Nasty. Ordered some food and prolly some of the lowest quality stuff I've had. I heard the Schaumburg one is good tho

After a long day at Devon avenue, I decided to pick up food for dinner. I wanted to eat a good vegetarian meal and this restaurant had decent reviews, hence ordered through Yelp. First of all, the prices are pretty reasonable. I got a lot of items in 30 bucks. I ordered dabeli, samosa, cutlet, dal makhni, malai kofta, roti, chhole bhature and pav bhaji. Samosa- tasted fine, filling tasted good but the pastry was not crispy. Cutlet- these were aloo bonda instead of cutlet, I did not like them Dabeli- my dabeli had just two peanuts, very less chutney and too much onion, not good Dal makhni- it tasted like simple homemade dal but nothing like dal makhni. Still, tasted fine for homemade version Malai kofta- again not close to malai kofta you get in restaurants back in India but tasted fine Roti- soft and good Chhole bhature- tasted just ok nothing like you get back in Delhi For me, the food reminded me of an average home style cooking. read more

They messed up the order twice. When I pointed it out and called out the price difference they were very rude and did not even offer to make it right. The lady in the serving was very harsh and told us that this is all you get since the item was already served. She did not offer to charge back on price difference on the messed up order. Dosa was ok, even though that is not what we ordered but the chutney was stale. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. They made a HUGE DEAL over my service dog coming into the store with me for 2 mins to order tea when it's 30 degrees outside. I understand if you're scared but you can't deny service to someone with a service dog. read more

Delicious vegetarian food! The chats at this place (Dahi Puri and kachori chat) are delicious. We also sampled the Gujarati thali, a weekend special. The rice, sweet Gujarati Kadi and vegetables were mouth watering. If you're in a mood for delicious vegetarian food - definitely give this place a try! read more

This restaurant is amazing!! There food may not be as authentic as Mysore woodlands but there snacks and chats are amazing here. We have been eating from Annapurna for more than 6 years now and the quality of taste has definitely gone down over the years. But still we ate from here, once in a while because of the comfort, food options and the location. But this is it. We would never ever visit or eat food from here again.  Last week, on Dec 25th 2019, we ordered a simple Veg Thali and Chole Bhature for dinner. Our family had such a severe case of FOOD POISONING, it was unbelievable. Whole night me, my husband and my 2 year old kid threw up. We all had fever and weakness. My husband was bedridden for days and my two year old kept crying all the time due to nausea and sickness. He could not even keep water down his tummy. I cannot even express how horrible it feels to console a crying baby who is throwing up his guts out while holding down your own nausea  and sickness and all the while dealing with another infant. TBH, our kid just ate a few small bites of that meal. And thank god for that. I don't know what would have happened if he had a proper meal. It took sometime for each of us to get to our normal selves and eat regular food at home.  I have been a foodie all my life. I have travelled across many countries and eaten street food as well as restaurant food for weeks at a stretch with absolutely no issue. This was the first time I went through such a hell experience. I would never eat anything from Annapurna again and would recommend others to be cautious as well! read more

Stopped by this place on a typical Thursday evening for some veg food! We usually go to Woodlands but they only had indoor seating. I know I've been here before and it was definitely a better experience than last time. They have indoor and outdoor seating which is great and super airy. The staff working here were very friendly and helpful. We ordered two plain dosa's, samosa chaat and veggie burger with fries. The dosas were really good! A little crispier than I usually like it but really good! The sambar and chutney could use a bit more flavor but was mediocre to say the least. The samosa chat was ummm... how shall i say this... a little too salty but mediocre as well. I would've liked a little more fixings on it but I could always ask for that next time. The veggie burger and fries (not pictured) were great, can't ever go wrong with that, can ya?!! Overall, would definitely recommend this place. read more

Would've given 3.5 If I could.. Heard a lot about the Indian street food here, so I had to check it out. Vegetarian place where the Samosa's are good, chaat papri is way better than any other shops on devon, raj kachori is alright. Mango shake and lassi both tasted fresh. I'm a huge chai fanatic so I got that as well, not mind blowing but thought it was pretty decent. The only issue I have with this place is their 'red imli/tamarind chutney/sweet chutney' that is usually served with most Indian street foods. It is not sweet or tangy like it's supposed to be, It has a weird dull brown color and an off putting coriander/cumin aftertaste. Just to reassure that it wasn't a one- time thing, I tried their gol gappa's on a different occasion. Although, the gol gappa's/pani puri were amazing (came with chickpea, potato salad, tangy water) the imli chutney had the same issue. Note- you can also do the gol gappa's as take out and they package the components very neatly. Service has been good, the lady at the counter assisted me patiently. Ambiance is alright, 90's bollywood music which can get too loud sometimes. All in all, will def return! read more

I have been to Annapurna several times and have found it to be consistently fresh food served in a clean and inviting atmosphere. The new location with outdoor patio dining is a real plus. While I have not tried everything on the menu ( I return always to pan puri, samosa chaat, dosa, bhel puri, coconut water, sugar cane) , I have yet to have a dish that does not deserve a high rating. I might add that the owners (usually there) and staff are attentive, accomodating and have always made me feel that they want my experience to be excellent. I have found, when it is not busy, the staff quite willing to engage in friendly conversation and explain menu items with which I am not familiar. read more

This is probably the only one restaurant we like to visit when we go for shopping at devon. They have all vegetarian options which are great at taste. Cant say 100% perfect authentic taste but many dishes are delicious. We specially like Dabeli and katori chaat here. Chole bhature are way too oily than you can imagine. South indian food is average. If you are really hungry , you can give a try. read more

I've been craving a dosa for one whole month & finally got the chance to go get one. I arrived at 1pm & the staff said the dosa guy is on break. So we ordered something else & ate & sat for awhile. Then we even walked around & came back at 4pm & according to staff "he's not back from break". They could of said it in a nice way but the girls at the counter had the biggest attitude ever. I love Annapurna but sometimes, they fuck up. I always get bhel/pani/dahi puri from here and it's always been dine-in. But I ordered to-go the last time and they literally gave us some fillings with the sauce but no other toppings which comes with usually. I still love this place, but I would never make it to-go ever again! Dine-in can get annoying at times. There are hardly any seats available and it's always packed when we go. Nonetheless, out of all the other spots I have been to, Annapurna is more neat (but not so neat) and have better quality snacks/food. It's always a hit or miss with this place, they used to be really good and then they just sort of got lazy after the remodel. The chutney are off and never the right consistency, you could tell they had gone off because the container had swollen and once you open it it smells rotten--especially the coconut chutney. Or sometimes they are so watered down it's a disgrace. They don't take ownership or accountability when approached about the issue. From one Desi to another, stop cutting corners, one day someone is going to get really sick!! read more

Vegans, Vegetarians, check it out! I am a huge fan of authentic Indian cuisine, and Annapurna has a variety of excellent options to satisfy the hungry picky carnivore you might bring along with you. Thali, Aloo dishes, Samosa, Chat, Chana Masala, and Daal dishes fill the menu from top to bottom, and all of them can be had at a very reasonable price in either half or full orders. When I went, like almost always, I requested a variety of dishes to try, and was glad I did. Pro Tips: Order it to-go, and avoid the plastic and Styrofoam plates/dishes as much as possible. I was sad to see that such good food arrived with a plastic fork, so next time I'll do take out. Order extra rice, and extra naan - because I've found that it's always better to have too much than not enough, especially since so many of the dishes have extra sauce. Go at a slightly off-time - trust me on this one. Because everyone who visits this location also loves authentic cuisine, I quickly found that the small space fills up fast! I also went right at the height of dinner, (between 5-7pm), and it was almost standing room only. (Which is always the sign of good food.) Try a dish you haven't ever had as an extra. I honestly don't understand the negativity in some of the other reviews, this place is amazing. The food is great and the restaurant is clean. Me and my friend got the kachori chaat, bhel puri, and idli sambar. All of them were seriously perfect. The kachori chaat and bhel puri were both crunchy and fresh and had a perfect amount of chutneys. And the idli sambar was also perfect, as usual. Overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone, and I will definitely be back. read more

Visited Annapurna at lunch time on a Sunday (group of 5 people). Was a reasonably busy time. Ordered several entree's. Hits: dosas came out crisp and piping hot. Masala (potato filling) was on point. Sambar and chutney (accompaniments) were reasonably authentic. Samosa chaat was well made. The restaurant was clean and seemed well maintained. Misses: Dahi puri was sub par on multiple levels. The filling seemed like it was thrown together at the last minute (boiled garbanzo beans?). The puris were broken and seemed flat (literally). Usually, this is a simple dish, which is difficult to mess up. Multiple entrees (malai kofta, baingan bharta and bhindi) ordered as take away were really disappointing and poorly put together. Bottom Line: you'll probably be ok if you stick to their strengths. The menu needs some rethinking. As a vegetarian restaurant, a narrower focus and emphasis on flavor + quality would be helpful. Their location is quite competitive and finding a niche will help differentiate this place from other restaurants in the area. read more

Quite good dosas, sambar and chutney more so-so. The dosa itself came out hot and crispy, with a nice flavor to the filling, but sambar was a bit watery and underflavored. I went with a friend who used to live in South India, and they generally shared this opinion---the food is "reasonable" and authentic, but not exceptional. Found ourselves on Devon Avenue one day and eventually the big question about where to eat. Too many Halal restaurants and many "is that even hygienic enough to be legal?" looking store fronts. Checked Yelp a lot and decided on this place. Walked it and it was heartening to see a place full of lively customers at that odd hour when it's too late for a late lunch and too early for an early dinner. Tight quarters, busy staff and not the best seats. So why 5 stars? Well, it tasted like homemade cooking, nobody seemed to rush us (we stayed for well over an hour) and great bang for your buck. We were staring at each other in joyous disbelief when our food arrived. Totally hogged for the next hour and forgot that the food had taken some time to come. If you're a fan of Indian fare, they seemed to have done justice to both north and south Indian dishes (we're one of each). Portion sizes are generous and the ambience is very casual. You just gotta make sure you get in outside of "rush" hours as I imagine the place would be packed otherwise and worsen your experience. Oh, and I didn't write the review for you. I wrote it so I'm not stuck on Devon Avenue ever in the future again trying to remember the name and/or location of this easy to miss gem. That should tell you something. Heard about this hole in the wall place next to Patel Brothers, and knew we had to check it out. There is not a lot of fuss in the seating area. You order at the back at the counter and are given a number. There was so many people inside that we had to stalk out a table since the place was so packed. They call your number when your food is ready. We had samosa chaat which was hot, fresh with a fantastic assortment of flavors with the different chutneys. The chickpeas were well cooked and great together. The other thing we got was a masala dosa, which came with sambhar and a coconut chutney. Again, this was fresh and very tasty. Lastly, I got palak paneer with roti and rice. The roti was also fresh, and piping hot and was the perfect compliment to the palak paneer. The entire meal for 3 people cost us about $16 which is pretty good. Again, there is not a lot of fuss with presentation but the food is amazing. read more
