For five generations the Napolitano family has operated the Roosevelt now called Ann and Tony"s Restaurant in Little Italy in the Bronx. I can say my family has enjoyed dining there for five generations as well. My grandparents had my mother's graduation party from Roosevelt High School there in1934. I had my own graduation party from Roosevelt there in 1960. We have had so many family celebrations there over the next sixty years. Yesterday, my husband, one of our daughters and two grandsons returned for a pre Christmas Eve lunch. Chef and owner Tony was such an amazing host. We laughed and shed some tears over all our memories. I can honestly say his grandparents and parents would be so proud of him. I did not know his great grandparents,but they are glowing as well. To say the food is excellent and by far the best iItalian food in New York City, is an understatement. Some of the amazing dishes that we had yesterday were clams posillipo,caprese salad,veal parmigiana,lasagna,baked ziti and their special, Veal Ann and Tony"s.I am looking forward to having my entire family dine there soon. Food was excellent here! I ordered the penne alla vodka, which was delicious. I was able to taste the fresh cream in the vodka sauce, it was not too salty, and the pasta was cooked perfectly. Salad greens were fresh and crisp. My family members all enjoyed the dishes they ordered as well. We didn't have a reservation and they were able to accommodate us quickly. Our server was attentive and we did not wait very long to receive our meals, even though the restaurant was quite crowded. My only complaint is that the menu was limited, I would have liked to see more creative meal options aside from the classic Italian dishes typically found in Italian restaurants. read more

The menu has a lot of options, and as you'd expect, some are better than others.The chicken cardinale is very good. Pasta dishes are flavorful but often a little heavy. I like their cheesecake. However, I have an issue with the service at Ann & Tony's. I have found that they really turn on the charm if things are quiet, but if it gets crowded, they become very inattentive and unwilling to accommodate the needs and requests of their customers. Considering how busy this and other restaurants in the area can get, you'd think they'd be more adept at handling a full room...or at the very least stay pleasant while trying to do so. Overall, in terms of both food and service, Ann & Tony's is hit-or-miss. I wouldn't completely warn anyone away from coming here, but there are other eateries on Arthur Avenue that I'd recommend first. read more

Wow. Bad wow. My friend and I decided to find a new place to eat and looked to Arthur Ave. We found Ann & Tony's and gave it a try. Immediately after walking in the door I wanted to leave but had locked eyes with the staff and felt bad doing an about face right then. There was an immediate blast of freezing cold AC (in the middle of November) followed by the unmistakable smell of mildew first thing in the door. The decor is drab, the carpeted floors appear in need of a deep deep clean. On your way to the bathroom you squeeze through an obstacle course of a small hallway half overtaken by stacks of unused chairs and other bramble. You would think that these signs would result in some strong decision making in ordering "safe" foods but no, it did not. We were set on enjoying seafood, and so we ordered the clams casino to start and the seafood platter to split between the two of us for our main course. I watched the (dirty) kitchen doors with great fear and anxiety as I considered the condition of the public quarters and wondered how this apparent disregard for high standards would translate behind those closed doors, but we forged ahead anyways. The clams were the worst I have ever ever had or thought about. There was no consistency between them from one shell to the next. Some were bitter and horrible, some were overcooked- just terrible all around. The platter. It was like a nightmare when it arrived. We literally laughed at the monstrosity in front of us as we tried to eat what we could and hide the intimidating little baby squids under empty clam shells. Overcooked shrimp, seemingly unsafe clams, overcooked crab- just completely Kitchen Nightmares type bad. When we visited there was only one other table occupied besides ours. Maybe it was "Twilight Zone" night or something. I don't like giving bad reviews like this, and I hope this visit was just a really really bad night and not the norm. read more

I came here on a Friday night and ordered baked ziti w ricotta and chicken cutlet for take out. After paying about 23$ for my dish I was expecting some amazing food. Instead what I got was extremely soft chicken cutlet of very cheap quality and soft baked ziti with no ricotta.; it was basically like a soup. I don't understand why it is so hard for a place to execute such a simple dish. If your going to charge this kind of money I would expect quality. Any Pizzaria could have made a better dish for sure and for half the price. I don't get it, I won't try another dish when you can't even make something so simple, on the other hand I will give them 2 stars because it didn't taste absolutely horrible, but don't give me Pizzaria food for restaurant prices read more

I came here with family yesterday for the Ferragosto celebration, and after checking out Yelp prior to entering, I warned my family that this place had disappointing reviews. Welp, I was right! Service was super SLOW, and the restaurant was really outdated. It felt like we were transported back to the 70's in a scene from The Godfather or something. I ordered the meat ravioli... and received precisely 5 of them. They were overcooked and had no flavor. My grandparents ordered 2 veal dishes and they were both drowned in sauce. I was underwhelmed by this restaurant. We went there with some friends (we did have reservation, we had not been there before) we were sat at a back table (there was an open door somewhere letting cold air in) the pasta sauce tasted like it came from a can the the breading on the calamari was uninspired. The service was also slow and inattentive. As a recent transplant I expected better from a NYC area Italian place. Looking forward to trying other better places. read more

The food is definitely not the BEST that Arthur Avenue has to offer, but there are other reasons to make Ann and Tony's the restaurant of your choice should you be in the area. The menu is fairly pedestrian sampling of standard Italian American foodstuffs, and the dining room falls well short of the upscale nature for which it is clearly aiming (there are plastic evergreens with white twinkle lights above the molding year round). The food is always good, but the flavors are hardly going to blow your mind, and you certainly won't have anything that you haven't had before. That being said, Ann and Tony's has the nicest staff, and they know how to run a restaurant. I have been here more than 5 times, often in large large groups, and I have never had a single complaint about our meal. The outside has been recently redone, and it looks amazing. The prices are among the most reasonable in the area, and they are great for a large dinner party. Their menu has a quaint mom and pop story on the back, and I love menus with a story especially if they feature amusingly bad writing like this one. I always see the same waiters, and they are always working hard, with a smile on their face. They always have great bread and plenty of seasoned olive oil to dip it in. They always serve you a fresh leafy green salad with radishes, cucumbers and tomatoes before your entree. They always include a side of a vegetable or pasta with your entree (I'll admit the sides generally are a snooze, but hey, it's free so who's complaining). In short, they always pull out all the stops to give you the full Italian dining experience. Arthur Avenue's other restaurants may offer a more exciting or authentically Italian dining experience, and the food here may occasionally fall on the bland side of flavorful, but Ann and Tony's is extremely reliable, and you will always be treated well, even if you come in a group of twenty. You will feel at ease and will be able to enjoy the company of your fellow diners without noise or hubbub, and at the end of the night, you will leave warm, full and satisfied. In that regard, it trounces the super classy, much hyped Zero Otto Nove, which has amazing food and decor, but treats its customers VERY shabbily indeed. read more

They didn't help and didn't seem remotely concerned that there wasn't enough food. And to top it off the house wine was awful. There was a reason why it was empty on a sat night. This place has the worst customer service. We were the only two in the restaurant and we had to get up several times to ask where our food was. Then we needed to leave to get back to work we had to hunt someone down again. It was great food but the worst service ever. Dont think I will ever go back there again. Very disappointing. Bread was excellent, staff very friendly and service was fine, though a little inattentive. Nice portion of wine. Food was a serious letdown for being on the famous Arthur Avenue - calamari was kinda gross, stuffed artichoke was a pile of lemon-flavored mush, and my chicken/veal rollitini combo was fine (nothing special) though it looked just like my husband's chicken marsala. Went for lunch to this place after looking at the reviews on Yelp. We were looking for some authentic Italian cooking in the Bronx. The ambience was nice, and waiter was attentive. Presentation of the food was sub-par, with lack of seasoning and flavor that you would expect from Italian cuisine. The waiter suggested the veal Parmesan and Rigatoni with Sausage. Veal was edible, and the sausage had no flavor or spices in it. Overall, a disappointing experience...we had gone in expecting much more. read more

Sub-par quality, it started with the bad appetizer, rubbery shrimp, tasteless, then came the main curse (course I meant); the veal Marsala, it is usually a safe bet, you can't screw it up but they managed to do just that, I took one bite of the veal and almost spit it right back out, so was the mushroom with the weird sauce that tasted like Valvoline motor oil...(gross...I prefer Mobil oil). I just sat there the entire time with my full plate in front of me untouched until my wife finished eating a small portion of her tasteless pasta dish, I asked for the check, paid the $83 bill and left, as I am paying the bill with a full plate in front of me you would think the waiter or staff would ask if everything was ok?...... Think again!....I can only guess that they are used to that..... lol I have dined in Arthur Ave countless times since 1989, there are several fine restaurants there, I dine out about a dozen times a month all over, and as one might expect there have been some good meals, some ok ones and some bad ones, but this one was the worst, this is the only time ever I left a restaurant to buy a sandwich from a deli across the street. Skip this one, Fuggedaboutit, you will be glad you did. And for the other foodies that rated this restaurant 3, 4 and even 5 stars....all I will say is: I don't get it. read more

We ate there and we're disappointed after giving them a second chance from being there a few weeks ago. It should be called Ann and "phonies" because it barely resembles good Italian food. The sauce (gravy) is the same on every dish and has no flavor. I think the owner needs to stick with acting because the restaurant has gone downhill. First the good news: The homemade pasta dishes are delicious and flavorful (due to the abundance of olive oil); the tasty mixed seafood entree was 100% shellfish and fish. Now the not-so-good news, a much longer list: The complimentary salad is boring iceberg lettuce with some sliced tomato and cuke; the beverage selection is inadequate, archaic and disappointing; it appears that the decor has not been updated since the restaurant opened; the servers clearly dislike their jobs, way beyond the usual "NYC-waiter-attitude" one expects; I would NEVER park my car on the streets of this neighborhood (assuming any parking was actually available), yet traveling to The Bronx via MTA (with a very long walk from the subway) is not a much better choice; the prices are far, far too high once everything is taken into consideration. I ordered chicken limone, and I got a soggy chicken cutlet with a skin drenched in a less than impressive sauce that was an inch deep in my plate. The place is outdated and the red carpet does nothing for ambiance. I should have left as soon as I first sat down and saw crumbs of bread(not my own) on the plate. Came here with family after a show at the Botanical Gardens tonight. A nice little Italian place in the Bronx. Interior ambiance is nice and there are a lot of nice photographs and artwork on the walls. Food was good, I had linguine frutti di mare (their special for the day) and some mussels as appetizer. Stumbled upon this restaurant tonight. Menu had tripe, my father's favorite, which you don't really see in most Italian restaurants. Antipasto reminded me of my mother's - so good, we ordered a second. Lasagna and spaghetti and clams using fresh pasta. This place was just alright. The food was decent, and reasonably priced. We ordered the chicken scarp which was good, the chicken limone, the carbonara which was lacking, and the spinach ravioli special which was very good. For our appetizers we got the hot antipasto and the garlic bread. The garlic bread was sad and greasy, with the mozzarella placed oddly on it, only covering about half of the bread. We asked for our meals to be over linguini, and they instead gave us sides of spaghetti with sauce. read more

The chicken parm was off the charts and the sauce...oh the sauce...it was so damn delicious I ordered a case of their homemade sauce to be shipped home. This place rocks. read more

Just a follow up on my recent review of Ann and Tony'a Instead of putting back the fradulant charges he is threatening me and my husband with a law suit for putting our experience on his facebook page. I believe that this is not the first time they do this but they got caught red handed. instead of being apologetic his ignorance is as if we should be afraid of him. I was the victim of fraud, when i walk into this restaurant to patronized them they victimized me by adding tip to my credit card without my permission of more than half the cost of the dinner. What a shame, I may just call the police and press charges, even thought my bank is doing their investigation. To follow up on the recent comment, This is one of the restaurant in a hotel program that I participate in to earn hotel points when I dine there. I have reported that incident to them as well. read more
