I belong to a local professional group that has meetings here. About 25 people ordered meals off the menu at the same time. They have an extensive menu that features Italian and Greek dishes. I ordered the Moussaka. I received a Greek salad as an appetizer. The Moussaka came with rice. The salad was fine; it had lettuce, tomatoes, olives, and feta cheese. The Moussaka was decent but it was barely warm. I like hot foods to be reasonably hot. The service was excellent. The staff served drinks before the meal. Attendees were separately billed. The staff was efficient in preparing checks and processing payments. Some of the other dishes looked good particularly, sandwiches and Italian pastas. We have loved Anthony's for more years than we care to remember, and were curious - and hopeful - that under the new owners the level of service and quality of the food would be up to the standards set by Faye and Anthony, the prior owners. We were pleased to see a few upgrades in the ambiance: soft music piped in, some new greenery and new tableware, and the service remained the same as always. The food was also generally the same high quality: my chef salad was huge and delicious, with leftovers for another meal, but my husband was a little disappointed in his steak sub since he felt it was a bit heavily salted. Bottom line is based on just one visit, we remain hopeful that Anthony's will remain our go-to restaurant for a casual lunch or dinner. We plan to return. read more

We went there first week of September and the food was very very soggy and greasy and no taste. Reported to the manager he was very very rude and did not seem to even know what the food ingredients were. He did nothing to help us or to make up for the lousy food, no apology no nothing, just a very very rude bad attitude. A true neighborhood gem that has been a constant in NoVA for 40 years now. Family-owned and operated, I've been going to Anthony's since I was in high school and it's so cool to still see--20 years since then--the family actively running things to this day. The menu is huge, prices are more than reasonable, and the portions are generous--Papa Anthony wouldn't have it any other way. It's honestly surprising how there are no items to avoid with a menu so expansive. Feel like Italian? The pastas are sublime. Traditional Greek? A disappointing experience tonight.. My wife ordered soup but found a piece of metal in it. It was difficult to flag down the waiter and we had to suggest that the soup be removed from the bill No one from management came over to speak with us. We moved into the Sleepy Hollow neighborhood recently and saw Anthony's was a local pizza/Mediterranean spot. They have another location in Vienna that had great reviews so we gave it a try. We've ordered numerous pizzas to go and also the gyro sandwich. The pizza is good quality and better than the standard chains. The gyro was fresh and tasty, as well as a fairly good size for the price. My parents took our kids there and they had an enjoyable time as they said it is a very family friendly spot. Glad to have a non chain pizza place to support since my son is a big pizza fan. We are returning customers and would definitely recommend Anthony's to anyone in the mood for Italian or Greek! read more

Checked out Anthony's based off a recommendation from a friend. The atmosphere and seating is like an upscale diner with TVs at the bar area and tables/booths everywhere else. The menu primarily consists of Greek and Italian dishes, so you can see where their specialties lie. The food was decent but a bit pricey. When the dishes came out I realized why it costs so much- the serving sizes are huge! If visiting for the first time, I recommend splitting the dish or expecting a doggy bag. We knew the meal experience would not be so good when our server didn't know the soup of the day or menu. I wish the food tasted as good as it looked and as par as the appetizer. The mozzarella sticks was the best part of the meal. I had the pork souvlaki with side salad and tzatziki. The souvlaki was supposed to have a sauce but they forgot thankfully I got the tzatziki. The entire meal needed a little more salt and spices. The sauce, more garlic and mint. The kid's spaghetti could use a little more salt and Parmesan cheese on top, at least to be offered. The chicken tenders looked too yellow. Perhaps the reason for the lack of salt and spices is the high age bracket patrons. I do not have problems with seniors since our great-grandmother wanted to come here since she had a great experience last time. However, she didn't fully enjoyed her meal as well due to lack of seasoning. I would just suggest to add more flavour to the meal and not tone it too much down. Overall, it wasn't too bad. They have been in the restaurant business for years and I am confident they will address every issue on this complaint list of evil doers- who go to a new restaurant too soon just so they have something to complain about :( boo on you guys. I thought I was going to die when they closed their old location, I had been going there since I was a kid, 30 years!! When they re-opened in their new location. I waited about 4 weeks to go, so they could get their act together. I have eaten there 6 times already. Their pizza is homemade dough and delicious not overly greasy. News flash people, all pizza is a little greasy, even in New York and Chicago, don't like grease, don't eat pizza!!!! I have ordered their small Greek salad twice and HEY YOU, lady who said ingredients were sparse. I ordered the small plenty for one person and it was chock full of fresh ingredients, I was shocked at how packed that salad was and the Feta was yummmmmdilyicious!!!! This place has some staffing issue but every time I go in, it gets better and better and they owner has been there every time I have gone in. If I had an issue I would take it up with them before TOOTING!! my negative horn on a public ratings site. In the old days we had an issue we went to the owner or manager, now a days you jump online. Hubby and I visited Anthony's again recently, meeting some friends including their little guy. The staff was friendly and attentive. I am happy to report that this time the pizza was cooked through. Hubby had a cheese steak sandwich and seemed to enjoy it, the only thing left on his plate was the tomato slice. One friend got the grape leave dinner, it was different than she expected, a warm dish. She said it was OK just not what she was expecting. I am not sure I would venture that way. Her hubby got the french dip sandwich which he seemed to enjoy, at least that is my assessment based on his cleared plate. I tried the tzatziki which came with pita and olives. I ordered a dessert and made a visual appeal mistake ordering the chocolate frog because it was cute, I should have tried one of their home made desserts. The frog was cute but dry. I will pick a house dessert next time. Just a note: the menu is large and over whelming especially when you are meeting folks you have not seem for a while and you are more focused on catching up. They have a few large round booth seats in their nice open dining area and provide coloring materials for kids. First time at Anthony's tonight. I usually go to restaurants that I've never been before and try them out. The presentation of the Cesar Salad was awesome and delicious. It's taken a while for me to make it to Anthony's new (well, I guess it's not THAT new anymore) location, but I'm so glad that I did! I was a big fan of their original, longstanding Falls Church City location, but this spot is huge, spacious, and the food and service is just as good as I remember. As others have mentioned, their menu is a mix of Italian and Greek dishes (like you find often around here) -- I shared the lasagna and the fettuccine carbonara with a friend, and both pastas were great. We also got the calamari to start, and it was super tasty! The dipping sauce wasn't our fave (it was like an asian chili sauce vs. a tartar or marinara) but we asked for some marinara on the side and our waitress hastily complied. Our pastas came with salads which were kind of sad (lots of iceberg), but they're included so it was fine. I'd definitely return -- seems like this would be a really great option for large parties and for family groups. read more

Where do I begin to rave about the amazing Service, Food and Ambiance we experienced at Anthony's Restaurant for my Mother's 80th Birthday!! Anthony's has been a Family tradition for over 50 years. We always enjoyed seeing Faye and Anthony when we were at the restaurant celebrating many Birthdays or just having a great meal, served by a wonderful staff!!! When I went into the restaurant, several weeks ago and reserved space for my Mom's Birthday, I was sad to hear that Faye and Anthony sold the restaurant for a well deserved retirement. However, I had the pleasure of meeting the new owners Elena and Peter Fotopoulos and reserved the room and planned for the party. Please let me say, they did not disappoint!! They took my reservation, helped me with the menu choices and set me up for a party of 36 people. When I arrived everything we discussed about the set up was addressed. The staff was amazing and they catered to our every need. I was concerned that they were not going to be able to serve 36 people without significant delay. To my surprise they came through and exceeded all my expectations to ensure my Mother had a wonderful 80th Birthday. Peter went above and beyond to ensure the event was extra special. The food was amazing as usual with many of the original menu items! The baked spaghetti was fabulaous!! And the bread to die for!!! I am pleased to say that me and our entire family will continue to make Anthony's our go to Restaurant for major celebrations and a really welcoming dinner evening out. The Steak & Cheese sandwiches here are very good (not to be confused with a Philly Cheesesteak, which usually has steak and cheese and onions, but no lettuce or tomatoes or mayonnaise). The cannoli here are great as well. The staff are nice, and the paintings and decor are nice, as well as the interior of the building itself. I do think, though, that they could do a lot better in offering a much better soda selection (including organic soda options, more Italian sodas, and more of a craft beer selection). There were also no electrical outlets at the booth where I was sitting or the ones near me. Other than that, all else seemed pretty good to me. read more

I hate to do this--give it a 2 star rating, but it is what it deserves. I know--a lot of people have given it higher ratings, not to mention that it is a family restaurant with a long tradition in the Falls Church area and has moved to nearby Annandale from in its original location along Broad street. It took me 13 years to try this place despite dropping off my then middle school aged kids to their fund raisers. I finally said why not. Well, maybe not. The place is clean and has the homey atmosphere that fits the restaurant's image. Servers are attentive and thank God, not chatty but still very welcoming. Restrooms look great and are well maintained. But the food is pedestrian! I suppose it hasn't changed a bit from what they served loooong before. Make no mistake, at the price they offer for their pastas, it is value for money in terms of quantity, sadly not quality. It's not that it tastes bad, it's just that their food aptly fits the description of "Honey, I don't want to cook dinner tonight so let's head on to Anthony's" then quickly moves on to "on a good night, I can cook better than this." The place seriously needs a reboot. Bring in a chef consultant, put more zing in the flavor, definitely improve the plating and presentation, and possibly offer two serving sizes. When I looked around, I immediately noticed two not so encouraging things: 1. Only old people, mostly couples eat here (hey, I'm old too). There is nothing to attract another segment of the market. 2. All pasta dishes looked the same. Huge oblong dish, pasta at the bottom, sauce slobbered all over. Well, if you like it this way, then you found your happy place. Sucks for me, I have to find a way to improve on leftovers I brought home. Case in point--Chicken Cacciatore. I thought there would be a piece or two of chicken on the side and spaghetti on the other side. Instead, I get a bed of pasta, and sauce with over generous amounts of red and green pepper on it totally dominating the top. Wifey ordered the French Dip sandwich. Not bad, and big serving. But it has no distinct character that makes you want to come back for because they do it better here. Also, the side of chips out of a bag doesn't help. I get it, this may be a favorite for a lot of people. But it seriously needs to assess its menu and give it a fresh make-over. Offer two sizes. Plate much better (watch Master Chef at least). Make each pasta dish first a visual Instagramable treat then as a culinary wow. Right now the food is ordinary and sorry, not really inclined to return. I get better options and flavor from Noodles and Company! Trying to help here even if I sound nasty to try and keep a tradition going. read more

Great for family's and larger parties too. They were very patient when we dropped by last week with our two little ones for dinner. Treated like family by the entire staff and most of the patrons. We have been wanting to try this place for a while, and ordered the spaghetti with sausage and lasagna plate for dinner to pick-up Sunday night. From the name and menu I was expecting somewhat authentic or homecooked Italian food- unfortunately I think this is some of the worst "Italian" food I've ever had. Spaghetti was completely overcooked, with soft, mushy noodles. Sauce was flavorless with zero spices. I think I've had better Italian sausage from Safeway frozen foods- it was similarly flavorless and had a bad consistency, as if it had been thawed and then reheated. The lasagna was basically a soup platter of overcooked noodles that fell apart when cut. Everything tasted like it came out of a can. I feel bad giving this place a negative review, as it seems to be a family establishment and local business that has been around for a while. Frankly, I am puzzled at the mostly positive reviews, but I do see that a lot of them are for the Greek food offerings. I'd be willing to give them another try for some Greek food, but would steer clear of the "Italian" parts of the menu. read more

3.5 stars I stopped in for breakfast and ordered a breakfast sandwich. -1 for not having cheddar cheese. Cheddar is just so much better than American cheese in my opinion. I ordered fruit instead of the breakfast potatoes. The green tea with honey completed the meal. I certainly recommend this place for breakfast. I haven't tried them for lunch or dinner. The server was nice and helpful, and I appreciate them offering healthier options. The booth was clean and the restaurant looked up to date. Not a grimy diner by any means. The place serves a purpose in the neighborhood as it is immaculately clean and the service is "eager" to please yet some would say I don't need a friend but another glass of water would be great.
