This was our third time here. Darnell is our favorite server. He's not only sweet, kind and super smart by remembering our entire order-he recommends the best wines and specials for the day. Walking in and being recognized by him means he knows his job well!! Tonight we both had the Caesar salad for the first time, a little bit more on the lemon side than Caesar. We also both had a fish dish and both were absolutely delicious. And the wine, HONIQ, I will be looking for it on the shelves. A go to must too. #charlestonfoodandwine #charlestonfoodie #ansonrestaurant

Nice dinner but to be really top notch, can do a little more. Really enjoyed the roasted oysters. The she crab was good and the spicy pasta with shrimp was really tasty but expected a slightly bigger portion for the price. Enjoyed the Ken Wright pinot noir, but as a really nitpicky thing, expect a red wine to be served in a bigger glass.

Had a few drinks at the bar with a very friendly bar staff. Dinner upstairs was relaxing and service was great. Started with the "lobster escargot" which was very good. All of us at the table had the scallop special and a side of the street corn. Amazing food. Thanks for making final night in Charleston a good one. Will be back.

Almond basket with fresh berries and ice cream

It has been a while since we dined at Anson, but we were craving the Crispy Flounder with Apricot shallot sauce, and the only other good option is driving 2 hours to Savannah. The restaurant is beautiful with its dark wood and old pictures, most of which paying tribute to horses. The service was spot on. Nothing really stood out to us for appetizers, so we went in a different direction and decided to split the Lobster Buccatini main dish to start a dinner. This was a great pick as we loved the fresh noodles were fantastic in the White wine, and garlic, shallot reduction garnished with the grape tomatoes, We both ordered the Crispy Founder as I indicated that we were BOTH craving it. WOW, WOW, WOW, this is so much better than either of us remembered. I think it was the heat from the peppers that contrasted so well with the sweetness from the apricot sauce that made this dish so much better than before. For dessert the wife ordered and enjoyed the Pecan pie ala mode, I really loved the Almond basket. As the name suggests, the basket is made from crushed Almonds, likely hardened with sugar and melted butter. The basket was filled with fresh berries, ice cream, and a couple of sprigs of fresh mint. Yum!!!! We will NOT wait so long to go back the next time

Five Star rating brought to you by the restaurant's location, service and main dishes. It is also a gorgeous setting. Staff was both friendly and professional, very old school southern charm. The restaurant is right next to Charleston Market. And my shrimp pasta dish was scrumptious. Some things that weren't my favorite include the small dish size for the price and I did not enjoy the snow crab appetizer. While the specialty Margarita was $22 it was good pour. Overall, the ambiance, main dish, and professional southern service make this a recommendation and a would go to again!

    Amazingly good

The BEST food we ate all week!!! It is amazing. The fish was incredible, the drinks amazing, the atmosphere terrific, the dessert made us tempted to lick the plate. Would go back again and again. Service had charm. Gluten free items marked on menu. We loved it and it was gluten free. Crab legs- yummy Gf dessert- yummy Fish- amazing we ordered the halibut and the grouper

Great atmosphere, good service and the food is amazing. We had the Tomahawk pork chops and the royal red shrimp appetizer, both were very tasty. It's located next to the Old Town carriage tours so you can roll right out of the restaurant and scratch the horses' noses. Recommend highly.

An excellent dinner with expert polished service: beet and burrata salad with pistachio vinaigrette to start, halibut and filet mignon for entrees, and hazelnut cake with a Sauternes dessert wine to finish. The meal was well paced, service was prompt and unobtrusive, and the upstairs dining room has old time ambiance with moody low country marsh murals and crystal chandeliers. Wines by the glass were very good and the rum punch was attractively presented.

As a Charleston native who's been living in Texas for the past several years, it had been quite some time since I've eaten at Anson (about 10 years or so give or take) During one of my frequent (but unplanned) trips back to the Lowcountry my sister made a last minute dinner reservations for us and Anson was one of the few available to accommodate so I was excited to give this old Charleston standard a visit with an older and more appreciative palate. The host at the front and hostess were all incredibly friendly as well all of the wait staff, unfortunately though I don't see myself returning for probably another 10 years based on the quality of the meal. For starters our table went with the tuna and fried green tomatoes and for my entree I went with the filet with a cup of the she crab soup on the side. The pros: -the tuna appetizer was very interesting and had an interesting contrast of flavors that I really enjoyed. This wasn't a dish I would have ordered myself so I was glad the table did -my sister had the brussel sprouts as a side and she said they were her favorite item from the menu that she tasted that night The meh: -The fried green tomatoes were fine. In a city renown for its southern cuisine though, you can find better. These just didn't have any love in 'em. --one member of my table ordered the lobster pasta...he said it was "just ok" but he was too hungry not to eat it. The bad: -Again, in a city renown for its southern cuisine no restaurant should be screwing up one of the state's homegrown food items - she crab soup. I've enjoyed the South Carolinian dish all throughout the state and can firmly say Anson has the title for my least favorite. I had 2 spoonfuls and pushed it to the side. I think sherry must be the #1 ingredient in Anson's recipe as it was all I could taste -I ordered my filet medium with black truffle butter but what I received was more medium well marching its way to well done. As soon as it was brought to the staff's attention they were very prompt in remedying the issue, however, by the time the freshly prepared steak was brought back to me the rest of my table was almost finished dining. I did try a few bites and it was cooked to perfection the second time around HOWEVER the truffle butter was missing as well as the accompanying parmesan tomato. I had to request they be brought back and when they were the butter was ice cold. -My sister ordered the salmon and she said it was extremely fishy. She only ate about half the dish before giving up on it. When the final bill came they had taken the she crab soup off of the bill On a final note - I also didn't get what ambience they were trying to go for in there. Casual southern elegance? Sports bar? The giant tv over the bar playing a game was giving off mixed vibes with the rest of the space. TLDR - Charleston (yet alone the Market area) has too many phenomenal restaurants to waste your appetite or money on Anson.

Anson is a Charleston establishment I shockingly had never been to. All around I had a good experience. Service was friendly and the food was tasty. Started out with the fried green tomato appetizer that had delicious chunks of bacon with it. Ordered the NY strip with bone marrow butter and street corn as the side. Steak was perfectly cooked. Finally ended with the fruit basket for dessert. Loved the crunchy shell!

Very special. She-crab soup was phenomenal. Creamy, sweet yet savory and rich but light. Fried oysters were great too. Shrimp and grits. Phenomenal. A little smokey which was nice. Scallops were cooked perfectly. Risotto bed they was perfect. The tomatoes stole the show here. Special date night atmosphere inside. Friendly staff. Overall excellent.

If you're getting food, definitely try the blistered green beans, poutine, and the farmer's salad (which is like a Cobb salad/bowl, it's amazing) *but* my all-time fave is the fried chicken sandwich - it's honestly one of the best l've ever had in Charleston. Also, this place is huge so they were able to accommodate my friend's post-wedding party (about 20 people) at the last minute and we had a blast. Everywhere else we tried to go either didn't have the space for us or were closing so it totally made our night! We just made sure to call ahead to check and they were more than happy to have us - the bride was happy so you know it was good :) Bottom line, the Peacock is a local gem hidden in plain sight on East Bay and, as a local, it's become one of my top go-to's in Charleston. You can't beat the prices (seriously), ambience, quality, and awesome staff. They also have live music every week so they know how to keep it classy and lively at the same time. The food at the surrounding tables looked equally incredible; I'd especially recommend the cheese plate and the tuna. As a bonus, there's a nightclub on the second floor that gets lively on weekends, so the fun doesn't have to stop after dinner. Our bartender was incredibly sweet and helpful when it came to choosing what to order and made us feel welcome from the start. There was also live music that night, which my husband was especially excited about since they were playing 80s covers. The menu focuses on Lowcountry cuisine, and everything we ordered was delicious. We started with the clams and then shared the pork chop and BBQ tuna. Every dish was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The cocktails were smooth, well made, and paired perfectly with the meal. To make the evening even more special, our bartender brought us two glasses of bubbles to celebrate my birthday, which was such a thoughtful gesture. My wife has a fish allergy and they offered to prepare a vegetable plate for her. They prepared three vegetable dishes, which were all excellent. He recommended the boulliabase which was phenomenal. I honestly did not think that the blue crab ravioli was anything special. In fact I could have skipped that dish and had been fine and would've had more room to finish the shrimp in the boulliabase. Desserts were outstanding. Chocolate budin (pudding) was delicious. Rice pudding was also quite nice with the fresh strawberries. The place itself was nice. Dark lighting. Service throughout the night was excellent--attentive, friendly, and professional without being overbearing. The food was stellar--easily some of the best I've ever had. One of those meals where every dish hits, and a few truly stand out. Cocktails overall were outstanding, but there was one hiccup worth noting. There's a "regular" Old Fashioned and options to "elevate," which significantly increases the price. My wife had difficulty reading the menu and relied on the server, who suggested the upgrade without clearly explaining the cost. She ended up with a $45 Old Fashioned that was noticeably smaller than my standard one--and honestly not as good. We mentioned it, but didn't get much beyond a polite acknowledgment. That said, it didn't take away from what was otherwise a fantastic night. Still an easy 5 stars--honestly, it deserves 6. Great service, exceptional food, strong accessibility, and a beautiful space.
