Ambiance is what this place has going for it but that's about it. I came here with a big group for a birthday. It was the first time for everyone. We ordered the hummus, smoked eggplant dip, artichoke spread, whipped ricotta, crispy octopus, and falafel to start. Everything tasted bland and one note except the crispy octopus which was very tasty. The falafel wasn't bad, it tasted fresh and crispy. We also got the oysters which were very fresh and scallop crudo that was again nothing special. The Margherita pizza had a tomato paste on it that was really thick and unappetizing. For the entree, I got the roasted branzino which had no flavor, no salt and a lot of bones. Very disappointing although visually the presentation was nice. Many friends got the Spiced Shortrib and were not impressed. I tried a bite and it tasted so bland. My husband got the Pork coppa which again had no flavor. One friend got the Harissa-rubbed chicken which ended up being the only decent entree there. I tried a bite and the chicken was juicy and flavorful. I really wanted to like this place. I've been to Merdian next door that has such great food and was expecting the same level but sadly it was not. read more

What a discovery for foodies! Anise features lots of small plates (entrées, too) with a fabulous Moroccan /North African accent. Inventive combinations and seasonings make every bite a burst of flavor, and the food is healthful to boot. The prices are surprisingly reasonable, given the amount of preparation that goes into each dish, and the wine list was full of lesser known discoveries, such as the crisp, refreshing white Moschofilero from Greece. Try a wine flight! We enjoyed the contemporary decor with warmth and intimacy created by a roaring fireplace, wicker lampshades, and wooden tables. The outdoor patio in the back adjoins the swimming pool and a spacious green lawn, all illuminated with patio lights, torches, and lamps for evening shimmer. It's nice and quiet out there (no music), which was a huge plus for us! The music inside was too loud for effortless conversation -- the only flaw in an otherwise perfect place. I recommend the crispy octopus, the duck rillettes, and the whipped ricotta with grilled fruit, pistachios, and mint -- all fabulous small plates. Anise also offers platters of cheese and charcuterie, which I will try next time, along with the pulled shoulder of lamb -- their signature entrée. Toke and Amelia, the sommelier, provided excellent service. Definitely put this restaurant in your rotation -- we are going back soon! read more

Anise has a new great chef : Chef Rene De Leon Jr. If you haven't been there, you should go. If you were there in the past and was not impressed, you should go back! My husband and I moved to Dallas less tan a year ago and we are on a mission to find good restaurants in Dallas ( not always easy) ! We travel the World looking for interesting places and , of course , good restaurants from a 3 star Michelin to a local pub. We now consider Anise one of the best in Dallas: the location is great, the place has a trendy/pretty decor, good service. Tried this place for after dinner drinks, and then the next day had brunch at the hotel because of how impressed my fiance was. Drinks were unusual and delicious. Brunch was honestly the best french toast I've ever had. Super good. Only sour note: breakfast flatbread was disappointing for the cost- not a lot of food. Might be good for dieters. 50% off Happy Hour.... Lies! Much like everything else in this development their happy hour of 50% off is false advertisement. It's actually only 35% off and they're skimming an extra 15% off every tab. I live here and everything that seems to be too good to be true, always is. I went for their HH last Tuesday, 7/25/23, to at least give it a shot, but I had a gut feeling that something was going to be wrong. And as soon as they brought me my tab, sure enough, the so called "50% off HH" was only 35%. And it wasn't about the few dollars I should have still gotten off my tab, it's the mere fact that this place and entire development is in such dire need for money their skimming 15% off every every single tab in the restaurant. I assume most wouldn't notice the missing 15% or don't have the spine to call them out, but I did, and the manager was first in shock that I would say something and tried to tell me the tab was correct. But oh he was quick to try and right their wrong when I proved to him, through their own menu showing regular pricing, that it was indeed not 50% off! There's a reason that HH menu doesn't have prices on it! Don't be naive people and check your tabs! This entire development of the Drey and Village is all about nickel and diming you to death, they don't care about their customers nor their residents, it's all about the money. read more

We were in Anise to celebrate college graduation and Mother's Day. We chose Anise because of it's amazing reputation. We were a party of 6 so had a reservation. We were 15 min early. The facility is tiny. All tables were full. No one looked ready to leave. A server greeted us and asked us to gather in the side cubby which has a couch and single chairs. We were offered beverages. And left to our own devices. There was a large party along the back wall. And tables of 2 and 4 scattered inside. It was quite cold inside and I went outside to warm up. After 10 min my d-i-l joined me. I was expressing my displeasure at being left to our own devices. A couple passed us when entering the restaurant. Five min later the chef/owner came out and told us they were getting more tables and would seat us soon as I was disparaging her restaurant.I told her it was a private conversation and I was disparaging her management not her cooking skills. Amazingly we were seated within 10 min.And 3 other tables were found. The service was good. They provide an amuse bouche. It was a really nice touch. The menus was intriguing. I had a crab cake that was perfectly made. My sons had chicken that was dry. My grandson had fish soup, a crab cake and a seafood gnocchi and was hungry. Not my favorite Mother's Day meal.The ice tea was good. read more

We tried Anise on Saturday night and it was quite awesome! I'm a bit into food and upon each course arriving our waiter described each course to a tee. We had 6, including dessert and a bottle of Prosecco (which was very nice). Our very lovely waiter, Anthony D, was an absolute delight!!! He made the evening very enjoyable! We talked about cooking/dinners etc and he made recos on all things to cook! Plus where to shop! He made the night fun! My wife and I booked a room last minute at the Drey and had the pleasure of being able to sit at the bar here. I thought we were both work for Valentin day, so I had to scramble. Needless to say Francisco and Amber saved the day. They both took great care of us from start to finish. Francisco for the second drink recommended a drink of his creation. He told me about a mushroom cocktail with rye whiskey. I've never had anything quite like it in a great way. Could not recommend this place enough especially if the bartenders are anything like Amber and Francisco. We only got the charcuterie board before we went elsewhere, but holy smokes it was great!! read more

A great little hidden gem inside of the drey hotel , from the location inside the beautiful boutique hotel to the wonderful attentive and friendly staff to a stunningly beautiful and cozy restaurant. I wish to give this place a million stars for the wonderful food and cocktails. Our bartenders Travis and Bryan did a phenomenal job with our cocktails and our sever Anthony did wonderful with knowledge and making this experience one of a kind. The Hostess Riley was very kind in accommodating to our large party. We will definitely be returning to anise with more friends and family. We had a wonderful dinner at Anise. We e started with drinks in the bar and continued to dinner on the back patio. The back patio is a great setting for dinner. I had read some reviews that criticized the staff. All I can tell you is that from the moment I walked in the door and met the hostess, to the bartender, to the waitress, and last but not least the sommelier, everyone was extremely friendly and nice. The sommelier was incredibly helpful in picking out a great bottle of wine. They have a great wine list. Did I mention that the assistant manager came over to our table to see how we were doing? She had so much energy and positive vibes. It just added to our experience. Most importantly, the food was excellent. This is the first review I have written in a long time, but the service and food were so good I felt compelled to do so. My only hesitancy is that as the word gets out, I won't be able to get a reservation next time! read more
