My wife discovered an authentic Mexican Food restaurant in the city of Leander. She has been on a search for the best "Carne Asada burrito" she can find. Not just another steak burrito, but one made "Baja Style", with Ranchero meat or similar. We've found something that comes close at Aparicio's. It's not your ordinary menu choices of ground beef, pork and chicken. First of all, customers waiting in line were raving to their friends on how amazing the food is. The quality, the service and the portion sizes. Taco prices are a bit higher than your average taco stand, but this is not a "hole in the wall" dive joint. The owners have made your experience here unique in the decor, yet the food served on homemade tortillas lets you know you're being blessed in the kitchen, by someone who cares. When we arrived we told them this was our first time. The host spoke to someone, and out from the kitchen comes a sample tray with five cups of food to sample. Carne Asada, chicken, pastor, chorizo and Pableno Pepper sauce. We ordered the Cali Burritto. A Carne Asada burrito with fries, pico, and other fixings. It was huge, even after cut in half. I opted for two tacos, pastor which came with a slice of grilled pineapple and Chorizo. Both served on hand made flour tortillas and they were great. We also got an order of cheese fries. A small bowl of McDonald's size fries with shredded cheese and a light cheese sauce melted on top. It was great, paired with a homemade jalapeño ranch sauce. Finished with a fresh strawberry horchata drink in a large mason jar and a mango melon drink. 6:50 each, yet well worth the cost. So if you're looking for something other than Tex-Mex fusion Mexican food, or if you're missing tasting real authentic Mexican food without having to drive to San Antonio, then drive on over to Leander. I'm feeling a bit sad because the birria tacos don't taste as good as when I first tried them. However, I did have the chance to try the beef and pork tacos for the first time, and they were delicious. You have to try them. Their natural beverages and corn in a cup are the best! It's a concept place, and the service model takes some getting used to. We had a couple of the machete tacos. My main suggestion for the management is that the plastic ware is completely inadequate for the job, especially for the unwieldy, lightly fried tortillas of the machetes. And the napkins are not nearly robust enough to handle the chaos when the plastic ware fails. Nice agua frescas though. read more

First visit. We ordered Birrio (beef) Tacos, and a Chicken Taco. 2 Mexican Cokes, and a Horchata. The hype was accurate. What felt like a very authentic interior Mexico experience. I used to go to Guadalajara for work. They made tacos there that they would dip in a red sauce before serving. This is pretty similar with a red sauce on the side (Birria Tacos). This was just slightly different than the ones in Guadalajara, but similar, and very good. Different eating experience than typical tacos in central Texas. If you are looking for attention to detail in an interior of Mexico style taco (and the menu was primarily tacos and quesadillas), definitely worth a try. We loved everything. We were adamant to try this place as we've tried many taco places in Austin and its surrounding areas and have not been impressed with any. Coming here from Mexico, our taco expectations are very big and not all tacos are created equal. We needed some food for take-out because my wife did not feel like cooking dinner so we decided to try the birria tacos, pastor and marinated carne asada ( this last one was per Aparicio's recommendation ). They were incredible. My 16 year old son inhaled them and saved the consomé to make himself some ramen later. As for the service, it was THE BEST we've seen. We wanted to try the corn and they were out of it. Whoever took our order gave us a taco, tuétano and two of their agua frescas because of this. We will certainly be back and will make this our go-to taco place in Leander. Sorry we have no good food pics, we devoured them. read more

Aparicios is dangerously close to me and I could not be happier! We originally went to Aparicios when it first opened and we were just ok with it... I went on a whim today and OH my lanta was I sooooo pleased. I spoke to Victor at the counter and placed my order. He kindly offered me an agua "on the house". Couldn't say no to a free agua fresca. I ordered the Dragon fruit pineapple agua. I also didn't realize that they sold Birria here. Apparently it was put on the menu temporarily and it was such a hit that they kept it on the menu. I briefly asked about the birria and decided to go with my usual pastor quesadilla. While I waited on my order (to-go), Victor HOOKED IT UP. I was waiting and he walked over with a WHOLE birria taco, consume, AND salsa. This taco was also on the house. I was so surprised and truly so thankful for his kindness. The birria here was beyond amazing. It had some spice to it so beware, not sure if this is how they regularly prepare it. It was just right for me but I know my partner (who doesn't handle spice well) would likely struggle with the spice. Anyway back to the birria... SUPER flavorful and juicy. I am so glad that I have this as an option now. I left with my regular order and brought it home. Just as good as usual. This place is a hidden gem. We were greeted at the front counter, where you order. The host asked if it was our first time there (it was). Because of this, he immediately got us samples of their meat options to try. The space is small and the decor offers a few Instagram worthy photo ops; overall it's not why your there and doesn't totally convey the awesome experience you're going to have. The hospitality alone would make me go back, but the food is the real star. Everything is seasoned and grilled to perfection. The portion sizes are huge - make sure you're hungry when you go. We were very pleasantly surprised by the fresh corn used for the Hot Cheeto elote we ordered - by far the best we've had in the Austin area. When Aparicio's is good it's really good but... We have visited here several times and our experience has been excellent for the most part. On one visit our food was just awful with dried meat that must have been sitting under a heat lamp most of the day and tortillas that were falling apart. Friends convinced us to give them another shot and I'm happy to report all is well in Tacoville. Aparricio's is authentic Mexican fare. The carnivore and pastor tacos are some of the best I've ever had north of the Rio Grande. You can order combos, jumbos, or even traditionally sized-tacos. They do provide a number of sauces to spice up your dish. If you have the Jones' for quesadillas that have several options for you. They do offer freshers and my favorite Mexican Coka! First and foremost, YUM! My friends and I stopped by here for a quick dinner as most other places were already closed. And while the reviews and pictures looked good, we weren't expecting too much. But we were pleasantly surprised! They have so many different unique drink options, it was so hard to pick what to drink. We ended up getting the dragonfruit mangonada, and with the server's recommendation, the strawberry horchata. (also the server was so sweet). But I could see why the strawberry horchata was a favorite, it was so delicious! The meat inside the tacos was so tender and flavorful. And the quesadilla portions were huge (I think you get like 5 triangles). We also tried the original elote bowl and it was so creamy and salty and so worth it. One note is that they do run out of some meats later in the day, so make sure you go earlier if you want all of your choices. I've attempted to go to Aparicio's 3 times in the last week. The last time was 5:30pm on Saturday 9/9/23. They have the hours of operation posted on the door but the door was locked and no personnel were visible inside. While I was at the door another couple pulled up. They stated they were there on Friday 9/8/23 and again the business was closed. Looks to me like they probably closing down like the last restaurant that was in the same location If they are not going to be open they should update their website and post a big sign on the door so potential customers don't waste our time. read more

I was super excited to try this place. I always share their FB post to support local businesses. I was very disappointed. I'm giving 3* due to cost of food. They do not post their prices $$$ which are high. $34.00 with tip for 1 Machete grande taco and 1 lime aid is outrageous. The Machete taco is $21.00 which is really more like a quesadilla with meat on the front side so it looks fuller. It will feed 2 people if you have a normal appetite. The refreshing drinks look cool but are 99% ice with watered down flavoring for $6.50 total rip off...save your money. I do like they give you samples of the different meats to taste when you order. I really wasn't that impressed with the quality or the flavor. I would say birria had the best taste of the meats we tried. It has a great atmosphere, and a hidden restroom...great vibes. All in all the experience was interesting, its going for a goth, edgy, voodoo sort of vibe, but it is paired with loud music, annoying sounds, cheap products, cheesy food, and no service. I can see this restaurant having a lot of potential, but it has some room for improvements. A few things I think the owners can improve here: 1) Get Silverware. Get Napkin Dispensers on the table. Have you actually used the utensils you hand out? The napkin inside is the smallest ply napkin I have ever used in my life. Also the single pull napkin dispenser by the pick up window is really annoying. The food is hot and ready and I got to get up to grab napkins up there is lame. 2) Get some more sound speakers for the music. Don't get me wrong, the music selection is great, but its just too loud for a dining experience. If you get several speakers placed in the corners of the restaurant and put the volume on low, it has a nice ambiance to the restaurant. Remember 4 speakers on low is better than 2 speakers on high. 3) Get rid of those beepers! When I ate there, every 5 minutes I had to hear someones beeper go off. Even when I already returned mine and got my food, I still had to hear everybody elses beeper in the restaurant for the entire duration I was there. Just call out a number for the patron to come get it, or give the patrons a number on the table for the staff to come deliver the food. The beepers were not able to be muted unless I brought it up, gave it to the staff, and then they stuck it onto another beeper. That was really annoying. 4) I asked for a cup of water and they gave it to me in a plastic wine glass. During my meal I spilled it on the table because it is so top heavy with the ice. Just give me a regular solid cup of water. 5). The food has way too much cheese in it. I ordered a california burrito, carne asada fries, and a chicken quesadilla. All three had way way too much cheese in it, it takes away the flavors of the rest of the cuisine. 6) Make the prices on the menu more clear. I ordered a carne asada fries which on the menu was $13, but on my receipt came out to $15. I got a refresher where on the menu it didn't even have a price. Some of it was hard to read. Just please refresh the menu with clean hand writing. 7) I thought it was really weird where the register was asking for a tip when I as a patron had to a) come up to the register to order the food (no waiter), b) come up to the pickup window to get my food (no server), c) go to the trashcan to throw away your plastic silverware d) go to the bin to put the trays/glasses (no busser). I am happy to leave a tip, but there was no service. I will come back and give a new rating the next time I am in the mood of mexican food. Cheers read more

Wanted something other than pizza pulled in for Smokey Mo - we saw it was open and decided to check it out.. - great choice - food is top notch. Street tacos made large (or small) with prime ingredients! Tons of parking (it is a bit dark however at night) We tried each a different meat - was very flavorful. The Texas size is very large - like really a lot. Sauces definitely home made and good. Must try if your into Tex-Mex ~ Mexican spicy with a casual feel. Oh.my.gosh SO GOOD! Definitely a great spot to stop if you're in the area. We stopped in on a Friday night before it got busy and had a great experience. The hostess was eager to share her favorites with us and gave great detail about anything we asked. We ended up with the Machete Texas sized taco and a *Secret Menu* Birria Pizza. The drink options are delicious too! We tried the Strawberry Horchata (yum!), Strawberry Limeade and a Dragonfruit Limade! All of them were so delicious!! My friend recommended this place so I wanted to check it out. I just got a Al pastor taco and while it's definitely a little pricier ($5) a taco, it's a decent size and I was full. They have a Texas size taco which is pretty long size taco, I didn't get a picture but my friend ordered it and enjoyed it. When I got to pick up my food, I was also given a Texas size taco because they had a no show order or something. Really appreciate the staff here! Everyone's very nice. Went here to try it out cause I saw it had some good reviews. Ordered 3 Birria tacos for me, 2 tacos and a kids quesadillas, 3 Dr Peppers and a chips and queso. When the total of $80 came up I was dumbfounded, but whatever. Later found out they also automatically included a tip prior to even getting my food with zero wait staff. We sat down and were quickly surrounded by flies in a hot environment. There was absolutely no service and the music through the entire restaurant was being played through someone's phone, so not only would there constantly be foul language blasting but every call that came to that phone stopped the music in the restaurant and now phone rings were being played throughout the restaurant. Could have gotten all that and more at a food truck for $20. read more

He had half of it with pastor and I had my half with carne asada and not one piece of meat was chewable. The carne asada and pastor were all fat. That's it. The tortilla was so dry that it was hard to swallow. The strawberry horchata and lemonade were good. No beans, rice, chips...just three tacos. 2 tacos only taco plates, and 2 (bottle) sodas and the 20% tip paid at the counter (no table service) on the scrutinizing kiosk observing your tipping prowess, kiosk...cost us $62.35! First time to visit Aparicio's. I was searching places to try my first Birria Taco. The flavor of the taco was worth trying, for sure. However, the meat was very fatty. Both my husband and I had to spit of fat with most of our bites. We both could only eat 1 of the three tacos. Now to be extremely fair, maybe that is the way the meat is supposed to be. My whole family loves this place. As a white man married to a Mexican woman, the quest for the best tacos in the area is a real thing, and we all have started to make Aparicio's a weekly treat. Though we usually take our food to go, the ambience in the restaurant is nice. I can't put my finger on why exactly, but the combination of neon, retro video games, and mood lighting with music just works. The menu is small, and that's a good thing. This is not the place to come for random combo platters of chain Mexican food. You come here for freshly made tacos, quesadillas, and super flavorful, fresh Mexican drinks. All of it is done very well. The Texas sized tacos are our favorite, and we get them with whatever meat combination we're feeling in the moment. The tacos are excellent, but make sure you have a fork and knife for the texas sized ones - they are huge! They are fresh and the meat has a kiss of smoke, which I love. Overall it's just a great taco experience and we keep coming back for them. The drinks are also excellent. My personal favorite is the pineapple water, which is just sweet enough and is flavored with fresh pieces of real pineapple (though all of their fruit drinks include fresh fruit, and all are great). My wife usually gets the horchata and loves it also. I haven't yet tried the entire menu, but so far everything we've have had has been excellent, and I expect that to be the case with everything. To top it off, this is a family owned business with owners that seem to really care about what they do, and they deserve community support. Come try them out! You won't be disappointed. read more
