My girlfriend and i were craving for some soondae and bossam and came across this place next to BBQ Stop. Oh man, i'm glad my girlfriend found this place. There were few tables open with one server (it's a small place, so it's understandable that they only have one server). She seemed to be struggling as more customers walked in and filled in the tables, but she didn't lose her responsibility as a server and treated everyone nicely with care. I could say service was excellent. Not only the service was great, but the food was extraordinary. Highly disappointed in the service and the food. I ordered the gopchang chungol for to go and it came with two side dishes that looked like it was already eaten. They are extremely stingy with their ingredients and food but the price is high. It is not worth any money if the owners give food sparingly. I called in to ask if they perhaps missed some side dishes but they told me that two kimchi dishes is all. They answered extremely rudely and when I called again to tell them there was a hair in the food they wouldn't answer or they would hang up. I was looking forward to having a great dinner but instead ended up being disappointed. If you look at their most recent reviews on google everyone agrees that the owner is extremely stingy and that their food is nowhere near worth the price. Had my family dinner here yesterday. In-laws were a bit eerie as the restaurant was a bit on the small side (we were meeting to celebrate a 40th bday). I actually enjoy the smaller setting, rather than a large restaurant. Food: the seafood pizza (ha-meul-pa-jun) was AWESOME. we normally interpret this dish as Korean seafood pancake, however, they added cheese to it and legitimately can call it pizza. We also ordered soon-dae, gop-chang bok-eum (stir-fried Korean sausage and intestines), goat stew and fish and bulgogi/bean stew combo for the kids. All the dishes were good, including the side dishes. As always, the best Korean dessert is the fried rice at the end in the leftover goat stew and the stir-fried dish. Service: Both the ladies were super friendly, one of them is the daughter of the owner, who is whipping up all this delicious food. Con: If I HAVE to come up with one, it will be that the food can take a bit long. Tables were 80% full when we got there and by the time we started ordering, there was a line forming outside. We ordered a bit more than we should have and kinda felt bad for the people who ordered after us as the couple had to wait a bit for their food. If you are looking for a quick bite and you notice a bunch of tables without any food, I would recommend coming back another time when you have more time. But DO COME BACK. First of all, I'm not a soondae fan so if I eat it and find it to be acceptable, that's a REALLY good thing. My mom called me and said she was craving soondae so I yelped what was in my area and this is the only place that popped up that looked decent. I placed an order to-go and about 20 minutes later, it was ready. Brought it to my parents and they both seemed to enjoy it very much. I figured I'd might as well try for myself. Again, I'm not a soondae fan so usually I have one and I'm done. I ended up having three. All in all, I think Yelp got it right and this is probably the best soondae you can find in the Rowland Heights area. I've been looking for a place that does dalk galbi that isn't in Ktown, and this place satisfies without a doubt! The seating is limited but the service is friendly and quality is great! They don't boast a huge menu, which is what I appreciate, so they can focus on quality. The prices aren't cheap, but I feel are more than fair, especially for the quality. This is my favorite dish, and I would recommend this for anyone who is a fan of Korean food or wanting to try something different. Cold noodle was great but wished i saw their soybean cold noodle first prior to ordering! Loved their octopus bibimbap as the rice was crusty underneath and had the perfect combination of savory sweet as well. I wish they put more baby octopus on the dish tho. Also ordered their galbi which to me is the most flavorful galbi i ever had in the sense that it was not too overly sweet. Not too many pieces of fat, and the best for me was it had a sorta sour-ish fermented taste that i absolutely love that game the dish amazing flavor. The food was very mediocre. You'd like it if you like the Korean homestyle dishes. The environment and service were extremely terrible. It was really cold outside with alot of wind (think 65F) but they did not close the door so the restaurant was freezing. I would constantly be hit with a cold breeze in the face. The place was packed (about 5 full tables). One waitress seemed to be trying her best but the other one was rude and had a scowling face. She did not offer water and did not bring napkins. We had to ask for water and she brought over cups of water that was only 40% full. The water also tasted very much like tap water (salty and metallic). I'd been wanting to try soon dae and I was finally brave enough to order it. Soon dae is Korean blood sausage made by boiling or steaming cow's or pig's intestines that are stuffed with various ingredients. I eat all kind of weird things....intestine, heart, liver, fish eyeball, frog...so the concept of soon dae was very interesting to me. The soup was bland. The sausage was bland. The guts were bland. Banchans were not so good. Banchans were: seaweed sesame, salad with thousand island, napa kimchi, potato and beansprouts. The potato was bland, the seaweed was too sweet and the napa was too salty. My banchans were better than my soup though. The restroom of this place was clean and the waitress was super sweet. I was still hungry that I went to Cafe Haus to get waffle after my meal. 1 star!!! The place is actually called "Ah Bum Jib" in Korean, but they appear as "Abeom Soondae" in the Yellow Pages. Friend and I were craving soondae again. We found this place via the Korean business directory. My friend called first to confirm the address so we could pick up the food, but the girl on the phone was rude and said she didn't have time to give directions. I was kind of annoyed so I called back. I got a guy who was much more polite, and he gave me the directions. I also wanted to place my order for soondae gook (soup), but he said they only had the soondae plate. Seeing that I was almost there, I decided to check out the menu before ordering since they said they didn't have the gook. The place was bustling, but not so busy that the waitress couldn't have spared a minute to give directions. As I perused their menu... lo and behold, do my eyes deceive me?? They have soondae gook!! (Was the guy lying to me or did he just not understand what I asked?) I placed an order for soondae gook and soondae plate for togo. They said they ran out of soondae and are in the process of making more. The wait would be a bout 30mins. I said that is fine and decided to visit the Korean market down the street for a little grocery shopping (aka soju) while waiting. I went back after 30mins and ended up having to wait another 30mins more. Although hungry, I had some time on my hands so I was fine with the wait, plus I wanted FRESH soondae. After a long hour, my soondae was finally ready and when I got the package it felt exceptionally heavy. They apologized for the long wait and said they gave me extra soondae. When I opened the pack it looked like double the portion! Now that's service~ *thumbs up* I don't know why but soondae gook is different at every retaurant. There doesn't seem to be a standard like yook gae jang or duk gook. This place makes their's really red and tastes like they use a "tang" broth (the "tang" in meh eun tang or hae mul tang). The banchan is average but on the salty side. The soondae was mainly stuffed with noodles and absolutely fresh. I could tell by how it was so soft and the casing was already shrinking since it was cut while still hot. The restaurant is small with about 8 tables and the parking spaces are even smaller. It's located in a little plaza on the corner of Colima (aka Golden Springs) and Lemon. My car isn't that big but I had to search for a spot wide enough for me to open my door so I could get out. A great family business for authentic Korean food! I ordered the gamjatang (pork bone soup) and my friend ordered the bulgogi bibimbap. My soup was very good- on par with my favorite Korean places. It had a good amount of meat in it and lots of herbal flavor (perilla leaves were a great additional touch). My friend enjoyed the crispy rice in the bibimbap and it was a huge portion. The soondae was a good texture. It was not incredibly flavorful but yummy with the salt and shrimp paste. Our server was very nice, but did not refill our banchan when we were done. There's only 1 thing I order here: the soondae gook (pig blood sausage soup). Along with sliced up soondae, it also has sliced up internals and ears. Usually it's very good. They once boiled the soup too long and pulverized the soondae, but that was just a one time mistake out of many times I ate here. My only gripe is that towards the end the chili seasoning that settled on the bottom can tend to be too much. Oh and don't expect much from the banchans here. Dunno why I'm sharing this, but back few years ago, they used to give you the soondae gook all white. Was actually waiting for BBQ Stop in the same plaza but couldn't wait any longer, so decided to give this place a try, not a bad choice at all. Weren't a lot of people when we came, but it was a small place so didn't feel all that empty either. Small korean homeowned restaurant with your typical korean dishes, including soon dubu, naengmyeon and bulgogi etc. Ordered a squid noodle, goat soup and naengmyeon, and honestly that was quite a bit of food for 2 people. Would definitely recommend the squid noodle and goat soup. The squid noodle had a sweet spicy taste to it, probably from the gochujang, and the noodles they used are thin rice noodles, very good combination. They use herbs to cook the goat soup, not just your typical "add the ingredients and boil water topping it off with bean sauce" doenjang jjigae. The naengmyeon wasn't quite to my liking, for one they actually have blocks of ice in it making it harder to eat (maybe that's how it's actually done in Korea though not quite sure about that but that's not how it was served at other korean places), and plus it has a weird sour taste, now I understand naengmyeon is supposed to be sour, but this one was just a little weird, personal preferences I guess. Was about to go to Myung In Dumplings to give them a try but this caught my eye, so I convinced my wife to give this place a try. It's a rather small place, reminiscent of the small, hole in the wall eatery I'm used to seeing in rural Korea. Service is a tad slow but it's understandable, being a mom and pop shop. The menu is straight forward, you have your soups, casseroles, cooked on the table stews and such. We tried the seafood pancakes, korean sausage (aka soon-dae), and the cold soup noodle. Side dishes were phenomenal (freshly cooked) and everything we ate was just tops. Seriously, soon as we sat down more Korean and Chinese people came in to try their stews which they cooked on the table. I'm so glad we found this nice little place for our Korean dinner rotation, I'm definitely coming back to give them another try every other week. I recommend sitting outside if you have low heat tolerance because they never turn the ac on but the downside is they never come to your table if youre seated outside.
