This place is across from where I live. I usually go when I have a friend in town or I am super hungry and don't want to make breakfast. The food is decent, but some meals are super greasy and the portions are ridiculous. This is why america is FAT :( Seriously they need to look into portion control. Also on a few occasions we had waitresses say they can't do something or substitute things as we have always said we would pay extra for the service, it still seemed like something they just could not input into the computer. I really don't care, just make it happen. We are here to enjoy a great breakfast, so to get a good tip, I suggest you figure it out! Came here for the first time today. Very good sized parking lot and easy to find. We had 3 people eating breakfast around 11am and were able to get a table pretty easily. The restaurant is very large inside and has 3 separate dining room areas. I ordered 2 eggs, toast, turkey patties, hash browns for about $8 Boyfriend ordered Original Eggs Benedict and side of sausage links about $9 plus extra for the links Other guest ordered an omlette with pancakes and hash browns Good: they were speedy with getting the food out and checking on us routinely Meh: the food was just okay, nothing great... I can make better eggs and my boyfriend's poached eggs weren't cooked enough. The sauce also wasn't too either of our liking. We've definitely had better at other locations. read more

I attempted to order through Grubhub tonight. The app indicated that the restaurant would stop taking orders at 7:45 pm because it was closing for the night. I placed my order at 6:58, 47 minutes before the cutoff time. The app indicated 35-45 minutes until delivery. I received a call at 7:28 that the restaurant was closed so my order was cancelled. Yet even the restaurant's website indicates they are open until 8 pm. So let me get this straight? I ordered in plenty of time. But it took 30 minutes to cancel? When it was supposed to be delivered in 35-45 minutes? If a restaurant has a clear cut off time...shouldn't that be in the app? And if the app is wrong, shouldn't the restaurant try to make the customer happy? Especially since they were actually still open? And they don't provide the driver; Grubhub does. This is by far the worst breakfast place I've ever been to. I met two friends here for brunch on a Saturday morning. It was packed, and the service was lacking, but my problem was with the food. My skillet was the greasiest, grossest soaking pile of potatoes and eggs that I'd ever had! I literally felt ill afterwards. Some of the potatoes were so shiny and soggy that I couldn't even pick them up with a fork. Also, their upcharge pricing for substitutions is ridiculous for the suburbs -- $4 to make my two pancakes gluten free? Really? For $15 before tip, I had a more expensive and worse-tasting brunch than I'd had anywhere else in the area. My friend seemed to like her potato pancakes, so maybe the skillets are just not their best item? But I sure won't come here again. Now I have to say, the wait times can be a BIT much when your sitting at the little bench and see all these tables empty. Our waitress this time was very attentive, however I have had the rude waitress mentioned in other reviews. To say that she THREW my food at me wouldnt be much of an exaggeration. But this past visit was really good. My friend had a HUGE greek omelet that was loaded with feta chunks. I had something off the specials menu called the nutella delight. OH MY GOD! It was amazing on french toast. Basically globs of nutella and a sweet cream. Also drizzles of chocolate and whipped cream. TALK about a calorie bomb but CRAP was it good!!! I was full for the whole day on the sweetness alone! Throw on some fresh strawberries and it was heaven! Prices are fair, for the two of us it was like twenty five-ish. We always get a table fast the menu is amazing ....the cherry heaven creates & cherry heaven French toast are amazing, the oatmeal is good and crunchy French toast is grandpas fav!!! Great little restaurant right near Rolling Meadows/ Palatine border.   The Red Apple is a gem.  The food is very good,  the place is clean,  and the staff is friendly and efficient.  The front half of the restaurant runs warm and the back runs cold.  My wife has regularly gotten the eggs Benedict and the country fried steak(some of the best she's had!)  I like the grill cook's medley and the skillets most and we both like the pancakes The prices are reasonable and consistent with the type of food being served.  Late Sunday morning is not the time to come eat though; 3 waiting areas exist: space between the dining rooms/in front of cashier,  the space between the outside and inside doors,  and outside.  They have tvs on the walls which I believe usually have sports or political channels playing, but bring your own children's toys/activity.  They've never offered my daughter any crayons. read more

Stopped here after work, before a dental appointment, and got the "Crunchy French Toast" and a side order of bacon. The place was pretty empty, as it was still early. We will be going back, used to be loyal Palatine Inn folks, but that place has changed int he past 5 years, quailty of the food and service has gone down while prices have gone up.. I laughed, I even noticed 2 of the waitresses from PI came over to Red Apple, I spoke with one and she said things just werent the same anymore. Anyway I digress. Huge think cut bacon, thick moist french toast/ pancakes, huge amounts of mozzarella on my portobello and country ham skillet.. me and my husband were blown away. Totally unexpected. Not only was the food exceptional, the entire staff was happy and joking, from our host to our server to our bus person. Good solid breakfast place. Good service and fast seating. The pecan waffles were just right and filled with pecans - instead of just on the top. My son thought the hash browns were better than most places because the oil was fresh. The crepes were good but the filling could have been a bit more fresh - it tasted like vanilla pudding! Years later and this restaurant is still the most consistent little gem around. I popped in here this morning for breakfast with my daughter, was seated right away and it is astounding how fast they bring you your food. I have no idea how they do it but I love it and kudos to the chef! The food is fabulous the vegetables are always big fresh pieces, the portions are large, especially on the kids menu items and the atmosphere is so warm and friendly. I love Red Apple, it is very close to home and the food is always good. I have yet to wait more than a minute or two for a table and they are super speedy with take out. Their breakfast portions are large and fresh - the bacon is huge! The skillets are really good as well. The place was very busy--always a good sign--but we were seated within a minute or two. We decided to order two things and share: Pumpkin pancakes and a meat-filled skillet (eggs, ham, sausage and potatoes). Really fantastic food, in fact, the portions were really large, but we managed to clean our plates! I would definitely come back here again for breakfast, but would really like to try their lunch menu. If they do a good burger or BLT, this would be a regular dining spot for me. read more

This was my first time here and I loved the cozy atmosphere. I stepped through the door and before the group I was with even finished getting inside we were already being taken care of. I ordered fresh orange juice and the waitress said to be careful with the seeds because they literally just squeezed it. It was so delicious! For my dish I ordered the "French Orchard". I highly recommend it. It's french toast with cinnamon apples on top, bacon and any style eggs. They serve free coffee per person with any meal $5.99 or up as long as you get there before 11 am. The waitress kept coming over to check on us and kept refilling our waters and coffee without us having to ask. The place is so cute with their apple theme. Even their clock has apples on it. Not Yum. Lower than average. We were a group of 6 people that went for breakfast on a Wednesday morning. The quantity of food was ample but my wife and I were terribly disappointed in the eggs benedict. The sauce especially. It was a very runny, mustard color sauce that did not have any visual appeal. It did not taste like hollandaise sauce. Also, they leave pitchers of coffee on your table instead of constantly coming back for refills. The second pitcher of coffee left at the table was cold. Okay, I can forgive the cold coffee, but I cannot forgive the very bad eggs benedict. We wanted to like the place; and the service and cleanliness were wonderful. But, we are afraid of going back. The waitress is extremely rude. Although we were begging we could not get coffee. We asked another waitress who clearly has gotten tired of trying to cover for the other waitress to bring us coffee she flat-out ignored us and ran. Our waitress came back and and asked us not to ask the other people for coffee it's making them angry. She also took the time to explain to us not to go get our own coffee because of the fact that it's an insurance reason. Then she walked away and didn't get our coffee. I did talk to the manager of the restaurant. He seemed more interested in knowing who we were rather than what the waitress had done wrong. read more

Menus online were wong. Ordered Mediterranean skillet. Had it there in the past. They added onions, tomato, feta, spinach, green pepper and gyro meat. Ingredients weren't very cooked and the whole thing was dry. Used to have only onions, tomato and feta. Called to let them know order was not what I wanted and online menus were wrong. Person who answered wasn't very friendly and said menu had changed. Acted like I should have known that and no offer to make it right. Potato pancakes were very dry with no flavor, added way too much flour. Regular pancakes also not very good. Used to love this place, seems like a totally different restaurant now. read more

My husband and I stopped in for breakfast here, for our first time. The hostess sat us promptly and our server was nice enough. They have a good size menu, I got 2 eggs with hashbrowns and bacon - my husband got the eggs benedict with a side of sausage links. The food was served SUPER quick, the sausage and bacon was delicious!! However my hashbrowns were cold and my husband's dish had a hair on it. The server apologized and they made him a new dish, which was good but then when we got the bill there was no discount or mention of the hair. Remaking it was nice, but then my eggs and bacon also got cold waiting for his food. I understand things can happen but at the end of the day that's not sanitary and it would have been nice to see more done. Red Apple is a weekend staple in our house! Sure its crowded on a Saturday morning, but their friendly staff goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable. If there is a wait, its no longer than 10 minutes. And who can complain when their food comes out quick, hot, and delicious...?? We've tried just about everything on the breakfast menu: skillets, breakfast burritos, egg sandwiches, omelets, pancakes, etc. Our favorites include: eggs benedict (a wide variety to choose from), biscuits and gravy, and crunchy french toast. Been here many many times. Love the giant omelettes - especially the Californian, with avocado and mushrooms and lots of cheese. Potato side is just OK, but that's not why I go there. Eat a late breakfast and you won't need to eat again that day! The lunch menu items look great, but I can't stop myself from ordering a darned omelette! A friend is a big fan of the Alpine - it comes with potato pancakes. They will substitute within reason. Ask for the flavored coffee creamers. The menu is very similar to the Red Apple Pancake House on Schmale Road in Carol Stream, but it's not usually as crowded in Palatine. read more

Great place. They do get very busy on weekend mornings, but they strive to be attentive and quick when in comes to service. Lots of great breakfast options. Among my family's favorites: crepes, pancakes, and burgers. Omelets are fresh and delicious as well. Two dishes that I tried that I probably would not reorder are eggs benedict and the skillets. The hash browns are too greasy for my taste. However, they have delicious french fries, usually seasoned really well. The soups are better than what you usually get at diners. Breakfast has always held an important place in my heart. When you figure that, most days, my training diet doesn't allow food until 11 or 12, it takes on a whole new meaning. We were seated almost immediately, at a 4 seater table next to the fireplace. The interior is decorated with a country kitchen feel, but tastefully. You get a warm sense of being home, minus the cooking and cleanup. Before us was a menu loaded with every combination possible, of fresher cooked goodies. It took us some time to land a decision, what with all the incredible combinations and choices. Skirt steak and eggs, with blueberry pancakes for me, the BF got a Mediterranean omelet with avocado, fruit on the side, and a fresh baked blueberry muffin. (Which was still warm from the oven) Food came flying out to the table in a matter of minutes and we dove into the perfectly prepped plates before us. Our waiter was super personable, had us laughing and kept our coffee cups full. This is how you do breakfast. Upon leaving, there was a small line. The hostess apologized and chatted with us before Sam, (an owner) rang us out. Both of them were so polite and happy to have us- it just made the experience that much better. Everything about this place will keep me coming back. It has that family feel that other breakfast chains truly can't compete with. From the looks of the parking lot, it looked like there would be a wait. There wasn't. The parking lot is just awful. We were seated right away and were asked if we wanted anything to drink by 2 people (I have to say, the service was probably the best part about this place). The menu is pretty big - they have your standard breakfast and American lunch foods. Pancakes, waffles, omelettes, crepes, sandwiches, soups, salads, skillets, etc. I decided on an omelette, and my friend got a waffle. We both said it wasn't bad, just not great. The food was a little bland, his egg whites had some yolks in it, and my omelette was a little dry. It just wasn't the wow factor I was looking for. Would I come back? Yes. It was quite busy , which insured us of the good food at least. We were sat quickly and served quickly. Chris was our server and she nailed service with a smile. Our food was delicious.
