I don't know why it took me so long to try this place out. Centrally located on Rt. 9 Aoi is spotlessly clean with plenty of space inside. The hostess/server was delightful. Having never been there before It took me a minute to read through the menu. If you like sushi this is the place for you. If you don't, no problem there's plenty of great dishes here. My nephew had a beef with noodles and vegetables dish that he inhaled. It really looked good. I had a chicken soup with ramen noodles. Everything was so fresh and seasoned perfectly. We've only been once, but I 100% want to go back again! The staff and service was very good; our server was attentive and very kind. My partner got a seafood ramen which was a little lack-luster... but I've been dreaming about the pork katsu don I got there every night since then (so that's like 10 months' worth of dreams which probably says something). The takoyaki was very good too - no rubbery octopus there. It's also a very cute restaurant with fun decor. Parking is also abundant, so that's an awesome bonus. Was craving shrimp tempura and they had many options. I decided to go with the shrimp and veggie tempura dinner. It was about $24. What I got was miso soup, a box of rice, salad and the vegetables were squash, eggplant, and broccoli. I got five shrimp tempura, which looked amazing. When I started to eat them, I realized there was way too much batter on the shrimp, it was almost double the amount of most places which made me not taste the shrimp. If they batter the shrimp in the future like the vegetables, it would be perfect. I hope they look at my review and make some changes. read more

Awesome experience at Aoi on a Friday night! We stopped here upon seeing it across the street, and were seated immediately, without a reservation. It had steady business, picking up after 6pm. We also loved the decor of Japanese fishing villages. Very well set up. We ordered a pink lady roll and a miso ramen soup with 2 piece tuna sushi. The pink lady roll was out of this world amazing. It had salmon, tuna, white fish tobiko, avocado, shrimp (tempura) and spicy mayo with pink soy paper. Great mix of crunchy, soft, salty, savory and sweet. If it hadn't filled me so well I would have ordered a second! The miso ramen was also delicious. The broth had great flavor and the noodles were perfectly cooked. There were large pieces of pork, egg, bean sprouts, scallions and bok choy. Very filling!! Overall awesome Japanese place, hope to go back! read more

I went here because it had 4 stars. I was there late. After 1:00 pm. I ordered a salad, caterpillar roll and ice tea. The salad was 5 dollars and was only lettuce . The roll tasted funny like a Chinese market. But the crazy thing was I was running late and wanted a to go glass with the rest of my ice tea. I asked the new but very attentive waitress to top it off. You would think I asked for the cash register. The new waitress had to wait for the owner or head waitress if she could give me a top off. There was a issue. She brought me a glass of ice tea, not a plastic one. So now I have too much tea so I ask for another plastic glass. It was crazy. Stopped in for lunch and ordered the L Nigiri combo. The lunch special includes both miso soup and a salad. Miso soup is most likely from a instant packet. There are pieces of seaweed, small crumbs of tofu and scant slices of scallion. Overall it is a bit on the salty side. Broth is slightly thinner than usual. I've had better. Salad is comprised mainly of iceberg lettuce, with a piece of cucumber and tomato. What makes the salad a crowd pleaser is the generous dollop of ginger miso dressing. The L Nigiri consisted of 1 Salmon (Sake) maki, 2 salmon nigiri, 1 tuna nigiri, 1 white fish nigiri and one other nigiri I'm not totally sure what is was, perhaps it was chutoro. On the whole the texture on fish is ok. It isn't melt in your mouth fresh, but it has some softness. The tuna was probably the one piece that was on the stiff side. While the whitefish didn't look very high quality, it has some depth of flavor. The salmon has very soft texture, but not much flavor. Overall all the Nigiri have decent form, and don't fall apart when handling. The Maki are standard, rice seemed like it was lacking seasoning and perhaps a little too soft. I don't factor the cost vs. quantity into my rating (and this review is no exception), but I will note that the quality and quantity of food for the price point seems good compared to many other sushi establishments. Slightly better than your run of the mill, standard sushi place. I might come back here if I have a hankering for sushi. read more

Upon ordering the vegetarian set entree (came with 3 types of veggie rolls) I received a miso soup- which doesn't have fish paste and also a salad with carrot ginger dressing (loved the dressing!) Their lunch specially for sushi had a significant price increase. You can even see in the picture of the menu where it was $10 & $13 and now they charge $16 $21. I called to order but asked why the price increase was significant since I used to order from this place... the lady that picked up rudely just hang up the phone. Their lunch is ok for $10-13 but certainly not worth the $16-21 price they have. For a little more you can go to Minado less than a mile away for all you can eat sushi for slightly more and a lot more options. read more

The sashimi was decent too, sliced just right, very fresh. We also tried the tuna bomb, which comes with big balls of friend sticky rice -- way too much rice that just filled us up, not recommended. Then finally came the sushi! And this is what really knocked down some stars for them. The sushi wasn't rolled tightly. Every bite we took it was just crumbling apart. This totally affects the taste of sushi too! The texture, the texture!! It's a real shame because everything seems fresh but none of the flavors were really coming together and we realized it's probably because our sushi was falling apart :( read more

From the order that was over $150 I expect at least being fresh. But not with us - feed felt like it was cooked a day before.
