We ordered the crispy crab meat dumplings and it was an experience ! I had to literally close my eyes and just immerse myself in the flavors textures and temperatures of this dish. 100/10 so amazing ! Also got the green tea which was very earthy and delicious. Well I'm writing this as I sit in the parking lot waiting for my food. I've been waiting 2 hours since I ordered. The original online quote was for 50 minutes. I then received a call 20 minutes later that they only had once chef and they didn't have one of the options I ordered and it would be about an hour. I called approx 30 minutes ago and was told about 15 minutes. Well that didn't happen. I can't rate the food because I haven't gotten it. I'm beyond displeased with the service here. Great find. Certainly not as flashy on the outside as Samba up the street, but well worth the visit. Will be a regular occurrence for me when I am in Framingham in the future. Let me get my only complaint out of the way. It was quite chilly in the restaurant. Don't know if they need better insulation, or turn up the heat a tiny bit, but it was cold. And those who know me will know that it must have been cold if I was complaining. The two key components for me were the food and the service. Both were outstanding. Miso soup and gyoza were pretty good. But then the main part of the dinner came. I ordered Chirashi based on the recommendation of one of the people who was taking care of me. What an outstanding dish. Fish was generous, fresh, thick and so good. I like salmon, and the salmon was amazing. (The rest was good, but I like salmon sashimi). I figured I could try an order of special rolls, so I picked the ice-man maki rolls. Also excellent. The sushi chef was quite simply an artist. The service, as I mentioned, was great. Constant but not overbearing attention while I was there. Great recommendations from the staff for food and drinks (unfiltered sake, anyone?). Very friendly and knowledgeable. I'm definitely a fan. No idea how to pronounce it, but I'm one of those super repeat customers at Aoi. If my husband and I want sushi in the area, it's a no brainer. Super friendly staff and great food whether you eat in or take out. I recommend the spicy tuna roll, and the Idaho roll is a fan favorite too. You can order any of the rolls with brown rice, which is great! Make sure to check out their combos as well. There's a good amount of options there. read more

3.333333 Stars The location is more accessible from the rt 9 east, from the west you have to make U-turn. It's a medium sized dining room and it has nice natural light during the day. The lighting at night is a little too bright for me. The tables spacing is fine but a bit cramped in some spots. It is a pleasant decor simple, with murals. I feel that the sushi is the strong suit here, been in 3 times and the fish is fresh and they portions are appropriate, not too thick. Their focus seems to be on the maki and although that is not my favorite I do like their maki. The situation with the other Japanese cuisine while it's good, it's not great. The Ramen(3/5) is a disappointment, it was bland. Similarly the noodle dishes seem more like Chinese dishes and not Japanese and flat. The big standout are the Katsudon (pork cutlet rice bowl, 4/5) and the Chicken Katsu Curry(4/5). The teriyaki dishes, again have a more Chinese taste than Japanese. I like some of the cold appetizers like the Ohitashi(4/5), Hiyayakko(4/5) and the Anikimo (4/5). The hot appetizers are a mixed bag, by far the Hotate-Hokkaiyaki (3.5/5) was the best of the lot. The dish is diminished with the over use of crab stick and not enough scallop. They had the Hamachi Kama as a special (yellowtail collar bone 3.5/5) it was tasty, but it could have had the skin more crispy, and the pungent sauce was weak. The have hot and cold sake (a limited selection). Taste of food is amazing, although portion size is now a lot smaller for the same price. You can clearly see on all four corner of the container, a lot rice missing. One less person can eat now. Now we'll have to add an extra order of rice to get almost the same amount of food we used to for twice the amount of money. Hidden gem in Framingham! I finally had a chance to stop by. Went there during late lunch hours and it wasn't busy. The place is clean, well decorated and very calm with good music. I go for the lunch bento boxes. New location, huge compared to their old location, and very clean. Although the Aoi bento is a bit on the greasy side, the miso salmon portion is huge, and there is enough food almost to share! Really clean, great lunch value. read more

Had a craving for Japanese curry and our friend had been wanting to try Aoi so we went for dinner on a Sunday evening. Not a huge space and since we had two little ones, we were seated closer to the host station for more room I assume. I wasn't thrilled that we were so close to the door since it had just snowed earlier that day and was pretty cold out still. The food is good. Though I can't say if their fish is fresh since I didn't eat it. We ordered a bunch of different rolls, edamame and teriyaki noodles for the kids. And of course, I got a katsu with curry. I'll note, two servers came by when we were ordering. Sushi came first in two batches. Then edamame and noodles. No curry. So we let them know we're still waiting on a dish. This is when we realize they never put in the dish in the first place. I know this because she had to ask me again if I wanted chicken or pork. Had they apologized for the error, I would have been forgiving. But if you think it's okay to serve a guest their dish after the party is pretty much done, I think it's safe to say we didn't have good service. I ate a little and packed the rest to go. I'm willing to try this place again since it is close. But it's a simple fact that apologies and attention to guests go a long way. Especially when sushi restaurants are a plenty. Update: Came a second time but am not changing my rating. The service was better this time around but I'm guessing it's because there weren't that many people at the time. You can't go wrong at this restaurant. I have been several times and each time it has been amazing. The sushi tastes very fresh and is presented very nicely. The udon soup is absolutely delicious. I have also had beef yaki and would definitely recommend it. You can tell they put a lot of care into the restaurant. All of the servers are gracious and friendly, the dining room is meticulously clean, and the food is scrumptious. My only regret is that I don't live closer!! But maybe that's a good thing.. Aoi continually is very good sushi and also bento boxes from my experience. We often come here for lunch when we have days off and the prices are awesome for the quality! 3 roll combos for 13 dollars with salad and soup or 10 dollars for 3 rolls . You can also get from reasonably Priced bento boxes and noodles. The servers are also generally friendly, there are two ladies in particular that are always VERY nice,especially for the little ones if we bring them ( which we generally do). This is one of the few places I have been were I feel like I can get full from sushi without going broke. I would highly recommend Aoi. read more

They increased their price last year, which is understandable because of covid, but the problem is the fish portion got smaller. Their special maki doesn't look special but regular. Best Sushi in the area hands down... I'm talking about the sushi, the fish, the raw fish on rice... this is easily the best place in the Metrowest region to find it. I can't really speak to their other dishes, ramen, rice, noodles etc - but they have really good fish and I always feel like they care very much about what they serve and it shows; ...and it's been consistent week to week. I haven't tried many of the rolls but the few that I have tried were delicious. There is surprisingly a lot of Sushi in the Metrowest area, Oga's being another good one, but most (Minado, Ten-Ichi, Fugakyu, etc) are mediocre to bad. Came here the other night with my son and I've ordered way too much. Well, it's more like I've ordered 2 meals for adults and not for toddler so I ended up eating them. It has a nice ambiance, not fancy, but pretty casual and kids-friendly. We started off with Edamame and Spicy Tuna Tata. The Tuna was delicious ! It's consist of Chopped mango, seaweed, tuna with tempura flakes & a pinch of tobiko to top it off. I didn't find that it was spicy at all though. But the combination was perfect because the mango wasn't sour at all. I also ordered Pork katsu with Rice for myself and Miso ramen for my son. The Miso was very light and hearty; perfect for the cool weather we were having. At first, I thought it was bland until I gave the noodles a little toss. The pork katsu came out ; it was very crispy and I like the fact they put it on a different Plate with a seperate bowl of rice and side of the katsu sauce. I gave it a 4 stars because I've told the waiter that I wanted to-go the pork katsu because I've ate the Miso ramen instead & had a few bites of the katsu . When I got home to open the bag, I notice that he did not pack the sauce along with the rice & only packed the stripped Pork. It made no sense because it's not even a Pork Katsu anymore without its sauce, just regular crispy pork. But none the less, the food & service was great ! Will definitely come back. read more

There are no words to say how overjoyed we were when we learned that Aoi had re-opened (after the original place was bulldozed to make a parking lot for FSU! mad face ) We made it to the new place just last week, and were so relieved that it is still as awesome as the old, and if possible even better. My personal favorite is the Snow Mountain roll, but we have never had anything that wasn't amazing. This time we also tried the curry, and it was so fragrant and exquisitely delicate. If it sounds like we're in love with the place, we are. We've had Japanese food from Boston to Vegas and Aoi holds its own with the best. read more
