Still an absolutely fantastic restaurant, one of my family's favorites! The food was delicious- we do get the pizzas light on the cheese and extra crispy though. The bread it comes with on the side is ridiculously good. I mean so crusty and crispy and flaky and soft, its absurdly satisfying. I love that they served the beer in a frosted glass, it was something I haven't seen in a restaurant in a long time, granted I haven't eaten at many restaurants lately... Special shout out to our waiter Edgar, who was one of the nicest waiters I've had anywhere. He was kind, attentive, patient with us despite having to wrangle a small child, friendly to all the customers, he was absolutely top notch! Ambiance and service are both like old Italy. Not that I've been to Italy, but I've studied it and heard plenty of stories from travelers. Right as you walk in, a man is preparing handmade pizza and flipping the dough up in the air (hence the fun sign). They start you out with bread and butter. Oil and balsamic vinegar are available on request to dip your bread. The bread is warm and flaky. Very good. We got calamari for our appetizer. It is served with warm delicious marinara sauce and fried well. It was good, but needed a hint more seasoning. We ordered the chicken fettuccine alfredo and lasagna to share. The lasagna is wonderful. Arrives at the table still bubbling. The meat and sauce are spot on and perfect! The chicken fettuccine alfredo was very good noodle and sauce wise, but the chicken itself was a little dry and had very little seasoning. The sauce helped a lot to make it tastier. $65.79 (before tip) for our meal (no alcohol). It was a very good night and I'm happy we settled on this restaurant. I hate to only give 4 stars, but my reviews are always very honest. It might have been an off night, which I understand happens. I would definitely recommend this establishment and will be back to try other dishes. The pizzas looked fantastic. Maybe we will try that next. Arrive early, especially on the weekend. I've been going to this place for quite sometime. We took out dinner for 7 of us the other night and it was really great. All the dishes, (we shared quite a few entrees: linguini with clams, shrimp aregeneta, shrimp parmesan and eggplant parmesan) were very tasty and freshly prepared. Tartufata pizza - (5/5) Darn good pizza crust with large slices of mushroom. Not an overwhelming truffle flavor. Shrimp Areganati - (5/5) I'm not a huge breadcrumb fan but the flavor was great. The sauce this came with was delicious. The side of linguine was cooked perfectly al dente. Mmmm the pasta! Tiramisu - (5/5) Big tiramisu fan here. This is some of the best in Houston. Definitely the best Italian food I've ever had. I've been eating here for over forty years now and find the food at any other Italian eatery seriously lacking. Consistently excellent traditional Italian dishes -- my favorites include the cannelloni, spaghetti marinara, and their incredible pizza. And a great glass of iced tea -- definitely appreciated by this Texas girl! My husband loves the calzones, fettuccini Alfredo, and chicken Marsala . Service is always excellent. read more

I lived in the area way back in the 70's and remembered this place. We were in town for an event, and for dinner my wife and I went there. The outside sign was the same as it had been for years. The food was very good also, so this was a very nice surprise. I had never read the story about the original owner and it is very nice. The waiter said that he is now in his 80's and is often in the restaurant and greets people now... we did not see him but the staff was as good as I remember. read more

Best traditional Italian in Houston. I'm from the east coast and used to great Italian food. Antonio's in my opinion is the best Italian in Houston. Known for their pizza, Antonio's should be known for their traditional Italian dishes like Eggplant Parm, Chicken Parm, Spaghetti & Meatballs, etc. Everything made from scratch, their tomato sauce begins as a box of fresh tomatoes. So we decided to go in and try the place & they sure made me a new fan. Im hooked,, on Antonio's we actually had two waiters waiting on us :) we had a gentleman that's been there for a little while (you can see it in his presentation) and the second was in training. Great place for pizza! It was a fun restaurant with plenty of seating, good service, fantastic pizza, and the best iced tea I've had in Houston. I noticed the wonderful smell before I even entered the restaurant. The aroma reminded me of my favorite Italian restaurants in New Orleans. As we entered the restaurant, giant stainless pizza ovens were visible. There were tables and booths available. We were seated at a booth near the most annoying woman in Houston. We had the traditional crust, which was very good. It wasn't super crispy thin, but more what I think of with New York Style pizza. The toppings were fresh and weren't too heavy or skant. I was really pleased with the pizza. We also had the eggplant parmesan. Honestly, if I hadn't ordered this, I might have given Antonio's 5 stars. It was mushy and terrible. Where to start? Well, the pepperoni pizza is everything an Italian pizza should be. It reminds me of those small Italian bakeries from my youth. I always add a pepperoni pizza to the order and i am very thankful when it hits the table. I am sure that not everyone will agree, but everyone needs to give this a try just to experience what traditional Italian pizza is prior to the corporate chains that were shaped by profit. The menu has great options for apps and some excellent choices for the meal. The Alfredo sauce is very nice and makes it challenging to try other meals. Lasagna is another favorite for me, but there are plenty of other choices that I intend to work my way through. Wines and deserts are great as well. Good luck saving room for desert though. We've been driving by this place for years and finally stopped in! Very glad we did....one of the best pies I've had in Houston. Husband had the campagnelle (?) and I had a margherita. Perfect crust and nice spread of ingredients. Started with the best platter of fried calamari (right amount of breading. Light fry. Nicely seasoned with out losing calamari flavor. Meat is tender). Finished with tiramisu and cannolis. Already planning the next trip! Our waiter, Frank, was super courteous and attentive. I know that some of the reviews say that the service could use some work, but we really lucked out with a really nice guy and he really made our first visit the best. Covid notes: we came by late lunch on a Wednesday and it was not packed. Tables spread and good social distance apart. Tables were wiped down before during and after our meal. I've been eating at Antonio's for over 50 years and I believe that they have the best authentic Italian food in the country. Highly recommended if you want some great Italian food. My favorite is the meatballs and meat sauce with angel hair pasta. Always have my garlic bread with it. Pizza is excellent too. Red wine is great too. I never pass the chocolate cake. The family owned restaurant is the only place that I will eat at. There's no comparison to the quality of food at Antoine's restaurant to others, they are the best. I'm going there to tomorrow for lunch. The only thing I regret is they are not open Sundays and Mondays. Tuesday thru Saturday 11 am to 9 pm . My wife, daughter, granddaughter and myself and friends all love this place. I'm thinking about having my retirement party here very soon. Wow, this was the best pizza I've had since I've been here! Definitely would recommend coming here if you are an all time pizza fanatic! We came here for lunch (11-12pm) and went ahead and ordered a plain cheese pizza, getting the 14" (not on the lunch special) and some cokes. Price wasn't too bad ($22) and the wait wasn't long at all (no crowd). The toppings are pricey but you'll be fine w/a plain cheese pizza and the 14" can be split between two people...or one person. lol read more

I also would like to extend my generosity to our waiter victor who was also very informing and made great recommendations. This will continue to be a visited place. The fried calamari was tender and moist, served with a bright-tasting marinara that tasted like it was house made. My wife had the margherita pizza with fresh bufalo mozzarella, I had the campagnola pie (sausage, ricotta). Both pies were fabulous, and worth a return trip on their own merit. We finished with a cannoli and tiramisu with a double espresso. Both desserts were top notch. The espresso is made with Lavaza, an Italian espresso roast. It's smooth, balanced, and not the least acrid. I had a feeling it was either Lavaza or Illy and asked. The staff were so nice as to grind a few tablespoons of beans for me to take home, enough to make a pot of coffee the next morning--so good. Antonio's has been around for ages.
