The food is consistently good; my wife says it is like First Watch, but with more variety and booze. Some of the staff members are a little... Idiosyncratic, but not in a bad way. I just wanna start this off by saying I brought my 90 pound golden retriever to brunch and they were very accommodating the server even brought him out a dog bowl with water I ordered the crab benny with potato's instead of grits and it was top 3 for me. It wasn't over cooked it was perfection. My friend ordered the traditional breakfast platter and added a he was hungry. And he's a picky eater and he asked to come back next time. The service was great we came about 11:15 called ahead because of the dog the girl who answers the phone was friendly and warm. We walked right in and got a seat. Unremarkable -- Not worth the visit, in my opinion. My friend and I went there for Sunday brunch. I ordered a basic breakfast of eggs, grits and their homemade sausage. The plate itself had no presentation (I may have been watching too many food/chef TV shows, but still, it should have at least looked appetizing!). The eggs were on the dry side. If you can't cook an egg, you probably shouldn't be cooking. The homemade sausage was dry and overcooked. The grits were the only thing they managed to get right as far as my food. I am Southern, so at least they knew how to cook grits. (I ordered regular grits; not the city grits they offered.) As for the drinks -- I ordered a latte with a double shot of espresso. Yet after I drank it, I did not feel the usual caffeine rush. It didn't even taste like real espresso. I asked our waitress what type of espresso they use. She brought me a ***packet*** of ground coffee. Not fresh roasted beans, just a packet. Now, in a pinch I have had Keurig before and Nespresso, but this wasn't even as passable as either one of those. I prefer fresh, whole ground, roasted espresso beans myself, so if you are going to tell me that you serve espresso, I am going to assume it is the real thing. My mistake. It wasn't. My mimosa lacked any semblance of real orange juice pulp. So again, probably made from a mix, not anything freshly squeezed. It seemed as bland and unremarkable as the espresso had. My friend had a Bloody Mary that had something real in it -- a giant piece of fennel that was so huge it was laughable. If you want to serve Bloody Marys with fennel, maybe make the fennel something the customer can keep in the drink while sipping (it was impossible as it was too big). His Bloody Mary was tasty, however, so that was a plus. Other annoyances for me were the fairly inattentive wait staff; the selection of ubiquitous rock music for brunch (really? that is the best you can do? -- it made me want to get out of there as soon as possible, and I like rock music ... but not for brunch, and not the most boring, bland rock music you can find anywhere on the planet); the fact that one of the wait staff called me a "young lady" on our way out of the restaurant (I have grey hair; I considered it an insult and condescending and ageist, as I am NOT a "young lady" and no, that was not flattering nor welcomed by me); and the fact that the paper towel dispensers in the restroom did not work properly--if I have to wave my hand in front of the device multiple times and it still does not dispense a piece of paper for drying my hands, it probably needs to be checked. My mother-in-law and I went for brunch and really enjoyed the meals we had. She got the Shrimp and Grits and really liked it although it was a bit spicy for her liking. I enjoyed the Lobster and Brie Omelet which was really good. I also had a side crab cake which was a bit too mustardy for me. The side of maple and apple chiicken sausage I had was ok. I prefer the chicken apple sausages at First Watch. The coffee was great. The only issue there was that the refill was cold initially but the manager came by and gave us a fresh refill so that was nice. Wow, just wow! What a great addition to the South Tampa area! I have to first say a big thanks for being open right after the hurricane when a lot of the area had no power and they were able to feed hungry people. They even did this being short-staffed, since some people were still evacuated. We really appreciated this! Everything on the menu sounded delicious which makes it hard to decide. We tried the Hey Lucy omelette, the pancakes, and classic biscuit & gravy. The beignets to start off was a nice little sweet treat. The omelette included avocado, breakfast chorizo, onions, green chilies with cheddar jack. It also comes with sour cream and salsa. The taste was delicious. I had the city grits as the side. Seriously, this is a must try if you like grits. The pancake was just right according to my niece. I totally agree. We went to the Dale Mabry location for takeout. I waited ten minutes (so I thought) before anyone said anything to me. After waiting ten minutes I was told I have to make our to-go orders at the bar. I waited another ten to fifteen minutes (so I thought) before anyone came back to the bar to take my order. I placed the two orders and waited. When I got back to the car my friend said what took so long. I said I had to wait 10 minutes before someone told me where to place the order and another ten minutes before anyone took my order. He said but you've been gone an hour and fifteen minutes. We get back to the room and the order wasn't correct. I decided not to go back because at this point I'm no longer hungry. Sent my husband, he didn't notice that he didn't even have my double espresso. So I sent him back. I told him to get money back. They made another order but we chose not to take it. Think we each ended up getting an egg dish and a sweet pancake on the side so we could have a taste of everything and we all loved the food. Huge portions too. We tried the verde Bloody Mary, it is good but be prepared because it's not what you probably expect. I had a pretty bad experience here today. To start, the service was ridiculously slow and terrible. We had to ask other waitresses or hosts for what we needed the entire meal. My food also sucked pretty bad. I had an omelet with veggies and cheese and they forgot the cheese and brought like a super cold and dry omelet that was mainly just the eggs, so I sent it back and it took close to 25 minutes for another one to be brought out. My bagel was also super burnt. We had no silverware and had to ask a host for that. We were not offered refills and had to ask another server for that. The waitress came back literally once and it was just because another server went to go get her, so I could send my food back. We even had to ask someone else to bring our check. Once you're seated you'll notice an average blah menu with extremely high prices and you'll experience average service. I will not be returning even though they are literally 3 minutes away from my house. I've been spoiled in South Tampa with delicious breakfast/brunch spots like Pinky's, Piquant, Tahitian Inn, and Datz so unfortunately Another Broken Egg Cafe will need to up their ante to survive here. read more
