than drink a beer that we don't like at all. 2. The food: Everyone says the burgers are great. I haven't tried a burger, but here is what I do know based upon what I have ordered. It takes about 8 or 10 minutes to cook a chicken wing. When I order wings, and the order is up within 4 or 5 minutes, that means only one thing: precooked wings. They were tasteless, bland "blah" of microwaved/reheated uneven-temperature, juiceless wings in a "jerk sauce" that did nothing to overcome the fact they could have been cooked 3 weeks ago. You, ABC, served me cold "hot wings", slathered in an uneven coating of some random bottled brown and syrupy "jerk sauce". Thats minus 12 stars right there. Lets move on. Keg Rolls. Egg-roll like dish...stuffed and deep fried. They should have come out of the kitchen a steaming, mouth searing 300+ degrees. Unless they, like the wings, were not cooked to order. I hate to break it to the owners/managers of ABC, but microwaved food only gets to 212 degrees.... these items should have come out of the kitchen at nearly 350 degrees. Moving on? I could just stop here. Ok... I won't. I will say that the fish on the fish-and-chips special was okay, but serving hot fish with room-temperature, semi-stale "house made potato chips" is just a bad concept from the get-go. The cold item on the plate is supposed to be the coleslaw, not the chips. That was last sunday about noon, on my second visit. I had tried a pasty on my first trip several weeks ago, but notice that I didn't order one of those on my second trip? That should say all that needs to be said about that item as well. 3. Service: Service was GREAT. There were 8 employees (4 waitstaff, 1 bar tender, and 3 kitchen staff) on shift, and only about 6 customers, including an obvious minor (12-ish year old female) sitting at the bar. They had so much time on their hands, there was a lot of "coking and joking" going on and it was very difficult to determine who was responsible for what or if any of them were paying much attention to the particulars of running a restaurant. 4. Location: Relatively Awesome. 5: Interior: Pretty cool. Last call: If you like their beers, it's worth a stop for a beverage or to fill a growler. If you want to eat, go someplace else. read more

Not dog friendly at all. If you like to visit breweries with your pup, you'll have to tie them up outside the patio. Yes, I'm sure the extra 2 feet keeps your facility "more hygenic". Most of Durango is NOT dog friendly - we were very disappointed and will find a more hospitable town next summer. read more

Won't ever go here again!!! Tried to get a growler filled while in town for a ski trip. When I got to the counter to get it filled the man tending the bar said he wouldn't fill glass growlers. I asked the man why and he said they don't fill glass growlers because they are are close to the river. I can understand their policy but I was in ski clothes and it is the middle of winter. When I questioned him a bit he was kind of rude. As I walked out I said to myself plenty of other breweries in town that would fill my growler. So never even had a chance to know if I would like there beer. I do know that because they denied me I denied them the opportunity to serve the 25 people I was traveling with. What a cool place! Friendly staff greeted us as we walked in the door and asked if we would like to sit inside our outside, we choose inside. We were able to watch the brewer in action as he was just finishing up his most recent brew. I was curious to understand their brew process and he was very courteous and stopped to explain and answer all my questions. The Kolsch is the best we have tried anywhere! Our food order came shortly after we ordered, the pretzels, chips and beer cheese dip and traditional pasty was delicious! This place is worth a trip from Sacramento just for the outstanding Kolsh. Recently visited ABC on a sunny fall afternoon with friends and their 2 year old son. We ordered beers and after the beers came, the little boy was asking for raisins and we noticed we had left them in the car. We asked the waiter for a few dried cranberries or walnuts or a little something for the boy. Our waiter said no problem and came back and said the manger said "no, we can't do that". EXCUSE ME??!!? This is not customer service! We did not say we wanted it free, we just wanted him to bring a little something for the 2 year old. He went back and asked the chef and we were told that it was not allowed! Well, I see they have food there, what does it mean that the waiter is not allowed to bring food to the paying customers. I was so confused by this interaction. There is no way I would ever go there again! read more

Super cute building/decor, tasty beer (that doesn't distribute, so get it here or nowhere else!). The burger was yummy (especially after camping for a few days), and their beer had a few stand-outs (the saison was *delicious*). Definitely check it out if you're into craft beer--compared to Steamworks' cavernous, somewhat dank location, it had a wayyy better atmosphere, with rafting themed decorations, wood beams, and a clean floor. read more

Great location next to the Animas. We all enjoyed our main entrees, but the housemade pretzel bites were the best. Wish we ordered two! Nice outdoor patio. They don't allow pets on the deck of Animas or really anywhere in Durango. Durango is a very pet unfriendly place due to overly strict restrictions of the county health department. Even dog water bowls in front of a restaurant are regulated in Durango. In reading through Animas breweries other reviews and going through yelps filters I was under the impresssion that Animas was pet friendly - it is not - or at least it wasn't for me and my dog. It appears as if Animas lets some pets in but not others? Mine is a service dog so technically it should've been allowed but they didn't ask-- they just told me my pet wasn't allowed. In looking at other reviews it appears that other people take their dogs there so this restaurant must inconsistently enforce the no pet rule. In any event their staff should ask if the animal is a service animal and not just indiscriminately and inconsistently enforce a no pet rule. read more
